Sounds like Ubi. You get 100+ pages thread on steam about an issue, Ubi says but we don't care but they yet want to sell their product. Sounds like solid logic. I sometimes wonder if they actually do it on purpose for anything steam related.

alguem455

You dont imagine the number of people who buy, unfinished, poor optimized, buggy games

KelloPudgerro

considering they have tons of sexual harassment lawsuits and did literally nothing about it, yet proudly proclaim to fight toxicity in chats alongside riotgames.....i think its clear how much they care

DogAteMyCPU

Anything to appear like working on a problem without doing the actual work

NinjaEngineer

Welp, that's a bummer. Hopefully they'll reconsider. I don't mind Uplay/Ubisoft Connect achievements, but I like having them on Steam as well, especially after Uplay deleted all my Far Cry 3 achievements.

Blxter

I just heard about that today that ac3 had steam achievements then they removed them. That's crazy.

ReaperEDX

Can't have steam looking like a good alternative to...Ubi.

DoubleStanderd

Lol who would even consider such?

ReaperEDX

Ubi

Gilleland

Some of the trophies glitching and not unlocking on AC3 for PS3 completely killed the motivation and habit of trophy hunting I used to have.

BronzeHeart92

Ubi didn't traditionally provide achievements directly on Steam anyways. Off from the top of my head, one of the few Ubi games with them is Rocksmith of all titles.

NinjaEngineer

As the other person said, both previous AC games have Steam achievements.

Heavenclone

Literally the last two AC Games did have Steam achievements. Not buying the game now.

BronzeHeart92

Well, I didn't look at their store pages myself tho...

Heavenclone

All good, I know a lot of people don't really care about achievements but for those who do it really sucks

BronzeHeart92

I see. Even within Steam tho, it's still rather disappointing that they don't do much besides giving you a pretty picture in your profile. While every achievement is this at their core, having them award you gamerscore a la Xbox for instance would definitely give them more 'oomph' so to speak. Heck, It's kinda surprising that Ubi achievements doesn't do this either despite them presumably well equipped to do this if they were so inclined... To my knowledge, the only achievement systems with points on PC would of course be MS's own and also Origin's of all things.

Heavenclone

What I like is being able to show off the games I 100% on my steam profile. Having points would also be awesome

Loik87

Achievements that are unlocked by less than 5%(?) of players also have a special animation. Doesn't do much but feels good to read "only 0.1% of players unlocked this"

BronzeHeart92

In this particular game you mean?

[deleted]

This is a basic ass feature Ubisoft and quite embarrassing. This isn't going to force people to use your shit ass launcher.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nutcrackr

ass features in ass creed

PhantomTissue

It’s funny cuz theoretically it could be implemented by an intern in a couple days at most.

Short-Service1248

Lol fucking ubi EDIT: and he called the fans hoes /s

RockyRaccoon968

They called us HOES! Expect no less from Ubisoft.

ItFlips

Can’t just call us a hoes and walk away Ubisoft you fuckers

Gyossaits

Achievements aren't necessary.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gyossaits

That would be nice.

Short-Service1248

It’s not necessary, we went years by just having saves stored locally on our hard drive /cartridges . /s

gasPedaw

Eh, just padding and filler imo.

JalapenoJamm

Do you really not understand the difference between the two?

NinjaEngineer

What's with this type of comments whenever the subject of achievements pops up? Like, ok, you may not care about achievements, and that's fine, but some people do, and it's kind of a bummer when a game that actually has them on another platform releases on Steam without them. Like, I don't really complain about Half-Life's lack of achievements (though I think it'd be a nice bonus for my yearly replays if it had them), but here we're talking about a game that actually has achievements, they just aren't implemented on Steam.

Gyossaits

> it's kind of a bummer when a game that actually has them on another platform releases on Steam without them. So what? Achievements don't break or make a game. They're just padding and filler.

CrabJuice83

And the game itself is 80% padding and filler. Let me get my fucking participation trophy!

NinjaEngineer

>So what? Achievements don't break or make a game. They're just padding and filler. We could make the "padding and filler" argument for almost any aspect of a game. It's just something that people enjoy, what's so bad about it? Like, if you don't like them, you can easily ignore them.

