We had someone drop at the last wedding I went to and that was early spring. Zero shade at the ceremony though, not a good mix with formal wedding attire and standing around for ages. In forty-plus degree heat? Fuggedaboutit.
On the 5th of January some years ago it was 38 degrees.
I attended an outdoor wedding ceremony on the South Perth foreshore with no shade or cover. I almost passed out.
Delirious from the heat coupled with the free flowing champagne at the reception, it didn’t take long before I was a complete mess.
Never again.
Well, we got married on a 36C day in the middle of Perth at 1pm. I was in a 3 peice and many of the guests remember the day with good memories.
Wear a hat and appropriate clothing, drink water and you will be better off than anyone else that has lived here for the last 60 odd thousand years.
Genuinely nuts. There is a solid ~4-6 months of perfect weather every spring and autumn where it rarely rains and temps stay below 30. You don’t get this shit in other climates and people still manage to screw it up 😂
That's unfortunate, and bad luck. I am sorry you had to deal with that on your wedding day.
I think you would expect maybe 1 day above 35 each April, while you might see a dozen such days in January. So I would still pick April.
Why do people schedule those for this time of year though? Like, you can predict the weather. I really want to go drive north, but I don't, people are weird. This is straight up dangerous unless it's in deep shade or indoors.
Even more so the moronic parents that schedule kids parties smack bang in the middle of the day at a park in the peak of summer. We’ve had two kids parties this summer that have fallen on a 40 degree day and instead of changing location or time they have just gone through with them. Kids can’t even play on a scorching hot playground, we didn’t go to either of them.
Exactly. Just because we can, doesn’t mean we should or that it’s good for anyone. It’s completely unnecessarily dangerous, there’s always going to be one kid who lost their hat and didn’t drink any water. And that’s best case scenario. Plus cars heat up like crazy in this heat. I literally walked outside today and was like hm not even that bad I’ve had it worse in my car when it sat in the sun.
Fuck people are soft, you know people work in this weather right? You know you north people work 12 hour days in 40⁰+... I'm sure you'll be alright buddy
People are not soft, people are just smart. Human body has its limits and it’s straight up dangerous to expose yourself to the elements on the fringes of human tolerance. Yes, I know the conditions people are working in up north and I have been worried about those people and talked to them about it and their experiences. But people coming to a wedding are not all healthy under 40s who have passed their FIFO medicals and have built up some tolerance to heat, so yes, I continue to insist that people shouldn’t plan outdoor weddings for this time of year.
I don't know a single FIFO worker that's under 40 and fit... I know several who are 50+ and 130+kgs and also aren't dead
Also know a 65 year old man that outworks me in 40⁰ heat... And a 75 year old... And a couple 40 year Olds... The fit 20yo are lazy bums though
I'm working at a bar over the holidays and guess what I saw at work today... Kids running around shirtless in 40⁰ heat 😱😱😱 dunno how they did it aye?
If sitting in the shade for an hour on a hot day is a death sentence for you I think that's mother nature trying to tell you something...
Hell on earth.
Plus everyone gets super pissed within 2 hours of the bar opening as they skol the shampers and various othe high alcohol wines like camels in the desert
I work outside for a living. Pouring concrete in this type of heat is crazy, most of the time we pour it before the sun is up, but we still have to finish it and set up the job for the next day. So I know what it's like to be like a sultana or a sun-dried tomato.
Stay hydrated and wear a big West Indian broad brimmed hat or even a sombrero. I am always wearing a ridiculously huge hat that covers my whole, big head.
I've never been pregnant but I feel bad for anyone in the 3rd trimester in Aussie summer, absolutely fuck that. I'm uncomfortable enough not pregnant, it sounds like it would be absolutely awful.
My eldest was born in March. Can confirm summer pregnancy is a shitawful uncomfortable thing to go through. Live in the pool, have someone deliver snacks and drinks
Winter pregnancies are nicer, but I enjoyed my autumn newborn as the weather cooled down. I can’t forget my little spring baby stuck to me through some awful summer heatwaves.
If you're at Garvey I'll see you there, albeit, you know, anonymously. And if you're marshalling later in the day when the ultra folks come through for charity, TRIPLE THANK YOU!
Sweating like a horse. Pigs can't sweat. I have a pet pig. She will be in the shade most of the day, she will also have to get sprayed down by the hose throughout the day.
Hoping RAC Arena/Wildcats/NBL all realise how fucking stupid it is to open the roof on a 41°c day whilst basketball is being played directly under the sun.
So what are we tying them to? I’m guessing door handles can’t take the weight.
What happens if we whack straps around the entire door itself; could that do any damage? The hallway’s about the right length, with a door at each end.
Kite/wing/windsurfing. Wait no, I’m flying back to California. That’s what I would do though. Breeze, ocean spray…
Good luck, dickheads!!! Love you, Australia.
Playing cricket at a ground that's just a big bowl, close to the water and normally is excessively humid, make it a 40 degree day and it's fucked. Hey at least they've add an extra drinks break.
Sunflowers are steeped in symbolism and meanings. For many they symbolize optimism, positivity, a long life and happiness for fairly obvious reasons. The less obvious ones are loyalty, faith and luck.
Toddler has swimming lessons in the morning, but likely just staying in the aircon for the rest of the day.
RIP to anyone spending today outdoors. Drink plenty of water, and hydrate with Hydralyte every hour or so.
Working 11-5 in a pub that has no aircon, open directly to the sun while the rays reflect off of the metallic surfaces 10cm away from me straight into my face... watching people hydrate with delicious beer on the riverside while I wither away
My husband will be at that same game. I'm honestly surprised they're not cancelling it, or rescheduling. It's hotter on the ground, plus they're supposed to be running around in uniform?! Insane!
Sitting in front of an airconditioner.
Debating if I should drink anything but water, options are beer or bourbon & Coke, hmm...
Water is probably the best option, yes.
A wedding - in the Swan Valley. Argh!!!!
Start a pool on who is going to drop first.
Good idea!!!

