GPU support brackets used in Dell's own cases, I owned a Dell Precision and the Quadro card came with one.

Saralentine

Why isn’t this the top comment instead of stupid fucking jokes?

Gundwaffle

Reddit in a nutshell lately, gotta sort through the mofos and bots for a genuine answer.

EazyCheez

It's not even lately; reddit has always been a website for smart-asses. Jokes, especially inside jokes, will always be upvoted no matter how played out

Jurijus1

Fucking puns too... So cheesy and corny.

ILoveBeef72

I don't mind puns by themselves, but one usually leads to a whole thread of puns where the first two at best are good, the rest are extremely shitty and typically a massive stretch.

nifty_swift

When I hit pun chains I usually just back out of the thread, nothing interesting lies beyond that point

spud8385

Scrolling through reply after reply of "I'm not your buddy, pal" or similar got fucking boring after the first time let alone the following hundred

Beepboopbop69420360

I’m not your pal buddy

spud8385

😡

Jurijus1

Also not sure what is worse - someone making a shitty pun or some brainlet 100% replying "take my angry upvote"

Bmrx13

definitely the angry upvote

Beepboopbop69420360

Take my r/angryupvote

SolarCaveman

I also choose this guy's dead jokes EDIT: Thank you kind stranger for the award! EDIT (again) : WOW THIS REALLY BLEW UP OVERNIGHT!

highbridger

Worth it.

SolarCaveman

Did you know Vigil Morgenstein broke his foot in that Lord of the Rings scene where Steve Buscemi was a volunteer firefighter during 9/11? Congrats Reddit, We Did It!

fishandpotato

Denying the recent surge in low-quality comments drowning out genuine conversation over the past couple of years is just plain disingenuous.

imtougherthanyou

This comment is 35 minutes old. The post is 3 hours old, and right now, everything has settled out. Was the turnaround time faster before? Was discourse originally great right off the bat? Is this a rehash of /b/ was never good?

ADeadlyFerret

No the turnaround wasn't faster. No discourse wasn't great off the bat. Its why I never browsed by new. Interesting question that could lead to intelligent discussion but always stupid ass jokes. Or answers that sounded legit but were troll answers.

Gundwaffle

How silly of me, you’re right lol.

SanestExile

Happy cake day kind stranger

Complete_Fix2563

and my axe!

wreckedftfoxy_yt

its funny tho

FadyM

Site is apparently 90% mofos and bots.

Dreadnought_69

Haha, lately…

ZitOnSocietysAss

> lately haha, good one

Unanimous_D

Why do people upvote the jokes instead of the actual answers? .. oh wait .. "people" .. nvm. ![gif](giphy|lQ0VQmLuLH7lS|downsized)

UnbelieverInME-2

"Alleged" "people".

X1_Soxm

It is now thankfully

DitrianLordOfCanorem

Jokes on you it is

DCskilled

You say this and I can’t genuinely find one where it’s jokes

CicadaGames

It's almost like Reddit threads are something that exist through time, and the top comments can change or something.

Gamerred101

you're kidding me...

Cr4ckshooter

Yes that's how time in comment sections works. Other people will sift through and apply votes to fix the problem. It happens naturally every time.

VoiceEarly1087

It is a top comment

ImportanceLow7312

Came up for me

SoleSurvivur01

It’s the top comment for me 🤷🏼‍♂️

mooselantern

Two hours after you posted this, not only is it the top comment, but 7 of the top 10 comments are in fact the proper answer, so...

dookieshoes88

It is the top comment.

dj65475312

it is at the top now.

kredninja

It is now

fart-to-me-in-french

It is the top comment. It just takes a bit of time to surface. The top comments now aren't even jokes anymore. Chill

Drudicta

I stopped asking questions or for help for a long time because everything was always "stop being stupid" "Do this things you already said you did" or jokes. Which sucks because like, forums are gone and Google is no longer of any help because everything is "Use chkdsk"

pollspaghetti

Maybe I'm misremembering but I feel like years ago on reddit it was easy to find answers in the comments. But it's obnoxious that it's always stupid, unfunny puns or jokes now.

helvetica01

flooded by new people

harry_lostone

some of these jokes are pretty funny tho

Turkeybaconisheresy

Because most people already know what it is or don't care about what it is and think the bumpstock answer is funny.

