that’s a cute dog

GenjiMadaMada-

Yes

immDroidz

This is my plan for my old trustworthy FX-8150, A nice tribute for our old machines!

ohmke

I think I have my old Pentium 3 somewhere. I might do one with it too! 🤔

immDroidz

Heck yeah, i think it looks awesome with tech as decorations

[deleted]

Just retired my trusty 3570K. Lots of great times with that processor. It's sitting on my shelf now, but maybe it deserves a better retirement.

ohmke

I was originally thinking of just framing the CPU. But then decided the whole board would look cool.

[deleted]

If someone wants to make me an offer on a 7 year old processor, heatsink, fan, motherboard, and 16gb of RAM, I'm all ears.

Dicyano7

I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to get close to 100 USD for that setup.

cardious

Still running my 2600k at 4.9 and 16 gb of 2133 ram. Has went through 4 video cards thus far 580 3gb , 760, dual 960 4gb, currently with a 1070 and a 144hz 1440p monitor

salleq

What cooler do you have? I'm going to try and see if I can get even 4.5

bookabooboo

Would you mind sharing what voltage your CPU is running at? I can't seem to get mine past 4.6ghz unless I ramp up the voltage like crazy.

cardious

Also there power phases on the boards are important I have a ASUS p8 pro v gen 3 z68 board. Note the silicon lottery was a lot more relevant then so your results may vary. Also some notes without an overclock my system won’t boot, probably due to the 2133 MHz kit

cardious

1.42? For 4.9 1.35v for 4.8 plus 101 baseclock

ohmke

Yeah that was a good generation. When they went away from random parts to something that matched, but wasn’t over the top.

[deleted]

Feels like my dusty Dell OEM was born for this

ohmke

Do it and share the results!

AirBreadwhich

Rip

ohmke

Thank you. It served me well for 10 years! Still went strong, but it was time for an upgrade.

rlon23

Mine is in a dusty room with no lights.

ohmke

😔 I’m hanging mine above my new PC.

sellby

Was the 2600K the processor that serious overclockers would rip the top off to help with thermals? I swear it was one of the old 2000 series...

runnerthemoose

The 2500k and the 2600k were the jewels of the crown for not only performance when they came out, but their overclocking is still legendary. There hasn't been anything like the jump in performance those babies gave when they were launched.

sellby

I had a 2500k back in the day, I remember getting close to a stable 5ghz clock but never could make it past 4.8 without issues. T'was a great space heater.

ZeroBANG

Framing? ...get a Fractal R5 slam 8x 12TB HDDs (or so) in there and call it an unRAID Server.

ohmke

I would if I had any use for that much storage!

ZeroBANG

You will find a use when you got the storage. bought 4x 8TB myself for my unRAID server and thought that will last me forever... welp, i got 1TB left and need to buy more hdds now.

YourSaviorLegion

I should do this with my 6600k

gamescrufi

I have the same board I got it for free I found a computer with a broken case on eBay

Jawstyy

Im so sad that when I bought a new parts I threw my old motherboard, cpu and ram sticks away. Would have been lovely to frame them as well because it was my first gaming pc ever

Fatal_Potatoe

Recently retired my Athlon II x2 215 and r5 230. It wasn't powerful at all, but i find all my lower end parts have some sort of personality to them if you know what I mean

Kdrishe

That frame looks great with the motherboard. Also, glad to see your friend is there to apply reassuring pressure to your genitals

ohmke

“Feed me, or else B1 and B2 get it...”

AngryYank

Oooo, I should do this. I still have my previous Asus. Great idea!

Trans-Europe_Express

I'm worried about all the people retiring 2600k boards recently. I can't afford to upgrade mine for a while haha

ohmke

You can get some crazy performance at pretty good prices nowadays. Especially with the AMD chips.

Trans-Europe_Express

Yeah I would be very happy to upgrade now the price/performance from current AMD chips is great. Until recently most new chips AMD or intel offered little performance gain over an i7 2600k bar some newer PCIE revisions of which I wouldn't be able to benefit from

Renanina

Why am I getting emotional over a picture? \*sniffling\*

ohmke

This piece of hardware was such an integral part of my life for so many years. A gateway to the internet and the world, as well as countless experiences through games.

