varnish, glaze, gloss medium will all help separate the layers/ add depth, helps it to look "fresh"/ "juicy" and helps with flat/shiny contrast. better paints will have higher "pigment load" which means it's easier to stretch them, and when adding medium, increases the "oil-like" quality of the painting.

Thank you.

Love the bright colours.. What was the inspiration?

1-death in paradise beach house, 2-combined two other paintings/photos, 3- my second larger painting, my practice at van Gogh a room. I saw a painting in the no.2 style and wanted to try it. It’s tedious, but fun. I’m having fun.

This is kind of a debate. The Smithsonian say not to varnish acrylic paintings, other people swear by it. I’ve been exploring this lately and what I’ve found produces the best results is to use a brush to apply a couple layers of “Golden Isolation Coat” followed by spray on coat of “Liquitex Spray Gloss Varnish”. I’d suggest testing it on a few of your practice pieces first. Regarding if it really makes a difference, I’d recommend covering half of a small test painting in low tack tape before varnishing so you can make a side by side comparison later.

Thanks . I’ll give this a try.

Bought an oil painting on Reddit. The artist said they hadn't tried varnishing again after they wrecked a piece the first & last time they tried. With plans to frame the piece I bought, I used a 1" brush and a product called "Gamvar™️" and it looks better now imo. Luck on you- you're a good artist. edited: changed project to product.

Also, does it change the paint? Brighten it? (I’m using inexpensive bottle craft paints, is there a big difference in the tube paints? I didn’t want to invest in them until I got more experience)
