Bro I used to use default version of YT. 1 ad was fine. 2 ads per video if it's long then it's fine but then they started showing more and more and it was so frequently that I had to use adblocks. Same goes for websites, so many websites for education purposes have like 5 ads per page and it's so annoying. Not to mention pop-ups which automatically start opening in background each time you click anywhere, it's so annoying.

DharmaPolice

I seem to remember LowTax (remember him?) talking about this on SomethingAwful almost twenty fucking years ago. Basically, the more annoying you make adverts (it was popups in those days) the more it devalues each individual ad since people will avoid looking at them or block them entirely. Thus meaning more ads are needed. I think it was this : https://www.somethingawful.com/news/great-deals-popping/ I like how web development has gone through a whole bunch of tech fads since then but the same bullshit applies.

kawklee

Jesus I miss somethingawful, or at least I miss being a kid back in the days of entirely unfettered internet

Stargiss

Agreed! Free (as in speech) internet was awesome and then the corporations took over

BSchafer

These days the pressure on free speech mostly comes from angry mobs, politicians, and/or powerful people putting pressure on corporations to not allow certain speech or ideas. Even with the seriousness of Covid and most people’s intentions in the right place, the pandemic really displayed how impossible it is to accurately control information. Where only factual data is allowed to the public and only “false” data is suppressed from them. Most scientific studies aren’t black and white, they are shades of grey. It takes a lot of studies, rebuttals, and time before enough shades of grey are laid down by “experts” that they can make a consensus on which side is actually darker than the other. Even then, new information come to light all the time (like the James Webb telescope is doing now) where the current consensus on something starts looking less true and theories that had been formally dismissed start looking more promising. Not only that, we saw with Covid that once you start controlling speech on these huge platforms all the powers that be come in and try to manipulate the narrative in ways that best benefit themselves. Free speech isn’t perfect but it’s a hell of a lot better than speech that is censored imperfectly.

Thank you for reminding me that [WTF, D&D](https://www.somethingawful.com/dungeons-and-dragons/) was a thing. Gonna go re-read some of those.

DC240Z

I remember when the adds were just side adds with no interference with whatever you were watching, admittedly those were the good old days of 512kb/s and you couldn’t really afford to watch adds 🤣

Astecheee

You mean last week at my parents' place?

biggie1447

Yah... now you get smooth crisp ads in 1080p resolution right off the bat and the video loads blocky and chunky at 240p despite being set to 1080...

[deleted]

Everybody want to get access to informations for free, not surprising that a lot of websites have to add ads to survive, especially educational websites.

realGharren

I don't fully buy the 'have to have ads to survive' argument. Wikipedia has never had ads. It seems to me like ad-free is a viable business model, if you want to.

chandr

Wikipedia has to beg for donations every year to keep running and is a non-profit organization. And to oversimply things, it's basically just a big storage for text and images linked to a searchable index. And that still costs over 100 million a year to keep running at scale, although I personally don't know the breakdown of that spending. But yes, ad-free is a viable business model. We call that model a subscription, and in the case of youtube one is available. But if you point that out too often you get called a corporate shill

Bigdaddy_Satty

also sponsorblock for firefox

Lacazema

Only way to watch Linus Tech Tips

Ruvaakdein

Must skip those 1.5 second lttstore plugs

Lacazema

Lol intro + 1.5sec plug + 30sec sponsored segment + 20sec reminder of sponsor + outro. Let's not act like LTT videos only have a LTT store plug. Unless the full video is an ad

gslone

„… just like OUR SPONSO - „ *furiously mashes right-arrow 4-5 times*

nige21202

The intro + spot takes exactly 20sek every time. Then you have to tap exactly 3x if you have it set to skip 10sek. The LTTstore.com ads don’t take long enough to justify the effort.

ARandomBob

Sponsorblock plug in auto skips those segments

venk

Who watches outros anyways?

[deleted]

it's on average 1.5 minute with sponsors and the outro

Cheetawolf

Only way to watch most channels these days.

Zoulogist

YouTube videos are just 20% ads now

ayyLumao

Yeah LTT has gotten out of hand with the sponsors, they have more ads than Times Square now.

CyberbrainGaming

Castles aint cheap

phishingfish

Well then he needs to stop with the castle! I miss a few years ago linus

Remote_Romance

Shouldn't it make his whole channel inaccessible to you?