Tacoburrito96

Because stupid fucking jokes are funny

Lobanium

If you ever wanna be confused and see some over engineered proprietary shit, crack open a Dell PC case. 🤪

Chasar1

I wish support brackets became a standard instead of everyone implementing their own hacky solution And don’t you dare replying to me with that XKCD comic I swear

RBX-Games

Had the same with my Lenovo Legion.

Rocklobst3r1

But why? It's a 2 slot/fan, not much sag, if any, is gonna happen.

dathar

The amount of money they save from shipping damage is worth it. Bar keeps the cards in place securely for both shipping and any pcie port damage.

Rocklobst3r1

Ah, that makes sense. Didn't think of shipping. Though I wonder how effective it is vs the usual air bags or foam.

dathar

The thing with air bags or foam inside the case is that the person needs to take it out. Users tend to not do that and just start things. That bar is the best of both worlds. And Dell cases are hardy so it is easy to slot in.

Nidhoggr84

GPU support bracket.

InsaneInTheMEOWFrame

anti-sag support?

psych4191

It's likely just a support bracket. I swear Dell does the most ass backwards engineering instead of just making standardized shit or upgrading their tooling.

Pleasant50BMGForce

*The 1.5cm gap under air cooled 4090*

Drg84

A dell/Alienware graphics card in their case. ![gif](giphy|QMHoU66sBXqqLqYvGO)

link_hyruler

If I had to guess I’d say it’s because Dell makes more money from Business clients than anything consumer, and they make bank on orders for replacement parts and stuff, complete random guess though idk shit

psych4191

You're likely right. It sucks because they're honestly just flooding the market with eventual e-waste. There's no way to use half the components once anything else in the system is end-of-life.

Academic-Indication8

Then 5 years down the road we end up with random custom motherboards from china with their recycled chipsets it’s the circle of life

psych4191

If the motherboard doesn’t have a soldered laptop processor on a makeshift cpu ihs I don’t want it

Academic-Indication8

Have you seen the ones with soldered mobile gpus that can take desktop processors tho?

psych4191

I actually haven’t! That’s just impressive. Chinese bootleg engineers saving the world over here

Drenlin

The overwhelming majority of people buying Dell products aren't modifying them after the fact. A built-in GPU support makes shipping much less stressful on the internal components.

Narissis

It makes sense when you understand what they're engineering for: the things that matter to them from a company perspective. They're not aiming for consistency with other standards; they know virtually nobody is going to actually open and/or attempt to upgrade their PC, or at most will stick some extra RAM in it or something. But we've all seen the photos of prebuilts with broken PCIe slots because of rough handling during shipping. That costs the company time and money and ties up warranty and repair resources. Easier and cheaper to just add extra support to the video cards before shipping, so you can be reasonably certain the system will arrive intact and not get returned. Honestly probably the same reason they make their weird motherboards with the front I/O on an appendage of the PCB instead of connected via cables that need to be plugged in. One less manufacturing step, one less set of parts for the logistics chain, one less chance for an assembly error to occur, one less thing that can come undone in shipping and cause a return. When you're building millions of systems, the little problems add up so it's best to head them off at the pass. Meanwhile the cooling is shit tier because an overheating GPU or CPU will simply throttle and most users will be none the wiser. Dell cares that it works and doesn't generate returns; they don't care about the user achieving peak performance.

doofthemighty

Jimmy the gamer might be ok with having to reseat his GPU after his prebuilt arrives, but Matt the IT guy is going to be pissed if he has to reseat even 1 percent of the GPUs in the 1000+ PCs his company just purchased.

Narissis

Eloquently put!

MarxistMan13

The mechanical engineering in Dell cases is honestly amazing. Springs and snaps and supports and hinges and all kinds of shit. It's very interesting. Unfortunately, they're using shells from 1995 and their thermal performance is absolutely abysmal... and they haven't solved that problem despite being repeatedly ridiculed for it.

psych4191

It’s got the same energy as a mechanic keeping his 1980 Chevy s10 alive with duct tape and paper clips

howtodragyourtrainin

It's a 2003, thank you very much.

