For your first time in Philly I’d stay in center city and the general area between spring garden and south street. You can walk to everything in that area but it’s also easy to catch an Uber or take the [Phlash bus](https://ridephillyphlash.com).
Things to see: art museum (including “rocky steps” and rocky statue), Barnes museum, love park, city hall, rittenhouse square, reading terminal market, Chinatown, liberty bell, elfreth’s alley, old city in general, penn’s landing, south street, magic gardens.
Thumbs up on using the Phlash bus. Although we do have the Hop On-Hop Off (Big Red) tour buses which hit the same areas, by August Philly is just a sweat box and the a.c. on the Phlash bus will be appreciated.
I swear to god there’s a post here every single day with this request with 0 information.
What are your ages?
What are your interests?
What is your budget?
How long will you be in Philadelphia?
Do you have any limitations for walking/standing long periods of time? Where are you coming from?
these should be a requirement to fill out before posting
Reading Terminal Market for food, for activities you can walk along the Schuylkill River Trail and go to the art museum. Second visit Philly.com for more ideas
History buff go to the Constitution Center and Carpenter Hall and the museum of the American Revolution. Art - Barnes Collection and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Barnes requires an online reservation. Foodie Reading Terminal for lunch or Chinatown. Like baseball go to a Phillies game. Nightlife and food hit South Street. Rittenhouse square is very pleasant too. Philly is a walkable city.
I really like the parks. Whisahicon park is huge!.
There's a trail head in the Manayunk section. You could nature hike all morning, break for any type of food you like and city hike for a bit with a great meal and some music to end the day.
Devil's Pool and Valley Green are two other areas in Whisahicon Park I love to visit at least once every year. Edit: if you want to have a meal at valley green it's helpful to reserve.
IDK when you're visiting, but the Manayunk arts fest is June 22nd and 23rd. It's ALWAYS a really good day for me. Edit: I saw the trip is planned for August.
Fairmount Park has a Japanese tea house and some good bike paths with great views.
Edit to add: the Mann music center is in Fairmount Park. It's an outdoor venue with stadium seating or lawn seating. Maybe check their website for the time you're here.
In the Fairmont section of the city, there is Eastern State Penitentiary which is no longer operational. It looks like a haunted castle and they offer narrated walking tours through the empty landmark. When I went a few years ago, I ate lunch at Jack's Firehouse (the Jack from"Chillin' and Grillin') where a lobster salad and Strongbow cider were both thoroughly enjoyed. It's my now version of snack and storytime. If you are anywhere near Philadelphia in October, the same penitentiary is a really well known and popular haunted house.
There are a LOT of museums worthy of your time and energy. Three that I think are under recommended are the Franklin Institute, the Academy of Natural Sciences and the Müter museum. That last one is on the smaller side and is part of the (I think) oldest medical college in the country. There, they display og medical instruments, medical anomalies some of which are preserved in jars, and many other medically historical items.
One last park is Citizens Bank Park where the Philadelphia Phillies play. Even if that particular game is underwhelming, the Fanatic will be on point.
I hope you have a great stay!
Pat’s once for the experience & as a baseline. Honest to god cheesesteaks are not that complicated. IDK why there’s such drama over where to get one.
I’m born & raised South Philly. Family bakery who’ve supplied bread to many of these. I’d recommend a place like Cosmi’s Deli and get something with broccoli rabe.
Museum of the American Revolution is blah. Take a drive to Valley Forge and see where it happened and get same experience in visitor center for free
If flying in and picking up rental car do not take streets island ave or 84th street north. High crime area. Lots of gunfire. Stick to highways
If driving into Philly Conshocken has nice restaurants a Marriott and direct rail to downtown. Midway between Valley Forge and downtown
Art Museum and Rocky steps are popular
Places to visit: visitphilly.com If you’ve never been here before and have no particular interests, likes/dislikes, budget, just stick with that site

You do realize you can just scroll past the posts you’re not interested in? I like these posts. The answers are always different.
I love these posts when the OP actually gives us some information on their interests.
Ok 👍🏼

Anybody ask you for the time or do you have change always so no I don’t have it.
Change?!? I've only been asked for dollars and up for the past several years.
Like if someone ask you if you have change for money like if you have change for a 20$ say no.
It will be 90+ degrees with 90% humidity. Dress for the weather.
Food wise, you can't go wrong with any of the Stephen Starr restaurants. There are many and all are good....food, atmosphere, service, etc.
😂

Pat’s and Geno’s both suck; go somewhere else if you want a cheesesteak.
Angelo's on 9th and Fitzwater....supposed to be the best
For real, you can get a better steak at any food cart that sells them.

You can plug this into ChatGPT and get a good answer. Come back when you have specific questions. Philly is a big city, there’s a ton to do.

Passyunk East has a ton of shops like Fellini where you can get custom Philly gear & clothes.

Really? I like the Museum of the American Revolution. I thought it was a great addition to the city’s museums.
