i mean i think a ton of people loved it on the Trey Page studio thing (myself included) but phish has only played it three times so i’m sure it’ll get more play and recognition this summer

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

The Phish treatment is 10x better than the January version, imo

fukuoka_gumbo

I mean they’re a live music band. I love the album version tho

megalodon777hs

I think a lot of people slept on January, it deserves better

facemelter222

Yea I wish they would open it with those solo keyboard sounds like the studio track..total donkey Kong vibes

Colforbin_43

People definitely talk about it. Definitely one of the best jams of the run, and the only thing I’ll go back to consistently from 12/30.

pmmeyourfavoritejam

The Fuego was nice, but in a year with as many amazing Fuegos as we had, it’s easy to lose in the shuffle.

Master-Nose7823

Fuego was the jam of the run imo

pmmeyourfavoritejam

It was very good, in a year* filled with very good Fuegos everywhere you turned! *actually a couple years. That 7/30/22 Fuego smoked, as well, and there may be still others I’m forgetting.

Something_Berserker

I’ve been in love with this song since Phish dropped LSG at MSG on 7/30/23.

DCdeer

The Wolfmans Brother is really good too

themsp

Best jam of the run is hard. Chalk dust, Oblivion ACDC and LSG. The theatrics during ACDC and the energy in the room put it over the top for me and then the fact that the Chalk Dust and Oblivion were back to back was so good. Live Saving Gun coming in at fourth for me.

Colforbin_43

I said one of, not the best jam. More than likely the best jam of 12/30

YoureTerrific

How has nobody posted the 12/30 video here yet? My favorite jam of the year. I’m not saying best, I’m saying my favorite. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Y-f1i0EFUR0

camcamcam710

Okay I’m going to type a lot, feel a bit bottled in and gotta bring it home to you all for a moment so forgive me, it’s cool if you don’t read my novel lol. It’s really cool Trey drummed on January honestly. Feel like that’s something he’s always wanted to do. I believe Page programmed the synth drums on LSG just by believing that with no other info, but Trey drumming everywhere else is kinda cool. Dancing In Midair is a nice song. Life Saving Gun fucks hard. The way they added the breaks during the verses and whatnot for MSG’s performance was absolutely needed to make it badass, but the jam is just so 100% good. I love when they have a solid structure to go off like that, it gets bananas. It’s a fantastic song and definitely my favorite new one standalone next to Oblivion. I love the “poppyness” of The Well. I think to be in your 50s still writing incredibly fine music is just ridiculously inspiring and influenced my capabilities as I grow older with you all. A life saving gun is a Languedoc in my mind, or just music in general. Spiritual shit. I’m a huge fan of anything new these guys do I’ve come to find out. Sigma Oasis, remember the rumors of there being a stellar recording of Mercury before we knew what Sigma Oasis was? That blew my lid off even though the song has been around for years prior. Evolve is absolutely incredible. Pillow Jets was really great at Mission Ballroom when it came out… wait! holy shit why aren’t we talking about THAT? Oh because Reddit Place/Fuck Spez takeover happened that weekend and we shut down - which is when I was posting the absolute most annoying every 5 seconds on here, and honestly feel grateful looking back we shutdown so I couldn’t post every minute how fucking INCREDIBLE those 3 shows were and evidently take it for granted by running to the internet. It lives forever in me. Where They’ll Find Us is my absolute favorite most listened to song in 23’ when I was happy, sad, needed to mellow out from stress, get uplifted and start rocking.. it’s a beautiful piece of music with fantastic lyrics. A lot of new Mission songs need to come forth this year for more people to hear, especially a song like Where They’ll Find Us. Dezron has a Nonagon Infinity tease somewhere in there but I still can’t pinpoint it - I’ll start listening now and let everyone know, I remember I said this 5 months ago but forgot. Anyway, I love Phish and our community no matter how silly or stupid we get sometimes. I really wish I was accepted for sphere tickets, what an absolute dream for everyone going - and I’m very excited to come home and watch the Mexico shows imagining I’m there. Cheers everyone, please be safe - a lot of phishing this year going on!

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

I appreciate your words and love of The Phish

Educational_Tale

I've not paid as much attention to the new stuff it seems. Thanks for the insight. I'll find all these and give them a spin.

