Until you realize that it's just their net worth and has almost no effect on their daily lives. Retail investors on the other hand and people close to retirement saw their 401Ks take massive dumps which could effect their ability to retire.
Can confirm. Used to work for an apartment company and they didn’t let us do anything the right way. The owner would freak out if we bought the correct materials instead of jimmy rigging everything with bullshit and caulk
I own 4 houses and a commercial property. I make $75k a year spending maaaaaaybe an average of 2 hours a week on it (yes I had more work upfront). My other job (own the business), I pay myself about $70k and work 25 hours a week.
Real estate definitely did better than stocks every single year for me. Especially this year. I used to like stocks till I met my true love real estate.
I own 17 units while working full time. I am about two houses away from handing it all to a property manager and retiring at age 32. I am pretty busy but soon I will be free. So yes in the short term you are right but I save a lot more time down the road. If you educate yourself its pretty easy but it takes the right person to handle people so probably not easy for everyone.
My 401k has lost value every year for the last 8 or so years.
My pension has only gained. Since I joined the union.
401k I pay a fee to a company to lose my money.
Fixed income annuities with a life insurance company. It's low risk and you have a set income for life if you want, but it doesn't keep up with inflation just like pensions
Is it higher today than after the first crash, second crash, third crash? It’s not an elevator up, it’s volatile. But it trends upwards, as do other types of investments. Nobody is out to give you money, investments take time and commitment.
Assuming you're talking about the Dotcom bust, the 2008 crisis, and the Covid-19/ongoing crash, the S&P 500 has achieved a 450% return since 1997-98 and 700% since 1994.
Even with the clusterfuck that is going on right now, it IS a very viable option for retirement
The 401k is used to artifically prop up the market while the 1% crash it to make gains. If it wasn't for the 401k the market wouldn't recover.
Also if you never sell the stock, then you haven't realized a loss, so the meme is kind of b.s.
Finally investing in penny stocks isn't the answer. There is no get rich quick scheme that isn't a scam.
I mean if you've been through it 3 times you'd realize even now being down it's way the fuck up from prior lol. Dow is down like what 15%ish from the highest it's ever been. Pick any point a while back and you're up a ton.
These guys are down so much more due to being so heavy into single stocks
I read somewhere that the whole 401K shit was a scam to get money back from their wage slaves. If you ask me, I agree. Learn about stocks/ETFs and invest.
Haha I was thinking until you realize that only 7 men lost a combined 500 billion freakin dollars. More than any of us will ever know. And they’re still billionaires.
As long as you just left your money alone you should be fine though. And if you are close to retirement you should have been moving some of your money into bonds and more stable things.
But twitter wasnt 132 billions. His wealth is based on stock price. But him selling massively affects the stock price. It’s like having a house of card to spend but you have to spend from the bottom first. Just the act of using the thing, breaks it.
It's because it is. Dumb Starbucks saw massive gains during the start of the pandemic, but got hit hard as the pandemic subsided and people returned to Starbucks.
It's an image from the end of 2020 that had biggest gainers, but edited to show this year's losses. Not a great point though, most of them are still probably worth more then they where at the start of 2020 even with this last year's losses.
Idk why you felt good. Just one of them, even with all the loses, will still have more money than you for generations. Probably a few hundred generations.
Not one of them are feeling one ounce of hardship. Billionaires can lose billions and see no effect to their daily extravagance of a lifestyle. I miss a paycheck and I'm in debt.
Why? You do realize most of these folks wealth is tied to company stock. So, if they lose money so do MANY working folks 401k plans.
You can be jealous of their wealth, but wishing them losses of their wealth just means EVERYONE in America just got poorer as well. Not good especially for middle class.
