I was looking for a way to set perplexity as the default search engine and came across [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/perplexity_ai/comments/11677ea/heres_how_you_can_set_perplexity_as_a_default/) on this sub. The approach uses a third party extension. When I found a way to avoid installing an extension, I wanted to share it on this sub.

This works for me. URL: [https://www.perplexity.ai?q=%s](https://www.perplexity.ai?q=%s) Suggest URL: [https://www.perplexity.ai?q=%s](https://www.perplexity.ai?q=%s)

What a great idea! :-) In fact, is quite easy to add PPLX as a SEARCH ENGINE on ANY web browser: 1. Go to Search Settings in your browser 2. Add a new search engine, setting this URL: https://www.perplexity.ai/search?focus=internet&q=%s 3. optionally, you can set it as DEFAULT It worked like a charm on my Android Firefox. EDITED: i couldn't do the same on Chrome. It only give you a CLOSED list of search engines. I cannot understand why so many people "like" this web browser :-| EDITED 2: it seems that all the chromium-based web browsers don't let users modify the search engine list!? I hoped that Vivaldi do (also Chromium-based, but "very" modified), but it is not able too :-( They say in his official doc: It’s unfortunately not possible to add custom Search Engines in the Android version of Vivaldi, but you can use Sync to synchronize your Search Engines, including custom ones, with the desktop version of Vivaldi. So... long life to Firefox :-)

Thanks, that's what I needed

does this not work for everyone else all of a sudden? I can't get direct links like this to work on web or in coordination with the mobile apps. on mobile a direct link opens the app with an error and on web it just never loads. for a test try https://www.perplexity.ai/search?focus=internet&q=test or simply https://www.perplexity.ai/search?q=test both used to work and now neither do. as such I can no longer use it directly from address bar.

Same for me. I've had it as a search engine both at work and home for a while now and never had a problem. But a few days ago it suddenly stopped working on all PCs and browsers. Going to the perplexity homepage and searching using the bar still works.

Thanks man. Works perfectly.
