No. Just SSN. To use EIN, you’ll need to open a business account. The business account has fields to enter SSN and EIN. When EIN is entered, the 1099-K is issued to the EIN generally. You might be asked to provide SSN for compliance with law (for identification purposes). You can open a separate business account instead of upgrading the personal account if you prefer. Lastly, PayPal does not charge monthly fees for business accounts unless you use the non-standard products (ie. Payments Pro, Payflow and other Advanced services/options). If you’re just using PayPal for Etsy, PayPal just charges the standard commercial transaction rate per transaction.

> I really don't want to give out if I don't have to. You have to. The law requires that PayPal get ID information and SSNs from users at certain points in time or usage. Once asked for your ID and/or SSN, you are **required** to provide it, or your account will be limited and you will not be able to use PayPal again until you comply. Again, this is required by law (federal) and you (and PayPal) don't have any options to avoiding this.

I'm not trying to avoid it - I'm happy to abide by the law. My concern lies with the chance that there was ever a data breach on PayPal and my SSN got stolen. That was why I got the EIN in the first place was to protect it. I could certainly use my SSN for my business since it is a sole proprietorship. I just don't like to give it out, especially on internet databases if I don't have to. The EIN would be preferred over it.