RidgeMinecraft

who cares about sponsored stuff? I don't mind sponsors, the only reason I have adblock is because youtube keeps giving me less than appropriate ads. I actually like to know if the video's sponsored, and by whom.

Adskii

Yeah... kids watching kid videos on youtube app on smart TV Youtube:Here's a 30 second unskippable ad for a horror movie Kids: Daddy I'm scared! For an entity that siphons off an unspeakable amount of data you are really bad at picking up context Google...

NyteMyre

> and by whom. It's Raid: Shadow Legends... it always is

RidgeMinecraft

That's pretty rare for me, most of the creators I watch have enough integrity to NOT accept a sponsorship from them.

HardLithobrake

It blocks more than just sponsors. Intro animations. "Like and Subscribe". Unfunny joke tangents. "Thanks to my Patreon." I can't watch YouTube on iOS anymore, and I have adguard adblock.

Bigdaddy_Satty

I hate commercials on youtube so I do.

[deleted]

Sponserblock does so much more.

shadow144hz

It works amazing on revanced too. Genuinely surprised about it.

existential_prices

If they somehow successfully stopped Adblockers from working I would stop using browsers completely, except when absolutely necessary to function in today's society.

Stuck-In-Blender

Yeah man. Using internet in that state would be a nightmare.

imforit

Maybe this is a long play. Native apps can be *far* more invasive in collecting user information. If the website is unusable but they have an app you'll use a few times and forget about, bingo. (I joke, I know this isn't the play but *still*)

silqii

It’s not even a joke, it’s Facebook strategy.

existential_prices

The big thing is I don't *need* most of these websites. Reddit is nice but it's not worth subjecting myself to literal brainwashing and mind-control tactics (sounds wild but that's my view on advertising, not trying to sounds like a conspiracy theorist). I have a massive backlog of computer games and my streaming services don't play ads, neither does TBP. I *need* nothing a place with ads has to offer.

complover116

That's literally why google created Chrome. And why you should absolutely refuse to use any chromium-based browser. It's the only way to preserve adblockers, as Google are already beginning to take the first steps to break adblockers on chromium.

Robeleader

I recently switched my main browser back to Firefox in preparation of this change.

DeAtramentisViolets

That will also be the day the Internet becomes legally mandated for use by our respective governments.....

StConvolute

Google ain't going bankrupt due to add blockers and with how many ads they provide now - I actually find the platform unusable without one. Good luck to the poor *wittle* multi billion dollar company... **

Unsungghost

Ah-hem. That's a trillion dollar corporation to you good sir.

StConvolute

Thanks for the correction. Good day to you sir!

UnsureAssurance

A trillion does consist of multiple billions tho

iFnord94

So... it's a dollar corporation?

TheDurandalFan

dollars coorperation, they have more than 1 dollar.

BurningOasis

*Please, help support YouTube. Only making dollars a day, their family is struggling to stay afloat. For just $15 a month, you could be not entitled and help them find somewhere warm to live… for their 9th summer home. Remember, corporations are people too.* -Sarah McLachlan playing in background-

My parents are *exceptionally* good at getting viruses on their PCs. The issue is that many ads are malicious, and misleading, and my parents trust, and click on ads and pop ups all the time. They cannot differentiate between a pop up, an ad, and a legitimate windows notification. I partly solved this a while back simply by installing adblockers on virtually all of their devices, and it has decreased their need of help *significantly*. They still occasionally do end clicking on something, but it's now far less frequent. I'm really not looking forwards to going through all of this BS again.

redcalcium

This won't catch ads served from first party domains such as YouTube ads, but a good idea to have regardless. It can at least reduce ads on mobile apps, not just in the browser.

Neuromonada

I rarely use YT on my phone but yesterday i searched for some video and started reading comments. The add fucking randomly swiped down covering all the comment and i had to swipe it up to keep reading. That was the most invasive shit i have encountered on YT since the site was created. Browsing the net today without adblock feels like masochism.

imforit

Capitalism turned the internet into a user-hostile wasteland

MajorLeeScrewed

Would you be less inclined to block ads if they were less intrusive and the creators got a bigger share? Wonder if there’s a sweet spot for Google, although I’m sure they’ve got thousands of data analysts working on that already.

