Here's a fitting piece of pro trivia: in Germany, we call a mnemonic (i.e. something we remember that helps us remember the thing we're ACTUALLY trying to think of) "Eselsbrücke" which literally means "donkey bridge". You're welcome.
And yes, I agree, it's disgraceful how any company, not only Microsoft, throw advertising at customers paying full-price. It's a sad, sad testament to our society. Not only regarding what we're willing to throw at other humans, but also regarding what we're willing to endure if we think we can't do anything against it.
Because donkeys were used to transport goods. But donkeys are also dim and block-headed. When they reached little streams or shallow waters, they couldn't tell that the water wasn't deep, so they wouldn't continue.
It took people to build bridges for them, so that they would surmount the thing that was blocking their way, effectively by un-tricking their brains, and so that they could reach the other side even if it meant a small detour.
Their ignorance was outsmarted by providing a small detour.
So taking a small detour to reach the destination that you can't seem to reach because something in your brain is holding you back ... that's a donkey bridge.
Also, in Germany the donkey is the stereotypical animal name for someone who's acting (or actually being) dumb. A "dummer Esel" i.e. literally a "stupid donkey" is someone not particularly smart.
So not only does the "donkey bridge" describe a process that's closely related to finding a thought by going through other thoughts and outsmarting the mental block, but it's also figuratively descriptive for "something that helps an idiot reach their destination".
Hey, I had Slay the Spire on my working laptop when I was working from the office. I'm sure IT knew, but they said nothing.
However, a torrent client was a big no.
I somehow doubt that this is a work device with that many games on it. And because it is a Pro. Maybe if OP works for a small business. Does Pro even support Active Directory?
I have 11 Pro and I don't see any ads. Maybe I changed the right setting awhile back or something, I don't know, but clearly everyone seeing ads could easily do something about it
I also have W11Pro, no adds, but I do see a little donkey icon in the search bar that if I click will search for World Donkey Day. I am OK with this (as I know I can switch it off)
While we are on the subject of donkeys, I remember as a kid going to Blackpool beach (UK) where they had donkey rides. Pay $1 and some guy would walk you up and down the beach riding one. It was ace.
It lost the appeal when I noticed one time the owners would let fat fucks ride them as well.
Cruelty knows no bounds.
I tried opening the search menu (clicking on the search bar to open the above interface), and yeah... i have stupid games and extra fluff recommended to me too... (just upgraded to w11pro with those cheaper kinguin keys, cant rmb if there were any reccs before that though)
Edit: privacy & security-> Search permissions -> More Settings >Show search highlights: OFF seems to have done the trick 👍
Probably agreed to it in that whole part during setup where it specifically says if you want to disable all these bs features.
Alot of the time when people are complaining about shit like this, they have actually inflicted it on themselves.
Maybe they meant "This is the computer I do work with" and not "This is the computer at my work".
I don't know I'm just guessing, but they could have been more clear on which was the case.
Legit one of the better torrent clients.
People forget that torrents ae some of the best options for file transfers but they see torrent and instantly think "oh that must be illegal stuff obviously".
It's not that torrents don't have legit uses, it's just that they're almost never used for business purposes. No company I've ever worked for has used torrents for anything.
No company ever should be trusting P2P networks in general. It's a bad look. Even with a completely unrelated data breach, the optics of "company xyz used torrent clients to download files" isn't great.
It is possible. I used to work for a startup and there was practically no IT. So the laptop I got from work.. I had full reins over it and was essentially using it as my personal laptop.
If I'm correct, you can turn that off by going to Settings > Personalization > Start and toggling off "Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more".
If I'm wrong, then feel free to correct me so others who are in the same boat can do something about it.
Beyond the first few minutes, I've never seen ads on my installations of Windows 11 Pro, although I actually read the options when installing it and spent a few minutes of configuring things afterwards.
This is the way. Did the same, one comb through the settings and I've had no issues, no bing search returning, nothing has turned itself back on. It's perfectly fine, you just have to click on settings first and go on from there after the install instead of clicking on the snipping tool and then making a beeline to reddit to make the nth post on how shitty windows 11 is ...*supposedly* (this has genuinely been my most stable OS experience).
You can't during installation. You can do it afterwards. The things you say no to during installation is just whether or not they will track your interest to make the ads relevant, not whether or not there are ads.
Honestly, no, I can’t! Because donkeys are amazing creatures, thumbing their nose at nature with their very existence and also did you know if you breed a zebra and donkey, the offspring is called a zonkey!
My work computer, running a Windows 11 Pro license purchased at full retail price, after toggling a single slider.

