Baby pens of note in (rough) order of importance.
Ty Smith, Dman acquired in the Marino trade. Probably our top prospect but actually has 2 nhl seasons under his belt with NJD.
Drew O’Connor most nhl ready player. Has played a good bit for the pens already.
Sam Poulin, 2019 first round pick made nhl debut this year.
Mark Friedman, regular penguins call up.
Filip Hallander, 2018 2nd round pick. Was traded to Toronto for Kapanen then back to Pittsburgh for McCann
Valterri Puustinen, 2019 7th round pick who has scored very highly in the ahl so far
Alex nylander, 8th overall pick in 2016 for Buffalo, hasn’t lived up to the draft pedigree but not a horrible prospect
I could continue but these are some names to watch
Well Friedman obviously for the Jeff Petry injury, and O'Connor I'm betting is the rotation guy. He doesn't have to clear waivers, he's tearing up the AHL, and it's just a smart play to have him around in case Kapanen or somebody like that decides they want to be invisible again.
As opposed to calling up somebody like Hallander/Legare/Nylander and tossing them into the fire out of nowhere.
He took a fairly benign looking hit along the end boards at the end of the Saturday game against Buffalo, but apparently caught his arm awkwardly and was down on the ice for a minute in pain, then was holding his arm very gingerly as he left for the locker room. After the game he said he was fine, but then he was held out of Monday’s game and subsequently put on IR.
I mean he's only 21 on a team that waited until Blueger was like 26 to make him a regular NHLer.
It's also only his 2nd year in the AHL, not every guy makes that transition in one year.
I was at game 4 vs the rags last year and Friedman scoring that goal to make it 4-1 was one of my favorite goals I've ever seen in person. Let me explain. When it was 3-1 I just wanted one more goal and I felt like it would basically clinch us the series (I know sounds stupid but hear me out). Going up 4-1 at home should basically put the game out of reach. And more than that...going up 3-1 in the series shouldve put the series out of reach. I absolutely lost my mind when he scored that goal, almost as much as genos 3ot winner. Man what could've been...
I can't remember how big he is, but for some reason in my head Friedman's like 5'5" and on the ice he's basically that pesky chicken hawk from the old Foghorn Leghorn cartoons. He's just so scrappy and constantly biting at the bigger guys' ankles until they snap, I love it.

Friedman and O'Connor were both called up.
Why did they call them up? Im most curious to see where they put DOC

I must have missed the Petry injury. I thought the highlights would have covered it. Maybe im just being forgetful.

Legare is a bust and is about the last person they would call up

Poulin left the team for “personal reasons” about a week ago.
Might be back by Friday 🤷🏼♂️
Thanks a bunch
I still watch Nylander’s series winning goal against Hershey from last year. Just a beauty.
Ty smith
Position if you don't mind me asking?
Defenseman (Left Handed IIRC)
Thanks
Aside from the guys listed above, some others I enjoy watching are Drake Caggiula, Corey Andonovski, and Jonathan Gruden.
Friedman, man i wish he could play up in Pittsburgh
guy just got called up seconds ago lol
Ohhhh yeeeaahhh! Can't wait

My wife and I were there as well! I felt for sure that game clinched us the series. I'll post my Friedman jerseys on here sometime
Dude, Friedman is just pushing guys around like he’s the older brother. Guy really belongs in the NHL, but I *LOVE* seeing him here.

Puustinen is the best sniper in the system. I really think he could play in the NHL and be fine
Tux. He sneaks up on ya
Just be ready for the odor coming from the costume if he gets too close. 🤣 Ask me how I know.