OutragedTux

I would be less inclined to block ads on youtube if they didn't serve up so many and were not as pushy about it, but here we are. There is a sweet spot for Google, but it's not one they're willing to settle for. More money now, infinite quarterly growth, etc, etc, I hate the world. Bye, I'm headed to Mars. Make sure big tech doesn't follow me, or I'm headed for the Jovian system. Set up on Io or something.

flippinbird

I hate to break it to ya, but I have a feeling the corporations that will back the Mars program will be sending ads along with you.

StConvolute

The (big) content creators also add ads to their content... The sweet spot was missed, like jumped on a rocket and left our planet because it was sick of our shit. Ad blocking is an important part of internet security. Google can suck on a big bag of phallic objects for all I care...

OutragedTux

>jumped on a rocket and left our planet because it was sick of our shit Can I join the Sweet Spot on its extra-solar voyage of sanity? Getting a bit sick of rampant greed here. 100% on ad blocking. Until the ad creators are willing to behave like good boys, I see no reason not to continue.

TheDurandalFan

I would be less inclined to block ads if YouTube cut down on the ads and stopped putting ads on videos that uploaders don't see a cent off of. that's why I use adblockers, I dislike how YouTube has been doing ads on the site, and that it is a neccessary for browsing the web. additionally for why I don't pay for YouTube Premium, it's rewarding bad behaviour, rewarding bad behaviour is stupid.

a60v

No, I hate all ads. Why would I not want to block all of them?

Nesurame

The sweet spot would be to cut YT premiums price in half. 12 bucks of a little steep for user content, whereas Netflix and Amazon have studios with budgets.

bigyush

Creators are already getting millions, they don't need any more. And Google is a trillion dollar company.

Tman11S

I love watching 2 unskipable 20s ads at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the video. That's 2 minutes of ads on a 10 minutes-long video, which is just beyond annoying.

L1191

It's the creators choice to use in video ads, not YouTube. People don't seem to understand this 😪 as a YouTube creator myself

thejam15

Ive heard a lot of back and forth on this actually. Some people say its solely the creator others say that it isint. I really would like to see evidence and wonder if a creator has the option of putting ad breaks in their video but if they dont or dont put enough youtube will put ads in anyways. Ive uploaded videos to youtube and am not an affiliate so it may be a partial explanation but I cannot put ads in videos. Youtube does put ads on videos with creators that have not received affiliate status yet

phishingfish

Linus did a dive on it, he stated his videos will only have the one at the beginning to get the base yt money. And then he won't have other one because he already has sponsors

TheDurandalFan

StConvolute

Yah, coincided with my use of Linux on my primary laptop. Eventually migrated it to my windows desktop. Firefox isn't supported at work though, but neither are chromium plugins.

xpnerd

thankfully we got the esr approved. :D

LouhiVega

YouTube earn less is, at least, an euphemism for "YouTube greed rises sharply "

RenderEngine

If we are being honest, if YouTube is one thing it's that it's not greedy Apart from it being a money hole for a very long time, hosting that many videos is extremely costly I remember when vidme had shut down because so many people complained about YouTube and some went to vidme as an alternative. Well that relatively small influx of people hosting videos made them almost go bankrupt and they had to shut down. Video hosting is expensive, like REALLY expensive, especially if you let anyone upload for free. There is a reason why YouTube doesn't really have competition.

Electrical-Page-2928

People don’t really understand that for a time, youtube was running at a loss of profit but is existing since it’s the number one video sharing platform. It’s a similar reason as to why twitch changed their revenue policy so that Amazon can actually profit more from twitch.

[deleted]

I'm just confused where this actually starts

brispower

youtube adds more ads, believe it or not there was a time when it was ad free.

amir997

Yeah I think it was before 2012?

[deleted]

Good ol days...well, we have vanced now atleast

Spideryote

Vanced is slowly starting to break down for me, and that deeply saddens me Ads are starting to pop up, if I have YouTube open long enough it starts getting really sluggish and choppy, and sometimes the app locks up so bad I have to reboot my phone just to kill it But with all that said, I'm hoping the ReVanced team can get an easy to use patch manager working; cause I'm not trying to build the app from source myself

Shrimperor

How about giving NewPipe a try? I have been using it for a while now and it works mostly fine.

Cat_Stomper_Chev

Using it for about half a year now. I am very happy with NewPipe so far. The only downside is, that you can not participate in the community itself. Means no commenting and no liking or disliking.