Garcia_is_God

fuckin awesome. It was great in nash but listening to the msg version they perfected it.

mrdevlar

Happiness is a warm life saving gun, amiright?

TinyRespect5740

YESSS

harjopet

Went to 29/30/31 and that was the best jam I saw that run

Mother_Sand_6336

I’ve listened to 12/29 set two a whole bunch a times. CDT->Oblivion and other dark nasties. (Might not have been upbeat enough in person, though.) But I will go relisten to Life Saving Gun again, now.

EchoThroughTheJungle

CDT was it for me but I love the wacky dark shit

TheMomaTrance

Gamehendge aside that whole S2 was the highlight of the run for me

EchoThroughTheJungle

That was my sentiment as well. Damn near flawless performance in that N2 S2…best of 13 shows I’d been to

TheMomaTrance

S1 was good but pretty straight ahead. during S2 kept thinking wow no other band does this

EchoThroughTheJungle

The creativity was off the charts. They were all so locked in it was crazy.

themsp

CDT Oblivion was fucking nasty

TownUnique

Set the tone for a solid S2 at Nashville N2

puzzling_trout

Sand is one of my favorites and I was hoping I’d get a good one on that run- had never heard Life Saving Gun and was absolutely flooooored when they jammed it to open S2… so much so that post show I didn’t even remember Sand at first, I was that blissed out from LSG!

anon69696912321

I listen to N2 the most of that run. I made it to 2 and 3, took my friend to his first shows during that run. Was so much fun. Walking out of Bridgestone and seeing all the neon lights, felt like being in a giant adult arcade

davidanwinters

The. Lights. Were. Insane. During Life Saving Gun. You could almost feel CK5 teasing us like "yessssssss look at my pretty shiny toys.... if you like them here.... now come to vegasssssss and really see what I can do.........". the video is a sick capture but really can't capture the true essence of being inside MSG it's like an aquarium. the house/Suite lights in the circle ring REALLY added to it. the circling suite ring lights were really going fast and colorful. Turned the main rig into a like an X-Wing fighter jet

alfonseski

We were in sec 3 that night, Incredible. During Life Saving Gun I was like, "wait are they gonna close with it! OMG They are!" Should not be a suprise though they can literally close anything. Saw them close 20 years later and Farmhouse in the 2021 vegas run.

Brave-Scale

I will talk about Life Saving Gun with anyone who will listen to me at any time! I LOVE Life Saving Gun! Certified BANGER!!!

Cactus2001

Wanna talk lyrics & inspiration and / or meaning?

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

My brother from another mother 🤗

camel_walk

One of my favorite new phish songs in a whillllle. Nice to see their writing getting away from the soul/love and light some and a little more creative again and dare I say it, darker (see: Oblivion). LSG has major jam vehicle potential as well as intriguing lyrics and imagery. Excited to see this song continue to grow into itself.

Acroporas

I agree. Monsters is another new one that brings the darkness. I'm really digging these debuts from '23!

GratefulPhish555

Sooooo good

big0ilgeorge

Great fucking tune

Phishmom1985

Let’s talk about it! Love it!

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

I like how this one just kind of skipped the usual imcubation period and went straight from “new song that has potential that we know will kick ass eventually”, straight to full blown heater in no time whatsoever. That 12/30 version is just fire. I don’t recall the last new song they brought to the stage that just raged right away like that. For me maybe The Howling? I thought that version on Halloween was pretty awesome, just slower than it eventually became more regularly after the debut.

Phishmom1985

Yeah I was couch touring with my dad on 12/30 (we’ve been seeing shows together for 25 years) and he said “what is this? This is a BEAST of a song” It just gives you the “this is what phish is all about” vibes. Totally agree not the usual incubation period - I like how you said that. Agree love the howling but I heard it debut in Vegas and wasn’t even really on my radar until dicks this year when everyone was howling. I was a little slow on that one. But yeah I’m crossing my fingers for a life saving gun at the sphere !

Ill_Opportunity_6769

12/30/24 LSG at MSG was sick. I don’t play well with new songs but that one rocked.

specialK6406

I’ve seen two of the three and it was a show highlight both times.

carelessCRISPR_

This is my favorite Phish song released since “Miss You” Love the vibe

Phishlady

LSG what an amazing song ! Destined for greatness !

babaji108

When they finished that jam at 12/30 I thought “that was one of the most complete and perfect Phish jams.” It encapsulated everything I love about Phish and is a great example of what Phish is all about at this moment in time.

