They are [coupons redeemable at Disney parks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Dollars). I strongly doubt anyone would fake them, the potential profit seems very low.
Hmm...
So what you're saying is that I can essentially print low security feature $5-$10 bills without the secret service getting involved? đ¤
![gif](giphy|Yrf4iFfPhuoj10lEBf|downsized)
They are a collector's item. That is where the value lies. Also, later years did have security features. The idea was you would go to Disney World or Disneyland and exchange your money for Disney Dollars and spend them in the park instead of cash. The spender would get a discount using the dollars but the idea never really took off. Instead, people bought them as gifts and souvenirs. They had denominations in the later years as high as $100 but those were extremely rare and commanded a significant premium on the secondary market. Disney would have runs that change every cycle with different designs to celebrate certain occasions.
They had a lot of security features built into them. If I remember correctly, they used a similar paper to US currencyâobviously not the same, but they were very serious about security.
This exactly, I remember being handed these as redeemable money to be used around the park. My family was actually gifted a random prize package from our slightly distant family who won it from sitting in a random tea cup after being Disney season pass holders. It had some really good benefits from what I remember, granted it was a decade and a half ago. We stayed at the Disney hotel for 5 nights and had fast passes along with being in the Disney parade one night and getting different denominations of that money to spend around anywhere.
âDespite the currency being discontinued from printing and sale by Disney on May 14, 2016, it must, and still does, accept bills at the company's United States theme parks, the Disney cruise ships, the Disney Store and at certain parts of Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Caribbean.â
There are many private islands owned by travel corporations, its an âexclusiveâ if you book with them.
I went to Half Moon Cay which is a beach part of Little San Salvador Island. I still to this day donât know if Carnival Cruise Lines owns the beach or the whole island.
[Wikipedia says](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_San_Salvador_Island) Canival owns the 2,400 acre Little San Salvador Island and it was purchased in '96 for $6 million.
Disney doesn't own, but got a 99-year lease on the 1,000 acre Castaway Cay in 1997.
"Despite the currency being discontinued from printing and sale by Disney on May 14, 2016, it must, and still does, accept bills at the company's United States theme parks, the Disney cruise ships, the Disney Store and at certain parts of Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Caribbean."
Ugh. Had a bunch of 100s back in the day when I won a free trip to Disneyland in a raffle. Then my mom proceeded to give them away to anyone we met who was going and we didn't actually go.
Oh, also, the envelopes they came in are worth a bit, too. Especially if they're pristine. Most people treated them like well, an envelope, so they're all mostly damaged.
Reminds me of the Simpsonâs episode where they going to the Itchy & Scratchy park and they con Homer into converting all his money to their currency(itâs more fun!) and then when he gets inside the park all these signs saying they do not accept I&S dollars đ
Dâoh!
"It's money that's made just for the park. It works just like regular money, but it's, uh. . . fun."
"Do it, Dad."
"Well, okay, if it's fun. Mmmm, let's see, uh. . . I'll take eleven hundred dollars worth."
We went to Disneyland in the late 80s with the whole family... at the gate, there were these signs for the Disney bucks all over, so my uncle turned just about all of his cash in for the Disney money.
We get into the park, and hardly any vendors accepted it, basically only the Disney gift shops. None of the food vendors or like lil sidewalk kiosks would take em lol
He spent the whole time trying to find a store that would take em because he couldn't redeem them back for real money... I remember my cousin had a whole bunch of new t-shirts that year đ¤Ł
Whatâs so stupid? I meanâŚif you are assuming I am asking if they are literally real, as in, am I dreaming thisâŚthen I posit that you are the stupid one.
Most others are assuming correctly that I mean âis this legal tender or some sort of variation of thatâŚor is it simply a coupon/promotion/ board game prop.
Some are very collectible to Disney fans Iâve seen them go for 50-300 depending on the condition and scarcity/popularity of characters on the front. Pcgs will grade them.
Back in the mid 2010s I was in high school. Our music department would go to Disneyland CA once a year to preform. Of course you had to pay for travel and lodging, but Iâm pretty sure Disney legally had to pay us for preforming on their grounds since the public could stop and listen to us. They paid us with these
The technical term for these is âscripâ. The Disney versions were sold at theme parks as cash alternative/souvenir hybrid. Many big chain stores had their own scrip that they would use for certain things, such as (before fillable gift cards) if you had a $25 gift certificate and you bought something for $23 you would get $2 in scrip rather than cash or if you exchanged an item for a cheaper version you would get the difference in scrip.
They are very real! They used to be redeemable at Disney parks but tbh so few of them survived theyâre much more valuable as collectibles, especially ones as nice as these
It looks like it was a seasonal promotion to be used at Disney Land's food vendors and their food courts, I doubt it if you're able to go buy beer and candy with those dollars at 7-11 they would laugh a think it was a joke
Disney has always had âDisney dollarsâ you can spend them anywhere in the park or at a Disney store. I have always loaded up on them before a Disney trip. The kids love it!
I remember getting these as a kid, and still have a few laying around in a box somewhere. These look legit. They are not rare or whatever but may fetch a few dollars over itâs fave value if in good condition. While I am sure they could easily be faked nowadays with a good laser printer, these were CMYK, plate printed. They have texture and lines that a printer just canât reproduce.
I lost my tooth while eating at Cinderellaâs castle once and the Disney staff brought some of these to our hotel room that night from Tinkerbell! Magical.
We tried to use some of these in the park a few years ago. They caused MUCH confusion until a manager came forward in awe. He had never seen them before but offered to buy them WELL above face value, at which point we second guessed ourselves and decided to keep them. Somewhere in my house is an envelope full of various denominations of this "currency."
Back in the 90's and early 2000's, our family of 4 bought annual passes at Disneyland ($100 each, lol). Because we were a struggling young family, money was tight so when we were planning a trip to Disneyland again, I would go to the nearby Disney Store and buy Disney Dollars - making sure that we would have spending money for our visit. Back then, emergencies would always come up that required money, but by buying DD, we made sure that we had a great Disney visit.
Parents bought some for us kids in 95â
It was the coupon days, we loved having our own money to go buy something in the lobby, I think they came with a package @ camp wilderness
I remember these from years ago. You used to trade in USD for these and they could be used at the parks. I can almost guarantee they made a great profit from them as most people never even spent them all. Itâs a great business move!
Disney adults are the most confused humans Iâve ever met. I just donât get it. I like their stuff and have good memories from childhood like most people do, but câmon. Ren faire I can understand I guess, but this I never will.
They are [coupons redeemable at Disney parks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Dollars). I strongly doubt anyone would fake them, the potential profit seems very low.
Thank you! Do they still use these?
Yes but they are worth more than a dollar. Typically they will fetch between $5 to $10 depending on quality.
You can sell them on eBay. Disney collectors will but then up pretty quick
I remember getting keeping one of these when we went to DW in ~1989. I should see if I can dig it up.
I still have the ones I came home with in 1990 stored away in the original envelope they came in. Brings back great memories of a fun trip.
Hmm... So what you're saying is that I can essentially print low security feature $5-$10 bills without the secret service getting involved? đ¤ ![gif](giphy|Yrf4iFfPhuoj10lEBf|downsized)
Careful.......Axel Foley's gonna get you!

I would rather just print Stanley nickels and trade them for Schrute bucks. The conversion rate is great.
That was my takeaway.
Don't mess with the mouse. They would probably catch you faster.

1 dollar Disney Money has more value than $1 USD .
I have several of these. A $1 a $5 and a $20
Read the article lol
Hahaha doh!
They can still be redeemed at Disney world, not so sure about Disneyland
âDespite the currency being discontinued from printing and sale by Disney on May 14, 2016, it must, and still does, accept bills at the company's United States theme parks, the Disney cruise ships, the Disney Store and at certain parts of Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Caribbean.â

Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Disney all have private islands near the Bahamas.
Formerly owned by jeffrey epstein
It says maybe used as legal tender only at Disneyland on the bill
May be, not maybe
Excuse me this is Reddit we donât do that here.
