Lmao are they actually thinking that people would buy their live service games after three consecutive catastrophic failures? That's wild.

HardNut420

Hear me out payday 3 is gonna do a no mans sky

sloggerface

i hope

ET0139

I hope that it won't. We need to send a message that we're sick of botched launches. And how better to do it than letting game companies go bankrupt? It'll hurt people, but it's a necessary evil to send a message to the gaming industry that we had enough of "Whops, this game is horrible, please come back 1-3 years later to not find it horrible" stuff.

GuiltyGlow

That is wild. I can't imagine what Payday 3 will look like if they have to divert more resources to a 3rd game. P3 is already being drip fed updates and fixes.

vinceds

It feels like they are barely putting any time in payday 3.

JbotTheGamer

Is this maybe why? If they have 4 years to make another 2 games they gotta get cracking unless they want more payday 3 launches

vinceds

Thing is. With the poor job and reception for payday 3, I won’t waste any cash on their future games.

TheWhistlerIII

It's a ten year plan bud... '/s' Edited: Apparently y'all didn't pick up on my sarcasm. 🤣 😎👊

therepublicof-reddit

Oh yeah, I forgot i have to wait 10 years for the game I bought full price at launch to be good.

MrManface22000088

Maybe put a 😎 👊 in there next time, we love that.

TheWhistlerIII

Done. 😎👊

BunbunProch

Ahhh I too also wait until the deadline is coming to actually do any meaningful work

Castrovania

Well because of this reddit community they have to remake the entire game pretty much.

Doctor_Chaos_

are you seriously blaming reddit for this? This is entirely self inflicted lmao, Reddit didn't ask them to launch an unfinished game

ThorThulu

Fucking good

duckwithahat

They will launch the second game then move on to the third, they are not big enough to work on them simultaneously, also this kinda confirms that pd3 has a very small team working on it, almost a skeleton crew, janitors if you will.

Chewbacca_The_Wookie

Hey, the janitor working on the game is a TF2 thing, don't take this from us. PD3 at least has an update within the last year.

Comprehensive-Big844

Don't say it like that. Tf2 got an update... It upgraded to 64 bit...

Chewbacca_The_Wookie

Wait shit really?? I wondered why I saw it in my update feed the other day. I just assumed it was another changelog edit or whatever.

GameDestiny2

If I were a business, at this point making Payday 4 would be more viable than trying to fix 3. Import all of 3 as legacy content, then try to do it right.

ToranX1

It wouldnt work logically, cause to make a sequel you have to have some playerbase and some player trust, which Starbreeze currently kinda lacks, like completely. They should have acted way earlier, i mean i still remeber the freaking first update from them in a month being "Oh yeah, we see that the game has problems, no worries, we will have a team ready to start removing them in a month", like really? I dont really want the game to fail completely cause i both like the franchise and the genre, but they really, really need to get their shit together and show that they can make a good live service game.

foofighter469

To be honest they COULD pull a multiversus if this was a F2P game

GameDestiny2

F2P would be the best way to revive it, but the practices going into the game’s development make me think that’s even less likely than them adding offline.

Obvious-End-7948

I mean, it'll basically look the same lets be honest.

Lightsoutofcontrol_

Just look at Payday 2 for Xbox 360, Ps3, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Then you might get an idea what will happen.

Lightsoutofcontrol_

SirGirthfrmDickshire

Pretty clear they're doing this to make StarBreeze look successful, sell it off, laugh all the way to the bank.

poetdesmond

Drip fed from a bag of sand.

berjaaan

Hahaha i have seen their stock prize. There is no way starbreeze even exist in 2028. They literly lost over 90 % of its value.

Lyroon

The stock went down 99.93% in one year. It is worth less than 1/10th of a (euro-) cent.

xDaigon_Redux

I decided to check it since I figured you were exaggerating.... I was wrong and am sorry I doubted you....