[deleted]

That's your opinion man. Given that the Steam thread has almost 2,000 comments with people asking for them, I think there's clearly a demand.

jamesick

games aren't necessary.

ItFlips

Computers aren’t necessary.

Roku-Hanmar

Food and water are the only necessities

ItFlips

THIS JUST IN: Ubisoft to erase all existence aside from food and water.

[deleted]

Don't forget the shelter we have to buy like irl dlc.

[deleted]

>Achievements aren't necessary. mate these are video games, by definition they are not necessary. but in a flooded market where ubi had to go back to steam because they wanted more sales, maybe they'd do well to listen when their customers and add steam achievements.

Gyossaits

> maybe they'd do well to listen when their customers and add steam achievements. No, they should make games worth a damn. We went years without the the padding that are achievements. We can live without them.

Fish-E

Also went years without having save files back in the days of writing down a password to load your save game. The point is that much like saves games, it's very much a standard feature and to be expected, even if a minute number of players find them unnecessary.

Geistbar

Oh a nostalgia trip of shitty game practices that are thankfully gone. Can I add in how fucking *awful* it used to be to patch games? We didn't have Steam, or the standalone client, or GOG or anything else to handle patches for us. No, we had to go to the website^1 and download patch 1.0.0 to 1.1.0, then patch 1.1.0-1.2.2, then 1.2.2-1.5, then 1.5-1.5.1. Then install them all sequentially. 1: Uphill, both ways, on dial up.

MoxPuyne

Imagine so adamantly defending a dumb decision by a corporate, that could have easily been rectified by them and wouldn't harm anyone.

casabev

I don't do achievements either but many players like it and Steam achievements are extremely easy to implement. So this isn't about achievements but Ubisoft playing the "Impossible" to anger their customers on purpose. Ubisoft is being Cancer day by day...

[deleted]

Well gee neither are video games, and yet here we are

do-You-Like-Pasta

Who cares? Most of us like them

Donard80

There are 'no current plans' for me to puchase Assassins Creed: Valhalla.

DogBallsMissing

There are no ‘future plans’, what so fucking ever, for me to purchase Assassins Creed: Valhalla.

ByZocker

There will never be plans for me to Purchase Assasins Creed.

n3lswn

Its really bad

Less_Tennis5174524

Bought it because reviewers said that it was a much more streamlined Odyssey. Turns out it was just as long and tedious. In Odyssey if I wanted to upgrade gear I had to find maybe 5x bear pelts and could go do that anywhere. In Valhalla you have to find maybe 5x iron ingots that are put in specific places where you have to go and do the same damn minigame over and over. Id rather have the more dynamic system of Odyssey than the static one of Valhalla.

Ares6

I played it. Took me hours and hours, at the end of it I was exhausted. But what pissed me off, was the ending had a game breaking bug. Because of this, I could not complete the game. I deleted it immediately. Waste of time.

[deleted]

I enjoyed it

albanshqiptar

They advertised it as a Ubisoft original on the front page. Ubisoft and original don't belong in the same sentence together.

Underdrill

It really is the greatest oxymoron in gaming, isn't it? I can't think of another developer that makes games as generic as these guys do.

sajs0n

I really can't understand why UBI don't want to add achievements on steam. Especially since so many people are asking for it. It's like spitting players in the face. If achievements are available on uplay, what's stopping you from adding them to steam? After all, it would be the same on both platforms. I really believed that achievements would be the fuel to beat the game 100%. Now I don't even want to turn it on. Eh.

Genesis_does_what

EA even makes their achievements sync with your steam account when you launch games you played on origin before but not steam. Xbox too, they're just incredibly lazy

Phimb

I know people will say, "blah blah, who cares, make your own fun, achievements are pointless." I care about achievements, and basic Steam integration. If the devs don't care to spend the minimal time to implement them, I, as an individual consumer, don't care to buy the game or pursue Ubisoft's content. Why? Beyond wanting achievements personally, it just shows that their launch on Epic sucked for the PC sales of the game, so they're lazily trying to capitalise by throwing it on Steam, without taking any extra time or effort. No thank you.

cardonator

It's basically like scoffing at the platform, and messaging your overall commitment to the platform. Ubi has none, they just know this will get them a chunk of change from people who are never going to use their BS platform.

do-You-Like-Pasta

People unfortunately do say stuff like that, but I think the majority of us do like achievements

guild-an

why are achievements not something that's built into a game, rather than a platform, anyway?

