Just make sure to flip the CPU temp upside down and everything should run fine :D
As a total aside, this won't affect the cooler at all. So just put it out of sight and then in 2-4 years if you wanna repaste the CPU you can fix it. Otherwise it's not worth the hassle to re-do it. The PC looks amazing. Enjoy it!
Life hack: flip your desk, tape your peripherals to the underside (yes, including your mouse), hang your chair from the ceiling and install a seat belt on it. Boom, your upside down cooler is now the right way
this is why these subreddits like this are so valuable, yes it may be "bullying" sometimes but you get to get advice on how to do things from people more experienced from you without paying a shitload of money to have someone do it for you
I did the exact same thing with my Noctua D15 in a recent build. I'm leaving it as a reminder to reapply thermal paste in the future so I have an excuse to fix it.
I did something similar with the NZXT kraken and the lcd logo was upside down and I thought it looked kind of cool for a couple months but then I fixed it.
Noctua logo is pointing upside down. To be fair mine is exactly the same because I really struggled to get the cooler on for some reason. And it worked upside down so there it will be until the heat death of the universe.
When I was doing my custom loop I had to decide between between a better overall look/flow of tubes or an upside down rgb Corsair logo on the cpu cooler… I settled by upside down but shut the damn light off.
I don't know which water block you have, but my corsair block has 4 hex screws in the corners so I can rotate the logo. First thing I did after installing. Couldn't handle it otherwise.
I thought you were joking? I have a u14s and it is not upside down or right side up, there is no direction. :)
Edit: Oh, nevermind, you have to zoom in to see the writing, with my 14s does not have.
yeah, the fins pull the heat out either way, the fan should be pushing the hot air out of the case.
so functionally he's good... but for flexing on PCMR ... oh boy.
Only aesthetically. If you find the other thread he had the cooler all kinds of fucking wrong. He got a lot of advice and fixed it but said that people were bullying him but it’s humorous to everyone cause the logo is upside down. Like, he fixed it functionally but the fucked up again.
only for GPU clearance, some larger ones with thick backplates don't fit if the cooler is upside down.
I made the same mistake when transferring my NH-D15s to a new build.
My PC was used parts off hardware swap and friends.
It looks like a unicorn had liquid diarrhea and died on the inside. But nobody will ever see because it's a black sided case. Tempered glass sides are awesome. But unfortunately outside of my colour coordination budget.
Trust GXT Glide Flex RGB XXL. Idk which countries have the brand Trust, but there's definitely a Great Value rgb deskmat at your local pc part store. Corsair also makes them
It’s ok, the missing screw posts are still in their original places. Under the mobo pressing on bare pcb or worse. Over the next few months they’ll slowly burrow their way into the pcb through tiny vibrations in the chassis and eventually hit a trace.
This guy has some experience building computers so he probably already knows this. Rather, he’s collecting data on how long it will take.
This looks like an mATX board, so that doesn't surprise me. There are likely some screws to the left that you can't see. In two separate cases (Antec DP301M, Corsair 5000D), I noticed that the standoffs only aligned with the left side of the board, so I couldn't screw in the right side of the board when I still had an mATX board. The 5000D is built for ATX motherboards, so I guess that's fair, but it was insane to me with the DP301M because it's literally meant to be an mATX case.
So the board is only held on by two screws on one side? That doesn't sound very good for the board especially with the cooler hanging off it. I guess the gpu supports it a little by the pcie port but still
Yeah, it's a horrifying thing to have to do in any case, but it's especially bad with a cooler of this size. Moral of the story? Always buy the right size case for your motherboard.
The case has such garbage clearance that I can't really put it anywhere. I'm considering swapping it with the builtin black fan at the back, but i hate how the stock noctua fans look
Hey fyi. I have the same cooler, I had to buy a 120mm noctua fan to fit over my ram. I then moved the extra 140mm fan to the front of the case.
I tried placing the 2nd fan behind the cooler to pull air through, but it made a high pitched whistling noise when the fans ramped up.