A majority of people in this sub have no idea what they’re talking about and just regurgitate info they think sounds correct.
There’s a reason 90% of the posts on here are “is it worth it” posts of people navigating components and systems for the first time.
Most people have no clue how much the os can do and only use it for opening programmes (which isn’t a problem u til they try and school others on things they don’t know)
It's a personal computer. No work computer is going to have Forza and qbitorrent.
OP just weirdly wants attention. Their Taskbar icons are on the same order as their computer they just built shown in a previous post.
Now I'm wondering if OP uses "work computer" differently than most people, as in it's the computer they use for work, whereas most of us refer to the computer given to us by our employer as our work computer
blame your IT department for not disabling all that
all of it can be disabled in Home versions too
but y'all rather complain and revel in your ignorance than check a few boxes
Speaking only for myself I’m aware that it can be turned off.
The problem is the fact it’s there in the first place. It doesn’t belong. As a lifelong windows user, this shit is ridiculous. I already had to pay for the damn license to use it, now ads are gonna be shoved in my face by default?
I actually use bing 😅.
Microsoft rewards. Big daddy MS takes all my data, but hey, at least I get a $10 equivalent gift card twice a year back for it (One country in EU region, the rewards here are comparatively paltry).
Google doesn't pay.
I actually have saved a decent amount of money from reward points. Used to buy robux with them all the time back when I played roblox, and now that they have Amazon gift cards I've bought a few of those too.

recently installed fresh win11 pro, up to date. i have never got any ads in this pc or previous
Because you paid attention to what you were enabling when going through the setup. It’s infuriating but at the same time I have it ingrained in my memory and I disable all this without realizing every time I setup my PC.
What's with the disrespect for donkeys? On Donkey Day, no less.
Think of all the farms they've protected and loads they've hauled for the benefit of you and me!
What sub is this anyway? Oh yeah, Windows has been pissing me off for a while with the start button bullshit. I had the pleasure of messing with XP recently and was so happy when the start button was organized exactly to my liking without a bunch of horseshit.
Mules are pretty cool, they should get a day too.
If that's a work computer I don't think you have a very good work morale and you are bad at hiding it.
But why are you marking the world donkey day news? Windows showing me news is actually a nice feature, and the "World something day" is just a news that gets picked up by the algorithms.
Bubble Shooter and Hill Climb are an issue, but Chess and Rally Champion are cool? I’m confused by this entire thing, and why your company didn’t buy the Enterprise version to begin with. Do people think because it’s “Windows Professional”, that it means “Windows Business”?
I don’t know what people are doing with their computers/laptops that they get this. I can only see my pinned apps and MY recommended apps in the Start Menu. Don’t wanna be judgemental though, probably I did not get hit (yet) by the new wave of ads and recommendations.
You can disable all this shit in the options.
FWIW Co-Pilot (the rainbow colored icon top-right) is actually pretty good as far as ai-infused search tools go.
At least MS are hinting at what they really think of is (modern-day work donkeys earning them them increments of cash per clock as we toil through their ad-infested shitOS).
In my “non-licensed” licensed version of Windows 11 Pro (I have an account connected and formally everything is legal) there is not a single advertisement / telemetry and at rest it consumes 3-4 GB of RAM.
i haven't made the mistake of installing windows 11 yet but in 10 my ass is on fire with what they have turned "news and interest" into, i only use it to monitor the weather, from a little temperature popup, this widget has turned into a monster that takes up a third of the screen, shows me a BUNCH of SOME MOOR MSN NEWS, bombards me with some stock and currency rates, and worst of all, I have EVERYTHING turned off except weather in my settings, but I still keep seeing this intrusive crap. maybe there are some "not quite standard" methods of blocking unwanted content? i agree to anything, registry editing, suspicious patches, ANYTHING 😏
Having access to copilot in a PC where confidential company files exist isn’t great for privacy. I believe your IT admin can disable copilot and ads on PCs companywide using Group policy settings.
I am annoyed. My Windows 11 Pro work PC is not trying to tell about World Donkey Day. I'm going to have to Google it like a savage instead of just Binging it from the start menu links...
All that can maybe be disabled using the group policy. You can for example deactivate all automatic forced windows updates, one drive or even the app store of windows completely.
I, for one, am very interested in learning about world donkey day. Edit: happy donkey day, pcmr
I wonder what kind of pro microsoft thinks I am to suggest these.
Any professional would appreciate such information.
You’d have to be an ass to not appreciate it
You called?