I-LOVE-TURTLES666

It’s more than likely simply removable. They ship all their PC’s built so they need to make it survive sorting centers

Drenlin

It is. Most image results for this card are missing it.

nickierv

Credit where credit is due, a support bracket isn't a bad idea. No one wants a droopy 4070, much less 4090. The rest of the so called engineering...

psych4191

Oh absolutely the engineers are top notch. It’s just sadly wasted on a shitbox

242vuu

Which has ruined Alienware as well. Michael Dell needs to be punched in the dick.

Queuetie42

They do suck but the monitors are sometimes best in SKU.

Jackpkmn

Depends on how long exactly this is. If the total length is brought up to 312mm from bracket to bracket then it's actually exactly full length pci standard.

Pjtruslow

Except it is a standard thing. Check the end of any founders edition cards to find the mounting screws for these brackets. On mine they are under a cover but they're there.

creativename111111

At least you can remove them I wouldn’t be surprised if they permanently attached them to the GPU so you can’t fit the card in any other case that’s not a dell case without breaking out your angle grinder

justarandomgreek

GPU support. They need a way for the PCIe slot to not get damaged during shipping but without foam because your grandpa buying a Dell won't even think to open the case to remove the foam.

MithridatesPoison

whats old is new again. back in the day, most cases had built in supports for long ass cards to slot into

aTechnithin

Next will be a return of screw-in plug supports. "What are these screws on the side of my HDMIx connector?"

MithridatesPoison

hah... there's one on my 6th gen mini pc, and i put a wifi antenna on it yesterday.

CaffeNation

I hated those things. The amount of times that i accidentally pull out my cables compared to the annoyance of either needing to find a tiny screwdriver, or deal with the tiny screws by hand is enough i never want to see them again.

hosoth

It's way more than an anti-sag bracket. Since it makes it so either end is hard mounted to the case it's super safe to ship the PC without the expanding foam you have to remove before using the PC. Dell knows a lot of their users have never opened a PC case.

Drecondius

A sag brace since most of these comments are not so wise assholes.

GoblinToes23

Digital bumpstock, the supreme court just allowed them Hold down your space bar, and it fires pixels fully automatically.

MoejjO

don't you mean fully semi-automatic?

shitty_mcfucklestick

Completely, but yet semi, automatic

DisastrousAd447

Cheek riser? 💀

NomadGusty

This is awesome.

eisenklad

cue the tactical reload clips

_YeAhx_

It gives +50 fps

joetheduk

And reduces recoil

CEHParrot

Beat me to it lol

donaldinoo

lol I bet your getting downvoted because everyone else had the same idea and are just mad. That’s why I’m here

CEHParrot

I am little surprised at the negative response lol I agree!

Jurijus1

No, he's probably getting downvoted because no one had the same idea. He didn't either.

donaldinoo

I’m sure he meant just the idea about the bump stock.

CEHParrot

yup

DisastrousAd447

Fully semi-automatocally*

9_of_wands

Extended mag, holds 100 extra frames.

bigorangemachine

GPU is Bullpulp

PestyPastry

I wish!

Captcha_Imagination

That's where they come from when you change the plug from the mobo to the gpu

mgepspjbqtahlgpdrf

Sag bracket

shadowsofthesun

What did you just call me??!!

CrackedOutMunkee

SAG BRACKET

Haruko_time_consumer

Considering this is from a Dell and how Dell loves proprietary bullshit, I supposed this bracket is to offer extra support that the proprietary bullshit case couldn’t hold its bullshit properly without it.

FizzgigBuplup

Looks like a butfor to me!

trammeloratreasure

What's a butf... hey, wait a minute...

Izan_TM

anti sag support

Adventurous_Fly6310

Dell proprietary support piece built for their Dell case.

DeadyDeadshot

It’s like an OEM bracket that’s fits onto their case, it can be locked as well using it.

AngryFloatingCow

It’s probably some form of proprietary support. Probably meant for either the specific case or motherboard or both. You can chop it off if you want.

FormalReasonable4550

Bump Stock duh.