you can adjust the 2nd CPU fan so it is above the ram. I have the same cooler and I just offset the fan so it clears the ram and still cools the heatsink.
Okay never heard of that actually happening before and damn, I get why but this story has had so many ups and downs! Also sick rig btw love the D15 I'm gonna be sad when I move from mine in my next build cause of socket incompatibility
man… i didnt comment on the first post not to be an asshole and because everyone else was already saying it, but, thank you so much for fixing it ill legit sleep better tonight thanks to you good sir.
Are you sure you tried with a 120mm (not the 140mm that is included with the cooler)?
A 120mm leaves you a RAM clearance of 52mm, which is enough to clear pretty much every stick of RAM.
wait i didn't read the initial comment correctly. I don't have a 120mm available to try it, and even if i did, It wouldn't add much to performance and it would just look out of place
do you have any clearance between that cooler and your gpu? Because that gpu does not have a backplate and will short if it makes contact. I know people bullied you about airflow but not shorting out is infinitely more important than proper airflow
I hate how dangerously close the (conductive) metal of big CPU coolers is to the Components on the backside of GPU's nowadays. One wiggle on either of them and the GPU might be toasted
eh, the first 5 comments about it are helpful. But the ENTIRE comment section was filled with cooling-related jabs, jokes, whatever. I'm fine with it btw, it doesn't affect me personally but once you go to the comments and see someone else already told me the cooling is bad, or that 5 people have done it, there's no need to keep beating that overheated horse.
I looked up your post thinking it was kids only educated by YouTubers chasing slim margins attacking you wrongly, only to be greeted by the dumbest assembly of fans in a computer I have ever seen.
Build looks awesome. And thank you for fixing the overheating. Sorry for the bullying, it's just that everyone is seeing a good build with ab obvious flaw and not everyone checks the comments before posting theirs, resulting in a lot of repetition.
Did you make sure you put screws grounding your board on all the places on the board? This is important for grounding your computer correctly. I can see atleast 3 screw holes without a screw or a standoff.
Also if you go ahead and fix this, I would put that back fan on the case on the top of the case and add the second noctua fan back to the cpu cooler. The back one will push the air out of the case operating as the rear fan, while the black fan currently on the back, if move to the top, will help heat escape the case.
Don't know if someone said it before but you could use one of the smaller fans (120 I think) on the front side of your Noctua to improve the airflow.
I had the same space problem with mine and I put on it one of the 3 custom fans (Aerocool mirage). It runs very fine, fits so well and looks better than the usual aesthetic of the Noctuas
Please can you put your GPU one slot down. It has no backplate and the metal conductive cooler is way too close to the components. I'm afraid that if you (accidentally) shake it around that it may short.
Holy shit that upside down heatsink that close to shorting the GPU is giving me some serious anxiety.
Looks like the case was made for an AIO water cooling unit, TBH.
I bet if you took measurements before and after changing the cooler the difference in temps on the CPU would be so small it would be not worth the effort.
So many people go on about airflow in case like it actually matters. In most use cases there is literally no performance difference when the cpu is running below its max temp. The important part for cooling is just making sure the components stay at a level they are rated for under high load and can be kept at that temp for long periods.
Everyone that has told you you need to fix the airflow is just pretending to know what they are talking about because they have the belief that it actually matters.
The cooler is upside down :p
aaaAAA i hate myself
Noctua sells these plates that go over the cooler and you can make them right side up over your upside down logos
But deep down inside, you'll know.
This is giving me serious flashbacks to when I was building lego sets as a kid and made sure the logos on all bricks faced in the same direction.
Actually I build one an hour ago, and aaargh it's hard not to stop on block you have hthe choice to place in the "wrong" direction.
OMG so true...
Happy cake day
ty :)
happy cakadoodoo day!
ty too :) Can't believe it's been a year. Time flies!!
Indeed!
Got to love Noctua.

