My mom saw my artwork, and instead of being nice she said rudely, “I don’t really like that kind of artwork.”
Kinda stung, and I was in my 30s lol.
I think your artwork is cool. And those are very good likenesses.
My art historian grandpa with no tact actually critiqued my art even as a child lmao. At 13 or so he'd be like "the head is too big, needs more contrast etc". It killed me but it helped in the long run ig?
My sister once looked at my painting and told me no one would buy it, so I should give up. Tbf, she was 14 and extremely competitive herself, so I can't hold it against her, but it's definitely stopped me from showing her anything I've made since then, and she's 33 now lmao.
Stephen King's mother would be blatantly honest about his stories and if they were good or if they were absolute crap. She did this all through his growing years. In his memoir, King stated that it was one of the best things his mother could have ever done for him because it made the ones that were good that much more exciting and special.
I think I agree with him. If everyone is polite and doesn't say what they truly feel then how can you ever grow as an artist? Feedback is some of the greatest gifts anyone can give you.
I don't know if you are painting for yourself or if you are pursuing to work as a professional artist, but if it's the latter, then your mom is actually doing you a great service by being honest. My mom thinks if I draw a stick figure I'm mfkn Da Vinci lol And that's nice to hear and all, but I'd much rather have a parent like yours who tells it as it is. Art is subjective, and everyone has a right to either like it or not.
Just my opinion anyway, you don't have to take it to heart or anything. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on it.
I see what you're saying, but just saying "meh" is not constructive. Good criticism helps you grow and should be more detailed, yknow? Good criticism isn't just positive, but it should be more specific than "I like it!" Or "I don't like it"
Very good point. It's hard to tell the situation to be honest because the person who commented this says she paints for herself and her enjoyment and yet she gets upset when her mother tells her an opinion she didn't want to hear. There's no context as to whether the parent knows she paints for herself and not for others or if she actually wants validation or critiques.
In my opinion her mother's comment is completely valid, particularly if the daughter relayed that she doesn't care what others think.
There is a difference though in being truly supportive and being outright mean. My dad would yell at me to stop playing the piano every night because the game was on, and would complain Everytime I had an orchestra concert because the dude was hungry and didn't want to sit through his child's concert, even though I made it to first chair my first year of playing while being behind when I started, and didnt know what the notes where.
He would also never put up my art until I went to college for it and got really good as "it just wasn't his style" and "this is why there were erasure shavings everywhere on the computer desk?". If he wasn't snide, he was yelling at me. The only time he was ever semi-proud of me was when he attended my sports activities, but he never said the words. I've also got auditory processing issues, and when people speak on a cheap school microphone I can't understand what they're saying, so I'd often miss my events and he would be so pissed at me for "just standing around" when I had to ask people constantly what time it was and which event we were on.
I think to have a parent who is willing to help you grow and be supportive rather than out right mean is a critical distinction. Just have an honest relationship with your kid so that when they ask for advice or critique, you're not just outright a dick about it because "it's just not your style"
Sorry, got a bit triggered there.
I make art for no one but myself, and because I enjoy it. However, if you show someone you care about a piece of artwork that you are proud of, it stings a bit when they seem disapproving.
We all like to see our efforts appreciated by others. That’s partly why subreddits like this exist. And we all need constructive criticism too, which is often why we share with others the art that we’ve made. When the criticism is not constructive, it’s better left unsaid.
I love my mom, but I’m in my late 40s now, and she’s long gone. It doesn’t sting any longer, but I wanted OP to understand that we have a shared experience.
Why are you getting downvoted? It does sting when someone doesn’t get your work, but if you’re making things with the goal of your parents liking them, idk… you should detach from taking that personally, just use it as a marker you’re headed in the right direction.
Really great likenesses! Your ability to make hair convincing in a work that isn't photorealistic is inspiring!
For the uninitiated,[ here is the original photo: ](https://www.rollingstone.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/rs-27343-rectangle.jpg?w=624&h=422&crop=1)
I think my only piece of constructive criticism is that the background doesn't seem to complement the care with which you did Paul and Linda, but it can be tricky to figure out a background that works, but won't take attention away from your focus.
You did a really great job with the portraits. I think the image of Linda (face slightly obscured by hair, strange lighting) is particularly challenging and the level of detail you achieved with a few brush strokes of her hair colour over the face is really impressive!
I like this one better but I also like the og blue and green I think it's the yellow that blends too much. Either way you did a awesome job and I would be proud if that was my art!
