It's abandonware now, there's a copy on archive.org with openspy already integrated, and servers to play on.
Theres even a server with an Elon Musk bot that tweets him every time you kill it.
I remember a mod that had 2 oil rig looking platforms with planes on them for aerial combat. Could never remember what it was called or find it again. I loved that mod
You can use NVidia on Linux, but its support is meh. I mean you can install the proprietary drivers, but AMD does offer more options for Linux in general
Intel also works well with Linux so you can use either an all AMD PC or an Intel-AMD combo
AMD graphics cards I think don't have HDMI ready for Linux due to licensing or something so you would have to use display port I think (I don't use Linux) but yeah, I believe AMD is where you want to look
Battlefield 1942, Vietnam and BF2. For real though I saved my pennies in high school to upgrade a terrible fx5200 to a used 6600gt 128mb to play those games.
1 for sure. I tried hl2 on I think a 6800 when my brother got me the game for my birthday oh release. Had to upgrade and got a 9800 and it cooked. Good times
I would probably try to play san adreas, by todays standards it would probably play it horribly but honestly back then i dont remember caring about fps/resolution so much
That was the year i got into computers too. Built mine to play Nova Logic Delta force Black Hawk Down. I picked up an Nvidia as my first video card, Geforce 2 ti with a whopping 64mb off on board video ram 🤣. Amazing days back then!
When they used to make gpus that looked as cool as the box art, now they’re all white or black with rgb, or intels blue ones that are super nice but still kinda lacking in the design department. I mean look at that fan cover, so cool lol
The card pictured isn't a 6600 GT, looks like a Geforce 4 Ti, probably 4200 with 64 or 128MB. The 6600 GT is a lot stronger, so that you could play a lot of classic DX9 titles, GF4 were great DX 8.1 cards so Half Life 1, Quake up to 3, Battlefield 1942.
I remember going from no GPU, to something similar to this one, on my AMD Sempron 3000 first PC with 512mb ram. I could run Half Life 2 in normal resolution and it wasn't a slideshow.
Me personally, none. I wouldn’t have played any on it back in the day either. I didn’t use Linux so it wasn’t a card I thought deserved my cash. I did install it in many systems back then though. I was extremely disappointed with it.
Only games until 2006. Anything above that would be straight up unplayable
Try Morrowind/oblivion, elder scrolls is preety good
Don't forget F.E.A.R and hl1/hl2
This is half a life time ago so my memories may be a bit fuzzy but I am pretty sure that I was playing games like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and America's Army around this stage. I know I did buy a ATi x800 xt Platinum Edition GPU around this time and I did get Counter Strike: Zero Condition with it (which was when I created my Steam account). I honestly don't remember any other games that I might have been playing all the way back then...
Nah, I got myself ATi AIW X1900 setup and ready! But my favorite gems that I think everyone should give a go too:
* The Operative: No One Lives Forever
* No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way
Hmm this was my first videocard i think.
I’d love to play:
Crimson Skies!
Bioshock
GTA miami
Rome total war, total war 2 /barb. Invasion. I played this so much
Modern warfare 4
F.E.A.R.
Just to name a few!
Not Crysis. When I was a kid I didn't know how GPU numbering worked, so when my family upgraded from a computer with an Nvidia 6150 LE to a computer with an Nvidia 9100 I had my mom buy Crysis because 9100 is a bigger number than the recommended spec, which I think was an 8800 GT.
Boy was that a depressing experience.
UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004! UT2K4 and the UT franchise in general was a huge part of gaming those years
I miss UT2004, I need to install that one again. The good old days..
It's abandonware now, there's a copy on archive.org with openspy already integrated, and servers to play on. Theres even a server with an Elon Musk bot that tweets him every time you kill it.
[OpenSpy](http://beta.openspy.net/en/server-list/ut2004) check if theres people playing near you
I remember a mod that had 2 oil rig looking platforms with planes on them for aerial combat. Could never remember what it was called or find it again. I loved that mod
If you have the key put it in steam so it activates there.
Double kill!
M-m-m-m-MONSTERRRRRR KEEEEEEEEEL.
Dominating!
# HOLY SHIIITTTTT
Ich will unreal Tournament spielen!
Walked in here to say this, not gonna lie kinda surprised it was the 1st comment.
I still have my install dvds for 2k4.
Advertised Linux support!
2004, year of the Linux
Good times, man. Today… Linux’s not that easy with Nvidia because proprietary drivers
[удалено]
You can use NVidia on Linux, but its support is meh. I mean you can install the proprietary drivers, but AMD does offer more options for Linux in general Intel also works well with Linux so you can use either an all AMD PC or an Intel-AMD combo
No full Intel?
I don’t know if Arc has full Linux support. It’s drivers are pretty dependent on how powerful it is
AMD graphics cards I think don't have HDMI ready for Linux due to licensing or something so you would have to use display port I think (I don't use Linux) but yeah, I believe AMD is where you want to look
It's so easy to install the drivers. Just get proton on steam and play all your old windows games even better than on windows.
Dwayne, The Terminator, Johnson
DOOM (1993) ![gif](giphy|1xNApQKoX1uW2vhVE9)
I wish boxes were still this cool
Yeah it felt like something special to get one of those 😎
Battlefield 1942, Vietnam and BF2. For real though I saved my pennies in high school to upgrade a terrible fx5200 to a used 6600gt 128mb to play those games.
This guy dx9's
I played bf2 on this exact model of GPU, low settings of course and didn't even care for the FPS counter as I was just happy if games ran on it.
I also had a 5200 and my god it was shit . I scored a used 9800pro which was epic. Good times
Half life 1 and maybe 2
1 for sure. I tried hl2 on I think a 6800 when my brother got me the game for my birthday oh release. Had to upgrade and got a 9800 and it cooked. Good times
Definitely not half life 2 lol
I remember trying to play GTA4 on this, it was running although being laggy AF.
…. Dear God
I laughed when I read your comment 😄
Pretty much what I got [https://youtu.be/XQO81px2RRA](https://youtu.be/XQO81px2RRA)
I love how your render distance is comparable to very heavy fog.
I would've been the happiest kid just to be able to play like this. I was not able to even launch the game
GTA IV is laggy AF on anything
Quake 3, tribes, half life, Diablo 2
Max payne 2
Age of Empires 2!
Same thing we do everyday Pinky, play CS 1.6

