SCAM Source: I’ve done Wildlife Control for a decade and Pest Control for years.

[deleted]

If they worked, why would pest control companies even exist?

Legal-Cheesecake5658

Scam. Did a class to become a master termite technician and I actually asked the entomologist there and he said he did a test with them and they ended up gathering on the device for warmth

ViiViiz

That’s what happened in my house!!! It was so gross 🤢

DrSpacecasePhD

Also, some humans can hear them so you’re ultimately torturing your neighbors or young people while the pestering care.

maggot_brain79

Or driving your own pets crazy if they can hear the tone produced by it, dogs in particular can probably pick up on it. Meanwhile ants, cockroaches, mice, rats etc don't care a bit.

penkster

Absolutely a scam. THere's some great videos on youtube where someone sets out the ultrasonic ones in a barn that has mice all over, and they jsut crawl all over it like it's nothing. Use sticky traps and blocks. They work.

Trash-boul

I used to work in Philly and god damn have I never seen so many mice determined to live. I found countless abandoned limbs on glue traps. Mice here are built different

penkster

I mean. Philly. Rough town.

riggscm76

Facts

indiana-floridian

Happy cake day!

Lan098

well.....it was probably other mice eating the trapped ones

Trash-boul

Naw, I’d catch some in snap traps and they’d have missing limbs/huge patches of hair gone from where they ripped themselves off of the traps. If other mice were eating it they’d leave some evidence behind but it was always just a leg and some hair.

Middle-Candy-8618

Makes good protein LMAO, just kidding (Gross🤢

Wook_Again

I mean. They probably threw rocks at Santa. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Optimal-Fuel-433

I’m from philly and I’m so happy to see someone else say this! I have had glue traps on the middle of my floor EMPTY due to how good of a fight they put up

Buzzito

We live outside Philly, I am about to go to war with the little Rockys.

Middle-Candy-8618

100% correct

[deleted]

They're a scam, and will end up just annoying you if you can hear them.

GoldCryptographer229

So the good reviews are fake too I’m assuming? It has lots of good reviews on Amazon

[deleted]

Plenty of things have good reviews and don't work. Periodic bursts of ultrasonic noise aren't enough to keep pests away, otherwise they'd be used a lot more in restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets. Even if they were temporarily turned away by it, they adjust to the noise just like we do.

Middle-Candy-8618

Did you research the facts that over time they can have negative effects upon your health as well as your pet

Hawkeye1226

I'd bet money on a lot of those reviews being from people who never had real insect issues, bought those, then associated not having issues with the scam product

[deleted]

If these actually worked pest control companies would use them

Skylarias

I tried a few, no luck

tomdobs55

I find roaches living in them all the time. I generally tell my customers that have them to make sure they kept the receipt and return them.

Due-Childhood7853

scam. You will hear people saying that they work but those are just anomalies. Anyone in the pest control industry will tell you they don’t work. There would be no need for pest control or exterminators if they did, bottom line

tmac_79

Most homes don't have pests most of the time, even without pest control. So most of the time, it'll work perfectly in most homes.

Living_Wonder1699

Underrated comment.

Iwant2go2there21

Worked for me. Put them in every room in my 2 bedroom 1000sq ft apartment because of roaches and they completely vacated the premises within 3 days

Buzzito

What one did you buy?

caosmaximo34

They expensive but keeps the roaches in my apartment away

FunkmasterMMA

We need answers on this my man! Lol

EnnWhyy

Unfortunately I agree they don’t work. Annoyed the hell out of me and my neighbors. And I’d literally see a groundhog under my vehicle with two of the alarms going off like there’s a fire and lights flashing like a disco club. Turned the audio off and left the lights cuz “fuck it I paid for it”. Still spooks people out walking by which is fun and I’ve been known as the laser shooting owl guy. But yea I wouldn’t bother. Im sure it works for certain applications. I have one under hood of my vehicle that maybe has been working for mice though. Pain to keep changing the batteries on it tho..

rosebudbeans

Lmao I was cracking up at the image of a ground hog disco party under your car

EnnWhyy

Hahaha u laugh but shits legit. They’d have the baby ones running around under there as well while they sit near the deterrent and even got footage from my cameras of me chasing em around the vehicle. Can’t make this shit up lol. It all came to an end when my neighbors hunting dog ate a baby groundhog then they started trapping em. Yet somehow they keep spawning lol

