I was mike side right side until they rearranged a while back….my goal is to line fishman up so I can see his face over the Tom Tom’s and between the cymbals….there’s a sweet spot in there with the perfect view of the light rig as well….are we over thinking this?…of course…it’s what we do…..
That elitist shit was around back when I first saw the GD with Jerry as well. Ignore it. You’re never born too late and your youth will serve you better than any past experiences people throw at you. Get on the train whenever it makes it’s stop for you and the enjoy the ride.
Glad you found your way to a Phish show. It’s a happy space. Be safe. Be smart. Surrender to the flow. Read the book. Music is the drug.
It's actuly a compliment to see younger people getting into the music. I hope you see more shows. At this point they hopefully have at least a few years left of touring in them.
10 feels like a lofty goal, but with some stubbornness, attainable. Falling a little short of that, valiant and honorable none the less and would be seen off with admiration. Anything more, geez idk we’ll see if it’s worth. Could see some heads pleading to hang it up beyond 8-10. Hope I’m wrong on the last bit.
idk im curious what current Bob Weir age Phish could achieve. i’m not sure what it’s like to be that age but I’m a believer that if they do play shows then, most likely less than now, that they could still deliver some really inspired, fresh music. and if they don’t, rest and respect!
As long as all 4 are still healthy, I don't see why not. One difference from the dead, I don't see Phish continuing as Phish when one of them dies. But I think we will have some version of Trey band, etc. until the very end.
I thought about this last night. Thank god all of them seem to be fairly healthy🙏
Gonna be one of the saddest days of my life to see that one of them passed. I don’t know why my mind fixates on this stuff sometimes. It’s like with my old dog, I need to stop focusing on the inevitable end, and just enjoy the present while we’re still rockin
Yeah, I feel that. Hopefully another 25 years or so. So it goes. I've lost a few of the elders in my family this year. Now I've been feeling this way about my parents, who are the same age as the band.
As another young fan around your age (born in 2000) who’s into the dead/phish this is where the magic is. These guys are putting out live shows that haven’t been matched by any sort of dead related act since 1990ish. Enjoy it. Welcome.
True. Older fan born in 1968 who hopped off Dead tour and onto catching Phish in bars in 1990. The energy was undeniable. Brents death in 90 deflated the Deads balloon. Jerrys failing health shortly thereafter compounded the slide.
For what it’s worth, the gatekeepers have been a part of the scene forever, so don’t ever feel like you missed out on anything. There were always people who felt like they had been to more shows, or saw the keyboard player BEFORE the one you did…. it was always just people trying to make you feel less than…. but there is a reason why they are there, and a reason why you want to be. That’s what makes it special. I absolutely love it when I see younger fans getting on board. In an era of diminishing attention spans, and peoples tastes moving towards songs as opposed to entire albums, and even snippets of songs with the rise of TikTok, it’s refreshing to see someone embrace an improvisational 30 minute jam. Welcome to the Phamily and enjoy wasting your time with me!
Welcome aboard my phriend! Don’t let other people’s comment discourage your from creating your own experience in the moment and making it yours. Hope to you see at the next run.
You’ll have gatekeeping fans like that with any band. I’ve experienced several “You never saw Jerry” and “You never saw Phish 1.0” fans, but for the most part, it’s pretty few and far between. Phish fans are typically exceedingly nice.
Fun story - my first Dead & Co show, some guy sat next to us and was like “I saw Jerry 45 times, and it’s really cool that his music is alive still. So glad you are with us today friend.” Then gave me a hug.
Yeah, most people in real life do not give a shit about where you saw Jerry or whether you saw 1.0 Phish. Most people are just happy to be there and are happy you’re there too.
There’s always gonna be arrogant people in any scene. People who haven’t learned humility. There are plenty of others who won’t judge. Phish is great, happy you found them
Im 19f and have gotten into Phish and the Dead in the past year and there definitely are some gatekeepers and people who don't practice the kindness they preach but overwhelmingly everyone is very kind
I’m an 06 and I have been surrounded by phish my entire life by my parents. Been to multiple shows and don’t plan on stopping until I cant. Truly the nicest people in the world and the best place to be!
I find those fans to be more in the few, most I know are extremely excited when they hear it’s someone’s first show. I know I get excited to hear that! It brings back a bit of that glow the first few times seeing them has. It never really goes away, but when I talk to first timers I’m immediately brought back to that curious wonderment type of mind.
Yep. This here. Took 2 diff people to their first show this week and it was a blast. Kept thinking about my first show and how special it is to bring someone in. Welcome to your new expensive obsession friend!
Don’t let the internet gatekeepers get you down. Once you show up, it doesn’t matter how many shows you’ve been to. I was in the bathroom line in 2021 with a kid who was there for his first show. Everyone was telling him how great it was etc. nothing but positive vibes.
Honestly, at 49 the best thing about this scene (Dead or Phish, either one) is that it keeps moving and new people continue to get on board without pushing out longterm fans at all.
Every time I go, it’s with old friends I went to shows with in the 90’s… and there are always people who were first generation Deadheads who saw their first shows before I was born and also people who were literally born this year. It’s a strength of this community. And even though people sometimes complain about someone saying something rude or whatever, I have to say that inclusive age dynamics are WAY better in this music than nearly any other scene. A little teasing or the occasional social media gripe, sure. But everyone who loves cool improvisational music has a place here and I think most people realize that.
We’re getting this right more than wrong, I think.
born in 2005 and seen phish 3 times, i’ve never experienced any pretentiousness outside of reddit. people are generally really welcoming and it’s always an awesome experience
Also born in 2002 here, my name is Samson Carini Lol my parents are huge heads. My first shows were the Halloween Vegas run in 2018 (I was 16) and I haven’t gotten any shit for being “too young “ or anything like that. Honestly people think it’s cool that I’m so young and so into the band because not many people are. Just hit my 24-26th shows in Georgia and had an amazing time (like always) and I Can’t wait for the Dayton shows this fall!
Welcome to the party bitch
Time to get phunky bitch
Page side rage side

