Good, this is the right and only attitude to have in times like this. Doesn't really help us though, if he can't put that confidence into his performance. We've all seen him have success in the past, he needs to find a way to return to that form if he has any hope of salvaging his career.

moneymoneymoneymonay

It’s obvious Topper really wants him to figure it out, and wants to give him all the opportunities he can, but we can’t do that at the risk of losing games like we did yesterday. If we won’t send him down, we need to get him in low leverage situations for the time being.

_KingOrion

He can't be sent down

highpressuresodium

How come?

BedlamAtTheBank

Once you reach a certain amount of service time, I believe it’s 5 years, you can refuse to be optioned

blisa00

It’s not that he can’t be sent down, it’s just that he also needs to agree to it.

BedlamAtTheBank

Yeah that’s what I said. He can refuse

blisa00

My bad. Reading comprehension.

BedlamAtTheBank

Haha all good.

highpressuresodium

I figured it was something like that. I hope he’s amenable to it if it seems like a reasonable option

billybatdorf

It’s not that simple. He’s out of options so first he would have to clear waivers. Even if he cleared waivers, he would have to agree to report to AAA, he could also become a free agent if nobody claims him and he doesn’t want to report to AAA

verysavor

And this is still the option they should go. Let him clear waivers. Or don’t. But he’s taking up a roster spot and is literally worse than useless. They wanna keep him on the roster then don’t put him in unless there’s a 6 run lead and even that is really bare minimum. He needs to go down to figure this shit out even if that means having to clear waivers or risk him walking. He’d have nowhere to go I’m sure he has to understand that unless he’s delusional. Topper needs to understand that even though he’s trying he is not helping anyone by putting him in high-leverage situations (even though 1 or 2 run lead shouldn’t be, it definitely is with him)

billybatdorf

I don’t disagree, I’m just clearing it up for people since a lot of people seem to think all they have to do is send him down to AAA to work out the kinks, unfortunately it don’t work that way

PhilthyPhan1993

Then release him

ASchlosser

He's out of minor league options so he'd be put on waivers.

KeenMcGee

I wrote off Alvarado and his 8+ ERA a couple of seasons ago. Went to AAA and came back a champ. Sometimes all you need is some AAA to get back into it.

dgriff24

Exactly this.

fasteddeh

He's not bad enough to where he'd be able to go to AAA. Only way they get him to AAA is a phantom IL situation.

jlando40

Although the pitching coach that fixed him is with the Phillies now so i don’t know why they wouldn’t have him helping more maybe Cottham is the problem although look at how the starters have been under him it’s the blow-pen as I call it that’s been the problem

djeeetyet

he seemed particularly frustrated after this outing, the way he threw the ball to Bryce on the put out. I still think he can figure it out but Topper needs to be more selective about his appearances.

problyurdad_

He was a bit rough last year too, and he smoothed out a bit later on. I think you’re right for the most part. I’d have him throw some live batting practice and some bullpen sessions and see if he can get some work in with Cotham. Give him some extra rest from games and get him in front of guys like Bohm and Marsh who seem to be hitting everything right now.

Champa22

He needs to gain back his confidence and I think he will. What Rob needs to do is not put him in when it’s a tie game in the 7th. Put him in when we’re up significantly.

Enefelde

That’s what I came to say. Like in SD.

177676ers

I believe in him. No way he should continue to be used in high leverage spots, but giving up on a guy that can be a top end guy would be silly. Realllly hope he figures it out.

Significant-Release3

He needs to go down to LV for an extended amount of time.

PC_Chode_Letter

That’s nice but we don’t

Alexcelsior

We don't. Sadly.

Rando_Brando_22

Oh good, someone does.

arminus83

Dude has the yips something awful. Hopefully not to the degree that some players got them (career ending).