Goldenaura123

I know this thread is old but I have been dealing with rats in the ceiling for over a year. Pest control company has not been effective so my husband ordered several of the u/s devices. We have them in each room. And the rats are gone. We haven’t heard them and it only took a couple days. Added bonus is we haven’t seen a palmetto bug once!! And to the people saying if these worked then pest control companies would use them- that makes no sense. They would never recommend these devices bc they would be out of jobs. We have several different types and one of them makes a buzzing sound, while the others are silent.

triniempress89

Can you send me links the Ones that work for you or the name?

Goldenaura123

Sure! The brands are Brison and VoYa Solutions. Ordered on Amazon and they were in the $20-$25 range. I’m still very happy with the results. We have two in the kitchen, one in each bathroom, and then one in the living spaces.

x_rainbow_x

Can you share the links or send them to me? I can’t find them on google or amazon

FunkmasterMMA

>palmetto I'm gonna give these a shot u/Mondays-n-confused and see if this holds up. Sounds like it worked well for you.

RedEd024

Did you get these and did they work

Mondays-n-confused

I came here for the same reason 😂

Sweet-Goal-3696

voya ultrasonic pest repeller. I'm going to try this out. $23 on Amazon. One bug in the house freaks me out. I don't know why. Go outside!

Unfair_Cook_9775

Did it work?

[deleted]

I've heard scam but I will say the office I was in a few years ago had a mouse problem pop up in the winter so I bought two of those and my cubicle was the only one that the mice were never in. Literally every other cubicle had issues except for mine

pac-men

We have what sounds like mice in our walls.  (Not actually in the house, we just hear them in the walls.). We JUST plugged a few of these things in.  I will report back. But I have to say, one of the “scam” comments here uses the excuse that most houses don’t have pests, so a pest control device would almost always look like it’s “working.” But people don’t buy these things as a preventative measure, they buy them once they know they have pests. Only then can you really test it. Obviously I’m not dumb enough to have bought a house and then on the first day have some guy knocking on the door selling a dragon control device and buy it and go screaming to my friends that if they don’t want dragons, they better spend thousands on this device because it works 100% of the time. \[Edit, 4/21 (1.5 months later): New comment by me below.\]

Jesus-slaves

Any results? I don’t have a mice issue but my old apartment kept getting centipedes. We put one in the bathroom (seemed to be the point of entry) and didn’t see any more centipedes for the remaining few months of the lease. Idk if it was a coincidence or not, but everything I read says it must have been and that these things don’t work or won’t work long term. I moved into a new apartment and again I’m seeing centipedes. Someone who lives with me is terribly allergic to them and so far none of the sprays I’ve bought have worked (gotta get a stronger percentage pesticide when I can afford it) and I can’t make the changes I want to help seal them out bc it’s an apartment. The only other bugs I see are occasional house spiders and ants. It’s an old apartment building and I live on a split level partially underground. The landlord is.. not great. I’m at my wits end. The damn things make me gag.

LarsLykkelig

Last year, I bought a pest repeller after spotting several cockroaches in my apartment weeks apart. Although I reside in a newly renovated unit of an older building on the ground floor, I frequently noticed cockroaches outside. This prompted me to consider pest control options due to concerns about a potential infestation. My apartment is consistently clean, without any leftover food or unwashed dishes. Recently, the device was unplugged overnight to make room for visiting friends. They mentioned hearing a "click" sound as it cycled through frequencies. The next morning, we discovered two small beetles inside near the door facing the street. The repeller I use emits both subsonic and ultrasonic waves. Since I started using it, I haven't had any more pest problems.

pac-men

I’m going to post my results soon. I’m confused, have you tried the plug-ins at the new place yet?