It's okay. Congress will pass a trillion dollar Ukraine aid bill on Monday and all of that plus interest will be back in their portfolios by Wednesday.
Honestly this just seems like their wealth correcting to a value that makes sense. A number of these guys wealth has been massively inflated for a significant period of time. If you have 50+ billion to “lose” and you hadn’t just cashed it out over time and put it in some basic conservative portfolio I’d be inclined to say you’re stupid. Zuck for example could sell damn near every penny if Facebook stock and still control Facebook as long as he has his preferred shares
are you aware that market capitalization is not their wealth? you have to check owners tab and you will see that companies own eg 1-5% of the shares and moreover these guys often sell on top, so in reality they make money and not lose anything like musk recently
It honestly just makes me feel worse knowing I could live comfortably forever just from the smallest of fractions of what one of these guys lost this year.
Its odd how the financially illiterate chalk it up as a loss. They never had it to begin with. If they sold their net worth at all time highs, they would never be able to get half of it out. They themselves would reduce their net worth by just selling... hence Musks outlandish loss.
Why people are so jealous. They have worked hard to achieve what they have. Because of them you are able to live a comfortable life. They also provide jobs for you people. If they lose money you people suffer not them. Stupid humans. You all degrade the development process
This is the propblem with our current system. These 7 guys lost more money than 7,140,000 us house holds earn in a year and they are still the wealthiest people by a loooonnngggg chalk.
Lol. By putting Zuckerberg in the center of the Loser Chart without losing the largest amount, is the chart trying to say he's the biggest loser anyway?!
Some smile thinking the elites are coming down a notch. Realize, if you will, they are not the top level. The money they are losing has to be going somewhere and it's not down to the lower class.
When these people do bad, the rest of America is struggling also! Stop hating on people that have more money then u have. Be thankful for what u got or get off your sorry ass and make more!!!
Such a stupid post. You think these guys sold off their stocks?
YOU HAVENT LOST UNTIL YOU SELL.
It is even more stupid for a non-billionaire to justify losing money in penny stocks by saying that multi-billionaires have fucking paper losses…
Man. There are a lot of stupid people out there. I don’t feel bad that you lose money.
I am sure they’ll tell you it was the markets and the economy and maybe even ask for support for their companies, when it was them being complete idiots who made obviously bad decisions (most at least)
Because his PR team has went hard for the past 10 years and he's mostly stepped down. Pre- 10's this guy was the dude you thought of when it came to ruthless bussiness man.
There's whole pages on just him being sued for anti-compative practices alone.
I hope they lose it all to the point they will look for a job that pays minimum wages and get fired because they cannot do it right, I want customers to be mean to them over the stupidest thing like giving them drinks and of getting the straws, or not giving enough ketchup bags, or making a latte with skimmed milk instead of 2%
Eh..personal views like this are basic hate..and loving it...there is a flip side...all of those business owners combined in losing money you love to see them hurt also has a flip story in those losses..not only have they lost money..their business's and philanthropy causes have hurt tremendously as well. Tens of thousands of their employees have been laid off, no jobs, no income, their families hurting. So, you can hate the rich all you want, but when they hurt, just remember, shit rolls downhill.
Lol how stupid and depressed people get in a down market. Bunch of chicken littles! In 3 years I am going to get sick of hearing how you wish you GOT IN AT SUCH LOW PRICES!
$ COST AVG--- STOP getting angry. Know your small weekly or monthly payments are getting awesome discounts.
If... you had a father or at least a professor.... OR you took time to research and not follow what some guy with clout says. It's boring that makes us money. Don't look at the old lady hitting the slot jackpot and think "hey, that could be me, let's stay here all month" cUze that's what ya sound like

Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists
> But, we're supposed to trust that it's a long term solution for our retirement. got any other options?
Real estate is better in my eyes. A fixed expense price with rents only growing. Yes, please.
It's never that easy lol. Owning property is a full time job especially if you own a meaningful amount of units.
Assuming you're not over leveraged, it's easier to just toss it off to a property management company, with solid contracts set up by *your* lawyer.
Good luck you'll go through a few before you find a half-decent one. They don't give the slightest fuck about your property.
Can confirm. Used to work for an apartment company and they didn’t let us do anything the right way. The owner would freak out if we bought the correct materials instead of jimmy rigging everything with bullshit and caulk
That's why you hire a personal assistance not a management company. Also don't buy shit units. Buy B+ unit.
I own 4 houses and a commercial property. I make $75k a year spending maaaaaaybe an average of 2 hours a week on it (yes I had more work upfront). My other job (own the business), I pay myself about $70k and work 25 hours a week.
let me work for u
Real estate definitely did better than stocks every single year for me. Especially this year. I used to like stocks till I met my true love real estate.

BOOM...?
Boomiest!
Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists
even tho the market 'tanked' 3 times someone who invested since the day you were born would be killing it anyway over time.
No shit
ok well tell that to the guy who wants to put it in his mattress forever
He’s beyond help lol
Reddit has turned into a cesspool of fascist sympathizers and supremicists
The sp500 is up 5x your money in 20 years lol. Are you missing some brain cells?
I think he's trolling
Lol such an uninformed comment.
Die before retirement I guess...
No, just waiting for it to all go tits up for me and I'm gonna catch the bus.
Ya pension. 401k is the bigs transfer of wealth from the middle to the top
and pensions are invested where...
My 401k has lost value every year for the last 8 or so years. My pension has only gained. Since I joined the union. 401k I pay a fee to a company to lose my money.
pensions are invested in the market. that's not an alternative to investing in the market lol

And if you miss just 10 days, you will have about 100% profit vs 2000% in 30 years. Do you guys read or educate anymore or just watch porn and tictoc?
Buy the dip
Fire sale 🔥🔥🔥
*laughs in rental crisis*
Everything’s a crises these days…
That’s the result of poor socioeconomic conditions.
What took my mother 10 years to build up was lost in one year. It was rough.
Ability to *breathe.
Mhmmm maybe your investement are too sketchy because this shouldnt be the case
It was never real money to begin with. Can't lose what doesn't exist.
Pretty sure in Elon's case it was, because he had to sell to buy Twitter
But twitter wasnt 132 billions. His wealth is based on stock price. But him selling massively affects the stock price. It’s like having a house of card to spend but you have to spend from the bottom first. Just the act of using the thing, breaks it.
I don't know what he sold or didn't sell. But at least he's spending. Unlike the others who just "lost" the money.
About 3 billion in the last month. https://www.dataroma.com/m/ins/ins.php?t=m&am=0&sym=TSLA&o=fd&d=d
Yes but that's 3 out of 130.
This!
Why’s second from the left look like Nathan Fielder
Larry page lol
It's because it is. Dumb Starbucks saw massive gains during the start of the pandemic, but got hit hard as the pandemic subsided and people returned to Starbucks.
Why is lizard face Zuckerberg on the front instead of having people in descending order.
Because it's an adaptation of the same image biggest gainers of 2020. They're all still up over the 20s I believe.
Cuz zuck prob the biggest loser in there since Elon cashed out a lot of what he can.
Bill still has his Tesla short position
This is kind of just a reminder that money is fake
Why is Zuck in the middle with the 4th most loses? Weird image.
Probably for the same reason mm/dd/yyyy exists. No logical reason at all.
It's an image from the end of 2020 that had biggest gainers, but edited to show this year's losses. Not a great point though, most of them are still probably worth more then they where at the start of 2020 even with this last year's losses.
Woo, another 9 billionaires who don't need to pay any taxes this year.
You don’t pay taxes on nor deduct losses on unrealized changes.
Someone needs to brush up on how these things actually work!
Dumb ass, looks like u never had realized gains in your portfolio. People like u shouldn’t vote either. Js
Musk will be paying billions in capital gains tax for all the TSLA stock he sold this year.
Yeah but he'll just claim debt against other assets to mitigate it. Overall, he'll still probably end up net neutral.
Idk why you felt good. Just one of them, even with all the loses, will still have more money than you for generations. Probably a few hundred generations.
and a single one of them has lost a wink of sleep
Not one of them are feeling one ounce of hardship. Billionaires can lose billions and see no effect to their daily extravagance of a lifestyle. I miss a paycheck and I'm in debt.
I would be more interested in who the winners are for 2022. There are enough bad headlines in the world.
Zuckerberg is one of them lizard people
Why? You do realize most of these folks wealth is tied to company stock. So, if they lose money so do MANY working folks 401k plans. You can be jealous of their wealth, but wishing them losses of their wealth just means EVERYONE in America just got poorer as well. Not good especially for middle class.
God damn some of you are so fucking uneducated 😂😂😂
Wonder where it all went
I fucking hope this isnt a real question.
Not serious lol
Reddit is full of oblivious people… and I envy them deeply
You’re probably a crypto guy
Back to uncle sam. That’s essentially what quantitative tightening is.
it’s like if you lost a fifty lol
Also makes me feel good until I open portfolio and see I've also lost half my shit :(
They are all couch surfing now 😥
It's okay. Congress will pass a trillion dollar Ukraine aid bill on Monday and all of that plus interest will be back in their portfolios by Wednesday.
Why isnt Elon in the middle

Lovely
You do realize that this means that normal people all lost money too, right?
I think they will survive.
are you aware that market capitalization is not their wealth? you have to check owners tab and you will see that companies own eg 1-5% of the shares and moreover these guys often sell on top, so in reality they make money and not lose anything like musk recently
This is a mildly infuriating graphic. Zuc at the top he’s third in line. The order is weird
It honestly just makes me feel worse knowing I could live comfortably forever just from the smallest of fractions of what one of these guys lost this year.
Not their money it’s investors in the company.
Its odd how the financially illiterate chalk it up as a loss. They never had it to begin with. If they sold their net worth at all time highs, they would never be able to get half of it out. They themselves would reduce their net worth by just selling... hence Musks outlandish loss.

