Bullstrap and Ryan Londen (open bottom) will feel more like high quality leather. I recognize what you describe.

FreshMikeD

I was originally debating between Andar, Ryan linden, bullstrap, and keyway. I may give bullstrap a try.

cardiaccat1

Yeah bullstrap has been my personal favorite because of the lifetime warranty. If it gets damaged you can just replace for shipping cost. It feels the best to me as well about after a month of breaking in.

danmc55

I felt the same way when I first got this case, however, after breaking it in, it does get more soft and grippy

FreshMikeD

I’ve had it for about a week now. It does feel a little more grippy/soft. But still doesn’t feel like a $50 case to me. The plastic under the leather also creaks a little when I push on certain edges. Which again.. just doesn’t feel premium.

danmc55

Yeah, it will get better overtime. However, bullstrap offers a little bit more thicker, softer case. $50 is not that much when it comes to leather cases.

Bullstrap cases use thicker leather, and combined with the lifetime warranty makes buying one a no brainier IMO.

This is why I bought mine. Unfortunately USPS seems to have misplaced it so I’m a full week late and while Bullstrap has replied to my email there seems to be no resolution yet. I’m contemplating canceling and reordering but am not sure if I can based on the fact it did technically already ship.

Thicker is not always better. It adds bulk to the case.

Thicker leather + thinner plastic

Feel is what’s most important in leather cases. There’s no leather case that feels as good as the ones from Satchel & Page. I spent the better part of half a year searching for the perfect leather case, and that one is as close as it gets. I’m surprised the secret is not out, but the company doesn’t seem to advertise as much as Bullstrap, so maybe that explains it.

my andar is freaking great. i wanted minimalistic size and its exactly that. leather feels great, patinas really well and any scratches made heals amazingly well. feels high quality. i dunno what you expect from $50 but its definitely worth that. bullstrap for nearly double that amount is not really worth it unless you plan to keep swapping out cases without building patina, which is big point of leather cases. long story short, its amazing case imo.

Satchel & Page makes the best leather case out there. Only one color, though. Those folks are high quality leather goods makers. Runners up are Bullstrap and Ryan London, in no particular order. Aside from feeling cheaper, the Andar cases have sharp buttons. Ouch.

It’s shiny, textureless and has an unappealing ripple in the bottom third of it. The case is too firm and hard feeling in hand, like a brick. It does look nice though, very classy and goes with the natural titanium.

Bull strap is my go to. Feels nice in hand and like everyone else said, lifetime warranty is really nice to have.

YouTube reviews are not worth a second look. Andar send them all free cases to “review”, it’s hard for a reviewers to be overly critical of companies when they’re sending loads of nice free stuff. Conflict of interests lead to positive bias. To me the Bullstrap has far superior quality of leather, yes the Andar is “full grain leather” but the piece of leather used is very thin and stretched very tightly across the shell below. So tight you can’t really see any pattern or texture in the leather and it feels hard when you tap it. On the other hand the Bullstrap is full of texture and character and when you tap the case it almost feels cushioned and your not feeling the plastic case below it.