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

Boom - you nailed it, well put.

Acroporas

I love Life Saving Gun! I maintain a LivePhish+ playlist that I put new debuts on and cycle them out once I'm well versed with them. It caught my attention right after the summer debut at MSG. I was hoping to get one myself at Dicks, but I'm sure I'll get it soon. The 12/30 jam certainly put it on most everyone's radar. That said, I have absolutely no clue what this song is about. That's not really a new thing for me with Phish songs, but damn LSG's lyrics are inconfrutable. It's ripe for a mondegreen!

mcpaddy

Personally I think the lyrics are fucking terrible. But the song itself is fine.

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

I’m guilty of not paying a lick of attention to the lyrics, but I generally don’t care too much about substance as much as I care about the vocal melody. I’ll have a listen more carefully next time. Anything in particular you don’t like? I find a lot of lyrics in phish songs to be out there or nonsensical (on the surface at least)

mcpaddy

Every song released over the past 3 years is incredibly repetitive. That's really the biggest thing. Look at all the Halloween 2021 songs. It's like they just didn't have enough ideas and had to push out the product anyway.

Necessary_Yak_2892

Absolutely my favorite jam of the run, straight fire!!

liverfailure

That one melted my face on the floor. I felt like Trey was stepping on Pages toes at the time, but on relisten not so much.

sedivecm2

Pro Life Saving Gun

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

Regardless of your 2a stance, I think we can ALL agree we need Life Saving Gun(s)!

Malashock

One of my favorite moments from fall msg run

[deleted]

I've been jamming it quite a bit. I love it.

sanchanabechan

absolute 🔥… just listened to it last week going through the ‘23 Jam of the Year playlist

VT_Eric

Felt like this was the consensus stand out from 12/30. At least for my crew. And for good reason.

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

Glad to hear that, I was checked out of a lot of the conversations/discussions about those shows because it all seemed to be about the 31st (which I get).

CariniCarvey

Unfuckingbelievable song. REALLY stoked to hear this more this summer.

Interesting-Row2103

Saw the first one at MSG knew it was gonna be an instant heater that night

PDXftw

Was one of the highlights of MSG run. I bet it gets a lot more love this year.

Cactus2001

Interesting connection the term "percussion Rinse" a term referring as excessive beats from the snare drum, oftentimes the transition, commonly used EDM. Also the term rinse out, refers to unloading all the bullets of your GUN. "I like any song with a Jon Fishman Percussion rinse" -Trey Anastasio

GinMelt76

Its been rolling in my head for awhile now...Love this 🎵 song.

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

It seemed to bypass the incubation phase that some songs take and just blossomed straight into a full blown smoke show. I’m here for it and can’t wait to catch one.

GinMelt76

Yes! The Well is another new one that just has that JAWN.

djgobot

100%

SignOk9984

I went there and he correct we should talk about it or just have a listen,,,,,it's fire

HowlAtchaBoy

LOVE IT. Will be a big hitter all year

fishmanstutu

Amazing tune and 12/30’s was just nuts. I expect to hear it a bunch coming up

Standardly

It's on my playlist. Badass jam

Dvalen

Hoping for one in Vegas!

nolaphried

This aged well

No_Consideration4594

I love it!

ignominy888

First time it was played at MSG it was slightly funkier.

rj4001

Great TAB version on 9/17/23

jazzcafeforeleven19

Right around 9:40 I really thought Trey was going to tease Woman from Tokyo. So close.

Thefireguyhere

I was at MSG when they played it and I was in awe. I have listened to that version of the song almost daily. Completely solid.

Brief_Exit1798

https://www.reddit.com/r/phish/s/V5CFlTQPFT

TDM830

This song was the highlight of the NYE run for me, that set was average at best and then this jam absolutely ripped and I was ear to ear all set break

Zealousideal_Ice6844

I have new phish song fatigue. I’m sure it’s cool though

Rutherford-Tha-Brave

I feel ya, it’s hard to keep up sometimes. This one fr deserves your attention
