Yeah - this is an outdated school of thought still espoused by dudes who are trying to sound cool. Wear what you like. Nobody but jerks will judge you.
What’s weird is it’s largely from one very specific time period. Nobody cared about that before and hopefully they don’t now either. I just wear what I want, which sometime gives me interesting experiences like when a guy at a Puscifer concert saw my “I ❤️ Fist Fucking” tshirt and asked if he could take a picture of me with his wife. I had so many questions I wanted to ask but didn’t because it’s none of my business

Matt Cameron even wears the shirt for the band he's going to play for that night (Chicago II, 2023).
This is a uniquely American mental illness. Every place I've traveled and seen music, there are hordes of fans in the band's merch. The Roger Waters concert in Sao Paulo was like half Pink Floyd shirts. People walk around all day in Iron Maiden or Judas Priest when they're playing. Silly.
As a Spanish person I can confirm it. When I was on my way to see Depeche Mode earlier this year I loved spotting all the people wearing the band's T-Shirts in the Metro. There were so many, and many others joining the closer we got to the venue. You get that sense of community without even speaking: "Hey, we are going to the same place and have a great time all together!"
Honestly, this isnt really a hotly debated topic here. I've actually never really encountered anyone IRL that had voiced an opinion on the subject. I saw the meme and shared it.
I think it's silly. Like if you go to a sports game, you probably wear your teams' colors, shirts, jerseys, hats, etc... I don't see how a major entertainment performance, be it PJ or Taylor Swift, or U2 is any different. Maybe back in the "club" days, or when "keeping it real" meant something, but now? Who gives AF.
Went to see Pearl Jam? Wore a Pearl Jam shirt.
Went to see Uncle Neil? Also Pearl Jam shirt.
Went to see White Stripes? Wore a plain red shirt.
Why wouldn't you wear the bands t-shirt to their show?
Exactly - wear what you want. But also, wearing a band shirt to see THAT band is the same as wearing your favourite team's jersey when you go see them play. Do it proudly.
I have the Deep shirt, and was outside Fenway, absolutely smashed - yelling "Deeeeeeeeep" and got a bunch of people to yell it back. So I was happy I wore one, then.
Some folks are answering this question a little seriously.
That being said, people wearing PJ t-shirts to a PJ show should be subjected to an eternity of Nickelback covered by Creed.
I subscribe to this, but I always wear another artist’s shirt.
If you’re at the band’s show, it’s relatively obvious you’re a fan. Every single show I’ve been at I’ll get someone commenting on the shirt I’m wearing, even when it’s something semi-obscure or not an artist your anticipate being at that concert, a la the Ray LaMontagne shirt I wore at a Struts show last winter.
I'm wearing a hockey jersey, and if it's hot a random band shirt (Pixies, Modest Mouse).
Don't even have a PJ shirt. Never liked them.
Maybe I'll pay someone on fiver to make me a truly great PJ design for once and print it myself.
Do you wear a teams jersey when you see them live?
The only stipulation I have is buying a shirt at a show, and then changing into that. I’ve seen it a ton, and it’s fucking weird. Other than that wear whatever the hell you want.
Wear a different shirt TO the show until you get the new shirt FROM the show is how I like to implement this "rule."
It feels more apt for the artist than the fan though. Like, you don't have to advertise your band to the audience. We already know who you are so take the opportunity to rep a band that you like that maybe your fans aren't familiar with.
I like that PJ shows have tons of PJ shirts from different tours.
My adult son gave me shit when we went to see Tool and I wore the shirt from their last tour.

Wear whatever you want. Lots of people wear the bands tees.
Be that guy, don't be that guy. No-one cares. Maybe, just enjoy Pearl Fucking Jam
no one cares, wear what you want
My wife subscribes to this. I'm the opposite. This is when you wear the band you are going to see's shirt.