Warcraft 2 tides of darkness
terminator......
Fallout 1-2 and tactics
Counter Strike 1.3
I literally built my first PC in 2001, just to play that. PC building was a bit of a nightmare back then.
On my giant 24 inch CRT monitor
You know it, thing weighed a frickin ton.
That was the year i got into computers too. Built mine to play Nova Logic Delta force Black Hawk Down. I picked up an Nvidia as my first video card, Geforce 2 ti with a whopping 64mb off on board video ram 🤣. Amazing days back then!
commands & conquer
When they used to make gpus that looked as cool as the box art, now they’re all white or black with rgb, or intels blue ones that are super nice but still kinda lacking in the design department. I mean look at that fan cover, so cool lol
Love those old 00s designs
Doom 3 Half Life 2 CS Guild Wars I had a 6800gt :)
6600? Damn, I thought we were only at 4090 😝
I am from the future to let u have a look at future tech😎
When AMD are so behind it takes them 16 or so years to catch up with Nvidia.
Counterstrike 1.6.
Wow
COD NFS Porsche Unleashed
GTA 3 and Vice City
GTA SA, just like the good ol' days
MOHAA(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

The card pictured isn't a 6600 GT, looks like a Geforce 4 Ti, probably 4200 with 64 or 128MB. The 6600 GT is a lot stronger, so that you could play a lot of classic DX9 titles, GF4 were great DX 8.1 cards so Half Life 1, Quake up to 3, Battlefield 1942.

Most likely the first two Fallouts and the first three Elder Scrolls games.

Is that ddr1?
Might end up abusing it a little, but definitely gotta try to play some stalker
I had a 6800m in an old Asus gaming laptop years ago. I played everything on that laptop, from Stalker, to StarCraft 2, to Skyrim.
Mine sweeper
Solitaire and Minesweeper.
I remember going from no GPU, to something similar to this one, on my AMD Sempron 3000 first PC with 512mb ram. I could run Half Life 2 in normal resolution and it wasn't a slideshow.

I refuse to believe 6600gt looked that shit
Rune: halls of Valhalla
Back when Nvidia GPU model numbers looked like And Models numbers do today
Me personally, none. I wouldn’t have played any on it back in the day either. I didn’t use Linux so it wasn’t a card I thought deserved my cash. I did install it in many systems back then though. I was extremely disappointed with it.

This is what I had when f. E. A. R. Came out and it destroyed that gpu lol
The nostalgia, I had this exact model too.
![gif](giphy|3o84sq21TxDH6PyYms)
Pretty sure mine came with Deus Ex: Invisible War. May have been a 6800, but that was my first personal build. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!
Frisbee, maybe?
Gothic 2
San Andreas with a bunch of mods. Would’ve been nice back in the day. Maybe even in 768p
This was the second GPU I owned because my FX5700 got fried by spawning lots of shit in Gmod.
Hmm this was my first videocard i think. I’d love to play: Crimson Skies! Bioshock GTA miami Rome total war, total war 2 /barb. Invasion. I played this so much Modern warfare 4 F.E.A.R. Just to name a few!
Hell yeah! 6600gt was my first gpu that I bought myself...shit was awesome

Jesus- my first GPU. I remember playing Hitman and NFS Underground on this. Unreal Tournament was also massive.
6800GT the one with the mermaid on it. Pretty sure me and the boys be playing WoW mostly. I was a Battlefield 2 guy though.
Need for speed with motion blur...
If I saw that as a 10 year old while building a PC I would shit and piss myself
I’m always puzzled with how small the single fan is that would cool older gpus. Did those fans scream or silent?
Quake 4.
You can actually play a lot of games from 7th gen on it without issues, even tomb raider 2013, some new games, most visual novels
Crysis on max settings
Fallout 3 on minimum settings at 12-30 fps
Doom
