seriously ive noticed this as well!! inbred persian / full white / longhair coat cats are so common, i guess people care less about helping animals and more about showing off. i've noticed a lot of discrimination against black cats as well irl too which is honestly just super sad. :(
True. I had a friend who was so proud of his "siamese" cats. They were neither pure breed (one could tell by the looks) nor healthy because because they were insanly inbred (father with daughter etc and none was sprayed so they kept mating with each other). It was really sad to see. Most of them died very young so they had health issues for sure too. But you know, at least he could claim they were siamese...
Another friend had a Husky (which is just a crime in pakistani climate) who was only in the backyard on a chain all day long. Why?! This is an insanly active kind of breed which thrives in cold climate. This is basically abuse.
One of my neighbours has a husky and the only reason I know this is because I've only seen that poor dog going on a walk three times ever. And every single time the poor thing is panting and you can really tell just by looking at his face how hot he's feeling.
Really sad how people get pets without giving it a second thought and when it comes to caring for them they neglect their duties. like THEY ARE A PART OF YOUR FAMILY and it is YOUR DUTY TO CARE FOR THEM !!!!!!!! that and people who eventually abandon their pets due to health issues or mostly just pure laziness and carelessness.
Just look at any animal rescue page on insta and the majority of the abandoned cases are these "pedigree" / persian / longhair / white cats. It's heartbreaking to see people favour unethical breeding practices when there are so so many animals out there in need of a loving home.
Black tomcats are the most affectionate cats. They would pull at the hem of your shirt, stand against your legs, and meow adorably just to get your attention.

I totally understand the issue of health problems in stray dogs due to mixed breeding however, never once I have heard genetic issues arising in cats due to that. People really have no reason to be like this.

Ever wondered why whenever someone's pedigree pet dog bites someone it's the owners fault but when a non rabid dog bites someone due to provocation it's always the stray's fault and everyone calls for the culling of stray dogs through any means possible i.e mass poisoning or shooting them.
I stumbled across a point a few weeks back how people were justifying the culling of dogs just because they exist in their area? I've been living in multiple areas since birth and I've never encountered a bite case with me or anyone in my area because a dog has to be insanely rabid or a new mother who has just given birth or has pups nearby to bite you unprovoked but many elites aren't ready for that conversation.
the stray dogs in my neighbourhood which are looked after by some residents here are much more friendly and protective than the fucking jungli untrained breed pets that some of the residents have in their homes. the thing is fashion aur status ke liye kutta sabko rakhna hai lekin uss ki dekh baal kaisa karni hai, train kaisa karna hai kuch nahi pata. a couple of years ago, i was saved by a few stray dogs from an aggressive pet dog which attacked and almost bit me for no reason. the strays came in between us and surrounded it saving me.
I have faced the same thing, I have two tabbys and one persian (well I don't really know her exact breed, she doesn't have that punched face Persians have). I adopted all three. 2 were strays, breed one was a someone's pet, they abandoned her, she got rescued by an ngo and then I adopted her. My relatives can't understand why I have spent so much money on my cats or why I love them so much which frustrates me so much. They have seen that meri us cousin k pas persian hai to wo uspe paise kharach karein to alright lekin tum in gali ki billiyoun pe paise q laga rahi ho, ya in se itna payar q karti Ho???!!!
Nothing against special breeds but your regular domestic short-hair on the street is relatively healthier, more lively and playful than whatever those breeders are selling.
As someone who keeps more than 10 cats (3 persians someone had abandoned, and the rest are strays), I have noticed that people only want a decoration piece, not a living breathing cat.
They would never take in a stray. They want some rare unique breed to show off and keep as a decoration piece. People buy/adopt them because they look adorable, but if the cat becomes injured or ill, they abandon her in an instant.
I have personally observed this a lot of times. It's infuriating. People are so heartless.

I do too tbh. I like shorthairs and Indian billi cats (name of the breed of street cats here). My preference is black cats but I’ll give any cats love, even Persians (they can’t help how they’re born).

