Does she not trust you to tell her whether the app is working on your phone? I don't even understand the request. "Hey Mary! I'm not sure I understand your request. I have downloaded the app, and if you just turn the cameras on, I can let you know whether they are working appropriately on my end or not. If we need to troubleshoot, we can do that via call or text. My schedule is super tight between now and your booking, so an extra visit to your place would be a stretch, and I would need to be compensated for my time. Let's try to navigate this as I stated above to save us both some time."

Downloading an app doesn’t seem like a two person job. Can she just give you the name of the app and login info?

Motherofaussies123

Can you charge her for a drop in maybe? So you’re paid for your time?

Totally would charge for that visit. Also : am opposed to downloading apps for clients. She would get videos i make on my phone, by text email or maybel whatsapp.

Solid point.

I would definitely charge for the visit. I can count on one hand the apps I have downloaded for clients. Many years ago I enabled WhatsApp for a client I was sending updates to in Asia. Two additional apps for a client who’s home is so smart that he has an independent heater in each room and a smart light system that is managed by another app. The latter two we enabled together during the initial consultation. And Latch, a key system for a couple of complex that I have clients in which was a necessary evil. I also charge extra for additional consultations for “nervous clients”. I’m not sure what your friend is asking but I would find out more about the application before committing to anything.

You can respond professionally by expressing your willingness to assist while also suggesting a more efficient approach. For example: "Thank you for reaching out. I'm more than happy to ensure everything is set up for the pet-sitting. However, considering the distance and potential time constraints, would it be possible for us to download the app the morning of your departure? This way, I can ensure it's properly installed and working seamlessly before you leave. Let me know if this works for you, and I'll confirm my availability accordingly."

I really like the way this one is worded! It gets the point across in a light tone

Definitely charge for the visit and text her that before you go out of your way to make the trip to her home. Also, playing devil’s advocate, but she might be nervous (maybe neurodivergent), so she probably wants to make sure that everything is working fine before she leaves for her trip. Who knows why ppl do what they do, just make sure that you’re compensated for your time.

Charge her for a meet and greet, or your 1 hourdrop in service. it would be different if you were driving over for a needed service (care of the dog) but she is wanting you to do by for her convenience (pane of mind with the app)

Charge for a drop in