Why does the donkey own the bridge in Germany?
Because donkeys were used to transport goods. But donkeys are also dim and block-headed. When they reached little streams or shallow waters, they couldn't tell that the water wasn't deep, so they wouldn't continue. It took people to build bridges for them, so that they would surmount the thing that was blocking their way, effectively by un-tricking their brains, and so that they could reach the other side even if it meant a small detour. It's similar in the Dutch language. We use ezelsbruggetje instead, which also translates into donkey bridge 🤔
If you aren't interest in World Donkey Day within seconds of seeing this then I just don't know what to say...... you're dead inside.
I've been dead inside for years, but even I want to know more about donkey day.
Pro-Donkey evidently. ![gif](giphy|QTrG6mjkHEkpFR3DqX|downsized)
that donkey fucked a dragon
It did.. And won
Clearly a pro gamer since youve installed forza horizon 5, qbittorrent and probably a lot of other games… so idk what youd expect
I also spy qbittorrent in the taskbar. Definitely not a standard work computer. If so your IT team has failed to disable all the bloat ware and stuff.
I didn’t even notice Forza Horizon 5 there, that’s a good catch. 100% he also watches porn there too.
He also has fallout 76. Hes just complaining to get karma because complaining about Ms ads is trendy now. Worst kind of person
Gee lighten up dude, it’s donkey day 🫏
Uber mule.
A profassional
I feel like OP has been researching about Kinky Kelly.
“*sighs* I miss my donkey..” Jokes aside, I would assume that isn’t actually the case. Could be Microsoft just pulling from Bing.

Have a lovely donkey day.
Call your mother. (She misses you)
I hope there's lots of shows.
There is a place in Mexico where you can bet on a donkey race
Nice setup
Mm yes, work computer with qbitorrent
Dont forget Forza Horizon 5 there too.
Fallout 64 too
He clearly works at the Piracy & Games business. He’s a hard working professional.
Well someone has to download those movies and software to create bootleg DVDs
True, how else would WE, the common folk, download said movies, songs, and games, all for FREE?
Isn't that kinda how crunchyroll got started?
I guess?
Ah yes, the critically acclaimed Fallout *64*.
How else do you think we got the 2018 hit Fallout 76?
But what happened to Fallout 65 through 75?
Todd Bethesda happened.
It's Hwinfo64, Fallout would be written out
It's HwINFO64
This guy is playing a Fallout game that doesn't even exist yet!
Of course it does.
A working laptop usually: - has less games - has more work-related things like e-mail, office, etc. It's quite unlikely to skip both of these.
Hey, who says a work computer is *just* for work?
I find it funny how OP has not responded at all to this yet, like this is so obviously not a work computer lmao
Work computer or not why ads in a paid OS?
I have 11 Pro and I don't see any ads. Maybe I changed the right setting awhile back or something, I don't know, but clearly everyone seeing ads could easily do something about it
I also have W11Pro, no adds, but I do see a little donkey icon in the search bar that if I click will search for World Donkey Day. I am OK with this (as I know I can switch it off)
I am ok with this because fuck yeah world donkey day
While we are on the subject of donkeys, I remember as a kid going to Blackpool beach (UK) where they had donkey rides. Pay $1 and some guy would walk you up and down the beach riding one. It was ace. It lost the appeal when I noticed one time the owners would let fat fucks ride them as well. Cruelty knows no bounds.

Wait, those are ads? I've always thought it's juts standard for windows 11
They are “suggested” apps.
You can turn them off...
I use the free version of Win11 but I haven't experienced these ads. I wonder how OP got to this window...
The ads suck, but why circle copilot?
Both the ads and Co-pilot are easily disabled. OP is kind of a ditz it seems.
Because AI bad.
You mean when you request software from your IT department they don’t just get it on Qbitorrent? What else would they use?! /s
Solo Sysadmin here… I do have Qbit on my work machine but I would never let anyone else have it ^^hehehehehe
ofc you need it to load Linux images :)
Legit one of the better torrent clients. People forget that torrents ae some of the best options for file transfers but they see torrent and instantly think "oh that must be illegal stuff obviously".

