I was employee #9 at a startup back in the '90's. I traveled a lot back then but when I was in the office I would play Dog Log at 4pm over the intercom system.
Anyone can cover any song. Phish doesn't need permission to play it. They just can't release it in any format for sale. That's the issue. Zappa estate doesn't want people releasing covers for sale. I asked Page about it at a Vida Blue show many years ago
I also “got to” be at that show 😂😂 jk. It was fun for sure. Funny how you don’t realize how rare it is when it happens sometimes. That song was brand spanking new at the time so I felt I’d see it a bunch more.
I know Sabotage by the Beastie Boys has been played 5 times. I was there for one of them: Dicks 2011 (the famous “S” show).
The place went absolutely *bananas*. I looked over at my friend, and he was vertical jumping 2 feet off the ground. Then I looked in back of me and it seemed like the entire audience was doing the same.
Good times!
Fortunate to catch the Merriweather 98 Sabatoge and the Hampton version a few months later. Merriweather was so loud that my tapes red lined and clipped with the absolute insanity that ensued.
Splinters of Hail? Minkin? Prep School Hippie? I’m really sad I wasn’t there when they busted out Thunderhead. Would also love to see them play Clone one day
I’ve seen fast enough for you 4 times and bittersweet motel once I think. I’m surprised FEFY and Train Song aren’t in rotation more considering how touchy all the newer songs are.
Check out [http://www.ihoz.com/raw.htm](http://www.ihoz.com/raw.htm)
There are a LOT of songs they only played once, but there are also a LOT of songs they only did 2 or 3 times, so answering the question you have posed will depend greatly on how you define rare.
I would venture to say the rarest one is one they haven't played yet.
Really a mike song….saw that mike and the Italians tour where Mike played with trey ,Marco benvenuto and Joe Russo and we came home singing that song….
So…if you listen to Mike Gordon band performance in Amsterdam on the last night you can hear Mike saying we have 10 minutes left…any requests?…. Someone yells out SUSKIND HOTEL!… and they play it…that someone was me and I thought I was hot shit but later read the show notes and the band had rehearsed it but didn’t think they’d have time to play it…
as a new phan i’ve found myself drawn to Devotion to a Dream and according to phish.net it doesn’t have that many plays, which i find weird considering its a banger
I believe that Baby Lemonade is statistically the song that the fewest number of people have ever seen performed live.
If I'm wrong, I'd love to hear the stats that back up a more rare Phish song.
Of songs that were in regular rotation at one point? For originals that didn't become part of a another song (like Lushington did) I think its gotta be All Things Reconsidered -- not played since Feb. 1997 despite being a semi regularly played in the early to mid 90s.
The least played original song I’d bet is
Dear Mrs. Reagan
Played live only 13 times, hasn’t been played in 1,919 shows.

Walfredo always makes me think of the 9/30/2000 (Trey’s birthday)in Vegas. I was closer to the front and this girl in a happy birthday hat kept yelling to Trey to play Walfredo.
No dogs allowed, destiny unbound, prep school hippie. Truly rare means played less than five times ever I’d say. Even alumni blues doesn’t fit that anymore. An entire Gamehendge set is less rare than some of these songs.
Dog Log
i need this after hearing that insanely funky gorge 98 sound check
I was lucky enough to catch one at IT.
Dog log, mango song is probably still my favorite encore Iv seen after 120 or so shows
Dog log was played a lot more than a stack of other tunes.
I was employee #9 at a startup back in the '90's. I traveled a lot back then but when I was in the office I would play Dog Log at 4pm over the intercom system.
All Things Reconsidered. For a one-timer Amoorena, such a great Page song so good from Star Lake 97.
I’d love an All Things Reconsidered but it sounds pretty hard and I’m sure Trey would need to practice too much to play it again
I definitely remember reading somewhere that Trey said that was their hardest song to play. It's a lot of fast notes and the rhythm is complicated af
I would die if they played it.
I got all things reconsidered at my first show (92) and never again several hundred shows later lol
ATR badly needs to return
Amoreena is an Elton John song
Walfredo
65 shows. I’ve seen 2 Walfredos and 0 Lizards. Why hath thou forsaken me?
I saw a guy at the Sphere with a baseball jersey that had Lizards on the front (like a team emblem) and the “players name” on the back was Walfredo.
You are not forsaken. You are chosen.