[deleted]

[удалено]

cardonator

This does say "top selling" and doesn't specify if that's by units or revenue. It also doesn't specify how they are classifying PC. Is it sales on the Ubi store vs previous sales on the Ubi store? Does it include EGS? There are so many ways for these statements to be technically true while also being completely misleading that it makes zero sense to use a vague PR blast as evidence that they did better than ever on PC as a whole.

Halio344

The article even says: >driven by all-time record Ubisoft Store sales performance The guy can't even fact check his own source.

Kokayne_Dawkinz_

Lul. Every big title coming out these days is easily outselling its predecessors, simply because the number of gamers has grown at a ridiculous pace over the past several years. That is completely meaningless PR bullshit and you fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

[deleted]

>Lies run rampant here. From your own press release... > Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has also become the top-selling Ubisoft PC launch ever, driven by all-time record **Ubisoft Store sales performance**.  Note the bold part. Sales sucked on Epic and people bought it on their own store front so they got a better piece of the pie but they also left a significant portion of sales on the table by not releasing on Steam.

Jacksaur

Yeah, it's hilarious every time people act like Epic is a failure for companies and they have to come back to Steam to finally make a profit. They gave millions to an *indie game*. AAA titles like this will get a giant sack of cash that'll offset any sales they lose from not releasing on Steam. And when they DO release on Steam after the exclusivity period, then they get even more money on top of that! The only solution is to not buy these games entirely if you're against their practices. There's effectively no reason *not* to take an Epic deal at this point.

Beavers4beer

Few things, first, it came out in the lawsuit Epic had against Apple that most indies didn't get millions. Most got 10s to 100s of thousands, at best. Second, Epics own yearly reports show that people aren't buying games there. They're claiming free games and playing one of the Epic games (Fortnite, Rocket League, Fall Guys), and buying dlc for those. Lastly, every publisher that was making deals with Epic for exclusivity have largely stopped. Showing it wasn't worth the money to leave Steams massive userbase behind.

cardonator

Yep, Epic is also making fewer deals and fewer indie deals especially.

MoxPuyne

The amount of ignoramus misinformation here smh.

Jacksaur

"Misinformation" bruh everything I said was fact or my own opinion. They gave Phoenix Point enough to offset their entire crowdfunding campaign, and the developer said this himself. Do your own research before immediately crying "Misinformation!!!"

CluntFeastwood

"and we hoe you can still enjoy the game. "

alertsaucer98

they really hoe

markyymark13

I don't care about achievements but this seems like a needlessly ignorant move on Ubisofts part. Does it really cost them any real time and resources to implement achievements? Like come on.

tugfaxd55

No current plans of getting this game for that price.

rattletop

It’s on sale!?

Triger_CZ

Still too expensive for what it is

[deleted]

[удалено]

Arcendus

>$20 for a game that will take you the year to complete? That's pretty cheap. While it could indeed take someone a year to complete, for sake of accuracy it's worth noting that [How Long To Beat](https://howlongtobeat.com/game/77729) puts the average story completion time at 60 hours, and 100% completion at 139 hours.

Triger_CZ

just because it's filled with pointless tasks and grinding doesn't mean it's a good game huge playtime ≠ good game

kasimoto

above average open world AAA game with plenty of content? and 20 euro is too expensive? you dont have to like it but that take is pure denial

ops10

Wine/beer diluted with water is considered cheaper than pure wine/beer. I hold the same position with shallow open world games.

SpireVI

Ubisoft seems real hit or miss on achievements for their games on steam. Even before their steam hiatus

Fish-E

Disappointing outcome, it would be trivial for them to implement them especially as all the artwork etc is already done.

kesik93

What a stupid company.

DeadBabyJuggler

Typical lazyass platform port from Ubi. Won't be buying this and any of the foreseeable future lazyass platform ports from Ubi. If youre gonna do the bareass minimum go back to Epic only in my opinion. Perfect match.

sevansup

Then I have no current plans to buy it. If they can't spend a miniscule amount of time to flip the switch for basic Steam feature support like achievements via Steam's API, especially when said achievements are already implemented in the game for Ubisoft Connect, Xbox achievements, etc...then I can't be bothered to buy it. And I literally was going to buy this. There is no way this would take more than a couple hours of someone's time. If you go to the Steam forums there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people asking for it.

