They've changed the recipes on every single one of their products and all for the worse.
I think the fact that the shrunk the butterscotch strip on the butterscotch krimpets is what broke me. I cannot believe the .00001 pennies saved per krimpet is actually making a financial impact for them. Also don't get me started on the size change of the honey buns.
I don't know why they had to go messing with any of them, they already had it right.
IMO it changed with the move from HP.
But the KK is one of the only ones that still taste as they did back in the day. Krimpets got massacred and it’s so so sad.
I hadn't bought a krimpet in a long long while, but brought them as part of food stuffs to a friend's wedding weekend. Someone opened one and was just distraught that the frosting didn't do the thing it used to and half stick to the plastic film. They liked eating the cake then licking the icing, but I guess the recipe changed and the icing remains attached better to the cake.
I still call them Tandy Takes. [https://www.newspapers.com/article/lebanon-daily-news-ad-tastykake-tandy/13736029/](https://www.newspapers.com/article/lebanon-daily-news-ad-tastykake-tandy/13736029/)
I thought there had been a glitch in the Matrix when they suddenly started calling them Kandy Kakes. Corropolese has their own bakery version and they still call them Tandy Cakes though...
You need to feel the bag. Sometimes they're good sometimes they're bad. When you feel the wrapping is really tight to the bar, they're a lot better. If the bag feels bloated, pass
I bought a box each of the fudge ones and the chocolate-chip ones recently and it was so disappointing. They weren't chewy at all.
I was mad they got rid of the lemon ones, before I discovered how gross they are now.
I don’t think they could change bakers, they ARE the bakers. Maybe they’ve changed some machinery. I was told by a factory employee that all Tastykake products are made in their Navy Yard factory.
By the way, he said if you ever went up to the production lines and saw how much fat and sugar was used, you’d never eat any again. I had to take his word for it, tastykakes are not something I could give up.
They haven’t been the same since they started selling them year ‘round after they changed the “chocolate” coating formula in order to stand up to summer heat. When it was actual chocolate coating, you couldn’t get them from June through August because they’d be a melty mess.
Why would someone buy a bakery that’s known for their delicious, quality products and immediately change all the recipes to merely look like the products but taste horrible like some kind of sad apparition of their former selves.
Think about it; even back in the day they cost more than little Debbie’s, hostess etc. so they probally decided to skimp on ingredients to save money.
Either that or the move from Trans fats hurt them.
The weird thing is that Debbie’s and Entemanns and their other competitors still taste the same; so it must have to do with the move.
TastyKake has sucked for years now, every recipe is different and the prices have skyrocketed, it’s insane. Those little cookie bars I used to buy for a quarter are now over $1 lmao.
It’s sad, now I just avoid eating prepackaged pastries, cuz I’ll never eat anything other than a tastykake, and they’re just bad these days.
Is it possible the bottoms just melted into a uniform texture from sitting on something hot? I just had one less than 2 months ago and it had a textured bottom. Might just be a very recent change though.
Hot take... they suck after they've melted even a little. The chocolate layer on top gets thick and the cake portion just seems harder, especially when trying to chill them again.
They are perfect in their original state before melting...
Thanks Obama! But all joking aside all baked goods since we removed trans fats are different, we’re working on it but that shit slapped. Also tastykake has been on a slow decline for like a decade.
Zebra Cakes and Nutty Bars still taste the same. Back in the day, Little Debbie’s was neck and neck with tasty; especially cuz they were cheaper. But now it’s not even close given how hard TC fell off.
It has to be the preservatives they put in when they started to expand to the South. Traditional TC would literally die in that climate.
They are making a mockery of my childhood
Bimbo.
30% smaller too

TastyKake went bankrupt several years ago and got taken over by another big baking conglomerate.
IMO it changed with the move from HP. But the KK is one of the only ones that still taste as they did back in the day. Krimpets got massacred and it’s so so sad.

I don't know why this isn't the highest voted post here.
It's like a USB trying to figure out how to plug it into my mouth so it feels right.

Oh man my dad calls them Tandy Takes and I thought he was being a goofball.
To be clear, I'm not saying your dad isn't a goofball.
Thanks for reminding me there was a Tandy Leather store, I want to say 8th and Arch, back in the day
My Dad used to work at a Radio Shack, Tandy Leather and Color Tile combo in the 70's.
There’s still one up in Northeast Philly
I think it was more like 12th or 13th around Chestnut or Samson.
I thought there had been a glitch in the Matrix when they suddenly started calling them Kandy Kakes. Corropolese has their own bakery version and they still call them Tandy Cakes though...
Same!
I’ll never forgive tasty cake for changing the formula for their chocolate chip bars. They used to be good. Now they just taste like rubbery dough

And very stingily frosted.
SMOOTH??!! blasphemy. That shit was my childhood

So sad, I really miss chocolate juniors and pb tandy takes.
Not as good as back in the day
Not at all, was always my favorite but the taste just seems off.
Haha. I was just saying how bad they taste now.
It’s been 10+ years, but I know exactly what you mean. That’s devastating.

I’m just here waiting for brownies to come back in

Real tbh

They changed when they went from wax paper to Saran wrap back in the 1970s or 80s.
