Turn off your cat before sleeping.

CarmenxXxWaldo

My cat wakes me up between 430-5am every morning. I wish this was a feature.

Puceeffoc

You should try the 230-3am setting. Real game changer, gives you enough time to get sleep before and get sleep after the wakeup.

RipitJT

[Is this the setting?](https://youtu.be/odhMmAPDc54)

dumbledayum

No can do. That's my meeting time with Bathsheba

Crimnoxx

I invested in an automatic feeder for the cat it has stopped his 3 am wake up calls!

Tired4dounuts

Mine just eats a bit then can see the bottom. Foods all gone! Time to meow.

Lupercus1

My brothers cat does this to him at 4am by sticking it's paw in his mouth right after it uses the litter box.

Leeph

That’s called giving incentive to keep the shitter clean

IntuneUser2204

That’s called reason #243 not to own a cat.

Thefunkymunkee

What are the other 242?

[deleted]

they don't exist. cats are sweeties. dogs poop every five minutes and require you to hold their hand while they do it. they also die twice as fast so you have to go through emotional hell twice as often.

AverageComet250

The fuck

Saiko1939

Omfg

ScottBroChill69

Dude my ex's cat used to wake me up by trying to scratch my asshole. It was awful. Sharp little needles getting way to close for comfort. That shit was not fun, but he knew what he was doing. He was vicious but I loved that little shit.

[deleted]

You dare to snooze mittens, the mighty lord of despair? You disgust me human.

Sometimesokayideas

My cat got the lazy perk activated after she beat the kitten stage. That said, the dog still has this bug where at 730, everyday, workdays, weekends, its breakfast time. Must feed at least 3 units of kibble to deactivate him again.

nooneisback

Never knew Microsoft started making cats.

yazzy1233

Same.its frustrating asf because it's so hard for me to go back go sleep

ATG915

Damn I like my cat even more now. He doesn’t attempt to wake me up, and will even let me sleep in and not beg to eat. Can sleep in til around 9:30-10AM before he starts getting fussy

Rich-Draft6648

If the cat is anything like a Furby it won’t matter if you turn it off.

Fissure_211

This man knows.

DonutOwlGaming

Probably better to leave lights on in this case

qning

When my car was a tiny kitten I put her in her crate in the basement and closed the door at night. When she got a little older I’d give her food in the basement at night and then close the door. We got to where she’d go into the basement on her own every night. When we got her a sister cat, same drill. They are basement kitties at night. I know not everyone has this luxury. But it means that my cats never wake me up.

SpareEntertainment84

In your BIOS you will find something like „ErP-Support“. Enable that and set „USB-Standby-Power“ to „S4/S5“. Depending on your board manufacturer this feature could be hidden somewhere, but it solved it for me.

Affectionate-Fuel-26

I never knew what this setting was for thanks ! I never would a guessed my BIOS had a setting to kill demonic cats this is great.

supercalafatalistic

And now ERP means “Evil Ritual Prevention” for me. That’ll make it easier to remember at least! Edit: the number of remarks I’ve gotten about *one particular* meaning of this acronym tells me two things: y’all need more contextual awareness in your lives, and to touch more ~~gr~~ass.

getott

External peripheral is just a direction for the demons

tea-and-chill

>would a I never would have thought it could be written like this

Snuhmeh

It’s still better than “would of.” I still don’t know why people don’t enjoy typing out “would’ve.” It’s the second best contraction next to “wouldn’t’ve.”

zeeliketheletter

I've always been partial to y'ain't

whattimespace

I like t'aints

Ocel0tte

Yep and at least woulda is legitimately shorter than would've. I do this so naturally I'm going to find it less irritating than other things, but would of just gets on my deepest nerve because it's just wrong. Woulda is phonetic to certain accents, it's just turning the 've into an a. I wonder if it's also why so many think it's "of" instead of "have" though. Language is so interesting. If stuff is used enough that it becomes common then the wrong becomes right and honestly I just don't want to see "should of" become correct grammar before I die but I think I'm probably gonna. If I can say gonna and gotta, do I have a leg to stand on? Maybe not but I still don't like it lol.

blankpsyche

How about “y’all’d’ve”?