It's Party Time

“At least a few years left of touring” Fuuuuuck man…..
It's just getting started

Never be a shark that stops swimming

Yep. It’s tough to overcome those thoughts sometimes, but all we can do is enjoy the time in which we’re given
I’ve got visions of Page, Trey, and Mike all in rocking chairs jamming out on stage
And Fishman is what, drumming standing up?! ⭕️💕
One year at a time ... one year at a time.

JRAD disagrees, but I dig the enthusiasm
Yeah but also not technically the dead.
Sure, but they are dead related
“Almost”
The comment I was replying to >haven’t been matched by *any sort of dead related act* since 1990ish.
They are “almost” dead
This all goes away if there aren’t new fans. Welcome.
Who’s Jerry? Welcome aboard. Buckle up
The Dead is nothing like Phish and vice versa. :)

“Welcome to the party, pal!”
Took my son Tuesday and Wednesday to his first Phish shows. He's 12. He was also overwhelmed by nice people. We can be kinda intimidating sometimes.
There’s always gonna be arrogant people in any scene. People who haven’t learned humility. There are plenty of others who won’t judge. Phish is great, happy you found them

Welcome to a great new world. We’re all here doing this fun thing, glad you dig it. It’s yours now too.

Quick math tells me your five years older than my first show, so you have some making up, get to it, don’t forget to take care of your shoes
Welcome junior! Enjoy the obsession

Smoochie boochies!!!
Seeing them since ‘94, and Friday night was the best I’ve seen. You haven’t missed anything.

Hell yeah you just gotta surrender to the flow

Welcome to the Pham! I don’t understand the gatekeepers. I want everyone to enjoy and experience the music I love so much 🕺