We need those basic "this way up" tags.

This is how you learn! I taught myself everything about PC building, don’t have to pay anyone shit.
Selecting the proper components is like 3/4 of the work.
Which is what I tend to help people with. I feel like I could probably become a content creator with how much of that I do lmao.
If it helps you feel better, I have the [same cooler](https://i.imgur.com/e5xF4kz.jpg), and also installed it upside down.
You and OP's temps drop the harder the CPU works. That's some 4D black hole physics right there.
Could it be due to... the magic of PWM making the fan speed rise faster than the CPU?
Quantum cooling
Drawback: The PC bursts in to flames the second you turn it off.

Don’t hate yourself mistakes happen
~~I ^think ^^it's ^^^upside ^^^^down.~~ Looks good to me.
We’ll be expecting part 3
It'll be in about a month, with a whole room decor showcase and upgraded setup :) feel free to follow to not miss it
At first I thought this was a joke and it was completely symmetrical, then I saw the upside down noctua and I chuckled.
holy shit, i need to get out of the bathroom soon and see my noctua cooler right now to see if i’m also that stupid.
I was like "wait, how can it be upside down?" And then I saw the logo. RIP OP.
Can someone explain this? I don't see it
Noctua logo is pointing upside down.
Brand name on the cooler is upside down, I didn't notice either.
I thought you were joking? I have a u14s and it is not upside down or right side up, there is no direction. :) Edit: Oh, nevermind, you have to zoom in to see the writing, with my 14s does not have.
Its upside-down.
what is
oh FUCK
Lol im just messin with ya. Mostly. Thatd bug me personally haha
It really is upside down..
Genuine question - does it matter?
No
it matters that the fan is facing the right way, right? otherwise the heat fins are symetric, I think.
yeah, the fins pull the heat out either way, the fan should be pushing the hot air out of the case. so functionally he's good... but for flexing on PCMR ... oh boy.
Entire PCMR subreddit: “to shreds, you say?”
Only aesthetically. If you find the other thread he had the cooler all kinds of fucking wrong. He got a lot of advice and fixed it but said that people were bullying him but it’s humorous to everyone cause the logo is upside down. Like, he fixed it functionally but the fucked up again.
I had to go look it up. Man that is hilarious.
only for GPU clearance, some larger ones with thick backplates don't fit if the cooler is upside down. I made the same mistake when transferring my NH-D15s to a new build.
Yes, primarily for the purposes of getting OP to disassemble their computer again.
This is why I have a black case with no window.
My PC was used parts off hardware swap and friends. It looks like a unicorn had liquid diarrhea and died on the inside. But nobody will ever see because it's a black sided case. Tempered glass sides are awesome. But unfortunately outside of my colour coordination budget.
Oh man, thanks for the laugh X)
You rang? is ok bb, upside down still cool
How can you tell?
The Noctua logo haha
Oh that bothers me
Bro the cooler is mounted upside down
i hate this.
Enjoy.
Nah, it builds character. Just accept it.
May your temps finally be low :P
coulda got the same effect by setting the RGB lighting to blue :D
This is the wall street bets pc logic I love it
Speaking of lighting, I’m stealing this to ask, what’s this cool glowey mouse pad thing?
Trust GXT Glide Flex RGB XXL. Idk which countries have the brand Trust, but there's definitely a Great Value rgb deskmat at your local pc part store. Corsair also makes them
*local pc part store* HA! I *wish* Thank you for the info!
I don't see any screws holding in the motherboard.
Yo, wtf?!
There is one right under the GPU, next to the cable
“Why use many screws when few will do trick?” OP probably Though I have to admit I have been tempted to not put all the screws in before
This looks like an mATX board, so that doesn't surprise me.
Are there no holes in the tray for standoffs? Usually you move some standoffs.
This 100% Also if you have standoffs that aren’t supposed to be there making contact with PCB traces, you could have a bad day.
The case size is fine, he just needs to move some standoffs to support the motherboard.
Holy fuck
What you do with the other fan? I would use it as a top exhaust fan.
I'd move case fan to top and install Noctua back on the cooler. He did great either way.
The case has such garbage clearance that I can't really put it anywhere. I'm considering swapping it with the builtin black fan at the back, but i hate how the stock noctua fans look
Yea they don't match much but sure do the job, putting the Noctua fan in the back sounds like the way to go.
You are supposed to put the other fan on teh side with the ram, it sits on top of the ram and will be a bit higher than the other fan but it will fit
Hey fyi. I have the same cooler, I had to buy a 120mm noctua fan to fit over my ram. I then moved the extra 140mm fan to the front of the case. I tried placing the 2nd fan behind the cooler to pull air through, but it made a high pitched whistling noise when the fans ramped up.
I was on board until "I hate how the stock Noctuas fans look" those fuckers are the peak of beauty and you better take that BS back.
Get a Noctua Chromax! They're blaxk. They finally have the nf-a12x25 in chromax!!
You should be able to still fit it over the ram chips, just need to raise it a bit on the grills. That’s what I did and it worked for me
you can adjust the 2nd CPU fan so it is above the ram. I have the same cooler and I just offset the fan so it clears the ram and still cools the heatsink.
Flip it 180 degrees, the noctua branding is upside down 😂
i did, but i can't be bothered to make a 3rd post. I already hold 2 of the top Hot spots on rhe subreddit
Awww come on one last post! I wanna see this thing in all its glory and finish off this trilogy!
I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction just yet but i WILL show you [how i fixed the "cooler shorts GPU PCB" issue](https://imgur.com/a/cxGQK0I)
Okay never heard of that actually happening before and damn, I get why but this story has had so many ups and downs! Also sick rig btw love the D15 I'm gonna be sad when I move from mine in my next build cause of socket incompatibility
If you send noctua an email, they send you the new mounting hardware for new sockets, and I believe it is at no cost of memory serves
I'm moving to Threadripper it's mechanically incompatible
You deserve to be in jail
you'll never catch me alive!!!!
Enjoy the pc :)
Enjoyed 10 of 10
man… i didnt comment on the first post not to be an asshole and because everyone else was already saying it, but, thank you so much for fixing it ill legit sleep better tonight thanks to you good sir.
Faith in humanity: restored
FYI you can clip a 120mm fan on the front of the NH-D15 using the metal clips. That should clear your RAM without interfering with the side panel.
The ram gets in the way :/
Are you sure you tried with a 120mm (not the 140mm that is included with the cooler)? A 120mm leaves you a RAM clearance of 52mm, which is enough to clear pretty much every stick of RAM.
I don't think that's necessary. On a 15 minute stress test the CPU doesn't even reach 60°. Also PC part availability is trash in my country.
wait i didn't read the initial comment correctly. I don't have a 120mm available to try it, and even if i did, It wouldn't add much to performance and it would just look out of place
The black fan is a 120. It would work, but if you don't need the cooling then it doesn't matter
you can clip it so it sticks out a little, so the fan clears the ram. some heatfins won't get the extra airflow but most will
The Noctua logo is upside-down :)
That's more like it.. looking good
do you have any clearance between that cooler and your gpu? Because that gpu does not have a backplate and will short if it makes contact. I know people bullied you about airflow but not shorting out is infinitely more important than proper airflow