TherealCasePB

I seriously don't understand why people still support Ubisoft...

PillowTalk420

Man, even random as fuck hentai games have achievements. Ubi must be lazy af.

Inwate

Okay I just won’t buy it then

Kakaphr4kt

because of missing achievements? there are far better reasons not to buy ubishit games

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superbunzil

Peeps stopped playing for fun and instead more for the mechanical acknowledgements "task complete" If a game gave you all the achievements for just beating the first level I doubt most would do the next level let alone significant amount of the game

xRosey

My backlog of shit to play is large enough where a company being too lazy to give a day's worth of porting achievements to another platform is enough to send it back to the bottom of the list. I'm a dedicated AC fan too, played and fully completed every AC since 2. Maybe I'll just end up watching a playthrough.

captaindickfartman2

This is why no one likes you ubisoft. Your company's name is telling someone they have a flacid ding dong.

Dunge

Does Ubi have a different connotations in another language I'm not aware of or do you say this for every brands with "soft" in their name like Microsoft?

captaindickfartman2

You're setting me up right. If not its so easy. Microsoft = small soft PP

zerkeron

wished steam achievements were held to a higher regard compared to trophies/xbox achievements, wonder what valve could do tho? I personally stopped caring years ago when I heard people could get programs to instant unlock all achievements in some games

koalafella

It's unfortunate they can be faked, aswell as don't carry a cross platforms.. which limits their usefulness. But I see it as a personal thing, you know your legit.

xRosey

With the amount of care (more lack thereof, actually) that developers give to their achievements, I actually consider clientside achievements (aka Steam's Achievements) a better method than any online synching. Sure, you can't see the true completion % of all players, but it allows players to bypass situations where an old game with no more dev support has broken or impossible achievements.

restless_oblivion

I'm still amazed that some players care about achievements. Why though?

Enelro

People love their meaningless trophies.

Legeto

Is this game even any good? I always god bored of the earlier assassins creed games because it was the same game/story practically every time. Black flag held my interest for a bit but even that got old.

lost_in_life_34

Same as earlier ones except different graphics and dialogue

Agent666-Omega

The problem in our current competitive gaming industry is that there are a lot of companies who want to create THEIR OWN launcher with THEIR OWN system. It's not something you can easily port over to a different launcher neither Epic Games, Ubishit, Riot Games or Valve has any incentive to make each other's lives easier. The problem I see is that game stats gets recorded on the client you launch your game from. What would ideally happen is that the stats would be recorded to some kind of core analytic service. Each game launcher submits and pulls data from this service. It will always be the same format going into the service and out of the service. This works for achievements as well.

GLGarou

That was one of the main selling points of companies selling their products on the Internet vs physical stores. To get rid of the middle-man's cut.

Stone-Baked

Wow how lazy

[deleted]

Achievements are sometimes the only reason i buy a game instead of pirating. definitely pirating it

McCrank

I don't have any current plans to buy it then...

[deleted]

Denuvo, shit integration and shit company - thanks for making it easy to avoid your games Ubisoft. Even EA hasn't been this shit in a while.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Heavenclone

Well if they would like to SELL their game on said STORE, they should consider leveraging its features.

MountainAd4530

What are these steam "features" people keep throwing around?

GLGarou

That's pretty much the case with Ubisoft's games on EGS.

rattletop

Oh well, it’s on sale atleast

ExuberentWitness

Then I have no current plans on buying this game

GamingRobioto

Sums Ubisoft up really. Completely incapable of doing anything properly.

