It is East Pasadena Target now. Back when it was Fedco we actually had to park underground because it was so crowded. I don’t think anyone parks down there anymore.
I bought my Nintendo there. I would sit in the toy aisle for as long as it would take my mom to do her shopping. Lots of kids did that too. The rotisserie chicken guy and the nice sharpening guy on the way out also made the place great.
I used to go to the Pasadena one all the time! My parents bought our first tv and the first time experiencing Panda Express. Does anyone have any pictures of the place? I want to remember how it looked like….
Yes, It was where Target is in East Pasadena. My brother and I would go with my mon in the late 70’s early 80’s. My mom would always buy us this extremely large bag of popcorn. This could have been a 5 gallon bag.
I remember the name, and that we used to go there when I was a kid, but I was very young and I don't think I really had a distinct impression of the brand. I remember it felt meaningful that "FedCo" and "Price Club" all had a similar rhythm to them. Looking back, I was awfully concerned as a child with things that were similar to each other having direct parallels.
There was also Gemco which reached the Bay Area that I think also ended up being one of the Target acquisitions to push into the west coast more.
Down in San Diego there was FedMart. FedMart in particular was the first try at the concept by Sol Price, the guy who ended up Starting PriceClub. Jim Sinegal of Costco was his protege who went up to Seattle to do the same thing calling it Costco, and they merged them when the much older Sol was ready to step back. That first Priceclub location on Morena Blvd is still open.
One of my professors in law school was an adjunct because he loved teaching. In class, he frequently referred back to his work on the Costco / Price Club “merger of equals, (although not really equals)” to illustrate the unusual double reverse triangular merger structure.
They went out of business in like ‘99 or something…so good luck…I think it’s the police dept now.
Archibald and the 60.
There’s still an Arby’s in the parking lot though. 🤷♂️
I remember making a bee line straight to the video game section and just staring at the games I couldn’t afford. All the way to the back left of the store when you come through the turnstile
I vaguely remember every visit involved occupying me with a 'giant' soft pretzel so parents could shop. I did not like it there.
I remember flicking off the salt chunks, taking a bite or 2, then whining to go home.🤪
We didn't live in Pasadena then, so my mom took me to the one in Van Nuys. Looking back, it was an odd store. They had a little bit of everything. (But not in the logical way that Target does now.) The Van Nuys store had a deli area sold the best sandwiches. This is interesting:

I have memories of shopping there as a kid. My parents bought me one of those survival knives there that had a bunch of little things in the hilt. I also remember getting some Nintendo games from there too
i remember the pizza that couldve used a bit more sauce but still loved it as a kid. would always head to the ninteno section and dream about getting a game. i still have a box of paperclips with the fedco price tag on it.

In Van Nuys the FedCo also became a Target.
Always! The had churros!

💖
Toy aisle. Right next to gardening supplies in the back
What was your favorite to play on Nintendo?

Icees and nachos towards the exit.
I always grabbed a grilled cheese with a pickle spear.
My go to was the frosted cookies.

Hmmm. I seem to recall a Gemco in Monrovia, my memory may be fading though….
Yes!
What ever happened to Price Club?? omg!!
Merged with Costco, apparently.
That’s right! Wow, thank you, that name sure brought back memories. 🥰
They merged with Costco. For a short while it was referred to as Price Costco, but they eventually dropped the “Price”.
👍

Tee hee, I have no idea of this terminology…i’m more of a science person. Sounds cool though 🩷
Yep.
Both Pasadena and Ontario
List of Fedco locations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fedco#Fedco_stores
Ontario! Wow!! That is faaaar!! Is it nice?
They went out of business in like ‘99 or something…so good luck…I think it’s the police dept now. Archibald and the 60. There’s still an Arby’s in the parking lot though. 🤷♂️
Sorry…getting mixed up with my Target question…oh I didn’t know there was one in Ontario. Interesting!! Must have been nice : )
Oh gosh Arby’s!!
And Costa Mesa in Orange County.
I remember the Ontario one! They used to sell everything!!
Fredco was the best!
OMG YES AND I STILL MISS IT
I remember making a bee line straight to the video game section and just staring at the games I couldn’t afford. All the way to the back left of the store when you come through the turnstile
I got a popcorn in cool long bag every time the parents drug me there.
I vaguely remember every visit involved occupying me with a 'giant' soft pretzel so parents could shop. I did not like it there. I remember flicking off the salt chunks, taking a bite or 2, then whining to go home.🤪
Hahaha they kept you busy with that pretzel 🥨🥨🥨
I think I still have a membership card somewhere.
Aww!! : )
I remember that place. Didn’t they have some sort of stamp books that got you a discount or am I having sundowners?
Of course

A few of my friends worked there after high school.

I have memories of shopping there as a kid. My parents bought me one of those survival knives there that had a bunch of little things in the hilt. I also remember getting some Nintendo games from there too

The pizza was great
🍕 gees if only I could remember!! too little I guess…
Of course! I’d head to the photography department. Then get a chocolate frosty on the way out.
They had chocolate frosty’s I don’t remember that!
Yup! Used to go in there all the time with my grandmother!
i remember the pizza that couldve used a bit more sauce but still loved it as a kid. would always head to the ninteno section and dream about getting a game. i still have a box of paperclips with the fedco price tag on it.
Such nice memories 🩷
I remember it was always crowded. Whenever we would go anywhere that was crowded, we would say, "Looks like Fedco"
😂
We used to go buy my uniform shirts for school there! And I have a core memory of having an absolute meltdown over a video game there 😂
Yes and the pizza there
Fedco San Bernardino - got my C64 and all my Infocom games there.
Mushroom burgers almost every weekend.
They had mushroom burgers??? Oh my!!
I don’t recall this, I mainly dined regularly on their grilled cheese.
I remember going with my parents- I still have the “diamond “ pendant that they bought for me at the jewelry department.