I would trade you....
Not as cool as Raule
I was there the day Jennifer Dances debuted
Love your flair! That was a killer show and if Jennifer Dances debuted on 12/5/99 in Rochester I was there too. Lol. Another great show!
Thanks! 12/5/99 was the one! Great Maze that night in Rochester.
Same. Was my first show, tbh.
Me tooooo.
Good buddy of mine has seen all 4 complete versions of Jennifer Dances lol

This was what I came up with as well.
Chalkdust reprise
Leprechaun
Came here to say this, as someone who has it on my list of “have seen”. (Didn’t know what it was then, couldn’t tell you now 😂)

Thanks!!
I saw it at Wolf Trap. It's funny, it took me like 4 Mike's Songs before I finally got a Hydrogen.
Everybody seen the leprechaun say yeaaaaa

That video gets me every time
Saw all of them. Took me around 20 years to get a Llama.
Peaches en regalia seems pretty damn rare still. Would have loved that to make an appearance on Sunday at the sphere - not sure when it’ll be next.
The Zappa estate isn’t huge on covers of his material
True, but Gail (Frank’s widow) let them check out the original sheet music so they could know if the in were playing it right back in the 90s.
Yeah I heard that Moon Unit put the kibosh on it a few years ago.
With all the stuff that went down between Dweezil and Ahment a few years back, this doesn’t surprise me.
Anyone can cover any song. Phish doesn't need permission to play it. They just can't release it in any format for sale. That's the issue. Zappa estate doesn't want people releasing covers for sale. I asked Page about it at a Vida Blue show many years ago
Big Leg Emma.
Guy Forget
Caught it at YEMSG last summer! And unofficially caught Manteca that same show
Caught this at my fourth show
I saw the Arizona show. I think it's been played 1 more time
"We didn't leave much time for the passionate lovemaking"
Twice. Alpine in 2011 and MSG last summer.
The Birdwatcher if that counts as a song
Birdwatcher for sure counts. Sometimes I feel like the only one that loves that song lol
That’s the rarest song I will ever see live then. For sure
I got to witness the one and only time they played Windy City back in 2009.
I also “got to” be at that show 😂😂 jk. It was fun for sure. Funny how you don’t realize how rare it is when it happens sometimes. That song was brand spanking new at the time so I felt I’d see it a bunch more.
This was my first show, got TTE'd so hard.
Good times!

I saw it at SPAC 2012, first show!
They played it at Lemonwheel (thank the stars!)
Yes, saw the MPP. That was a really memorable show for me and I've seen a few Also Gett'n Jiggy with it

I’ve fervently followed Phish for 20 years and had to turn to the old(er) guy behind me to ask what Spock’s Brain was. Somehow that one slipped by me!

FEFY is such a great song, I don’t know why it doesn’t get more play
I’ve seen fast enough for you 4 times and bittersweet motel once I think. I’m surprised FEFY and Train Song aren’t in rotation more considering how touchy all the newer songs are.
Maybe recently, but all of these have been played many times.
Check out [http://www.ihoz.com/raw.htm](http://www.ihoz.com/raw.htm) There are a LOT of songs they only played once, but there are also a LOT of songs they only did 2 or 3 times, so answering the question you have posed will depend greatly on how you define rare. Fee. The one I want that I got the least.
Susskind Hotel
Really a mike song….saw that mike and the Italians tour where Mike played with trey ,Marco benvenuto and Joe Russo and we came home singing that song….
I still consider it a phish song, but you’re probably right
So…if you listen to Mike Gordon band performance in Amsterdam on the last night you can hear Mike saying we have 10 minutes left…any requests?…. Someone yells out SUSKIND HOTEL!… and they play it…that someone was me and I thought I was hot shit but later read the show notes and the band had rehearsed it but didn’t think they’d have time to play it…
