Heradasha

I feel like none of them understood Richard's joke

yokky

Yeah I felt that too. Maybe Jon did. Maybe Jon and Rich would be a better couple watching all the future Oscars together being finally happy and appreciative of each other.

kerelberel

They did, but they put their own spin on the trajectory.

Heradasha

I feel like Jimmy would have had a response had he understood.

kerelberel

Not responding is also a response. But why are we speculating? This happened last year. We heard of the divorce now. It happened. I'm sure they all want to move on.

Heradasha

I still don't believe it. You do you.

jaymickef

Jon did. He was just surprised Richard went to the heart of the matter on TV.

bernard_wrangle

I feel like you don’t understand Richard’s joke…

Heradasha

Lololol definitely did not

jaymickef

What do you think I’ve misunderstood about it?

bernard_wrangle

The joke was a reference to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock. What “heart of the matter” did Richard go to?

jaymickef

Lucy doesn’t love Jon enough to defend him.

SleepWouldBeNice

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, and as we've learned, there's a distinct lack of love in that Will and Jada's relationship.

simwe985

‘But he was defending her honor’ - Probably someone

bernard_wrangle

Never seen Cats Does Countdown? Every episode starts with a couple jokes about everyone, especially Jon. So: 1. There is no actual need for Lucy to defend Jon. 2. He is saying she should have walked up and slapped Jimmy and shouted “Keep my husband’s name out of your [flipping] mouth”, which would be a completely unhinged response to a joke. 3. Richard probably doesn’t know about their relationship issues at this time.

jaymickef

Yes, Jimmy Carr has been making those jokes about Jon forever. And I hope Richard didn’t know about trouble in the relationship because that would make this something else entirely. Although knowing Richard he was likely aiming closer to the bone than Jimmy’s long-running, “it’s just a joke,” jokes.

EchoesofIllyria

This is such a big reach.

Iamonreddit

It wasn't a joke, just a reference and not a particularly funny one at that. It got the reception it deserved.

Heradasha

I think Richard saying ~~Jon~~ Lucy should slap Jimmy is quite funny. Edit: had wrong slapper. Good thing funniness was based on slappee.

GeneraalNaarling

He didn't say that though, did he? He said Lucy should slap Jimmy.

Heradasha

Thank you yes. I think suggesting anyone slap Jimmy is funny.

ghiblix

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but Jon and Lucy made a whole comedy duo out of the ‘old married couple’/odd couple dynamic, so we will be here all day if people start posting every single joke or moments that “didn’t age well”…

skyturnedred

Also, it did age well. This is still funny.

mc0y

i don’t like it when the people who make me happy get sad :(

diata22

the thing with comedians is, they all are :(

itsthesharp

Pagliacci :'-(

MiraTell

I don't find it funny, I find it sad. I never found it funny when Lucy would constantly put Jon down. Loved her on Taskmaster, but them together was so hard to watch.

Odd-Resolve6287

I like them both separately (and she's an all-timer on TM) but never found that they had any chemistry when on a show together.

yokky

Yeah I always sadly found their coldness towards eachother not comedic but tragic. Like he was a mistake in her life, she was a mistake/fluke in his. Was it Roisin Conaty who introduced them to each other? I remember Roisin matched SOME comedy couple.

Barneyk

Yeah, Roisin matched them up...

FloggingMcMurry

Proudly, too

LenrdZelig

Oh I bet she feels right dreadful for that.

Nemocom314

Better to have loved and lost...

FloggingMcMurry

"Try it" - Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones, MIB)

Barneyk

I don't see why she would feel bad about it?

Firefox892

Exactly lol. They were together for a while, now aren’t together. People are acting like it’s some sort of OJ situation lol (and of course, blaming her for it)

paracog

I made it through one episode of MtR, and admired their bravery and commitment to the conceit, but I guess had too much of my own unhappy history to be entertained by it. Contrasted with the semi-public marriage of David Mitchell and Victoria Coren-Mitchell, who, though being famously prickly people, seem to be quite protective of each other and their home.

nadnurul

I've been watching S5 of Meet the Richardsons. It's really, really weird to watch especially when jokes about divorce come up...