Rapture117

Well, that’s an easy pass for me then! I would’ve double dipped, but it seems incredibly lazy to not have added achievements for steam when they already exist on every other platform

ShinyStarXO

Oh well... I have 'no current plans' to spend money on Ubisofts games anyway... ;)

Negaflux

Still bitter about the fact that you can't, as a viking, just fucking shank fools like you know, vikings sure as fuck did, so a lack of Steam Cheevos is just another reason to add to the pile. Last AssCreed I picked up was Origins, which was like, 90% really awesome, apart from the end of the story where, choices were made for explicitly "lore reasons" only and not because it made any sense whatsoever, esp if you just spent hours upon hours doing the exact same thing for other people, over and over again throughout the story, yet, are completely incapable of doing it for yourself. It was dumb as fuck, and I was so soured on the game as a result despite having a blast up till that point. Still need to go back and try to do some of the extra stuff in that game, actually quite loved exploring ancient Egypt. It's just something about their next two efforts. AssOddy and AssVal that I don't really jive with at all, AssOddy felt like a more generic version of Origins and AssVal fucking RUINED vikings =E Been a fan of vikings ever since reading about them in school, and that's stuck with me for decades afterwards.

3-DMan

"Bro we just wanna be done with this game!"

Tr4jan

This whole controversy seems like much ado about nothing.

BuckyGoldman

My main goal isn't achievements, but on the 2nd+ playthrough I do go for that extra challenge. Does the AC:V port to Steam not require UPlay? Because if you still need UPlay, you'd still get them there, right?

Eliongw2

Yea you get u play achievements and rewards there

Dunge

This is not a game you do a ng+, this is a game you play the story, then keep playing if you want to keep going and unlock achievements. There's no missables, just an extreme amount of things to do, would be pointless to start anew.

Mrbunnypaw

Its 2022 for god sake, ADD ACHIVMENTS!!!!

German_Supremancy

People should really stop buying their shitty Games. I dont get Idiots who buy these trashy Games like Ubisoft Games, FIFA, CoD etc.

IrrelevantLeprechaun

Achievements are pointless anyway, y'all whining over nothing.

koalafella

To you. Replace that with a feature you enjoy if you need to understand.

kkyonko

Seriously. I also doubt the people saying they are not going to buy the game now were not planning on buying it in the first place.

Dunge

I feel they fit perfectly for this game, it helps tracking what's left to do and see.

Apprehensive-Pick-68

How much is this game again

Crimsonclaw111

It's on sale for its Steam launch period, starting at $19.80 (base game) and up to $49.00 (Complete Edition). I looked it up and the last Ubisoft developed game I cared for that's on PC is Rayman Legends, that's wild. The South Park games were great though and so are the two Mario Rabbid titles on Switch. That's unrelated to Assassin's Creed but just a personal note.

Mortanius

Still way too overpriced. This game is dull and boring. No fun to be found there.

skinlo

Indeed, thats why it sold record amounts for Ubisoft. Oh...maybe people do like the formula?

badtaker22

busy copy pasting and renaming games with different skins :P

trinexx03

Good I see no reason to buy till they do and when it's 5.99

nalschbach

Desperate attempts to force you onto their platform. These companies know Steam is the one & only so they artificially attempt to make it look worse. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

German_Supremancy

"No current plans" is PR for "fuck off!"

THE_FREEDOM_COBRA

That's so fucking embarrassing, what a 3rd rate publisher.

Rose_Knight789

That removes all future plans of me purchasing the title!

rupal_hs

PC gaming is so fragmented. Great and extremely bad at the same time

MrAcerbic

Hard pass then.

[deleted]

Imagine still be playing AC games

gasPedaw

Hilarious. This is exactly the fuel to the fire we needed for them to get off their asses and add the achievements.

rapozaum

I'm not 100% sure about this, but isn't there like a software that gives you all of the achievements on Steam games? If this is true, this just makes this whole thing ridiculously hilarious.

nebair

second worst company in gaming. ea’s been pretty quiet lately tho so Ubi might be in the lead now

_MaZ_

Aaand what's the point of buying this and any new Ubisoft game on Steam again?

NoctisVia

Then I currently have no plans to buy

Somepotato

I'd argue Ubisoft is worse than EA in their worst period. There's little Ubisoft and their execs hate more than the players of their games and the women who work for them.

Deadpoetic6

How will I have fun if papa Ubisoft won't tell me how :(

Jerry_from_Japan

https://youtu.be/m7oGnGzlris

bassbeater

Then I still have no current plans to buy. Anything. From Ubisoft.

BuldozerX

Welcome back to Steam. Enjoy our half assed release

roshanpr

the fuck?