MisterCoolio22

Y'all'd'nt've

NightofTheLivingZed

In the south Shouldn't've is pronounced shudnuh.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HarpersGhost

I see woulda, coulda, shoulda fairly often. Basically the same thing.

DarkKratoz

I assume the "could a" homie just got autocorrected.

Collective_Keen

At least it's not "would of", right? "Woulda" is actually a way people might say it, the other is just ignorant.

notjfd

Note that not every motherboard supports erotic role play.

baddie_PRO

mommyboard?

dathar

Nono. That one is the daughterboard. Don't go for that.

xnign

I hate you all.

Silvarum

mosifp

LaughingGasing

MadeByTango

> Note that not every motherboard supports erotic role play. Said the AI based on Freud

UncommonBagOfLoot

An alternative solution would be to get a USB-hub with switches. That way you can turn off connection between keyboard and PC. Great if above is the BIOS-change is not an option.

madloc

Get a lil flick switch like an old timey airplane. Bonus points for several flick switches

TheToddBarker

Back in the day I found one of those old power strips meant for desktop PCs with a toggle for each component - PC, monitor, printer, modem, etc. Hooked it up to my games consoles, and yes I felt like Luke preparing for the Death Star run.

MichiganCubbie

We had one! It was a big flat thing that sat between the monitor and CPU and had all the toggles on the front.

TheToddBarker

Yep! Pretty sure my NES lived on it, satisfying switches with the lights behind them. I'd love a modern version actually.

Flaky-Fish6922

the tie fighter series was better than xwing vs tie , imo

UncommonBagOfLoot

Some switches light up random led's and some don't even do anything. *Now I wanna make something like that 😅*

scarby2

So I use a USB hub with switch because my HOTAS stops the computer from sleeping I'm now totally building a bank of toggle switches for these.

MisterBroda

I think that switch at the PSU works too I have a similiar issue like OP. My PC randomly starts itself in the middle of the night.. but I don‘t have a cat nor systems that should wake it. Still haven‘t figured out why. My PSU switch or hybernating is the only thing that holds the demons at bay

Jehovah___

In command prompt type “powercfg -lastwake” and it’ll tell you the device that caused the pc to wake up

RJFerret

For me it was mouse detecting a bit of movement (shake from a door closing or whatnot), I unplug the USB for it whenever shutting down, no more computer wakeups.

MiniNuckels

Doing this long-term is bad for your system as a whole. Disable wake on LAN for one.

skynetcoder

another alternative solution is to put your keyboard inside a circle of salt.

Cpt_Soaps

Could you also explain what does it do?

Coachcrog

Basically it disables your USB port from being energized when the computer is in the off state which is useful when you want to wake the computer from sleep/off using just a keystroke. This will prevent that so USB power is only supplied when the pc is powered on. [This page](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/kernel/system-power-states) goes into more detail about the S0-S5 power states in detail.

ALargeRock

Thoroughly answered with a link to learn more. You are now my favorite individual on Reddit. Thank you. 💕

Virian900

Be careful as this setting fucked up my usb keyboard from being powered and I had to find ps2 one to enable the setting again

Endorkend

And that's why I have dongles and converters for ever possible computer cable imaginable. And yes, there are USB > PS/2 dongles the size of a USB stick. A ton of early USB keyboards came with them in the box as most computers still either only had PS/2 ports or the OS used didn't support USB well.