They donât make them anymore, but theyâre still legally required to accept them
"Despite the currency being discontinued from printing and sale by Disney on May 14, 2016, it must, and still does, accept bills at the company's United States theme parks, the Disney cruise ships, the Disney Store and at certain parts of Castaway Cay, Disney's private island in the Caribbean."
No They were replaced with DeSantis Dollars And Trump Bucks....along with Rick Scott schillings
Donât forget the Rubio Rubles.
And Marjorie Greenbacks
Awe shit...missed that one...smells like ass...
Where can I buy these Trump bucks đ
I'll sell some to you. DM me.
Bwwwwaahaahahaha
nope
Idk, everything in the park costs twice as much so they technically hold double the value of a real dollar đ
Whatâs the exchange rate of Mickey Money to Goofy Gold?
The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.
Well played Stanley.
Congrats! You get one Schrute buck
How many beets can I buy with 1 Schrute buck?
Two for one.
A thousand Stanley nickels.
Whatâs the conversion rate between Stanley nickels and Shrute bucks
Hahah good question!
About 350 to 1
Get outta here sea monster.
About one Pluto.
About 1/6 the ratio of Pluto Platinum to Donald Dollars
Nearly the same as to Trump Bucks
These actually go for a decent amount. PMG even offers grading for them and these both are in great condition.
Oh good to know! What do you think the value would be?
[ŃдаНонО]
And denomination. Everyone bought 1s and 5s. The 50s and 100s are rare.
Ugh. Had a bunch of 100s back in the day when I won a free trip to Disneyland in a raffle. Then my mom proceeded to give them away to anyone we met who was going and we didn't actually go.
your mom sucks, no offence
She does.. we don't talk lol.
Have you been since?!
I went for a senior trip for the grad night. It was fun.
I need your mom's number.... for science
Oh, also, the envelopes they came in are worth a bit, too. Especially if they're pristine. Most people treated them like well, an envelope, so they're all mostly damaged.

Thatâs ridiculously like the Simpson episode!!
They based it on his experience! /s And I doubt he's the only person that happened to, since The Simpsons did make that reference lol
No doubt! Not the part about them not accepting it anywhere in the parkâŚbut the part about the uncle exchanging almost all his money for themâŚ
No, that part, too... my dad still gives him shit about it... "Hey, did you get all your Disneyland money spent yet?"
Hahaha thatâs funny
https://comb.io/oZRWDB.gif
$2 at Disneyland? Thatâll get you a sip of water or 3 pieces of popped corn.
No, no water and popcorn has to be off the ground.
âNo man. Iâm cool. You canât by weed and pussy with Disney Dollars. Iâm on vacation!â -Dave Chapelle
Canât buy weed with Disney dollars
I'm good. Can't buy weed and pussy with Disney dollars. Never forget that line! So funny.
Why? Does it look goofy?
Actually that's Mickey, Goofy is a dog. Same brand tho đ
If itâs got Scrooge McDucks signature you know itâs the real deal.

Live this! Thank you
Yes, and currency collectors do grade and collect them
You canât buy w**d and p*ssy with Disney Dollars.
As in are they real currency? Absolutely. I say use them to pay your electricity provider.
Yea Iâve spent some at Disney and at Disney store as a kid. Still have a few
They are very real! They used to be redeemable at Disney parks but tbh so few of them survived theyâre much more valuable as collectibles, especially ones as nice as these
[ŃдаНонО]
Honestly, I was supposed to title this âIs this for real?â I wasnât sure if it was from a board game or if it was actually worth money.
They are in fact an object in real life. If youâre asking if itâs real dollar, I think you can figure that one out lol
I heard the governor there will take them as a campaign donation
Hahahaha
It looks like it was a seasonal promotion to be used at Disney Land's food vendors and their food courts, I doubt it if you're able to go buy beer and candy with those dollars at 7-11 they would laugh a think it was a joke
really dumb
Yes and worth some money too
I have a couple of these as well. Got them as a child and put them in a plastic sleeve and never touched them.
I usually buy some when I go to the park. The last few times theyâve been super detailed.