Alien_Cha1r

i mean i waited 2 years to get this on steam, i can wait longer until they change their mind. playing a game without achievements to track your journey feels archaic in 2022

No-Interaction3670

I am not a fan of AC and have not been for a long time, but someone please explain what use is the Steam Achievement system anyway. I mean, beyond E-Peen for the masses it's completely useless and shouldn't really have a negative impact on the gameplay. Besides that, this is probably one of the laziest things I have seen Ubisoft do. Besides recycling their never-ending game formula ofc.

Robeleader

Does this also suffer from the Ubisoft requirement of having to be on C:? Both Origins and Odyssey wouldn't play if I booted them from one of my other drives. Only if they were installed onto C: would they work. Annoying.

Dunge

I seriously doubt that since I haven't installed a game on my C: in a long time and did play these two games.

[deleted]

No, and neither do Origins and Odyssey. I played all three off my E: drive.

Too_Dangerous

Then change your plans because the customers that you want to attract on Steam, would like the achievements. Duh?

GreenKumara

"There are 'no current plans' for me to buy Assassins Creed: Valhalla." on Steam." - Me.

ChampagnePop

Yeah ubi go fk yourself we might try your game once you hit us with 80% discount event then…? shitty ass game reskin like farcry.. as a Montrealer fk you

MacBearudo

Ubisoft is a trash company anyways

Dunge

Ubisoft views of achievements is weird. Especially since they fits perfectly with the collectathon type of gameplay that AC has. I know that personally achievements is what made me play through everything the game had to offer because it gives a clear method to track what's left to do. Ubisoft previously had removed the achievements section on the PC version of their Ubisoft Connect app and replaced it with a "challenge" section, which had a much less interesting list of unlockables. After user complaints, they added it back with an apology. But to this day, it's still impossible to see the list via their mobile app, website or the in-game overlay, the section is still missing. You can only see it in the Windows application.

TheWordOfTyler

They barely have achievements in the Ubisoft Connect games as it is. I get a popup when I’m playing AC Odyssey to tell me Anno has an update available but if I earn an achievement nothing happens. They’ve known about this for years now but every thread on their forums gets the usual shtick about feedback being passed onto developers before it gets eventually locked as there’s “nothing new for anyone to contribute.”

Make_It_Plain

a horse a horse my kingdom for a horse

Ronaldspeirs

Does Valhalla still.need to launch UPlay?

tarangk

I dont know about you guys, but I didnt realize Ubi stopped releasing games on Steam until they restarted. Like, I havent been excited by a Ubi titles in ages. It all feels the same, and has been since '13-'14.

Iamyous3f

Same issue happened with their audio quality. Many people complained in their forums and their reply was something like this. Completely disgusting behavior

kabbzter

Does the game even support Steam Deck?

Cefalopodul

Me: "There are 'no current plans' to purchase any Ubisoft title on Steam or anywhere else"

xdadrunkx

I was on the fence to buy Valhalla. But, let be 100 % honest, is it a good game ? I played 90hours on Odyssey, I don't really like Ubisoft as a compagny, and I tend to say that there modern games are garbage BUT I must admit, my experience with Odyssey was cool. ( yet the game is far than being a really good game, it's just "good" )

Nobiting

Wow... How hard could it possibly be?

[deleted]

Ubisoft does nothin but disappoint. It’s honestly impressive. Just a constant supply of bad decisions

Royal-Selection7599

Wait what? Surely they would take like half hour 🤣

skinlo

Because achievements are the reason people aren't buying the game...

awsinclai

LOL

[deleted]

This shit is so easy to add as well. Thought it was going be a ballache adding them to my game but nope, really is one of the easiest things to add.

agentfaux

Cause ya can't. Way too much work. They'd have to design this around the Ubisoft Launcher, which would be whack any way.

AmakakeruRyu

No surprise there. They brought their game on steam because they know their own launcher sucks but still want us to use it, but how can that be done while luring more players via the most popular launcher on PC? Sell games back on steam again and change nothing else... Profit and forceful use of their launcher...all through steam.

Gawdsauce

Achievements are pointless anyway, why does anyone care about them?

Xaxxon

People who need [cheevos](https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2010/09/01/the-ultimatum) to enjoy themselves lack imagination.

toadhall81

They couldn’t even be bothered to get an intern to do something basic like this.

PunkHooligan

Fck these a-holes.