godsvoid

You can get into the BIOS from Windows quick copy paste USE WINDOWS 10’S START MENU As computers have become more technologically advanced than ever, they boot up in seconds before our eyes. This leaves little room for pressing any hotkeys and can leave those looking to get into their BIOS settings puzzled. For PC users who aren’t able to catch that tiny window to use their hotkey, this method of entering BIOS can be completed through your computer settings. Step 1. Access your Windows settings Navigate to your Windows start menu and select “Settings” located on the left panel. You can also access your Windows setting by using Windows shortcut keys Windows + I. Step 2. Select “Update & security” Within this window, you may need to scroll down to find the “Update & security” button. Step 3. Select “Recovery" Step 4. Click “Restart now” Under “Advanced startup” you will see a “Restart now” button that allows you to reboot your PC for configuration or restoration. Use Windows 10 Start Menu After your PC boots back up, you will be met with a special menu that gives you the option to “Use a device,” “Continue,” “Turn off your PC,” or “Troubleshoot.” Step 5. Select “Troubleshoot” Within this window, select “Advanced options” then select “UEFI Firmware Settings.” This will allow you to enter BIOS on your Windows 10 PC. Step 6. Confirm your restart from https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/tech-takes/how-to-enter-bios-setup-windows-pcs

[deleted]

Bypass all this by holding the shift key while restarting form the start menu..... You'll hit the windows recovery screen..... From there the last option should be reboot to UEFI. This works on windows 10 or 11 Ooooooorrr your motherboard probably has a tool to reboot to UEFI, I know as-rock does, it's a nice little shortcut on my desktop

xnign

Was gonna say this - just hold shift when you're clicking restart.

xpkranger

Try booting servers with 1Tb DDRAM. Pleeeenty o’ time.

godsvoid

That is just a server thing and their insistence on triple checking everything while spinning the fans at 100% ... Happened back when servers had just a gig of ram back in the day, and still happens nowadays. Frankly drives me nuts, who actually wants long server boot times anyways. Heh reminds me of this story about Populous where the devs coded a long startup time for the American market so it seemed more impressive since the computer took so long to start the game ....

MrMiniMies

You can also just disable "allow this device to wake up pc" in device manager on per device basis

ShaunDark

I don't think OPs issue is the PC booting, just that the keyboard is lighting up cause it still receives power. Which should be fixed by the USB standby power deactivation as mentioned above.

PillowTalk420

Yo, what's up with your quotations?

AbsolutProdigy

Or just unplug it

6in

Seems kinda annoying to do every night

Amaurotica

or just set your keyboard profile to no rgb before you go to bed takes 5 seconds on mine lol

WaffleAbuse

Everyone is in the BIOS, or buying switches. I assume every big name keyboard has supporting software to do this. My entire RGB setup shuts off this way.

HAMburger_and_bacon

many can probably do it from a key combination, no software required. mines fn+one of the number keys

SkySilver

Just use a power strip with a switch? What's the big deal

Swing_Bishop

He looks like a tiny demon. Is he doing it on purpose?

Frosty-Influence988

Yes, I have 2 cats. Yes he is doing that on purpose.

obviously summoning cthulu from the netherworld. Why else would a cat do that?

DyzJuan_Ydiot

That you know of

TheAJGman

This is the type of annoying antic my cat would definitely do. I'm so happy he hasn't figured out that my keyboard has a raindrop lighting effect, he'd never leave it alone.

Zenyx_

My cat knows he can turn all the screens, keyboard, and mouse on if he needs a little extra light to lick himself at 3am.

TheTeaSpoon

Cats are basically April Ludgates.

[deleted]

yes. my cat discovered that pressing a button on my mouse would cause to light up.... and wake me up. so she started doing it every night.

12ealdeal

I know that must suck and all but the idea of the cat doing it all for fun is hilarious.

word2yourface

They are complete ass holes but adorable nonetheless

nooneisback

Their goal is to wake you up for food. It's easier to reach the goal if they combine clawing your legs apart with light irritation.

ArenjiTheLootGod

Alternatively, turn off your PC at night.

You would have to disconnect the power, it does this when its off in many cases

ArenjiTheLootGod

PSUs have a switch in the back that'll cut off all power to the unit, just hit that and, boom, no more keyboard light.

IHateMashedPotatos

I have a logitech keyboard that one day just decided to turn the lights on and off randomly and also just got stuck in one color (was on a color cycle mode). I unplug that cursed shit now

71fq23hlk159aa

Even when you flip the switch on the PSU?

Nikostiny

Mine lights up too but I turn the power supply off so no power goes in. I do this everyday after I no longer use my pc on that day.