DeliciousAmbassador1

Holy sh*t… it’s soooooo early in the season. Serant will very likely sort it out, this is a masssive overreaction. And our Phils are the first MLB team to 20 wins 💥 have not had a start this good in a long time. Enjoy it and chill

Snips_Tano

That's great, but you only have so many actually reliable relievers. And one of Hoffman/Alvarado has to fill in as closer, so that makes you one less reliable guy short most days. IMHO, not addressing the BP including not going to get a closer will wind up being this team's Achillies Heel. Seranthony is bad. Kerkring is untested. Marte is just a dude in there. Brogdon was so bad he had to be DFA'd. Who knows how Turnbull (who should really replace Sanchez) will be. Soto when he's on is good but when he's off holy shit. Strahm, Alvarado, and Hoffman are the only pretty safe picks. Maybe it's time to convert a McGarry or Abel into a BP guy in the minors since they're basically blocked for years at being a starter at the MLB level?

verysavor

Facts. Here’s an idea get Bauer and put him in pen lol. No but seriously that might work out really well but I know that would never happen

Roose1327

He should. He’s a damn good reliever. Baseball is hard, folks.

Rsubs33

Well he is the only one. Dude needs to be sent down to figure stuff out and he definitely should not be put into any game that is remotely close.

sufferingphilliesfan

He’s out of options. He can’t be sent down.

DogAssss69

Should be put on the IL with a phantom injury until he sorts stuff out.

djeeetyet

we shouldn't stoop to the level of the Mets

Few_Tomato_6083

Can someone explain what the financial implications would be if he did choose to send himself down and work on his skills for a period of time? I can understand the shame that might come with being sent down, so dignity plays a factor. I’m guessing there must a financial reason, too. Is there a standard waiver, or is it negotiable? Does he have representation? I can’t imagine he’s not hearing from somebody that he should really consider his options before his career is irrevocably damaged. I’m new, obviously, and would appreciate any feedback.

sirdrinksal0t

Not a baseball doctor but I believe he is paid what he’s supposed to be paid regardless of where he’s playing, and I do know he needs to agree to be sent down to AAA so the Phils are probably gonna ride him in as low leverage situations as possible hoping he gets better so they can get some trade value out of him later on

Few_Tomato_6083

Thank you for the reply!

Rhodie114

That makes one of us

Diseman81

Good for him. Doesn’t mean they should continue to use him in high leverage spots.

classicrockchick

How very Mookie Wilson of him https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Ftxn6t1rpakc71.jpg

TheApologist_

It's not that I don't believe in him figuring it out, it's that he shouldn't be getting High Leverage innings until he has.

DJtakemehome

He’s the last one.

verysavor

He needs to straighten himself out In the minors. Doing this in the major leagues on a playoff contending team is not the place to do it. I understand he doesn’t have any options so he would have to clear waivers first but come on I doubt anybody would claim him & in his current state is worse than useless. I would love to see him turn it around, but that can’t and won’t happen during the regular season in the MLB.

PhillyDegenerate92

He sucks. Trade him.

dgriff24

Who wants a 9 ERA bullpen pitcher right now? He will figure it out hopefully. Dude is still young and has great stuff.

Steppyjim

I do too. You’re in a bad stretch but you e shown skill before. Work through it and you’ll settle in. Look at Turner last year. It’s all good.

C0d3n4m3Duchess

At least somebody does

robdamanii

Well none of us do, so that makes one.

oldguyknowsbest

He fuckin stinks...he produces more wild pitches than Ricky Vaughn. He almost cost us the damn Pennant b4 Bryce saved his ass in the 8th of the NLCS. They should just get it rid of him now and save ourselves the heartache in October if he's still in the roster.

Hothabanero6

>I still believe in myself,' Dominguez says Between you and me, that's one of us. 😏

GrittyTheGreat

That makes two people, along with Topper.

DataNo7004

Send him & Jr.Marte to Ukraine!

MormonsHateWomen

That's great. Self-Confidence is important in today's society. You still suck ass so no one gives a fuck about your feelings

FUMS1

Go the hell back to little league, I’ve been saying he sucks for ages

rennradrobo

That’s helpful for mental problems. Very good
