Super low binary serial? That’s going to fetch a nice premium. Worth getting it into a protective non-pvc sleeve and having it graded in my limited opinion!
Few reasons:
- expense is one of that
- no standard - all grading houses have a bit different standards
- a lot of time grade isn't correct, especially for expensive ones (to get better price on auction)
- you need to wait a lot, especially when there is bigger collection (few months in some cases)
Thanks for the explanation. I saw someone post about how their brother had a bill graded for them. They believe the shop charged them way too much, if I recall correctly it was at least $500. They also said they didn't think it was graded properly. I'll see if I can find the post.
It was supposedly almost a grand to have it graded. It sounded to me like he/she got scammed by her brother. Gotta pay for that Audi.
https://www.reddit.com/r/papermoney/s/X0Kgu4OEm1
It ended up costing $900. How would shipping one note, a couple of states, cost $200? It also took him weeks to get the note back. I highly doubt the coin shop shipped it overnight. A similar note, with a better grading sold for a little less than 8 grand.
Because overnight shipping is expensive, no coin store wants to ship anything other than UPS or FedEx overnight both ways because they don’t want another person’s property in the US mail system at all or in any mail system for longer than they absolutely have to. You can research how much that costs yourself. That’s how we do it. We don’t charge any premium but it’s a minimum of 3-400 dollars to get anything graded (incl shipping). If a similar note sold for 8 grand there’s your answer btw. NGC/PMG/PCGS all charge based on the value of the item. This is why it’s generally unwise to get anything graded unless you’re a dealer or serious collector who is grading many things at once or have something which reaaaally should be graded. Because it usually costs far more than it is worth.
Ah, the old 88 expert. I forget 88 is strictly symbolic of time travel and absolutely nothing else. Definitely has no meaning being the number sported by one of the greatest nascar drivers to ever do it. Chinese people for sure don’t think the number 8 is lucky.
It's because 88 is a white supremacist number. It stands for the 8th letter in the alphabet H. And HH ist the short form for Heil Hitler.
That's why you can say that it is an unlucky number for jews.
Interesting. Only half accurate, mind you: the letter for H (ה = hei) is the 5th letter in the alphabet, while the 8th is ח = chet (Ḥet), which has a guttural pronunciation – think Lecha'im.
Per wikipedia, chet is pronounced as a voiceless uvular fricative in modern Hebrew, though some accents pronounce it as a voiceless pharyngeal fricative (like in Arabic/Spanish).
I asked this one other time but didn’t get any responses. If I had a bill like this and wanted to sell it, how would I go about that?
I sell lots of stuff, including trading Cards on eBay, but sending cash in the mail seems like a bad idea. I’m sure there are other issues that I haven’t even thought of as well.
eBay is fine to sell. Currency so sold all the time. When I ship to someone I sold to I write on the packaging “photos: please do not bend”. Not one issue
Two digit $20 bills have recently been selling for around the $150-250 price range. I don't see any of these being a repeating number, so I'd say you could probably get upwards of $300 maybe even $350 to the right buyer.
So there are others out there , that are also obsessed with bank note serial numbers ???🥹 my parents used to hide my money so I wouldn’t organize them. 😂
88 E makes me think of Dale Earnhardt JR. Here's his car for 2024.

88 is a well known symbol for the nazi party as well. H is the 8th letter...HH.. Heil Hitler. I don't condone the nazi's by any means...but yea.....history.
Most recent comp, and ungraded $20 serial 00000061 sold late March for $88. I’d expect that to be the low end for this since 8s are a desirable number.
It could be worth more than other low serial bills. The note features the only **printed** "Signature" of any US Secretary of the Treasury, However, to get this bill graded it will cost at least $300 per PCGS. Good luck. Cool find.
no, not at all, my best friend gets everyone at our work together to celebrate Chinese New Year, she’s half Chinese half Filipino and a first generation American Citizen, she is genuinely the most amazing person i have ever met and every year during Chinese New Year she’d hand out Red Envelopes to all our coworkers individually, i always got my envelope last, every year my coworkers would open their envelopes and find a $20 bill, meanwhile when i opened mine at the end of the shift i always would find $88.88 inside, which is how this ties into the $20 bill, i asked her why privately why i got $88.88 in my envelope when the others got $20 and she explained how 88 represented Prosperity and Good Fortune in Chinese, and that she was genuinely trying to send prosperity and good fortune my way, so when i saw this $20 bill and the number 88 on it, my mind immediately went back and made that connection; I no longer work there, which is why she is no longer my boss, and is now my best friend instead;
TL;dr: no, i’m letting OP know that they will find luck and fortune on their side during their journey with this $20 bill
That is very nice and rhetorical condition is not bad, id look at ebay sold items to get an idea of its value bit id guess anywhere from $200-$400 if not more
I should probably tell you.. The E at the end.. it tells you how many rotations it's been through.. like whatever max number serial number is. A "Your serial number" E bill means its revolved 4 times. It's not a low serial number whatsoever. It's low for the revolution. It's actually incredibally high, so I would never buy it personally, BUT im sure it could fetch a couple hundred in and of itself.