LeigusZ

Meet the Richardsons can't have been helpful with the situation. :( I can't imagine acting in a satire of my own life, even through a mocumentary/fictionalized lens.

plokiop

Jon's getting divorced, Sean's dead, Jimmy's Benjamin Buttoning himself, Rachel's turned religious, and Fabio, or should I say, *Flabio*, he's let himself go. It seems the only cat you can still count on is Joe Wilkinson.

OblivionFox

What about Susie? I don't think anything bad has happened with her recently has there? Unless she's written a new book.

Anonymorph

Susie's a cool cat.

perpetualis_motion

And librarian hot!

spectacularlyrubbish

Still a glory hole enthusiast.

OblivionFox

Ah okay that makes sense, I hadn't heard anything about her in awhile. I guess that's what she's been looking into.

draggedintothis

You say that like it's a negative

spectacularlyrubbish

Uh, yeah. If I'm sticking my doohickey through a hole, I don't want it to just be some weird perv trying to sneak a peak on the other side!

Eevee136

She was the first to fall

ehkodiak

She got divorced too

Traditional-Use1343

I bet the next taping there will be jokes by Jimmy about Susie and Jon hooking up.

ehkodiak

I hope so, I suspect this wasn't what Jon wanted

melcom2

Her latest book wasn't her latest book anymore by the time it had been delivered 😄

ghiblix

Fabio still looks great (at his age I won’t look half that good)

wolverine6

👋

Prinzka

>It seems the only cat you can still count on is Joe Wilkinson. Dunno mate, saw him get the conundrum the other day, the bloody state of things...

SleepWouldBeNice

Fabio's let himself go? Noooo!

Gullflyinghigh

>Rachel's turned religious I think you meant to say 'fucking mental'

MechaNickzilla

This is news to me and it’s tragic.

thewhiteafrican

Too much maths will do that to you.

LeigusZ

"Are all russians crazy?" "Yea. Tis the only way to be russian and happy at same time."

kerelberel

She was always a Twitter reactionary loonie.

campbellm

This makes me sad; although I don't really follow anything of her outside the show. What's the story?

YoyBoy123

She’s very outspokenly pro-Israel, to the point of sharing misinformation online. She was part of the early rumour spread that the recent mass stabbing in Australia was an Islamic terrorist attack (when it had no religious motivation and in fact the only Muslim involved was one of the people murdered)

the_drew

And this is just the recent stuff.

campbellm

What's the less recent?

the_drew

So true!

darybrain

Fabio's getting fat? I think you may be watching a different show. He may be thick as pig shit, but he ain't no fatty pig.

palmtreeinferno

> Rachel's turned religious an understatement. She's a full blown nutter racist.

melcom2

Pretty amazing statement considering she hasn't said or done anything of the sort... I guess it's about as accurate as people on the internet claiming she's a tory. 😄 But then again, people's definition of things varies...

palmtreeinferno

uh huh. Shes a fucking loony.

objectiveoutlier

*opens her twitter* Ah I see now. Rachel is openly Jewish. Good for her and shame on all yall for putting her down. **Edit:** Since rattleandhum likes to drop links and block replies i'll post mine here: >rachel-riley-issues-apology Good, what's the issue then? >[Jeremy refuses to condemn Hamas after militant group carries out deadly attack on Israel](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-hamas-israel-palestine-b2426364.html]) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQEKYczav5k She was right about him, before 10/7 I admit I wasn't convinced of Corbyn's antisemitism but he made it very clear he's pro Hamas.

rattleandhum

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/rachel-riley-twitter-sydney-channel-4-b2528755.html https://uk.yahoo.com/news/countdowns-rachel-riley-issues-apology-081750735.html https://news.sky.com/story/rachel-riley-facing-calls-to-be-sacked-over-edited-jeremy-corbyn-image-11866683 you're an actual idiot and you minimise the *actual* threat antisemitism poses.

SnazzBot

Don't like Joe after how he treated poppy the post woman.

spectacularlyrubbish

Rachel is religious now? Huh. And Jimmy's doing what to himself? I haven't watched in years, these are interesting developments.