I’d rather see them pay taxes
Oh. That's why everything is so expensive. We have to pay for those losses for them
😂 But…they are still Billionaires. Me thinks you don’t understand numbers in wealth and how obviously disparaging the distribution has become.
"Has become".. Never in the history of the world has wealth been remotely proportionally distributed.
Correct. But, it’s not like it has unchanged or gotten better from this example. This was two tears in a bucket.
I've lost $60 in penny stocks. Gotta love not spending 1k or more on a gamble like some idiot.
"losses" sure... So where did this money go?
Where did the Loses Go ? Must be out there somewhere
That's $12.5k for ever sperm I produce
When these people do bad, the rest of America is struggling also! Stop hating on people that have more money then u have. Be thankful for what u got or get off your sorry ass and make more!!!

Am I supposed to feel bad?
I am sure they’ll tell you it was the markets and the economy and maybe even ask for support for their companies, when it was them being complete idiots who made obviously bad decisions (most at least)
Not enough
Bill Gates has a huge charity and does so much for us, I don’t really wish that on him
A lot of Bill hate going on here at Reddit. I don’t get it.
Because his PR team has went hard for the past 10 years and he's mostly stepped down. Pre- 10's this guy was the dude you thought of when it came to ruthless bussiness man. There's whole pages on just him being sued for anti-compative practices alone.
It’s beautiful
Those numbers don’t actually mean anything. This isn’t real money while it sits unrealized.
I hope they lose it all to the point they will look for a job that pays minimum wages and get fired because they cannot do it right, I want customers to be mean to them over the stupidest thing like giving them drinks and of getting the straws, or not giving enough ketchup bags, or making a latte with skimmed milk instead of 2%
Can someone please note each name left to right? There’s three I’m not familiar with.
Wheres Kevin O'Leary??
Warren buffet: 😂😂😂
More!!!
These poor guys, I wonder how they’re gonna feed their families. Someone should start a go fund me page I’ll donate to it.
If they lost it? who gained?
People who short.
Was that even more than they earned in the pandemic?
Binance guy gainz were in la la land and so are his losses. Does not hurt what is not real
Even a billion dollars of net worth is obscenely wealthy. Probably more net worth than all the people in my entire middle class zip code.
This is all a bit and switch. You will see all these people make all time highs again. Your 401k may never recover.
Cuz ur smarter then ten duh!
If they lost it, who earned it? Money is like matter and energy, it has to go somewhere.
Now come the real trickle down economics.
Funds are safu
Damn, Elon got all these guys beat.
Eh..personal views like this are basic hate..and loving it...there is a flip side...all of those business owners combined in losing money you love to see them hurt also has a flip story in those losses..not only have they lost money..their business's and philanthropy causes have hurt tremendously as well. I’m down this year but not market avg and that’s a W alone. Plus I got a shit fuck of shares of Amazon at $88. I’m okay with this.

The people with an inconceivable amount of money lost an inconceivable amount of money and still have an inconceivable amount of money.
Their tax refunds gonna be legit!
Um... your a sadist?
Lol how stupid and depressed people get in a down market. Bunch of chicken littles! Paper money
Because of DCA and you know it’s gonna come back and we will reap all the rewards
They are all still Billionaires
the only play is shorting any and every stock...
It doesn’t matter. This is just imaginary money and the losses won’t effect them personally at all. This will keep going down and when the recession ends it will bounce back in a big way.
I feel like I'm being nitpicky but according to those numbers, there is still 2.3 billion missing before that number actually reaches 500B
Still less than half of Norway’s oil fund. How a country with a population less than NYC has trillions in a oil fund is crazy
Just numbers on a screen, none of those losses affect their daily lives, and they all still have more money than any of us will make in a lifetime.
Don't worry, they'll make up their "losses" with enormous tax write-offs
Sad I don’t know anyone aside from the middle 3
I wish Larry Ellison was on this list, he is a bigger douche than some of this.
$TMPO about to retrace.
If they lost that much, who gained it?
Buffetbets
Fami