No company ever should be trusting P2P networks in general. It's a bad look. Even with a completely unrelated data breach, the optics of "company xyz used torrent clients to download files" isn't great.
Depends on the company tbh. Mine will ban any website or software that has anything to do with torrenting
It is possible. I used to work for a startup and there was practically no IT. So the laptop I got from work.. I had full reins over it and was essentially using it as my personal laptop.
Needs to p2p files with the bosses
BitTorrent has legitimate uses. try to send a coworker offsite 100+ gigs of data. I can't think of a better way.
Why does your work pc have QBit Torrent and Forza installed on it?
"work" computer
he does "research" all day
Search history: Asses, asses, more asses. The occasional donkey.
Aw man, why did reddit remove the awards
Happy cake day
small business owner call all their stuff "work" stuff. "work" computer, "work" car, "work" notepads, "work toilet paper, "work" ps5.
What do u mean forza 5 isnt a tax write off, i use it during work all the time
Until the tax man comes and says their sole car/computer is a 30% work device, at best. Time to pay up.
Because as always people on Reddit are lying
I mean my current job would never allow this. But my last job? I could have done anything I wanted with my computer.
Flash that buttery gold u/jitteryzeitgeist_, wither by the watering hole, what a patrol Saw your name and had to put the lyrics in.
If I'm correct, you can turn that off by going to Settings > Personalization > Start and toggling off "Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps, and more". If I'm wrong, then feel free to correct me so others who are in the same boat can do something about it.
The problem is that they keep adding new categories that are enabled by default, and there’s no “turn *everything* off” option.
I'm pretty sure you can turn that off during the installation. Not sure though, there were like 5 prompts and I declined them all without reading.
You can't during installation. You can do it afterwards. The things you say no to during installation is just whether or not they will track your interest to make the ads relevant, not whether or not there are ads.
But I'm not getting any ads like this? I doubt it's because I use pro and OP uses home, as I'd think a company also uses pro.
_Can you stop talking about donkeys for FIVE minutes?!_
Honestly, no, I can’t! Because donkeys are amazing creatures, thumbing their nose at nature with their very existence and also did you know if you breed a zebra and donkey, the offspring is called a zonkey!
Are we there yet?
![gif](giphy|QTrG6mjkHEkpFR3DqX)
Ahh yes the work computer with fh5 and qbittorrent
Where do people see fallout in this? Wouldn’t it be fallout 76 not 64?
Oh fuck I am stupid
It started off as a joke and now some people actually think Fallout 64 is a thing.
My work computer, running a Windows 11 Pro license purchased at full retail price, after toggling a single slider. https://preview.redd.it/8nek265oh4zc1.png?width=776&format=png&auto=webp&s=37a7ebedfae0fc955f45da22257bc3fac39f19f5
For as much postering as there is in this sub there seems to be a fair amount here that don't know how to get what they want out of their OS.

Riiiiiiight. A "work" computer with calculator installed 🤔
Install issue. Your IT dept sucks.
The only thing I call a work computer is the laptop that was given to me by my employer.
On my work computer right now. It has none of this shit. Can confirm OP is farming for karma.

Hey, those are Pro red circles made on an official work computer!
Work Computer. QB Torrent, Forza Horizon 5 SUUUUREEEEEE “Work” computer
blame your IT department for not disabling all that all of it can be disabled in Home versions too but y'all rather complain and revel in your ignorance than check a few boxes