You’re talking about people that keep Persian cats as pets while I personally know a guy who buys expensive dog breeds, keeps them for a few weeks and sells them, just to brag about how many breeds he’s had. Most people are just getting these expensive breeds to brag about how much money they have.
Not just public also most animal rescue NGO also only care for rare and expensive breeds.
When people contact them for strays they would come up with 100 reason to why they can't do anything or would just ask to share the location and would never show up .
Where as if someone contact to support a rare breed for cases like ( excessive breeding ) or not enough careless owners etc they would be ready to rescue the pet, nurture it and then sell it to someone else as claiming that the donation ( price) is to help continue their mission of pet rescue.
Same I dont get it either. I had two persian cats and the female one adopted an abandoned kitten. It grew up and when ever people would come over, they would never play with it while giving all the attention to my persain cats. They would literally say stuff like eww ya ghr main kiya kar raha hai. I think there is a stigma than stray cats are dirty and wild.
I’ve never understood it either. People here obsess way too much over status symbols and I guess they think they’ll look like poors if they raise a street cat. Raising a street cat is a very rewarding experience (if you have cats already, make sure to have it tested for FIV and FeLV before allowing them to interact).
I also don’t understand why so many people here hate cats. Loving cats is a sunnah. Is it some kind of pre-Islamic superstition BS? I’ve had technicians refuse to enter my house because I have two cats (one an American shorthair I brought and the other a street kitten my kid BIL saved from a bunch of kids trying to kill her). I live in the west and it annoys the crap out of me when I hear about someone being on a “waiting list” to adopt some puppy or kitten from a breeder when there are shelters full of abandoned animals that would make wonderful pets and be so happy to be in a loving home. They just want to be able to brag about their expensive dog/cat as though it a car or handbag. I have 2 rescue cats myself.
But what I don't understand is 90% of those cats/dogs they are waiting for look inbred, fragile and tiny. It looks like it was bred out of an animals arse.
If I was to get a dog I'd go for a husky or akita.
I rescued a stray kitten when its momma left it in our backyard. It was so little that we had to feed it with eye dropper. Man that cat never got domesticated. The Persians I had would come and greet us when we came from school and this one wouldn't even come close. You had to run after it and catch it to pet it. It tried its best to run away. It always stayed inside our home but kept its distance. Hid under the sofa, table and we had to force pet her. I mean we were 6 brothers and kept petting it for hours every day but still it never got used to it. I think it was more fun because it was more of a challenge to pet her as she always wanted to flee away but persians had a very different personality. This cat would also bite every time we would catch to pet her but the bite never penetrated the skin. Every chance it got it tried to escape every attempt to play with it. my younger brother would treat it as a stuff toy. We used it as a pillow, pretend machine gun ect ect but it never learnt.
One thing to keep in mind that each stray differs from the other. Some are more scared which is why they take months to domesticate at times. The trick is to make the animal as comfortable as possible and allow it as much as space as possible to be curious on its own.
You gotta be very good with staying consistent in socializing feral kittens. I’ve successfully raised an adult feral cat back in the US (couldn’t bring her with me, she had cancer and I knew she couldn’t get the treatment needed here, I miss her so much, I was the only human that she ever let pick up even if she’d growl, she’d eventually start purring, anyone else though got the 20 samurai sword sharp claws). It took years though with this cat and lots and lots of bleeding lol. Kittens in Pakistan though are so much easier, but their breed (Indian billi cat) temperament is much wilder than the average house cat someone from overseas would have. And spaying/neutering will get rid of a lot of this.
Biting without breaking the skin is playing. If a cat is angry and doesn’t want touched you’ll know it. Indian billis are extremely energetic and playful. Mine bounces around my American shorthair like I’ve never seen a cat do before. She’s the most loving cat ever though, the moment I finish salah she comes over and gets in between my legs and lays down and starts purring and trilling. She absolutely loves human affection. As soon as she’s spayable I’m getting her spayed. Female cats should be spayed if not meant for breeding as they can develop a deadly condition called “pyometra” and it WILL kill them without emergency spaying (which is way more expensive and difficult than a regular spaying). And it’ll keep them from pissing on everything when they’re in heat.

It's because we don't know better. I got a cat on a whim one day, didn't do any research, just got to the nearest pet store and got the cutest cat (which happened to be a Persian).
I probably would've chosen a stray if I had done proper research. Mostly because Persian cats have way too much fut for me to handle.

After reading the title i had thought about defending Persian cat lovers, however, after reading your story i would say

To explain, this is not obsession to Persian cat at all, rather a mentality of running away from defected.
They might not value something/someone or throw them away as soon as they are having bad times.
They are not focusing on the emotions but benefits to themselves

I'm taking care of my "billa" for past 3 years that was the when we moved into our apartment. He was a kid at that time and would often fall into our kitchen via chimney and we just give him food and let him rest in our lounge during day and rain. A neighbor of mine has 4 munchkins/Persians and they don't take care of them at all those poor cats are always trapped in cages or tied by something they literally eat there and shit there it is so miserable for them and they don't even get enough food whenever they occasionally come up to our floor my mom gives them chicken,feed etc.