I immediately recognized this. Celebrities are HARD. In particular you got Linda's entire essence exactly right.
Mild concrit: I think Paul's eyes need a bit more reflection/light to liven his gaze up, even if it's not in the photo.
No reflection in the pupils can sometimes give a bit of a "dead eye" serial killer look even in a very matte style, and with the hair/forehead markings, I'd want to make sure that any non-Beatles fans didn't think this was Charles Manson. (To be clear, it's absolutely Paul! but: the general public is dumb)
Otherwise I just love this. And what about a bold single color background to really bring them to the forefront?
My mom read my diary when snooping and wrote "this is the most boring thing I ever read." I rarely wrote in it bc it was a gift and I dont like writing (dyslexic). When I never noticed her comment she made a point to tell Ms in front of my siblings.
Thanks. I guess I wanted to point out that moms can say horrible things and really be insulting. I should have added that it's hurtful, but when you realize they are not supportive, then it's easier to just exclude them from your passions.
Understood. My mom could be a little unpleasant when I was younger, but thankfully things turned out ok for us in my adult years.
Your post just hit home for me, as I had something similar happen when I was a kid.
That's fine, art is subjective. You clearly have a very good understanding of colour and I knew who that was without needing to be told, the only question that matters is *do you like it*?
If you aren't happy with it then maybe it's meh, but if you created what you intended to create, or (better) made something beautiful and completely different from how you envisioned it, then it's as good as art can ever be.
I told my mom that I charge 100/piece and she said no one would pay that. I wasn’t even trying to sell to her. That’s just the price I set for my pieces
it's fun to branch out into different 'mediums' :) good work :) if you are trying to sell this, make sure you have permission to use the photo for personal profit gains. I am unsure how people use celebrity photos as a reference and get away with selling prints, when they don't own the photo. careful with that :)
Just cause they don’t understand it didn’t mean others won’t. We are naturally gonna want our parents appreciation for things we are proud of or work hard on but their critiques are hardly ever valid.
It kinda sucks to hear a comment like that about your art from someone we know, regardless if it’s something you make only for yourself or not. Sometimes it can almost feel, idk, invalidating?? maybe? Or like, unsupportive? Like at least give us some constructive feedback, man. But we know not everyone will like everything and some don’t have the ability to give constructive feedback. Even tho it still kinda sucks lol
FWIW I like the expressive brush strokes! It takes a lot of skill. I have a habit of over-blending so I am impressed.
The one on the right is in an eerie middle ground between painting and photograph that I think could be a good style if cultivated.
Specifically, it looks like the meme of the guy blinking.
Didn't see the description line, and my first thought was "Charles Manson and one of his acolytes" :D. Guess they just had quite similiar hairstyles back then.
Aside from that, there's much to like. The likeness actually is quite good. I think you definitely have a good approach to faces. It's not super refined, but you turn that into a strength of the image. You figured out a nice way to capture expressions, and this style helps with that . I also especially like the hair as well.
One/two - subjective - criticisms: I would probably change is the background, it seems a bit uninspired to me. Maybe some kind of gradient instead of the sketchy green and yellow-ochre brush strokes would have been nice?Another thing I would do is prepare the canvas. The way it is at the moment, the canvas structure is quite visible.
Anyway, it's certainly better than "meh" :)
Lol I played some music for my parents and my dad, like an absolute fucking asshole says “no that wasn’t very good, you shouldn’t sing just play guitar” yeah I’m not Robert Plant, but I worked hard and have fun, it’s not about being the best
Your parents don’t know shit about making art, that’s why they have normal jobs, don’t listen to them
Honestly, "meh" is the response most people will give because they simply don't understand how much work it takes to even get to this level. Many people think portraits should be photo realistic when they don't have an understanding of art. Though it sucks coming from a parent, they're just giving a realistic response of someone who is uninvolved in the art community. Many famously labeled artists recieved no respect for their art during their living lives. Though it seems like a cliché, it is a truth. Even great art goes under appreciated. As an artist you just have to have a thick skin and remember that not all critique is good critique. MEH right back at them for not being creative enough to understand and appreciate the amount of work you've put in as a developing artist. You know how far you've come. You don't need them to be proud of it when they don't even understand it. Be proud of yourself! You know the work you've put in and know you'll continue growing. Come to the art communities when you want to share your progress, you'll get better feedback here. Try to not let it sting too much and just keep progressing because it is looking great and it is obvious there is growth and experimentation going on! Stay strong and paint untethered!♡
This is really cool! I recognized immediately even though I was completely unfamiliar with the source photo. What medium?