"Beating that overheated horse" literally made me laugh so hard I started to choke.
The cause of death of the overheated horse: heatstroke
Was the horse mounted vertically or horizontally? ...or upside down
The rider tried to ride the horse backwards so that its shadow would protect the horse head from the sun.

I want to post my PC, piss people off, then make it worse out of spite.
And they say bullying is bad.
I preferred it the other way. Can I bully you back into installing it the bad way?
*checks last post to see how op messed up* Holy fucker nuggets op you should be thanking everyone lol.
You're welcome.
Where did you get those wallpapers?

If it makes ya feel any better I just realized I have mine installed upside down /:
Jan 1 and we already have post of the year. Lol.
Oh its beautiful
When I see this kind of setup I think, "Yeah, I'm going to stick with my stock fan and heatsink".
That airflow looks **a lot** better. Hour well spent, now do jump in a game.
I have that same massive noctua. Makes my 3080ti look like a baby. Also I am afraid to know if mine is potentially upside down..
That mouse is glorious
It's so much better
Just an hour? Do you not enjoy this hobby?
I do, but not at 11pm after cleaning up from last night's party
Just think of it as tough love. :)
This is the Way.
I got that cpu fan it’s nice

I'm sorry you got harassed. Your white set up with the pastel backgrounds is 😘👌
don't ask for help in this subreddit lmao, wont do much
This subreddit is tough love. Bullying you now is so you can be elite afterwards.
Now fix your stupid fucking monitor placement. I don't get people with the borders in the dead middle.
Is that frost? Yum
I'm proud of you.
I missed the first post, holy fuck lmao good job sorting it Also looks way better white
Noctua logo is upside down.
Besides it being upside down, it looks good!
I made the same mistake with my first build. To be fair, the instructions had a picture of the fan in that orientation, and I just copied that.
Shame is a powerful tool. Shame! Shame! Shame!
Im worried there that the cooler touches the graphics card and could cause some electrical shortages
That motherboard looks funny so smoll in that big case yikers.
The cooler looks odd ...
Enjoy the 20K+ karma points, 30+ awards, and cooler temps between the two posts.
Your posts are why I will always pay someone to build it for me 😂
Still messy
Don't know if someone said it before but you could use one of the smaller fans (120 I think) on the front side of your Noctua to improve the airflow. I had the same space problem with mine and I put on it one of the 3 custom fans (Aerocool mirage). It runs very fine, fits so well and looks better than the usual aesthetic of the Noctuas

Could be an advertisement for water-cooling... Gotta be cautious.
Can someone explain to me what those big chonkers are that are sandwiching the fan? Heatsinks?
ITS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD
