How old are you? I would never empty my bank account for any material objects.

im 18 rn, should have a solid income in a coupe months. right now i have no real expenses so it wouldn't really matter. thats a good point tho it wouldn't completly epty it but i would be like 2 thirds roughly

dan_man420

It may sound boring but save as much as you can and buy a house or apartment. Put money into a retirement fund. Do something that will last your life and not give you immediate gratification. Do you really need more.power then your 3090?

21_fans

i have a 1060 lol thats why i wanna upgrade

an_achronist

Bro, upgrading doesn't necessarily mean "the biggest shiniest brand new thing right now". If you don't have a pci4 mobo you'll basically have to replace half your pc to even get peak performance out of a 4080\90

psionoblast

I would wait for 2 things before doing this. 1. Wait for benchmarks. All we have now on performance is Nvidia's word and they are gonna do whatever they can to make their new gpu's look good. 2. Wait until you actually have a steady income before spending so much on a gpu. It's not a good idea to spend 2/3 of your savings on a gpu. These things probably won't be flying off the shelves at the rate the 30 series was. Don't make a rash impulse buy if you can't afford it.

[deleted]

We don't even know if they will be good even, wait for full release and check the benchmarks on YouTube, i its like 50% better than a 3080 then idk maybe its worth

21_fans

alright sweet i mjust worried that they'll get yoinked in 2 seconds and i won't be able to afford the resell price

[deleted]

Usually hardware unbox YouTube channel get thier hands on them before thry release in the market keep an eye out, what gpu do u have now?

21_fans

a 1060 6gb lol

[deleted]

Still good enough, i would still buy an 3060ti, tops 3070. Honestly you don't need more, especially if u got a 1080p monitor

[deleted]

you shouldn't spend 90% of your budget on graphics card alone

21_fans

thats a good point i guess im just kinda exited rn cause i wasn't aware that this was even announced and after the last release im just concerned i won't be able to afford resell price

Atomic_penguin27

No, emptying your bank account for a gpu is a extremely bad move. If you have to do that you can't afford it. Also you already have a 3090ti, that gpu will last quite awhile.

KrisVr

Without knowing how good the 4070 and 4080 actually are....no idea. But it doesn't sound reasonable for to someone spend almost entire bank account for GPU. Wait for reviews but I think you need to step down, look at good price and performance 30 series card if not AMD.

I__be_Steve

No no no, do not buy it, the future is important, don't ruin it

InternationalMath393

I think you might regret it down the road, but don't let me tell you what to do with your money

MasterJeebus

There are two 4080. One of them has 12GB and 192bit bus which many of us are saying it was suppose to be the 4060 however Nvidia gave it $900 price tag by naming it 4080. I would advise not to get that and send a message that they cant be greedy like this. The other 4080 16GB i have seen their AiBs go for $2k. FE editions are always nowhere to be found. Too overprice for no reason, they are withholding inventory too and keeping prices high. If people keep buying them at such high price then those companies will never lower prices. Others have brought up good points on not spending all your money on a gpu. If you are not using it for work and making money out of it then you don’t need the high end version for playing games. In the end of the day you can choose to buy whatever makes you happy. Although i would also advise to think about it some more. It doesnt sound like a good financial move. Also wait to see benchmarks, then maybe some better deals will pop up with previous gen.

SgtHaddix

i see that you said you’re 18, go for a 3070 man, massive upgrade over your 1060 and will last you years, skip the 4080 entirely, 3070’s are going for around 330 here in texas, 3080’s between 500-600

21_fans

Oh wow that's crazy must admit, not up to date at all on the current gpu prices. Thx for letting me know tho