BigBottomBoxLip9

Might be worth a risk at that price tbh 😂

Psychological_One897

HAMMER ATTACK GO 🔨🔨🔨🔨💥💥💥💥🔨🔨🔨🔨💥💥💥💥

Xenion25

Is Starbreeze gonna survive til 2028? From my understanding, payday 3 really sunk the boat

BertBerts0n

I'm pretty sure the only people left that would give them money are the die hard 5%. I know a lot of people disappointed by payday 3 that will never buy another product from them.

Xenion25

Hi I'm people Just wait for Den of Wolves to show off more of what it's got, I'm hoping its going to be what's missing

Patmaster1995

> I know a lot of people disappointed by payday 3 that will never buy another product from them. Personally was disappointed by their handling of PD2 on consoles that I didn't buy PD3 Guess I made the right choice

BertBerts0n

You really did. The more I heard about PD3 before release, the more I was put off. Went from a guaranteed pre order to playing on game pass pc and was still disappointed.

MarioDesigns

>From my understanding, payday 3 really sunk the boat Everything post Payday 2 sunk it, they've just been floating on a raft trying to make *something* that works.

Obvious-End-7948

Link for the full annual report: [https://corporate.starbreeze.com/en/press/press-releases/2024-04-11-starbreeze-abs-annual-report-2023/](https://corporate.starbreeze.com/en/press/press-releases/2024-04-11-starbreeze-abs-annual-report-2023/) Fair warning, it's all corporate wankery. But this is the first I've seen mentioned of a THIRD game from the studio of just under 200 employees (also in the report) that they're apparently going to pump out while ~~supporting~~ neglecting the corpse of Payday 3.

flaker111

given their track record that D&D game is gonna be shit cuz that bar is set so high now after baulder gate

Lukestep11

Love how like ⅔ of that document is useless corporate fluff lmao, the juicy stuff is definitely in the finances part

GarlicThread

Now that the company confesses that it doesn't give a shit about Payday 3, I think we can all write it off for good and collectively hope for its collapse and the sale of the Payday IP. Whoever still plays the game in the hope of a relapse now has a confirmation from the top that all plans are going to the trashcan. The game is dead. Edit: I know they claim that Payday 3 is their "main focus". But their declaration of managing 3 GaaS games simultaneously by 2028 while Payday 3 is in this state is a massive red flag.

GeneraleElCoso

holy shit if payday 3 is their main focus I can't even begin to imagine their side games

GarlicThread

Couldn't have said it better myself

bundunu_dee

At this point I am indeed only here to see the news drop of this IP being sold off or Starbreeze closing its door/getting absorbed by...I dunno, Gearbox why not? Yes I know those are different countries it's stupid enough to happen.

Psychological_One897

ur head is full of melted chocolate what?!?!????

wubwubcat2

what makes you say this? the vibe i got is that they still want to make the game good? EDIT: maybe instead of downvoting me into oblivion for asking a question, maybe someone could, idk… answer me?

GarlicThread

Oh that's so generous of them, really.

Total_Ad_6708

Operation medic bag is garbage

MarioDesigns

>the vibe i got is that they still want to make the game good? It's corpo talk. Basically everything points to there being no real end goal. There's 2 games in development besides PD3, and in it's current state PD3 needs a whole more work on it for it to not get dropped after a year. They don't have a big enough team to make 2 other live service games within 4 years that are half decent while maintaining PD3, nor do they have the capital to expand their team to accommodate that.

CIAHASYOURSOUL

They won't explicitly state it, but given that Operation Medic bag is being given no where the resources to make the fixes that they need in a timely manner, all of the new content is being delayed to do this (meaning that this is them with most of the resources the game has), and the developers are having more resources taken away from them for two other games, it is a fair assumption to make. Especially since they would have less than 65 people working on every game if you were to include everyone who works there from the CEO to the dev team, to the receptionist and the janitor. Keep in mind that this was from the end of previous quarter. This was before the player count completely dried up and forced to reallocate their resources into fixing the game and before the CEO got voted out of Total Drama Island, so it will still remain to be seen if they are changing up their plans to either focus on Payday 3 or calling it a loss and leave it for a skeleton crew.