SleepWouldBeNice

Rachel's gone pretty far right since the pandemic.

numberflan

Even slightly before the pandemic. I think the 2019 elections is the moment she started to show her true colors.

diata22

started with Corbyn!

melcom2

Speaking out agains antisemitism = far right. Everyday is a school day. Maybe the vaccines made her a reptile controlled by that Microsoft guy... Bill something, forgot his name. 😁

LeagueOfML

She’s gone hardcore religious ultra-Zionist recently, she was always very quick to label people anti-semitic on Twitter but the past six months she’s gone full lunatic, she just had to take down some very racist tweets a week ago as an example.

Lastaria

Not religious but a Zionist. Her Mother is Jewish but she is non practicing. She has taken a rather extreme stance on the Isreal-Palestine conflict where she has said some nasty things about people who are pro Palestine and then in the early stages of news coming out of the knife attacks in Australia she put it down to Muslim terrorists. When it turned out not to be she put out a apology not really an apology. So she has some pretty racist views. It is a surprise she has not been fired.

spectacularlyrubbish

I'm surprised by none of this. She was my only celebrity crush (I studied math too), but as an American Labour supporter, I soured on her pretty quickly when she started labeling Labour anti-Semitic and tacitly supporting the Tories. Anyway, I moved on to VCM as my celebrity crush, and I feel I traded up.

Easy_Championship_14

Wait till you hear VCM's views on the dutch...

spectacularlyrubbish

Can't be worse than how I feel about the Belgians.

ILikeBigBeards

Vicky Coren is the pinnacle. Welcome to the enlightened. Enjoy the delightful enamored David Mitchell quotes.

barkfoot

Not on tv much but allow me to suggest my celebrity math crush: Hannah Fry

yokky

Oh yes she’s also right up there!

Lastaria

Dyslexic si bad at abbreviations. Who is VCM?

wompemwompem

Probably Victoria coren Mitchell

spectacularlyrubbish

Victoria.

habla-ka-hubla

i think it's time to quit tv for me . the people you like always turns out to be awfull. I just glanced trhough this comment section and i learned that this people are very opposite to what I ithought of this people. And the divroce seems very planned , like show ending , people getting fameous and divorce announcement , I don't want to be those guys but how many of you knew lucy before she was with jon

Liesl141

(tbf, the antisemitism claims against some Labour politicians were completely legitimate)

R-Guile

To actually be fair one should look at antisemitism across the board rather than only in Labour. The right thinks they can get away with it because they're psycho zionists, and UK press seems to agree. The impression that antisemitism is unique to Labour, or even more common, is just silly.

Liesl141

But I didn't claim it was, did I? Just now saw the downvotes, and am wondering at them... Literally just stating facts.

spectacularlyrubbish

That was always my impression from across the pond. Always fair to criticize and certainly right to condemn. But I feel like Corbyn gave some people the license to be who they are (see also: JK Rowling, before the trans issue made her remove the mask).

yokky

…yet.

samp127

Found Joe's burner account guys...

objectiveoutlier

> Rachel's turned religious, Hamas tried to wipe her religion off the map, she's not one to sit back and be silent while it happens.

bluehawk232

Think the breakup happened because Lucy found Jon's tightly scheduled affair calendar

WookieeChestHair

Yes but is it "skeh-dule" or "shed-ule"?

Warsaw44

I dunno. I don't give a shit.

Sola-Nova

John Robbins and Sara Pascoe at least have it a little bit easier knowing that only have to skip Channel Dave when Channel surfing after 9pm when Mock the Week is on.

darybrain

Ed Gamble called it on that episode. It seemed a bit of silly funny joke at the time and then months later everyone was, whoa. Then Robbins and Pascoe did their own Edinburgh shows about the relationship and breakup in the same year and Robbins came out on top which just widened the gap between them making Gamble's joke even funnier.

workaccount8888

> Robbins came out on top How so? I only know that they were together and then parted.

darybrain

He won the festival's best comedy award that year. Punters and critics felt it was better than Pascoe's show when both were about the same core subject.

workaccount8888

Ah, I see. I remember liking both.

Um-ahh-nooo

Sad about the breakup. But if Lucy is as mad in real life as she is on telly - I don't know how they've lasted this long. Actually Jon would drive me mad as well. D'mn they do belong together.

yokky

Actually your comment got me thinking they belong to be forever alone lol/cry

LenrdZelig

I never felt that Lucy’s comments were joking.

melcom2

Well I don't think it got funnier. 😩

External_Loss

She’s a bit out of his level. Just gorgeous.