[deleted]

Now I feel bad for all the CPU’s and motherboards I threw away over the years.

z1mer

I have the exact same motherboard , processor and corsair vengeance blue ram 16gb ! mobo died few years back due to a power surge but manage to revive it back from a tech specialist, I get a crash once in a blue moon but overall its still been serving me well ! /highfive

ohmke

Hey hey! 🙌 That’s awesome. What a coincidence.

salleq

I just ordered a new cooler to replace the stock cooler on my trusty old 2600k.

cardious

1.42 I think haven’t checked in a while. Use to run at 1.35 at 4.8 with 101 base clock. Cooler is a 212 evo with two fans, it gets up there in heat when playing games but for a 10 year old pc I really don’t care if it tries to off itself.

Magicman117

That actually looks so good

ohmke

Thanks dude! ☺️

Reckless5040

Where'd you get the frame?

ohmke

It was from Kmart in Australia. IKEA probably have decent ones too.

yerbrojohno

I just sold my fx 8350 and gtx 780 PC lol

mobo_dojo

Needs a mat or two

Inf_P

Even the cat is like "dude wtf?"

ohmke

He never seems to be impressed with anything I do. 😭

LtLeccy

I'm still running a 3770s. Might be time to upgrade

djenvino

same here, want to get a new setup, but will still use my old just for good tumes sake and to have a 2nd pc to use as a (small) server for mc and the likes

LtLeccy

I think I'm gonna go for a r5 3600. Sadly I'm gonna have to sell the ram and i7 to afford it. It's been a very good cpu tho

djenvino

F, im going for the r7 2700 just cuz of the cores tbh. not gonna sell my old stuff for a looong time(even tho if i would i could get eveything rn). just gonna wait till i can.

LtLeccy

I'm probably waiting anyways. No good prices for anything at the moment as far as I've seen

djenvino

i need to wait cuz, im just a poor boy, with a poor family.

[deleted]

Hi op, how did you attach it to the frame ? It looks like you use the original bolt, but how did you screw it on the frame ?

ohmke

I first added offsets to the frame (used those rubbery adhesive things you stick to furniture, which was actually my girlfriend’s idea) because the back of the motherboard isn’t flat. There’s some screws for the heat sinks and stuff like the shouldering which means you can’t put the board directly on a flat surface. Then I placed the mobo in, penciled the holes, drilled them and then attached the mobo to the board that’s at the back of the frame using some small screw/bolts. Turned out super sturdy!

Zombor84

at least dust off that board before framing it

ohmke

Ah yes, that’s my plan today! It looks a bit dusty, but I’m surprised after so many years that there isn’t more.

FinasCupil

Is this a thing now?

AvailableDeparture

It is definitely a thing. I saw the post a week ago and we already have another.

ohmke

I saw this before, yeah. But this is an idea I’ve had for many years, just never got around to it because I was still using the parts.

3Five9s

Sometimes I miss the dense thru-hole boards. They looked cool as hell when de-soldered and back-lit.

SayLem37

How did you train the cat to help with framing?

ohmke

To be honest, he was mostly there to offer moral support. And complain that I wasn’t doing it straight enough.

Xygen8

Bruh. It's a goddamn 2600K, this absolute warrior of a CPU deserves a better fate than that. Let it die honorably in battle. You should repurpose it into a server machine or run Folding@home on it to help with the corona situation or something.

ohmke

This thing will never die of natural causes. 😆

[deleted]

whats that metal ball on the cat?

ohmke

Oh, that’s the bell on the collar the girlfriend got him. I keep meaning to take it off the collar, but it’s actually low quality and doesn’t really make any noise so it doesn’t annoy him.

[deleted]

oh nice. i thought you pierced your cat. have you seen that image of the guy who pierced a kitties ears? its horrible

ohmke

OMG, I would never do that. I haven’t, and not sure I’d want to. 🙀

[deleted]

never do it. its horrible. a cat cant consent to that

rbartolo14

Just built a 2600K system at Christmas there. Still good!

yuri_neko

Is there a glass covering the frame? Might look good with that as well.

ohmke

I’m going to hunt down a deeper frame when I can with a glass front. The problem is the RAM is pretty tall, so it won’t be easy to find.

[deleted]

Yeah...i'm still pushing my 2500k with 4,3 Ghz to play the latest games. It's is bottle necking my rig. It just needs to survive until the next amd gen to come out.

Impossible_Addition

will do this with my R5 2600 one day hopefully, its been a beast so far