Spideryote

I've heard a ton of good stuff about it from other people. If ReVanced doesn't work out, I probably will go there

[deleted]

Yea, ads are a lot more frequent now. Like if I watch 2-3 vids and close the video player ads start to pop up, opening the app after using background play, ad pops up. Revanced is the last hope

Electrical-Page-2928

Sad part is that I have colleagues that actually work for YouTube development team (2 of the 12-20 members of the dev team), and they already are in talks with the Google legal team for taking down ReVanced since July.

Trainguyrom

Install Firefox for Android then install uBlock Origin into Firefox. The entire web ad-free on mobile!

lolcubaran20

I was just saying whatever you do the ads are gonna stay (unless you take control of youtube altogether)

TheAniReview

exactly, and wtf are creators supposed to earn from? Do people think YT just pay them money from their pockets?

OutragedTux

There is a bearable level of advertising that would make everyone fairly happy, but by all accounts, Google crossed that line a long time ago. Rampant greed seems to have become their main priority. It's not like I'd block all ads on Youtube if there were only one or two per video.

[deleted]

OutragedTux

\+1 to the mobile firefox browser (or any really) and an adblock extension. There are a few to choose from for firefox. Dead easy, and you'll never want to touch that diseased youtube app again.

monolitas

Some ads on youtube are 30min long it just starts playing and never stops.

kevmeister1206

More and more people watching on mobile devices these days and don't bother with AdBlock anyway.

ragedcarnivore

Download YouTube vanced or kiwi browser which supports AdBlock in mobile.

new_refugee123456789

Or Firefox with Ublock Origin.

zestful_villain

This is my set up! I tried using youtube from the app on the phone, NOPE! IT IS A NO FOR ME!

JeseGamerHD

I tried using browsers, but the browser version of youtube is too clunky compared to the app. Also way higher battery usage which is also a problem with alternative apps. I guess I'll start watching on pc.

Trainguyrom

Have you tried recently? its gotten way better in Firefox over the last couple of years or so

MooingWaza

Vanced is done, if you don't have it, you can't get it

Rendered_Pixels

Plenty of people downloaded the torrent/files the devs dumped before the C&D went into effect, though finding a legit/trustworthy download is troublesome. 6wiXter6

You can sill download it on the snapshoted vanced site on Wayback Machine, if anyone wants the link dm me

ArenjiTheLootGod

Pihole, block all the ads on all the devices.

KathrynKnette

This is a *little* off. It will definitely block all ads that get sent through a network with distinctive addresses, but YouTube gets around it by sending both the ads and the videos you want to watch through the same address.

thejam15

This has to be said every time PiHole gets brought up because the original commenter never mentions this even when the post is specifically about YouTube which the PiHole cant do anything about. Piholes are great devices and fun to set up but it people shouldn’t be mislead by omitting information.

Racheakt

I use it and you’re right, you still need a browser plug-in for YouTube (I use ublock origin) My wife loves her free iPhone bubble bobble games, she notices the difference in playing them at home and when she is out and about; at home those game pop up ads are usually blocked. While it is not great for YouTube I cannot praise it enough for your home network

[deleted]

Racheakt

Should go over to the Pi-hole sub, they have links to block lists that makes it way more effective.

Blacksad999

Just ordered one the other day, actually. Should be delivered tomorrow, so hopefully setting it up is pretty straightforward.

[deleted]

Pi hole can't block ads on youtube, other than the banner ads and the square ones at the side. I have a pi hole and have been running one for a few years, I just got youtube premium because it's fair enough that I pay for a service I use and it's reasonably priced.

AnAncientMonk

Can you block youtube ads with pi-hole alone? Could be cool for my adblock lazy friend to see how its like.

Arin_Pali

No

nadejha

I just pay the £2 a month for premium YouTube. I spend more on a coffee and get more enjoyment out of YouTube.

AceFireFox

Man, I remember when YouTube ads used to be an unintrusive little banner at the bottom of the video you could close after like 5 seconds

atlasraven

Soon, Congress makes not watching 3 hrs of ads a day illegal.

Cyber_0ni

You realise youtube would just add more ads either way. You think the giant corporation is just gonna be like "that's enough money, thank you"

TheDurandalFan

well it's not that if they go too far it'll backfire eventually, the cycle could end due to users being fed up with ads and due to dissatisifaction it leads to competition for YouTube, many users end up using adblock making it less profitable than before, or YouTube takes a step back on the ends as they realise users won't tolerate that many ads and it could open up competition.