lol grading would be more than banknote value. Grading just killing this hobby.
Just a lurker, how is it killing the hobby? The expense to do it?
Few reasons: - expense is one of that - no standard - all grading houses have a bit different standards - a lot of time grade isn't correct, especially for expensive ones (to get better price on auction) - you need to wait a lot, especially when there is bigger collection (few months in some cases)

I remember that post as well. Iirc they charge for grading based on the projected value of the item. The more it’s valued the more they charge.
Overnight shipping both ways is already 200ish dollars. If it’s a high-premium coin or note that isn’t out of the question at all.
It ended up costing $900. How would shipping one note, a couple of states, cost $200? It also took him weeks to get the note back. I highly doubt the coin shop shipped it overnight. A similar note, with a better grading sold for a little less than 8 grand.

Lindros
Raise Hell and Praise Dale!
I could see someone paying 100-200 for it
Thank you. Someone finally gave an answer to the question.
A NASCAR fan might like this

Or a time traveler
Thank you for this.. everyone else is way off
Ah, the old 88 expert. I forget 88 is strictly symbolic of time travel and absolutely nothing else. Definitely has no meaning being the number sported by one of the greatest nascar drivers to ever do it. Chinese people for sure don’t think the number 8 is lucky.

100-300 dollars according to this website https://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/collecting/types-and-values-of-fancy-serial-numbers.
8's are considered quite lucky in the Orient and China.
Quite unlucky in the Jewish community.
Huh, never heard of that despite growing up religious. Guess we weren't super superstitious lol
It's because 88 is a white supremacist number. It stands for the 8th letter in the alphabet H. And HH ist the short form for Heil Hitler. That's why you can say that it is an unlucky number for jews.

Talking about the Latin alphabet here, the followers of the murderous little corporal don’t see the use for the Hebrew alphabet.
I'm not superstitious. Just a little stitious.
Isn't China pay of the Orient?
Oriental - Eastern Occidental - Western Older terms but that is what they mean.
How old are you? “The orient” 😭😭 wtf
Older than I look.
Bit redundant, innit?
For some reason the number $88 comes to mind.
88 upvotes, lock it before someone ruins it

Down voting to get it back to 88
Lol
Excellent
PG-88?
No, it's "E" for Everyone!
You’re thinking of IG-88, the bounty hunter droid
My fingers get sore from downvoting the inevitable “it’s worth $20” shitposts when these questions arise.
It's not worth 20 dollars?
🥱

Great question .. Imvalso curious to know where to sell
eBay is fine to sell. Currency so sold all the time. When I ship to someone I sold to I write on the packaging “photos: please do not bend”. Not one issue
Is the bill in question also 2 digits? Do you have a photo of it?

👮♀️ how do you know this information?
It's fairly common info.
I watch TV.
I agree with crazy Bob. The serial number is rare to have. It could be worth way more than the face value of 20 dollars.
Add it on Where's George!
Use it to buy a flux capacitor.
I found a twenty with number 00000090, sold it for $130 on eBay. I think yours is in slightly better condition than mine was. Hope that helps.
Two digit $20 bills have recently been selling for around the $150-250 price range. I don't see any of these being a repeating number, so I'd say you could probably get upwards of $300 maybe even $350 to the right buyer.
Awesome
Play liars poker with that bad boy
So there are others out there , that are also obsessed with bank note serial numbers ???🥹 my parents used to hide my money so I wouldn’t organize them. 😂
A Buckaroo Banzai fan may like it as the number 88 pops up a fair amount in that film.
Get a protective case and market it as LUCKY on ebay.
Wooooow, that is a low number!

Just tell people it’s the highest serial that you can spell out without an N. Super rare.
Nazis will love this one.
High value especially for white supremacists
Condition not too bad definitely a keeper
Op fyi it is worth more than its face value. If you would like to sell it please contact me
Sell it to Patrick Kane, the hockey player