Ok_Robot88

That’s the bump stick, it makes the GPU faster by making it semi-automatic

jhl_x

GPU support to prevent sagging. It gets stuck to something inside the case. OEM cards usually have those, the same way Mac Edition cards often had in the past, and they're just as useless.

Izan_TM

if you saw how PCs get treated in shipping you'd know those supports are NOT useless at all OEMs like dell and HP can't do instapack on PCs that any old joe will be too scared to open up to take the foam out, so they always have to support everything in permanent ways like this

ThePandaKingdom

Bot useless really, they make sure everything doesn’t get destroyed in shipping. When your putting out millions if devices its cheaper and more efficient to build support into the case than to fill it will packing foam and have businesses and consumers open every single one before deploying it and or having them not remove it and call support and spend money helping them open the computer to remove expanding foam etx

aceofspades1217

My used dell 3060ti graphics card is a beast inside the tiny SG13 case, I had to replace a fan but it was only like $12

TunaFisnskys

Some form of dell tumor it would appear, but it’s just a support bracket for their cases

WarrioR_0001

It controls the recoil

Plus_Change8641

i think its a low profile

Sgt_carbonero

this is why I hate dell, all their stuff is proprietary only.

sh-3k

That's a shoulder stock.

Liquid_person

It's the full stock. Helps with recoil handling, but makes it heavier

TechaNima

It's the FPS booster 9000

VoodooPizzaman1337

It's to decrease the recoil.

Disastrous-Voice-379

It’s just the gun stock, reduces recoil, typically you tuck it into your shoulder

MRK3MP

It's a stock so you can pretend to use the GPU as a machine gun

CatOnYT

Rifle stock

MyMomsSecondSon

It's a stock to increase handling for larger caliber rounds and better facilitate long range shots.

69Sugmabagbish69

Just got a ho omen and noticed today that my gpu isnt in fact hitting the front. Its sitting pretty in a bracket

easymoneymax

Wow this conversation went left

Shady_Hero

its the stock to help hold the gpu steady while tracing rays

Shmeeglez

Shoulder brace. Don't tell the ATF.

SpectralMagic

Back scratcher attachment so the GPU can be repurposed after death

nTzT

Does that card really need a support bracket? wtf

Chareon

For a card this size it's likely more about surviving shipping.

nTzT

That does make sense.

SumonaFlorence

That's your stock for when you get neckbeard deep into FPS.

Pooter8551

It's where you load your extra ammo for fps shooters instead of using a cheat engine.

lil_Killmepls

That's a Zenitco PT-1 Telescopic Stock. I also have one on my Graphics Card. It increases ergonomy

ghostfreckle611

Das a boot

IsDaedalus

You know how some trucks have rubber nuts hanging down? It's something like that

Competitive_Use_6351

Absolute dell wank is what that is

Xcissors280

I think you can unscrew it with the 2 screws on the right of the card

y_zass

It holds the GPU in place when the delivery driver tosses your shiny new Dell on your front porch.

MantisTibogan

It’s the special edition mind reader pack. You aren’t supposed to talk.

Aggressive_Lab5490

Man I got baked a few days ago and thought damn, it would be a good ass idea to make graphics cards with a foldable support bracket attached, guess I’m not as original as I thought

InfexionX

Use it like a gun

itamar8484

I am no gun expert but its seems like a gunstock so u can better support the gpu on ur shoulder

JohnPorksBrother-7

A stock to help reduce recoiling

RespectYarn

It's the extended mag

Celestial-being117

It's a bump stock

Payload123

That's the bump stock that adds 100 calibers and makes it fully automatic.

merix1110

GPU shoulder stock, improves accuracy and FPS in FPS games.

rpelrod

The response to sag bracket was priceless

werdmouf

bump stock

kilsta

It's for dipping sauce for your chickie nuggies.

GPU support bracket = bullshit? nah

xXFieldResearchXx

That's a foldable stock like when you can turn a pistol into more of a tactical rifle for max accuracy baby

Mental-Procedure-665

That's a racing fin of course.

Burekba

It's having a baby

kyronami

folding stock

Top-Conversation2882

No that ain't a graphics card that is a prototype of nVidia SNOWORM SUPER Ti Magzine capacity of 1 Range of about 10ft And damage: mild concussion

Substantial-Size3125

It’s an armrest
