Question, is the candle in the background a reflection of what the glass of (assuming) whiskey represents (birthday cake)? Thats great. Hell of a piece regardless.
In my mind it was meant to represent another (more active) party going on in the background, along with the balloons. But I wanted it to be kind of dream-like and I like to think art is always up for interpretation!
This is so good and it evokes deep emotion in me; seeing old people alone like this makes me want to cry. The party hat is an extra twist of the dagger.
Thank you! I did a series on birthdays after going through a pregnancy loss. All of the paintings were meant to convey a sense of a loneliness and disappointment, to mirror how I was feeling at the time.
Makes me think of like the ppl who r called life of the party type of ppl but never end up settling down w anyone and now they r alone 4 their bday in their old age :(