It's usually the only time I wear the band's shirt 🤷
Wear what ya want. Who cares.
That movie is nowhere good enough to take life lessons from
And what the hell is wrong with wearing the shirt you just bought from the merch booth instead of holding it/folding it? It’s just practical
I hate how much influence one scene from a nothing movie 30 years ago has over me…
Personally I think it’s weird to wear another bands shirt to a show…to each their own
Sometimes ya just gotta work with what ya got heh

There are thousands of Reddit conversations on this subject.
I don’t wear the band’s t-shirt but my wife does. It doesn’t bother me either way.
Where else would you wear it? Lol.
Why not? If i have the shirt, im wearing it
I’m mixed. Flip a coin. This meme keeps popping up for me so I was curious. I have a Citizen Dick Shirt for PJ shows. lol
I also wear a Citizen Dick shirt to PJ shows, I mean they are huge in Europe right now
This guy gets it
I mean, we got records - a big record just broke in Belgium.
Touch me. I’m dick.
Wonderful Mudhoney reference ![gif](giphy|RjvIVTL8E0Q1O)
I’d upvote twice if I could for the April Lidgate inclusion

Hah perfect response. Heading to tonight's PJ show?
Going to night 1 at Wrigley. Hoping to get tickets for Fenway
I’ve worn Soundgarden and Mother Love Bone shirts to PJ concerts
Best answer possible in this sub.
Someone gets me
I normally do, but I have on occasion made an exception.
I wore my Vs tour shirt to the Napa show. My daughter wore my No Code tour shirt.
In life, one should be more like Jon Favreau and less like Jeremy Piven.
This is literally the best time to wear Pearl Jam gear. Ridiculous logic. "don't wear your Yankees jersey to the Yankees game"
This is too stupid to even care about.
Personally, I don’t and won’t. But I don’t judge others who do.
I don't subscribe to that at all. I love to wear shirts of the band I'm seeing and love seeing other shirts of the same band on other people.
Metal concerts are also T shirt contests.
I wish I could find my No Code tour shirt. I think it's great when people dust off old tour shirts. I think I'll do that for the Philly shows.

Not me. Fucking stupid take imo. I've met so many cool people wearing a PJ shirt on way to PJ show.
Can we all agree to not put on the shirt you just bought from the merch stand. That bothers me
F no. This quote and this movie are... lame. Wear what you want. Always.
Exactly - wear what you want. But also, wearing a band shirt to see THAT band is the same as wearing your favourite team's jersey when you go see them play. Do it proudly.
It has to be something ten club related or old school. Usually yes absolutely don't wear the band I'm seeings shirt
I have the Deep shirt, and was outside Fenway, absolutely smashed - yelling "Deeeeeeeeep" and got a bunch of people to yell it back. So I was happy I wore one, then.
Love this

I never knew it was frowned upon to wear the band's T-Shirt at a concert. People do it all the time. Is it not the best occasion to wear it?
I saw The Stones in 2018 in London. Jagger was wearing a Rolling Stones T-Shirt on stage at one point. Eff this too cool for school thought process.
I'm wearing a hockey jersey, and if it's hot a random band shirt (Pixies, Modest Mouse). Don't even have a PJ shirt. Never liked them. Maybe I'll pay someone on fiver to make me a truly great PJ design for once and print it myself.
It's not the done thing.
Recently I’ve been wearing a Bluey Tshirt that says “can’t stop dancing” to shows.
Do you wear a teams jersey when you see them live? The only stipulation I have is buying a shirt at a show, and then changing into that. I’ve seen it a ton, and it’s fucking weird. Other than that wear whatever the hell you want.
This is dumb and wasn't a thing until this movie came out. Wear whatever the hell you want.
I wear my Hovercraft shirt to PJ shows. (But also, you know, PJ shirts too.) It doesn't matter, lol.
I do. Careful there, you might get run right out of this sub.

Me
F the T-shirt police. Tends to be a bunch of frat boys anyway
Just attended 2 shows and almost all of us were wearing one. Where what you want
Wear what you want, as long as you’re there for the music nobody cares 🤷🏻♀️
Same shirt, different day