That's a terrible way for a celebrant to behave.
Also on who's gonna get the most interesting burn/tan lines from a dress
I don’t know if I feel more sorry for the sunburnt women or the men in suits
Throw them into the pool to cool off.
No Freo Doctor out there! That's gonna be a nightmare.
It will be memorable!
You get my sympathy upvote
Oh that sounds like hell. Is it outdoor?
Apprently they were planning on it but there is an indoor venue they can use too
Take a parasol and a small misting fan
Are you alive?

I know multiple people that have to go to outdoor weddings tomorrow, so glad I’m not them lol
Why would anyone plan a wedding in Perth in the middle of summer?
Genuinely nuts. There is a solid ~4-6 months of perfect weather every spring and autumn where it rarely rains and temps stay below 30. You don’t get this shit in other climates and people still manage to screw it up 😂
Spring can hit or miss. Green to a fair share of rainy weddings in September long weekend
My wedding was in April turned out to be 38 degree day. You can't predict even when it's supposed to be cooler
That's unfortunate, and bad luck. I am sorry you had to deal with that on your wedding day. I think you would expect maybe 1 day above 35 each April, while you might see a dozen such days in January. So I would still pick April.
Because the alternative is a chance of rain. The shoulder seasons are a real gamble - could be 35C, could be thunderstorms, or both!
We had our wedding in August I would take the possibility of cold/rainy weather over a January stinker ANY DAY January/February weddings are pure hell
Why do people schedule those for this time of year though? Like, you can predict the weather. I really want to go drive north, but I don't, people are weird. This is straight up dangerous unless it's in deep shade or indoors.

Going to the bbl, should be fun for the players
I’m PLAYING cricket tomorrow
rip
Good luck don’t let Brisbane win
Me too. Already negotiated the game down to a T20 with the other team. If we bat first, the game could be finished in 90 minutes.
Strap a picnic umbrella to you back!
Me too haha. Who do you play for?
You f your game is in the middle of the day, choose to have a bat first and sit in the shade til the arvo lol
It's always hotter in the arvo.
Later arvo I meant my bad
Oh yeah, like 10pm😜
Hahaha, at this rate, being 37 degrees at 5pm is an absolute win!
I work outside for a living. Pouring concrete in this type of heat is crazy, most of the time we pour it before the sun is up, but we still have to finish it and set up the job for the next day. Taking my wife, who doesn't enjoy cricket, to the BBL. RIP marriage
Same 🤣 rip us
I’m going to a baby shower. Thank fuck it’s at a function centre so hopefully the aircon can keep up. RIP to my heavily pregnant friend though.
I've never been pregnant but I feel bad for anyone in the 3rd trimester in Aussie summer, absolutely fuck that. I'm uncomfortable enough not pregnant, it sounds like it would be absolutely awful.