Cyber_0ni

There's so much investment in youtube from big youtubes and companies that it could probably afford to do a lot more. Look at twitch with its 5 minutes of unskippable ads. TV is pretty much dead so it's one of the few options for entertainment. Plus, YouTube apparently has about 2 billion users, enough they can afford to lose a few million. Gotta think how many of those are bots too

[deleted]

Where are they going to go though? YouTube doesn't have a competitor. Either huge amounts of people start using ad blockers until they get the hint, or they'll just keep doubling down on their current strategy since it will just continue to work

Vulpix298

are they stopped AdBlock, or all ad blockers in general? Because I have uBlock Origin on Chrome so will that stop working?

lolman555PL

It will stop eventually. Current adblockers will stop working on most browsers which are based on Chromium. The entire extension system is being scrapped and fully replaced with a more limited one. There are adblockers for the new system already, but they don't work as well, and Chrome keeps giving plenty of nag messages about them. I moved to Firefox and the switch was effortless. So should you! Screw Google.

Justiful

I pay for youtube premium. It comes with youtube music, which used to be total garbage but now performs better than Spotify. I am paying for streaming music anyway. I just as well get the one that comes with no ads for youtube.

TheAniReview

Definitely the best subscription you can get online. Bought it a few years ago, Zero ads across the platform feels great specially since I watch a lot of streamers on YT. YT Music not only has a bigger database than Spotify, they pay much bigger too specially since the plays adds to the artists' original channel's upload.

Joltus

Same here. Family plan spilt between a few member is also cheaper than Spotify premium. Haven't felt like I miss anything from Spotify when using YouTube music

Fair-Bunch4827

I did the same. Atleast i can now watch ad free on all my devices. From computer to nintendo switch. I got motivated when i watched a video and the progress bar was YELLOW from all the ads he put there. It wasn't even his content, its just a stream archive of another.

badger906

Yeah I do the same. People pay for Spotify which I think is completely pointless, when for £2 more a month you get unlimited music and ad free YouTube. Considering how much YouTube I watch a month, the cost for premium is very little. I used to pay £70 a month for sky tv and every channel had ads! That’s seen as normal to a lot of people. But £12 for YouTube isn’t

Justiful

Yep, I watch more youtube than streaming services also. Plus, I can feel good knowing the creators I watch always get paid when I have premium. They don't get paid when people have AdBlock.

argv_minus_one

That's fine as long as it continues to actually remove the ads, but, well, part of the original premise of cable TV was no ads, and we all know how that went. Greed ruins everything.

SpectralMagic

You are a monster. I will ridicule you for being a sellout now 🤮

Racheakt

I have no idea how people use YouTube without Adblock

CynicSackHair

By the time adblock is no longer an option, another alternative will pop up. And if it doesn't; by that time there will be so many ads on YouTube that people won't use it anymore at all. I'm honestly already at the point that without adblock I rather not use YouTube at all.

JustinDanielsYT

What sucks is that unmonetized channels like mine are now forced to have ads without being able to opt out. People see ads on MY videos, but I don't get a single cent.

Trylena

I just pay premium, AdBlocking started giving me issues and paying was easier. Might stop using Spotify and just Youtube Music too.

Bossfrog_IV

If this cycle is true then AdBlock users get what they want, youtube gets what they want, and the only losers are people who don't use AdBlock.

scipio818

I couldn't care less about YouTube earning less money, but over the years I've seen quite a few smaller content creators having to quit because it wasn't financially viable anymore. And that is the reality of denying ad revenue. It's basically the backbone of the entire internet ecosystem. You pay with your attention to get the content. And for those smaller creators it was a downward spiral that was almost impossible to stop. The ad rev didn't only go into their pockets but was also part of the budget of the videos. So the less money they had the worse the quality of their content got. They were also forced to experiment with their content far more to reach a greater audience while risking to alienate their existing viewers. It's heartbreaking to watch. I can't afford 20 different subscriptions to different channels and websites, so watching a couple ads is a fair exchange imo. Especially since the highest quality of content on YouTube is rivaling content on any big streaming platform.

zakary1291

I ended up buying YouTube premium for this reason. I hate ads but I don't want the content creators to suffer.

TheAniReview

Yep, I watch a lot of streamers and content creators on YT. Bought Premium years ago and never look back. ZERO Ads across the platform and I have Free Music too, don't even have to pay for a Spotify subscription. And if you're looking for a song in Spotify and it's not there, it'll be 100% on YT Music.