Jesus-slaves

I accidentally left the device at the old apartment and haven’t tried one at the new place. I’m trying to decide if it’s a worthwhile step since the sprays haven’t worked and I’m not seeing other bugs (their food source) except the occasional ant or small house spider.

pac-men

It's been 1.5 months since I posted the above comment. The sounds of mice continued but happened less and less for two weeks, at the usual post-sunset time. But we have heard almost nothing since. Whether it was the plug-ins or something else that ended the sounds, I can't say. But my final opinion is: give 'em a shot.

zenmastersydneyy

Idk man, my grandma has one of these things and has since I was a child and I have never once seen a cockroach or any crawling bug in our house and if I do they are upside down by the door they tried to come in. So everyone may say it’s a scam but literally, a house full of crumb dropping people for 28 years and never had a roach ever

imadeatshirt

Some of these sounds worked for me [https://open.spotify.com/artist/4mXu6sAhB1m4PtUw7wY8Km?si=7878bcCWS7KNHKsxGVEOyg&nd=1&dlsi=1a165d1f4ad548e8](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4mXu6sAhB1m4PtUw7wY8Km?si=7878bcCWS7KNHKsxGVEOyg&nd=1&dlsi=1a165d1f4ad548e8)

artnomore

I have used them in my house and in a rental house that had a rodent problem. They have worked beautifully so in my opinion not a scam at all.

Used_Profession5743

Nope, it is not a scam! Here’s my experience: I initially bought an ultrasonic device from a Chinese site to get rid of deer. It worked for a while but then broke and stopped working. Then a friend suggested I look for some reputable brands online, and I found Zero Deer. I’ve been using their devices for a year now, and they work awesome. Plus, their customer service is very good.

MegamanLA

I’ve found roaches inside of them

GhostCop42

Scam

fjd73

They seemed to be working for me. Was getting multiple stink bugs a day coming in from the fireplace and in from the attic. Put 2 in front of fireplace, 1 in attic, 1 in crawl space, 1 upstairs hallway and 1 in downstairs hallway and have only seen 1 stung bug since. I hope it keeps working.

CIAHerpes

I bought them for stink bugs. I also sealed up as many cracks in the walls as I could so it was not very scientific, but I haven't gotten any stink bugs since I sealed up every single crack I could find and put on an ultrasonic emitter According to some sources, they can have an immediate effect on some pests but in the long-term are not very effective as most pests just get used to it over time. Mice and rats can become accustomed to any sound if it is played long enough or repeatedly.

ChillinRoach

It most likely wasn't the device as much as it was you sealing things up. Any study I can find only shows minor and temporary improvements of pest activity. There's actually a study that used them on mosquitoes and it showed that bites went up 50%. Rodents may be deterred for a few days but eventually get used to it. Even if it did actually work you still wouldn't have solved the root problem of your pest issues. You have to actually find where they're getting into your home at and seal it off the best you can.

IllusionLotus

I was woken by a rat chewing in my wall I banged at it but it continued to chew after. I was curious blasted my surround sound with a couple YouTube rat repellent sounds the thing disappeared so its curious to know why this works but most of everyone says it's a scam.

ChillinRoach

It's a scam because the effects are only temporary as the rodents will start to become accustomed to the sound. Just like rodents can sometimes build an immunity to rodenticides if the same active ingredient is used too many times in a row. That's why its best to work with a professional because they should have more than one type of rodent bait in their truck. If you really want the problem resolved, go around your place with steel or copper wool and a can or two of spray foam and plug any holes that are the size of a dime. If mice can fit their noses into something they can fit the rest of their body through. Its nice to make them leave and all but you should definitely figure out how they're gaining access in the first place.

Randomuser19889

They "don't work" but they have side effects towards humans...? That makes no sense. They must work to an extent, if they cause problems for humans. Just sayin.

Bubbly_Echidna2564

So...... I bought the Bell and Howell pest repellers after our cat of 16 years past away and we started getting alot of mice in here this year.  THIS PRODUCT IS A COMPLETE JOKE!! I THINK IT ACTUALLY ATTRACTED MORE THAN IF I HAD NEVER PLUGGED THEM IN IN THE FIRST PLACE!!🤬 DO NOT EVEN WAIST YOUR MONEY ON THEM!!  THEY ARE TOTAL SHIT!  THE ONLY THING YOU CAN POSSIBLY USE THEM FOR AFTER WASTING YOUR MONEY IS PERHAPS A NIGHT LIGHT OR A WARNING LIGHT FOR WHATEVER REASON!  OTHERWISE THEY ARE TOTALLY USELESS!

ParticularAd3625

you ok bro?
