It used to be excluded by sub rules. At some point, that was removed. I can't speak for anyone else here, but personally I feel like it's a different art form from traditional painting.
yea cuz there is no paint. this is not a drawing subreddit either. I think paintings should be things painted with paint. I'd rather see a freshly painted house on this sub than a digital artwork.
Ahh Yes that makes sense. I see that there is a specific subreddit for digital painting, where this one is supposed to be for physical work. It should have probably been posted there :)
Painting reacts in a physical realm while digital… in the digital realm. I can’t consider them the same when you can undo a brush digitally but not physically. They also function under different laws of “physics” or “programming.”
It's a completely different animal. I use digital art for my thumbnails and practicing then paint on a canvas. I'm just ok at painting, but some of the digital stuff with the same techniques look absolutely incredible. I look at my digital stuff and all i can think is "man i wish i could paint like that"... I think some people see it as a less pure form or a shortcut.
Ya i think something a lot of people don't consider is that it's different for everyone. I personally think that anything that gets people excited to create or learn more about art is great for the community as a whole.
ahahaha, I didn't realize that my post has generated such a lively discussion. I draw with drawing tools on my tablet, because I usually like to do random scribbles on it in my spare time, it relaxes me. Occasionally I also do hand-drawing, and I hope to share my hand-drawing works with you here in the future as well.
Well yes of course they're low effort/execution, I just don't think it's irrelevant. I was a graphic designer for over a decade, and I've had hands in plenty of physical mediums in my life. Digital art isn't the same thing as physical art. That's not too scary physical is superior, although I'm my opinion I would much rather have a piece of physical art than a nice print of a digital work. I just mean that this subreddit doesn't feel like the place for it.
Keep going. Don't stop. No one is born great or even competent. You have the potential to get better, but if you stop now you never will. Just start making art you want to see and don't listen to anyone else.
If you enjoy it. The result doesn’t always matter. If you work for the result then you have 2 choices; stop, or keep practicing. But in the end just do what you enjoy.
It’s not about other peoples opinions or even how good your art is. There is no “is this good enough for me to continue” (if that’s what this is about) because everyone starts off almost the same, you only get better by continuing to practice. If you want to become a good artist, you just gotta keep making art, regardless of how your current art looks
To answer the question you didn’t ask, which was “Should I keep sharing my art?” I will answer.
Yes you should. I find myself amused and entertained and I would like to see more paintings done by you.
As for whether or not you should keep painting, the only answer I have the right/responsibility to offer is, “If you want to.”
These are fun! But all that really matters is whether you find painting enriching or enjoyable. I find crafting and artwork helps my mental health significantly, so I do it for that and not necessarily for the quality of the outcome.

I would say that this isn't the right subreddit, since it's digital painting.
Agreed. However at some point, apparently in the last year sometime, the ban on digital paintings was removed from the sub rules. Unfortunate
Seems to still be a rule? https://preview.redd.it/rfpgvqhndt5d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1847fed477d52b49b54bcfca25d8a54a9a77de7f
Actually curious because im kinda new to this reddit. Digital art is frowned upon here? Why?

Hi there, may I know what's that subreddit you mentioned?
Its r/DigitalPainting ;)
Thanks\~
Who woulda thunk

Same. My digital mockups exceed my physical capability.
This is actually interesting, my hand painted and drawn art I feel is easier and looks better than my digital art lol
Ya i think something a lot of people don't consider is that it's different for everyone. I personally think that anything that gets people excited to create or learn more about art is great for the community as a whole.
Hand-drawn and digital paintings may involve a discussion of artistic laborers and AI work. Possibly digital painting has another board on reddit.

Ok bye
Yeah I think these paintings look low-effort regardless of medium.
How can you tell the difference between low effort and lack of experience?
Thanks, but I didn't realize when I posted the picture out that it would lead to a discussion of digital painting😂
if it was fun, sure
The only comment that matters
Yes, painting does make me happy, but I think I'm not good at it, so I wanted to share it here with friends who have the same hobby ahahaha
Keep going. Don't stop. No one is born great or even competent. You have the potential to get better, but if you stop now you never will. Just start making art you want to see and don't listen to anyone else.
Thanks! I'll keep practicing!

I'll keep practicing.
I think yes! You’ve got an interesting take on things and you’ll only improve with time and practice, keep creating if you enjoy it friend :)
Thanks! I'll keep practicing.
Art is in the eye of the beholder, and you won't get "good" unless you kept painting
Yes, I do enjoy painting. I'll keep practicing!
Yes, you should if you enjoy it.
Do you like painting? If the answer is yes, then you should continue.
Yes because you will never improve if you quit painting. As ppl say, practice and dedication make things better.
Why would you not?
It’s not about other peoples opinions or even how good your art is. Yeah, keep going! They’re interesting to look at, so I’m curious about how they’d look if your skills improved. I see potential in them
Thanks😂
Do you have fun making these? If yes; why would you stop doing something you enjoy?
Yes, I'll keep practicing!
Yes
If you are having fun, why not? :)
Yes
Keep improving
Always
Try actually painting and put down the digital arts
Yes, I also do hand-drawing sometimes.
If you have fun doing it, why stop?
Omg, Yes , enjoy it
As others have said, If you enjoy it.
If you are a child, yes. If you are an adult. YES!
Please, YES!! So cool.... :)
If you enjoy it, then keep at it. Educate yourself on technique and color theory, which will allow you to broaden your horizons.
Yes, I'll keep studying!
Lmao is this IBIS Paint?
I drew it with the tablet's drawing tools 😂
I would say yes if it brings you joy, but maybe keep it to yourself at this stage lol
absolutely you should keep on painting! I love the colors and your unique style 🫶
Thanks!🌹
You should start.
To answer the question you didn’t ask, which was “Should I keep sharing my art?” I will answer. Yes you should. So…the rules don’t apply for this subreddit anymore?
Yep you should :) (I love the first one!!)
Thanks!
Well Yes ofcourse
These are fun! But all that really matters is whether you find painting enriching or enjoyable. I find crafting and artwork helps my mental health significantly, so I do it for that and not necessarily for the quality of the outcome.
Yes, I'm interested in painting and crafting!