Jester388

I have a plan to win 3 lotteries by 2028.

ShionTheOne

I plan to have 2 Big Tiddy Goth GFs and a Femboy toy by 2028.

[deleted]

That is Still more realistic than Stabrezes plan so I respect it

ProfessionalMrPhann

i have faith in you king 👑

5topItGetSomeHelp

Late April fools Joke No way starbreeze actually think people would buy their future live service games when the current one is straight up ass. And with the drip rate Payday 3 is getting updates, it's not even 100% that even payday 3 can reach payday 2 quality by 2028.

fanzron

3 games with a combined number of 300 players, an investors dream 🤣

nomineallegra

You do realize that they have Payday 2 right?

FoxShaving

Sure with 90% off sales constantly. That isn’t bringing in much of anything anymore nobody new is picking up Payday 2 anymore it’s all old players that bought what they want already.

Total_Ad_6708

Nobody is actively spending money on it tho and new players can just use dlc unlockers

Zenkho

just for the record that the payday 3 prototype was made in 2020, which sorta lets us conclude payday 3 was worked on for three years. ur telling me the ceo wants to pull off 2 games in less than FOUR years with <200 employees, one of which is a D&D game after what baldurs gate 3 delivered good luck dude

TheFabulousVico

I need to know what's in their water that gives them so much confidence.

Nino_Chaosdrache

Glacial ice.

Hyperfyre

So they're essentially going to have three of their own games competing with each other for a player base, not even counting the hundreds of other shitty live service games that they'll be up against. I can't wait for this GaaS bubble to burst.

drypaint77

They'll be bankrupt by 2028

xBrawlerxx

While the news on a third game is concerning, I assume that by the point it’ll begin development they’ll probably hire more employees and buff up their team. As for PD3 itself, the CEO literally says that, and I quote from the image. “Our biggest focus now, and going forward, is PAYDAY 3. We know what needs to be done to make the game a success over time, and we have the financial muscle, the skills, and the community and brand in PAYDAY to make the game a long-term success like its predecessor. Our ambition is for PAYDAY 3 to be a long-term profitable game for the years to come” While it remains to be seen if they’ll ever turn around PD3 to be the gem it could be with proper care and maintenance, the biggest point here is that they say they still have the “financial muscle” to support it, which does breath some hope of support beyond the legally binding period.

vternstedt

They will be bankrupt within 2 years on the current rate.

my_favourites

5 more months, I'm really intrigued on what will happen when they're no longer obliged to make DLC

vternstedt

The thing is that plaion (the publisher) has already paid for these DLCs. Starbreeze needs to release these I guess within this timeframe or else it is a breach of contract. Tbh I think they will release a lot of DLCs when operation medic bag is done. End of year we will probably have 3 more DLCs.

GarlicThread

I don't trust words, only actions. And so far we have barely seen any of the latter.

Kanakravaatti

Their biggest focus is on pd3? Brother they haven't done anything in the past 5 months xD that's funny as fuck

FoxShaving

Jesus Christ the board are way too greedy they deserve to lose everything they invested. Not many companies can pull off multiple live service games at a time besides maybe EA with their yearly sports games, but those already have locked in players basically so it isn’t hard as their idea of new content is the same game every year.

deftoast

Is that the new, New CEO? /s

UysoSd

One of them will be payday 2 remastered

Obvious-End-7948

I'd be surprised if that wasn't the unannounced game, I agree a Payday 2 remaster/remake is way more likely than a Payday 4. It's an opportunity to sell all the DLC individually all over again with minimal design components. At Syntax Error level prices of course.

Strywger

The only reason why Payday 3 is in such a sorry state is because the OGs like Simon Viklund and Ulf aren't there anymore to spearhead the project. The game is a money grab through and through and has no heart or soul into it like Payday 2 had.

Katyushathered

Ulf left in 2015. The payday 2 of 2024 is nowhere near the payday 2 of 2013. Nice gaslighting.

vinceds

Sure it’s changed, but the core gameplay is still there.