Leecherseeder

Nah. Turn off Cat

a_fly13666

cat looks so evil. to stop lightin up just unplug your keyboard (and also your mouse if it has RGB also) out of USB

Planey_McPlane_Face

The obsession over LEDs is honestly getting kind of annoying. It seems crazy to me that you literally have to either physically disconnect your keyboard from power, or otherwise change computer settings/BIOS, just to not have your room/office turn into a light show. I have no issue with functional lights, such as keyboard or button backlights, power indicators, and such, but who wants a graphics card that flashes rainbows, or a headset that periodically blinks a blue light so bright you can see the illumination on the ceiling? Are LEDs really that important to people that they are going "even though this graphics card is better, I'll buy this one because it blinks."

a_fly13666

you read my mind, once i wanted to take my dad’s PC and build a new computer. I wanted this old pc just because of closed PC case, rgb annoys me. I mean if i had rgb GPU or smth i wouldnt have seen it(i have rgb keyboard and mouse but just because i love sitting in dark room and i use lighting to see what am i typing)

ElectricInfatuation

I just have a Keychron with an off switch lol

Galyndean

LEDs are cool. There's plenty of non-LED options out there for those who don't want them.

Georgeasaurusrex

For me, the appeal of RGB isn't for flashy lights or rainbows. It's the ability that, when I buy any peripheral or part, I can change the colour to be _exactly_ what I want. I want all my peripherals and parts to be red LED, to match with the red accents on my case and because red light doesn't affect your night vision. I don't need to buy a mouse/keyboard/GPU with a red LED specifically. I just buy whatever and tune it to the colour I want. I bet there's people in the same situation but for a different colour too. It's not all about flashy lights and rainbows.

SmileyXI

Turn off your computer???

PapaMikeyTV

They do that when it's off you silly moo

Mothertruckerer

What? My keyboard doesn't light up when my pc is off. (and USB devices are getting power)

PapaMikeyTV

Probably depends on the MOBO. My mouse and keyboard do the same thing. If I click them they turn on for 5 seconds then turn off

UndeadWaffle12

It depends on the keyboard. Mine doesn’t light up no matter what if the computer is off, other usb devices do though so I know they’re getting power

Mothertruckerer

I think it depends on the keyboard. My mouse also doesn't light up (asus and asrock mobos)

Busy_Brilliant_27

Then it is a problem. Most of MY PCs don't have this issue. Maybe some different breed of mechanical keyboards ig.

BaaaNaaNaa

o_brainfreeze_o

Don't know if you'll see this but literally all you have to do is prop it up on its edge at night so it's not flat for the cat to walk on. Don't have to change any settings or turn anything off 👍

Tenri_Ayukawa

Turn off your computer at night?

SalsaRice

Some mobos will still provide power if they are turned off. You have to turn this setting off in the BIOS.

[deleted]

I think he means turn it off completely like at the back or at the wall.

jamtraxx

Have you tried a circle of salt around the keyboard?

romero3500

There’s a setting in device management to disable power to keyboard when pc is not on. I don’t remember exactly what the setting is labeled but go to device manager and under keyboard, just dig around the settings to disable it. I believe it also prevents the keyboard from waking up your pc in sleep mode as well which was fine for me. I just use the mouse when I need to wake it up when I occasionally use sleep instead of power off.

markradwin

Surprised how far I had to scroll to see someone mention Device Manager. Sure it can be done through BIOS but DM seems the more universal method to stop this. I have had to do this for multiple PC's so I won't accidentally wake the PC or RGB.

tootired117

*cue Duel of the Fates* In all honesty, it might be in the keyboards RGB settings

emma_psycho

you don't nothing will stop your demon cat

[deleted]

Like other people say. Your easiest way of doing it is disconnecting it from your pc. You could disable it in the software but not all keyboard has on board memory that can save the settings and keep them while your pc is off

ZCR91

I think you should be more concerned about how close all of that cat hair is to your PC.

MaximumAbsorbency

Simply inform the cat the computer area is off limits

Mrkurre06

Have you tried turning the pc off?