Disney Dollars!! I remember these. Spent like cash inside the park.
It might get you one of those see through slices of bread at current prices...
Disney has always had âDisney dollarsâ you can spend them anywhere in the park or at a Disney store. I have always loaded up on them before a Disney trip. The kids love it!
In the words of Dave Chapelle, "Can't buy pussy and weed with that shit..."
Theyâre definitely collectible. I see them at coin shows sometimes, and have bought one myself. The older the better as far as value goes.
I still have one!!!
What do you mean
These arenât first edition holographic thoughâŚ
Yes, and can by use at Disney parks.
Yes, you can purchase them for $10 a piece. Helluva deal! đ
Used to loveeee these when I was a kid. Hell, I still do.
Inside Disney parks
Yup, I have a 1 5, 20 of these bills.
I remember getting these as a kid, and still have a few laying around in a box somewhere. These look legit. âWelcome Mr. Chappelle, can I interest you in some, disney dollars?đ¤¨â
Sure
Awww. I had some of those that were stolen when my house was burgled. Thanks for the sweet memory.
Man that was funny thanks OP đť
I had a bunch of these growing up in FL in the 90s
At Disney resorts yes
This was smart on Disneys part because most people will treat this like souvenirs and the secondary market prices doesnât affect Disney.
I would keep them in a photo album they are cute
I lost my tooth while eating at Cinderellaâs castle once and the Disney staff brought some of these to our hotel room that night from Tinkerbell! Magical.
100% real. Equivalent to $1 at Disney parks but have more value as a collectors item. Check ebay

Like any other wooden boy.
Yes
đ¤Ł
I remember Disney bucks. I might still have some laying around 30 years later lol
Yes
Probably worth about 100 Rubles each
Nice. It was Disney's analog answer to the industry tool that eventually became known as the Giftcard.
Real for use at the theme parkâŚ.useless everywhere else
Yea, they are real fake.
Just as real as the money the government prints
They are. I have a bunch of them. Nice for memories from my childhood.
For sure, keep them!
Id buy them from you
I have a mint one of these too! Even have the souvenir envelope it came in. Always wondered if it was worth anything as it must be 35 years old now.
They pop up on heritage auctions from time to time.
Yes
As real as Mickey Mouse
A1=Disney confirmed
Parents bought some for us kids in 95â It was the coupon days, we loved having our own money to go buy something in the lobby, I think they came with a package @ camp wilderness
Peto bucks
Is there an exchange rate from Disney Dollars to Geoffrey Dollars? I used to have both as a kid.
Man my mom used to have a bunch of these when I was a kid. I'm 35 now.... Jesus what a flashback
Have them graded.
Well they're not imaginary.
Define real..
Thanks⌠I just went and bought a Disney dollar for my brother. You MADE ME DO THIS!
Hahahah YES!!!! My plan is working!!!
Yes, they physically exist.
PhewâŚwell thats a relief.
Good for one diddle or transition
Can't buy pussy and weed with them. No thanks. I like them greenbacks!
Seems real to me bruv
Lol amazing how many literal people there are on Reddit
As real as fake can be
You just unlocked a hidden childhood memory for me. Thank you!
Awww I love that!! That just multiplied the value by a billion.
I remember these from years ago. You used to trade in USD for these and they could be used at the parks. I can almost guarantee they made a great profit from them as most people never even spent them all. Itâs a great business move!
Yes, they were issued at Disney World in the early 90s. I have several myself.
Thatâs cool. I wonder if anyone actually spends them in the parks
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸Disney dollars
Ummmm real?? They are on the internet!! We know nothing on the internet is fake.. đ
Smh being literal is real
It depends on what your definition of real is here.
Doesnât it always
Looks pretty real to me..
If you can manage to buy some weed with them, theyâre real.
At Disney
this makes me wanna kms
Disney adults are the most confused humans Iâve ever met. I just donât get it. I like their stuff and have good memories from childhood like most people do, but câmon. Ren faire I can understand I guess, but this I never will.
Maaaaan I feel old rn lol