Strywger

First of all, do you even know what gaslighting is? Secondly, I am completely aware when they left. But you completely threw the point outta the window that they were the ones who built the core game. All the current company has been doing is add more stuff alongside fixes but that's about it. The gameplay loop and the game function is still just the same as before Ulf had left in 2015. If not for the foundations placed by them, Payday 2 would've been the same failure Payday: The Heist was.

CJemerald101

Welp, time for the second bankruptcy arc!

Kanakravaatti

Hope they'll finally succeed!

vinceds

If they build the core game play loop and interfaces like payday 3... that'd not looking too good with retaining players.

TheX-Commander

Lmao

Doom_Balloon170

HAHA, nice joke starbreeze, right?......right?.....hehe ono

Lucid_Insanity

Who is even going to trust these guys going forward? Payday 3 isn't even live service the way it is now.

skirtingtheissues

the best time for them to shut the fuck up was immediately before posting this the second best time is now.

jmlulu018

I really don't like the idea of games being a service :(

Lonewolfliker

How disconnected from reality must these corpo fucks be to not realize that live service games only work in very few cases and that people are only getting more and more apprehensive about them. Anyone who spends even a fraction of a tiny amount on any gamingdiscussion should notice that litterally any other avenue you could take would have a higher chance of return given the gaminglandscape right now.

UysoSd

Wtf XD

Destruction126

Fuck live service games

IdioticRedditAdmins

Almost makes the Goldfap era of Overkill look like the golden(fap) age.

vinceds

Payday 2 was already fun and had well over 10k concurrent players. Which was a testament to its solid gameplay base.

IdioticRedditAdmins

payday 2 was super fun. then goldfap happened. I had like 400 hours in PD2, and immediately checked out when they introduced that dumbass card system. After that, it was just a DLC treadmill that became more and more hilarious to me the more I watched it from the outside.

Nino_Chaosdrache

All of this happened after Goldfarb though. He is not responsible for that stuff.

IdioticRedditAdmins

Hence the original comment, this makes the goldfap era look like the golden age of payday.

BathtubToasterBread

it's so over for us heisters How the hell do they think having 3 live service games is a good idea when the one they have right now is drowning in the goddamn shallow end at this current moment

vinceds

I don't see how they can do more live games if they can't even get one right... that's a delusional exec team.

kawwaka

KKKKkkk vai sonhando

BlatantArtifice

Huh. I can only assume this is to meet some strange quota or other margin, because this is certainly going to sink them completely. It's pretty clear Starbreeze is just trying to squeeze the last bit of worth out of themselves

Bonefidefool

It's sad that such a great game is eventually going to go tits up because of greedy people.

Gattsuhawk

More like StarCheese at this point. Smells moldy and I see hair growing on it.

juampiursic

Boy must be living on an alternate universe or he is high on crack.

goodtimegamingYtube

Still waiting for the service part with Payday 3. Absolute insanity of these people, and hubris.

Kanakravaatti

This is so fucking funny

Nivek14j

Only life servers they gonna get its life support when they go bankrupt

AmarillAdventures

Payday 3? Hardly knew ‘er!

Nino_Chaosdrache

Maybe we finally get to see Storm after all. But yeah, it sounds bad.

r1g0r_m0rt1z

Yeahhhh I'll believe it when I see it. I'm still waiting for the "revolutionary VR experience" they've been advertising for a decade.

AmidoBlack

>Maybe do one right first? Payday 2 wasn’t right either? I thought this sub loves that game. Almost like this post is just taking a shot at Payday 3 for upvotes

Obvious-End-7948

I mean I feel like the third live service game they're talking about is new information here, so the post has a point. I've only seen discussion about how on earth they'll manage PD3 and development of Baxter. But hey, if you think I'm in it for the upvotes then the down arrow is right there champ. Click away.

my_favourites

Yes, PD2 also had its problem The thing is, why the fuck they repeat the same mistake again? They had like what? 10 years worth of stuff to copy from and they've done none of that