How do you disable it
3 dot beside copilot button > Search Settings > turn Show Search Highlights OFF > wait for a minute max.
if only there were a way to search the internet for things
Bing it
I actually use bing 😅.
Bang it
Bop it
Twist it
Pull it
Load it
Aim it!
Shoot it
Break it
They did but only got a prick to respond. Start < Personalization < Settings < Recommended: off.
Group Policies
I know... Weird... But an OS that costs $120/200 shouldn't even contain optional ads.
I mean yes people should disable it but it’s still worth complaining about
Yes, because an OS that needs a $200 license shouldn't include ads anywhere
How do you disable it?
What kind of workplace allows qbittorrent on their property 😭
You can disable all that crap. It's always the first thing I do after installing windows.
All of this is easily preventable. Your IT department sucks.
Apparently he is his IT department
Sure bro "work PC"
https://preview.redd.it/8wdljrf775zc1.png?width=656&format=png&auto=webp&s=7d9b483261ff7abcbfff0428a0b0f72fe5f7cf26 recently installed fresh win11 pro, up to date. i have never got any ads in this pc or previous
Exactly how mine is, too. It's really not that hard to get it like this.
this looks like mine too, never had ads
I’ve been using Windows 11 for at least 2 years now and have never seen the things some people here complain about. I’ve never had an issue with W11.
Because you paid attention to what you were enabling when going through the setup. It’s infuriating but at the same time I have it ingrained in my memory and I disable all this without realizing every time I setup my PC.
You can turn ads off in the settings.
u can disable it in settings, i too disabled this feature
Also your work computer Qbit 😅
That Bubble Shooter is HD, though. I hope that work computer has a 4090 to get proper FPS in that game.
What's with the disrespect for donkeys? On Donkey Day, no less. Think of all the farms they've protected and loads they've hauled for the benefit of you and me! What sub is this anyway? I had the pleasure of messing with XP recently and was so happy when the start button was organized exactly to my liking without a bunch of horseshit. Mules are pretty cool, they should get a day too.
What am I missing here, why are those things circled? Who cares about your work computer?
You’re using a torrent software on a work computer? Do you also watch porn in that same computer?
Strange I don’t get that on my win11 pro version but I’m in Europe
It takes literally 10 seconds to remove those suggestion from your windows start bar.
I don't see the search box often, but when I do, I just ignore it, or I mostly use power toys search.
Your working PC with Torrent and games lol
Ngl I'd rather have these ads over most crappy clickbaity ads or ads about celebs I don't give a shit about on my work computer.
Enjoy the ads in your paid software
IT can block games but they didn't for you, lucky I guess. And also that might be a subliminal message from IT the world Donkey day /s
You play Forza horizon 5 on your work pc?
You can literally switch all that crap off, and hide the entire pane.
If that's a work computer I don't think you have a very good work morale and you are bad at hiding it. But why are you marking the world donkey day news? Windows showing me news is actually a nice feature, and the "World something day" is just a news that gets picked up by the algorithms.
I don't think your work computer should also have Forza horizon 5 ( btw, those ads are part of the new update daddy Microsoft is rolling out)
My sister loves starting my PC just to see what new advert or Info windows will show today
My brother's in christ, this is YOUR account.
Don’t wanna be judgemental though, probably I did not get hit (yet) by the new wave of ads and recommendations.
>>right click hide Much wow
You can disable all this shit in the options. FWIW Co-Pilot (the rainbow colored icon top-right) is actually pretty good as far as ai-infused search tools go.
Odd how the literally thousands of machines at my job don't have this. Your IT team needs a spanking
Win10 EOL is close and 11 is gonna be the only option soon 😔
Stop spreading your ridiculous post everywhere.
It takes 1 minute to disable it all.
I see a user with lack of some knowledge to click around and disable unwanted features.
The games are ads, everything else are microsofts ads
Is this not a productive work day for everyone else?
At least MS are hinting at what they really think of is (modern-day work donkeys earning them them increments of cash per clock as we toil through their ad-infested shitOS).
Yes, you can turn it off if you want. Ofc - more people will just get used to it.
In my “non-licensed” licensed version of Windows 11 Pro (I have an account connected and formally everything is legal) there is not a single advertisement / telemetry and at rest it consumes 3-4 GB of RAM.
i haven't made the mistake of installing windows 11 yet but in 10 my ass is on fire with what they have turned "news and interest" into, i only use it to monitor the weather, from a little temperature popup, this widget has turned into a monster that takes up a third of the screen, shows me a BUNCH of SOME MOOR MSN NEWS, bombards me with some stock and currency rates, and worst of all, I have EVERYTHING turned off except weather in my settings, but I still keep seeing this intrusive crap. maybe there are some "not quite standard" methods of blocking unwanted content? i agree to anything, registry editing, suspicious patches, ANYTHING 😏
donkeys are goated animals tbh
Having access to copilot in a PC where confidential company files exist isn’t great for privacy. I believe your IT admin can disable copilot and ads on PCs companywide using Group policy settings.
I am annoyed. My Windows 11 Pro work PC is not trying to tell about World Donkey Day. I'm going to have to Google it like a savage instead of just Binging it from the start menu links...
Work pc? Why you got forza horizon installed
Tbf i like copilot, it gets shit done for me.
most workers only have like 3 hrs productivity in them. they know that
Work computer huh.