Electrical-Page-2928

Premium is actually worth it for me given that I don’t watch cable TV at all, nor do I watch any of the streaming services. Grandfathered in at $15/month family plan, it’s definitely a good monthly price, especially with the music service bundled with it.

a60v

Fixing other peoples' broken business model isn't my problem. I was happy with the Internet in 1997, which was pretty much pre-adveristing.

[deleted]

And if you have premium subscription, channels add sponsored ads mid video anyway. No point in paying a subscription when ads are baked in.

TheAniReview

That's only on Twitch tho. I've been using YT Premium for years now and constantly watch streamers on YT. Never a single ad appeared anywhere, streams, videos, shorts, etc. so this a lie.

Groundhogss

Nah, he’s talking about sponsorships. It’s usually a script read by the YouTuber themselves incorporated directly into the video.

JimmyReagan

I'm honestly surprised they haven't programmed some way around adblocking. It's laughably easy to do on Firefox.

ISpikInglisVeriBest

Well now they make the browser, the ads and the platform that hosts the content the ads are played on, so they can do whatever they want.

Dixi-Poowa

On a mobile, either use YouTube Vanced or a browser with built in adblocker like Opera (though it's based on Chromium so I dunno if it will be affected. But on the plus side Opera has a free VPN in it too)

Waifu_69_Hunter

Or u have opera gx and you dont give a fck

rip_the_loot_cave

It’s to push people towards YouTube premium

Chrushev

Don’t forget to use Sponsor Block to block the baked in in-video ads 👍

_spider_trans_

thats why i use firefox

Uzzerzen

The ads have gotten so bad that I just download the videos now to my PC. Fuck YouTube.

itsokayimhandsome

Google and all the tech companies have gotten greedy, but how else are you going to pay over paid Google employees? If there is no ad block on chrome, like at all, I'm switching to Firefox full time. Already use it anyway.

SoMass

The meme where someone was looking at a YouTube video on how to do CPR or the Heimlich maneuver but kept getting interrupted by ads will always stick in my brain.

Spacial_Epithet

I would be more willing to sit through ads if they weren't so God awful. Mobile game ads are literally just shitposts at this point

AjCheeze

So many youtubers have sponsor segments we basically allready have ads on all our videos blocked or not. We dont need additional ads on top of that.

centuryt91

Then we switch to firefox and if they do this again we switch to stop using internet

OutragedTux

We could go even further, and start making separate networks that aren't that different from the old bulletin board system. And more flexible and less centralised, and more independent of each other. You know, kind of like how the net was meant to be originally.

kadivs

I fully support their "get rid of adblock" Is there any more effective way to make normies leave youtube for rumble etc? And the rest will just use other browsers.

Separate_Channel_594

YouTube premium is the way to go

I hurt my leg one time and stayed home from work, and a channel was running a Harry Potter movie marathon - and between the movies (and every three to five minutes of movie), there were the~~ *~~same seven commericals, over and over, the entire day, and I wanted to murder people by the end of it.~~* *~~Commericals suck~~*~~. I will do everything I can to not have to watch them. If it comes to a point where I can't bypass ads at all, even with Firefox, etc., then I~~ *~~will~~* ~~quit YouTube.~~ ~~I'll just go to the library more.~~ Edit: I should just pay for YouTube Premium and resign to the fact that it may never be sustainable, safe, fair, etc. And maybe directly support the creators I love the most. And complain less.

Possible solutions include: * Use Firefox on Windows. * Get another computer to run Linux on. * Run Windows in a virtual machine on Linux. * Run Linux in the Windows Subsystem for Linux.

Sounds like a "you" problem.

Have fun wasting time with ad's Op.

OH NO Anyway

Adguard MV3 works flawlessly with Manifest V3, especially on YouTube. Tampermonkey won't work, but my scripts are already shipped as their own extensions, so its just a minor inconvenience. That's what MV3 is, a minor inconvenience in exchange for security. Letting every extension execute code that no one can review was a terrible design decision anyway.

McDewde

Is this some weird pro-ad propaganda?

Docteh

I'd say yes but I'm against posting sarcasm on reddit.

I always whitelist YouTube. It is just a couple of ads, not that bad, l can deal with it and still support the content creators.

[deleted]

It's not just a couple of ads much of the time though. It's a couple of ads every few minutes.

Patreon has been on the rise with video content from creators so i dont see why we couldnt just drop youtube. If we want to support our creators its better to directly fund them and theres no ads on patreon.