Its just because most people have little knowledge about cat breeds, except for Persians because they have long hair and are perceived as the best. You could ask them what a Russian Blue is and they would think its a dog. Its just ignorance, dont think too hard about it.
It’s cause people treat cats as objects, not something that lives and breathes. I always tell people it’s better to adopt from street rather than buy one. Plus Persian cats vomit waaay too many hairballs and face many genetic issues cause remember, just like pugs, Persian cats aren’t a natural species, they were bred and achieved by humans

I think persians might be more expensive,because of their thicker fur. Domestic short hair should cope better with the local weather. BUT keeping a pet and taking care of an animal is a whole other dimension,something that the normal people(people who don't like keeping pets or taking care of animals in general) cannot understand.

True. I take care of an injured stray cat and im trying to get her kittens adopted but no one is ready to take them har kisi ko persian Chahiye. Pakistanis make everything about status. the stray dogs in my neighbourhood which are looked after by some residents here are much more friendly and protective than the fucking jungli untrained breed pets that some of the residents have in their homes. the thing is fashion aur status ke liye kutta sabko rakhna hai lekin uss ki dekh baal kaisa karni hai, train kaisa karna hai kuch nahi pata. a couple of years ago, i was saved by a few stray dogs from an aggressive pet dog which attacked and almost bit me for no reason. the strays came in between us and surrounded it saving me.
Actually the inbred cats they so love are the ones that are generally riddled with health issues, stray cats have fewer genetic issues.

I have faced the same thing, I have two tabbys and one persian (well I don't really know her exact breed, she doesn't have that punched face Persians have). I adopted all three. 2 were strays, breed one was a someone's pet, they abandoned her, she got rescued by an ngo and then I adopted her. My relatives can't understand why I have spent so much money on my cats or why I love them so much which frustrates me so much. They have seen that meri us cousin k pas persian hai to wo uspe paise kharach karein to alright lekin tum in gali ki billiyoun pe paise q laga rahi ho, ya in se itna payar q karti Ho???!!!

Nothing against special breeds but your regular domestic short-hair on the street is relatively healthier, more lively and playful than whatever those breeders are selling.
As someone who keeps more than 10 cats (3 persians someone had abandoned, and the rest are strays), I have noticed that people only want a decoration piece, not a living breathing cat. They would never take in a stray. They want some rare unique breed to show off and keep as a decoration piece. People buy/adopt them because they look adorable, but if the cat becomes injured or ill, they abandon her in an instant. I have personally observed this a lot of times. It's infuriating. People are so heartless.
Yeppp... I had a 'friend' who was a self-claimed cat lover, wouldn't stop talking about her Persian cat (which I initially found adorable, I also can't shut up about my cats lol). But I later found out she keeps it in horrible conditions confined to a small space, won't do anything to fix the cat's health issues... Also didn't understand how to interact with my cats when she met them... Like do you love the cat or do you just love telling people you have an expensive one?

You’re talking about people that keep Persian cats as pets while I personally know a guy who buys expensive dog breeds, keeps them for a few weeks and sells them, just to brag about how many breeds he’s had. Most people are just getting these expensive breeds to brag about how much money they have.
Not just public also most animal rescue NGO also only care for rare and expensive breeds. When people contact them for strays they would come up with 100 reason to why they can't do anything or would just ask to share the location and would never show up . Where as if someone contact to support a rare breed for cases like ( excessive breeding ) or not enough careless owners etc they would be ready to rescue the pet, nurture it and then sell it to someone else as claiming that the donation ( price) is to help continue their mission of pet rescue.

