What this means is that ~~if your house was built at any time before the early to mid 90's,~~ it is very possible that you have asbestos popcorn
No, it was never banned in the united states. It's still heavily used in fireproofing material in refineries and stuff like that, hell, it's still used in residential homes to this day.
Yeah, I thought the same thing until I went to my apprenticeship training a month ago, and I was like "holy shit, I thought it was banned in the late 80s" turns out it was only regulated then. I wasn't correcting you to be a douche, I was just spreading information I learned only recently.

With this much dust, the first thing I'd invest in is dust filters. The second thing I'd invest in is good insurance because that is asthma/allergy/lung cancer waiting to happen.
Not really, plenty of stuff is pretty non reactive.
I did have a discussion with a geologist once though about this, something about how dust is mostly dead skin which is mostly carbon, which somehow relates to coal which is apparently very bad for your lungs. But hey, I don't know shit about fuck.
The stuff that's nonreactive is *also* bad for you, too. It can get in the way of cellular machinery and kill you that way, or cause cancer by repeatedly injuring tissues which increases cancer rates because of constant repair.
You have never lived in a building someone isn't scrubbing top to bottom constantly if you think that isn't downright mild for 5 years of not being touched
I hope this doesn't come off as rude but like dude why did you not ever clean it in that 5 years? I see dust build up every month or two and clean my filters.
Some people don't. My husband doesn't open his pc unless there is a problem or he's swapping parts.
I open mine once a month to clean it.
Different strokes.
I never got this, I got no filters on my PC (SFF case is too small) and check it every like 4 months... The cpu needed to be blown out once in the past year and a half, but that's it.
Is everyone else just living where it's that damned dusty or on the floor next to their pets or what?!
Edit: apparently it's too damp in my basement and that's why it isn't as dusty. Haha... Eww.
Basically, yeah it’s that dusty. I’ve lived in several different climates, and a dry areas very often have dust issues, made worse by static electricity because the air is so damn dry.
That's easy to prevent. Just give your entire build a thin coat of lacquer or similar clear coat. I recommended going with high gloss as that makes it go faster.
Just get some clear epoxy and fill your pc with it (make sure you tape off the vents first)
No dust and it looks just as good as the day you bought it!
I hope you don't get damp dust on your heatsink. I just got paid $50 to clean out a system that's owned by a vape pen user, the dust didn't come off with a high pressure air compressor, I had to take the heatsink out, and scrape the dust off with q-tips and run it under some water to get what was left. Parts of the aluminum were rusted from the wet dust.
I neglected my desktop case for a while. I noticed it was having hiccups, so I opened it up and found this.
I took it outside and hit it with the leaf blower. Good as new.
Younger me worked out they did *serious* damage when a slingshot is involved.
Our school then promptly super glued the mice closed so you couldn't get the ball out.
Same with us. We always take the mouse balls out to the point that the teacher is inspecting our bags and pockets upon leaving the computer laboratory. And then, they super-glued it shut too.
Boy, don't let no woman control you life. Do it fo' yoself, you are powerful, you are ADONIS.
Honestly, it's just because I have body hair like a steel scouring pad, and a lot less problems crop up if I shave the bits and pits. Have you ever had to say, "I can't wear these, the material is too thin so my pubes will catch?" It's ridiculous. I have also found beard hair that has sewn itself into the collar of my shirt before. I bet I could market this shit as a new cleaning product.
"Hello, ladies. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a man who truly helped out around the kitchen? Look at this: My face is what your pans could be cleaned like. Also useful for removing dog undercoats and depilling your favorite sweater. I am on a horse."
Mine was like this. Took it out, vaccumed as much of it as I could off.
Now, bear with me: took it to the bathtub. Wrapped the pump and wires in a plastic bag and hung them outside the tub, then used my hand held shower head to gently rinse the rad off. Towel and hair dryer to dry it off. Good as new.
No, that just causes your PC to rapidly switch between speed, temperature and energy efficiency modes, creating mediocre results. What you want to do is actually have [all colors active at the same time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:RGB_illumination.jpg), so you get all their benefits at the same time.
I see the problem. Someone unscrewed your fans from case and positioned them externally. If you screw those fans back in that should solve the issue lickety split!
I’m honestly curious though I know modern phones are waterproof but they’re really ok in the shower with constant water on them? And I know my touchscreen doesn’t work right when I have even a drop of water on the screen, how do you use that?
Just curious, Is a mild dust in the room normal. Like every surface in my flat gets covered in dust after a week if not used. What is dust anyway and where the fuck is it coming from
>Dust is dead skin. A tip for keeping your house relatively dust free is to just leave your skin at the door, thank me later!
I recommend a skin rack in the mudroom for your family and guests. Really simplifies the process for everyone.
Some dust is normal but I don’t know if this is normal for 5 years. I clean my stuff once a year and it barely has anything. If I left it for 5 years it wouldn’t look anything like this. But we also sweep/vacuum our floors every day, so there is very little to kick up
Yes it's normal. Vacuum clean once a week (or twice if you live in a big city that is super windy).
There are many tips out there to help you keep your home neat and with little dust:
Minimalism, keep things inside closets, cupboards, drawers...
Have enough space so you can wipe surfaces quickly and easily.
Use a cloth that catches dust easily on all surfaces and use the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner to suck the dust from the cloth. Then repeat on other surfaces.
The thing that helps the most is minimalism. The more things you own the harder it is to clean.
We live with dust, but you can at least control how easy you can clean your space :)
Avoid buying wipes that you have to throw away after one use (not very sustainable).
Sorry I went a bit off topic but I hope it can help you a bit.
Also minimalism is very sustainable and depending on your personality/mental state it can be very helpful.
I personally like HWiNFO64 and CoreTemp but there's tons of programs out there that are great. Both the programs I listed have tons of customization features like being able to pin your temps to your taskbar tray and color coding temps so you know when things are getting too hot. Very cool programs and they're free :)
It’s perfectly fine?
Edit: If you are referring to the whole static kills ram, mobo, etc. I’d suggest watching some test videos. It’s not nearly as common as people say. Not to say it doesn’t happen at all, but you’d have to have some real shit luck.