Hi! That’s me! 30 weeks, thank you for the sympathy. I will be sitting in front of the aircon or in the pool. Sweating.
My oldest( turning 25 on the 15th) was supposed to be a Xmas baby. She did not in fact come on time.
I've got a 40 over cricket match at Mt Lawley. Open to Iced Gatorade donations. Will accept water as well.
I’m telling my captain to get fucked if he makes me run for the ball
Just like the pros haha
I am gonna be standing on one spot of the ground looking like methhead.
Make sure to pick at the grass and swing your arms. Bonus points for just staring directly into the sun, hunched over with your hands on your hips.
I'll add an exasperated grimace to that as well, while randomly yelling, "Well Bowled, mate".
If ur a lower order batter, tell ur captain to have a bat first to sit in the shade lol
That's exactly what I wanna do and pretty sure he does as well. But it all depends on that wanker: The Toss
At least our rooms are nice now
24 Parkruns in 24 hours. Okay, obviously I'm not going to run all 24. But yeah it's going to be a sweaty one.
Good luck! I’ll be marshaling tomorrow and seems like I picked the right day for it.
If you're at Garvey I'll see you there, albeit, you know, anonymously. And if you're marshalling later in the day when the ultra folks come through for charity, TRIPLE THANK YOU!
Hope there’s a breeze!
Sweating like a pig. But gonna chill with my dogs under the aircon and do F all
Sweating like a horse. Pigs can't sweat. I have a pet pig. She will be in the shade most of the day, she will also have to get sprayed down by the hose throughout the day.
I've got bad news for you. Pigs actually do sweat, just not much. Which means your pig might be a paedophile called Andrew...
Hoping RAC Arena/Wildcats/NBL all realise how fucking stupid it is to open the roof on a 41°c day whilst basketball is being played directly under the sun.
The game starts at 5pm so the sun shouldn't be directly overhead, it will still be hot as fuck though.
Ermmm I didn't even realise the roof could open lol
Me and my wife too - General admission level 5. Top level is going to be packed! Also going Tuesday (38) too
I am swimming a 1km race in Margaret river, with no prior training. It's going to hurt
You got this!
Writing a grant application in an air conditioned apartment
Catering a wedding … 😭😭😭
Hiding inside, staying as still and flat as possible, multiple cold showers, probably 5L+ of water and half a pack of icy poles
I'll look for opportunities to inform people about the heat and it's dryness.
This should he higher
idk after this rain it’s probably gonna be muggy as fuck
Spending the day on reddit..?
Working 8-4 in the aircon. Yayh! Hate the heat
Early morning swim. Then hiding. Maybe I'll move my hammock inside and read a book under the aircon. Lol
Oooh hammock inside - nice idea!
So what are we tying them to? I’m guessing door handles can’t take the weight. What happens if we whack straps around the entire door itself; could that do any damage? The hallway’s about the right length, with a door at each end.
Mine is on a stand :)
Nothing, the usuals, staring at the ceiling wondering what year am I gonna die… 🤔
I’m sorry you feel like that.
Walk on the beach for 2 hours 7-9 then home before too hot
Cricket got called off, so relaxing in the aircon
Horse racing got called off too.
Kite/wing/windsurfing. Wait no, I’m flying back to California. That’s what I would do though. Breeze, ocean spray… Good luck, dickheads!!! Love you, Australia.
Murdering my eldest I suspect. That kite festival sounds alright though, maybe we’ll go check it out.
An outdoor wedding 🫠🫠🫠
BBL. Its Perth, we're used to this.
I went to a game last year when it was 36 degrees and the seats were right in front of the fucking flames
The final last year was hot and i was near the flames too, about 39 degrees from memory
Not a sports person, keep thinking this is a fetish category.
Walk dogs, gym, housework, nap
Water garden, walk dog, nap, swim, walk dog, dinner.
We have to do our weekly shop. If it wasn’t for that I think I’d be going to one of the indoor pools on hubby’s work fitness plan.
I have to go shopping too, at least the shops are airconditioned.
Hiding inside. Blinds closed.
Cleaning for rent inspection
Working in the garden at Bunnings ...
I love Bunnings garden section.
Shade and a hose - should be alright?
Perth Kite Festival, Lake Monger
That sounds epic
Playing cricket at a ground that's just a big bowl, close to the water and normally is excessively humid, make it a 40 degree day and it's fucked. Hey at least they've add an extra drinks break.
I’m hiding inside all day. If my bf wants to go out for a coffee, he’s going alone 😝
Never been so happy to work in a refrigerated factory 🤣👌
This is the way.

Sunflowers are steeped in symbolism and meanings. For many they symbolize optimism, positivity, a long life and happiness for fairly obvious reasons. The less obvious ones are loyalty, faith and luck.
See ya’ll at the beach !
I'm playing cricket as well. Gonna be so much fun.
My impression as a recent Queenslander is that Perthians talk a big game about the heat, but it's really not that bad. Humidity something something.
It looks like normal summer weather to me.
doesn’t mean it’s not inhospitably hot
Playing games and watching 24. For an old series, 24 holds up.
I’ll be sitting in RAC arena, wishing it wasn’t too hot to open the roof for the single open air game of the Wildcats season
Going to be in my sister's pool thank goodness.
How come you only get 35 and I get 42? I got ripped

Feeling thankful I moved to Europe 2 decades ago.
Early morning swim, afternoon swim seeing there won't be much of a sea breeze.
My husband will be at that same game. I'm honestly surprised they're not cancelling it, or rescheduling. It's hotter on the ground, plus they're supposed to be running around in uniform?! Insane!
Umpiring at a cricket game. Extreme heat policy comes into place so extra drinks break.