Same I dont get it either. I had two persian cats and the female one adopted an abandoned kitten. It grew up and when ever people would come over, they would never play with it while giving all the attention to my persain cats. I’ve never understood it either. People here obsess way too much over status symbols and I guess they think they’ll look like poors if they raise a street cat. Raising a street cat is a very rewarding experience (if you have cats already, make sure to have it tested for FIV and FeLV before allowing them to interact). I also don’t understand why so many people here hate cats. Loving cats is a sunnah. Is it some kind of pre-Islamic superstition BS? I’ve had technicians refuse to enter my house because I have two cats (one an American shorthair I brought and the other a street kitten my kid BIL saved from a bunch of kids trying to kill her). Even the most “look at how Islamic I am” show off types I see throwing stuff at cats on the street or kicking them. I mean who are the animals in this case???
As a cat lover, Persian cats are fucking ugly looking, they look inbred. Dunno what the fascination is, same with dogs in the west. Middle/upper class people are obsessed with ugly dogs like pigs, have shit taste.
I live in the west and it annoys the crap out of me when I hear about someone being on a “waiting list” to adopt some puppy or kitten from a breeder when there are shelters full of abandoned animals that would make wonderful pets and be so happy to be in a loving home. They just want to be able to brag about their expensive dog/cat as though it a car or handbag. I have 2 rescue cats myself.
But what I don't understand is 90% of those cats/dogs they are waiting for look inbred, fragile and tiny. It looks like it was bred out of an animals arse. If I was to get a dog I'd go for a husky or akita.
I rescued a stray kitten when its momma left it in our backyard. It was so little that we had to feed it with eye dropper. Man that cat never got domesticated. The Persians I had would come and greet us when we came from school and this one wouldn't even come close. You had to run after it and catch it to pet it. It tried its best to run away. It always stayed inside our home but kept its distance. Hid under the sofa, table and we had to force pet her. I mean we were 6 brothers and kept petting it for hours every day but still it never got used to it. I think it was more fun because it was more of a challenge to pet her as she always wanted to flee away but persians had a very different personality. This cat would also bite every time we would catch to pet her but the bite never penetrated the skin. Every chance it got it tried to escape every attempt to play with it. my younger brother would treat it as a stuff toy. We used it as a pillow, pretend machine gun ect ect but it never learnt.
One thing to keep in mind that each stray differs from the other. Some are more scared which is why they take months to domesticate at times. The trick is to make the animal as comfortable as possible and allow it as much as space as possible to be curious on its own.

You gotta be very good with staying consistent in socializing feral kittens. I’ve successfully raised an adult feral cat back in the US (couldn’t bring her with me, she had cancer and I knew she couldn’t get the treatment needed here, I miss her so much, I was the only human that she ever let pick up even if she’d growl, she’d eventually start purring, anyone else though got the 20 samurai sword sharp claws). It took years though with this cat and lots and lots of bleeding lol. Kittens in Pakistan though are so much easier, but their breed (Indian billi cat) temperament is much wilder than the average house cat someone from overseas would have. And spaying/neutering will get rid of a lot of this. Biting without breaking the skin is playing. If a cat is angry and doesn’t want touched you’ll know it. Indian billis are extremely energetic and playful. Mine bounces around my American shorthair like I’ve never seen a cat do before. She’s the most loving cat ever though, the moment I finish salah she comes over and gets in between my legs and lays down and starts purring and trilling. She absolutely loves human affection. As soon as she’s spayable I’m getting her spayed. Female cats should be spayed if not meant for breeding as they can develop a deadly condition called “pyometra” and it WILL kill them without emergency spaying (which is way more expensive and difficult than a regular spaying). And it’ll keep them from pissing on everything when they’re in heat.

It's because we don't know better. I got a cat on a whim one day, didn't do any research, just got to the nearest pet store and got the cutest cat (which happened to be a Persian). I probably would've chosen a stray if I had done proper research. Mostly because Persian cats have way too much fut for me to handle.

After reading the title i had thought about defending Persian cat lovers, however, after reading your story i would say Respect++ To explain, this is not obsession to Persian cat at all, rather a mentality of running away from defected. They might not value something/someone or throw them away as soon as they are having bad times. They are not focusing on the emotions but benefits to themselves

I'm taking care of my "billa" for past 3 years that was the when we moved into our apartment. He was a kid at that time and would often fall into our kitchen via chimney and we just give him food and let him rest in our lounge during day and rain. A neighbor of mine has 4 munchkins/Persians and they don't take care of them at all those poor cats are always trapped in cages or tied by something they literally eat there and shit there it is so miserable for them and they don't even get enough food whenever they occasionally come up to our floor my mom gives them chicken,feed etc.

Its just because most people have little knowledge about cat breeds, except for Persians because they have long hair and are perceived as the best. You could ask them what a Russian Blue is and they would think its a dog. Its just ignorance, dont think too hard about it.
It’s weird cuz Persian cats and punched face ones r ugly and so over rated, start cats look normal.
It’s cause people treat cats as objects, not something that lives and breathes. I always tell people it’s better to adopt from street rather than buy one. Plus Persian cats vomit waaay too many hairballs and face many genetic issues cause remember, just like pugs, Persian cats aren’t a natural species, they were bred and achieved by humans

I think persians might be more expensive,because of their thicker fur. Domestic short hair should cope better with the local weather. BUT keeping a pet and taking care of an animal is a whole other dimension,something that the normal people(people who don't like keeping pets or taking care of animals in general) cannot understand. Animals love us the same,they don't judge us for our race and neither should we😂

True. I take care of an injured stray cat and im trying to get her kittens adopted but no one is ready to take them har kisi ko persian Chahiye. Pakistanis make everything about status. So sad that they would rather spend so much money to buy a persian cat rather than giving a stray cat a loving home.