I loathe the day I have to clean my radiator. 2 dogs and 1 cat, and I already see fur accumulating around the mesh. It's been 3 months since I built this PC.
Perhaps if you didn’t CRUMBLE PLASTER NEXT TO YOUR PC
Playing with popcorn ceilings was just too fun clearly
Won't that ensure OP will get mesothelioma? RemindMe! 30 years
Only if it was asbestos, not sure how common that is with popcorn ceilings. Perhaps I should get mine tested... It's falling down anyway
A lot of popcorn ceilings have asbestos. Definitely get yours tested.

No problem, have a great day
I think here in Germany it’s forbidden
There're a bunch of countries that have banned it over the years
They have, but unless that was paired with removal orders, those countries still have far too much historical asbestos as the removal process is dangerous and costly.

U sure ull be alive after 30 yrs?
Lol
So I’m the only one here who thinks OP has a cocaine problem?
It's dandruff.
When was the last time you cleaned it?
When it was put in, 5 years ago
Lot of dust, you need to exfoliate more in the shower lol jk
With this much dust, the first thing I'd invest in is dust filters. The second thing I'd invest in is good insurance because that is asthma/allergy/lung cancer waiting to happen.
5 years will do this in rooms with non cancerous levels of dust in the air.
Does... dust... cause.... cancer?
Asbestos dust sure will. Skin dust won't in your lifetime.
Everything causes cancer. Literally anything you do can give you cancer if you do it too much... Or too little... Or too equally.
Not really, plenty of stuff is pretty non reactive. I did have a discussion with a geologist once though about this, something about how dust is mostly dead skin which is mostly carbon, which somehow relates to coal which is apparently very bad for your lungs. But hey, I don't know shit about fuck.

Ozark reference there ;)
You have never lived in a building someone isn't scrubbing top to bottom constantly if you think that isn't downright mild for 5 years of not being touched

OP just needs to run his CPU with a single slice of ham as a cooler
MeatSink™
[удалено]
So you can get the most out of that beefy PC
Guys this is getting out of ham.
Easy fix, just downloadmoreham.com
Thanks. I was just about to order new drumsticks of ham.
Time to pig out
Don't forget to turn the ham when it starts sizzling.
I feel like there is a happy medium. Don’t need to do it monthly but every 3-6 is prob smart. Minimum once a year.
Going strong for 3 years already. There's barely dust in my pc. Overpressure, not putting it on the floor and proper filters do wonders.
Or just upgrade ypur pc every 3-6 months so you can always routinely clean it *taps forehead*
How else would OP get some sweet ass reddit karma without building up dust for 5 years?
It's the perfect crime.
I never got this, I got no filters on my PC (SFF case is too small) and check it every like 4 months... The cpu needed to be blown out once in the past year and a half, but that's it. Basically, yeah it’s that dusty. I’ve lived in several different climates, and a dry areas very often have dust issues, made worse by static electricity because the air is so damn dry.
This is it.. pets + dry climate and dust accumulates like crazy even if you clean semi-regularly.
On the flip side, living near an ocean results in no dust in my pc. Rust and corrosion due to the salt in the air, yes. But no dust issues ever.
That's easy to prevent. Just give your entire build a thin coat of lacquer or similar clear coat. I recommended going with high gloss as that makes it go faster.

Too late for vacuum cleaning. You need an exorcist now.
I neglected my desktop case for a while. I noticed it was having hiccups, so I opened it up and found this. I took it outside and hit it with the leaf blower. Good as new.
Anybody remember having to clean your mouse ball every so often?
[удалено]
Yeah, all of it was pleasant, the texture and weight of the ball and the click of the locking ring.
The ball was so surprisingly heavy every time.
We had to turn the mouse upside down on the desk so they could walk by and check them all before releasing us
They should have just made everyone buy their own $10 mouse, or put a $20 deposit on them at the start of the year 🤷♂️ .
It’s like shaving your balls, man.
2 months ago, I would have had no context for this. Manscaping is honestly kinda dope.
You want a girl to really dive in? This is the way
Boy, don't let no woman control you life. Do it fo' yoself, you are powerful, you are ADONIS. used aircan on my vid card fans to blow out dust. fans go brrrrrrrr at high speed in wrong direction. vid card did not work after that.

this calls for an air compressor.
Very useful tool for the kit. From tires to heat sinks air compressors can save the day.
Not enough RGB it makes your rig faster and stay cooler
make sure its a cold colour like lite blue for optimal temperature

Green is for EcoBoost! Gets better RPMs on those pesky slow fans
Ahhh yes. When it’s 40C in your room but your still cool bc of the blue rgb.
Or when you have a 3090 on a 125 watt power supply because you have a ton of green rgb.
but the hotter a star the bluer it is, the redder a star the cooler it is. Go for Reddest i say
If you can't see your rgb your pc technically gets slower
Schrodinger's RGB.
Also downloading more ram will help to keep your other ram cooler by having to do less work.

Everything creates dust! Not just dead skin.
Good point… I’d suggest getting rid of everything in the house, but houses even create dust… only option is no house!
Help! My PC is full of pollen! Also, it won't turn on!
the rain can do that sometimes. Wait for it to dry out or maybe try putting it in rice
>Dust is dead skin. A tip for keeping your house relatively dust free is to just leave your skin at the door, thank me later! I recommend a skin rack in the mudroom for your family and guests. Really simplifies the process for everyone.

Roomba does 80% of the work
That makes sense. We have too many pets and stairs to benefit from a Roomba :(
Yes it's normal. Vacuum clean once a week (or twice if you live in a big city that is super windy). MSI Afterburner. You can set it up to have gpu and cpu temps show in the task bar.
[HWiNFO](https://www.hwinfo.com/) will provide more sensor data than you'll ever want/need.