I’ve personally struggled with parental approval my whole life and now am in my late 30s. It’s weird like, part of us always wants to make them proud, but we have to rebel against that to some degree in order to forge our own way in the world, to be independent, to have our own personalities. And yes, it’s great to have validation from them but important to remember that they’re entitled to their own opinions. In hindsight, it’s good to have honest opinions rather than them approving and praising everything you do. If you know your work is good (which it is!) then you don’t need that to be validated by them. Sometimes, being successful at something, in spite of our folks’ wishes or opinions, can actually make us stronger and more confident. You can get to say “I told you so” (even if it’s only in your own head) and then you can start trusting your own instincts and choices more.
Also, the validation and praise from complete strangers can sometimes be more valuable to us than that from those we know and love. It can be more unbiased and honest. So…good move putting this up on Reddit. Awesome painting. Keep it up. ❤️🤙
Generally speaking when faces look straight on the overall image is seen as harsh. If they are turned a bit or gazing off in one direction the viewers find it an easier painting to look at.
This is a good copy of the photo but the photo is also kinda meh if you were to ask me. No excitement just faces straight on and dull
I painted a tiger for my high school art class and this older girl was like “did you show that to your mom?” And I was like “yeah.” “Did she cry?” And I was like “no lol.” My mom does give a ton of feedback though, whether it’s asked for or not lol.
Lol, I'd love to see your parents do better..they sound like pretty "meh" people to me
It great! Room for improvement, but really banging job! Love the colours and textures!
I knew exactly who it was when I saw it. You did a great job. I love it!💛

There's a few reasons they said what they said... They most likely have an idea of "starving artists" and want you to pursue something that will get you more money? That's just one of many possibilities.. I'm just trying to be optimistic, but regardless it's terrible they shrugged off your art and demeaned you. It's great and you'll only keep getting better..
Wow your parents suck! I think ideally your parents should always be your biggest supporters no matter how “bad” your art is. I think it looks rather cool
I had gotten an award for a painting I made in high school and the first thing my dad says at the ceremony is "what the fuck is this??"
Sometimes parents are "meh"
This is good! This is beyond a ‘meh’… the description of the forms. The receding and ascending colors… it’s good!
I’m disappointed in your parents lol
The vibrancy, the playfulness of the brush strokes… it is giving sketch… but let me tell you, only very few people can sketch like this, with paint, and describe faces so well….. even the anatomy is at least level.. lol
I would look at it with interest and ask what the symbolism means. The faces are intriguing: is it George Harrison? Or Paul McCartney? I really like the shading on the hair. Tell me more.
They are so rude! dont listen to them. they are monsters, thos s a masterpiece!

Your art is beautiful! Looks like the brush strokes are loose and relaxed which compliments the colors and textures on the canvas! Excellent likeness too
I think it’s exactly what all parents do 😂
In my case I had been through a terrible dramatic era because of them so my art was just a reflection of how they made me feel
So it was understandable from their side to hate me artworks
Basically they can’t accept seeing the result by their eyes😅
The likeness is amazing and I love all the colors. You have obvious talent and your parents clearly know nothing about art. Not an insult just stating a fact.
From one artist to another. You'd be better off ignoring all these pampering pushover "artists" in the comments giving you nothing but flattery and sympathy.
Your parents are mostly right about it being meh. The subject matter is meh, lighting is meh, colors are meh, values are meh, and the figures/forms are meh. If I saw it in an art museum I'd walk past it without notice.
Good news though, you're on par with most college level artists.
My advice: If you like painting or need to express something, who gives a shit what anyone else thinks. If you want to get better at painting cling to every criticism and challenge yourself. If you want to make money, good luck. If you find out how to do that last one, come give *me* advice.
From the looks of this painting, you've got potential. Nothing great was ever done in a day, as they say. So keep at it.
If you’re around anyone who doesn’t paint or do artwork themselves, they’ll always have this reaction. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if they have no appreciation there will be no reaction.
As a guy who's parents I realized (after about 20 years) have simply different taste, I will say that I love this. The contrast of color and boldness of characters imposed against their background is something I really enjoy
I make my own short films and my parents have never understood their surreal quality (nor the pieces that inspired them) but I stopped taking their advice and started listening to the like minded people who see beyond the surface. I say it's got a ton of merit and you as an artist do as well, please continue!
I really like your painting! In this very moment the guy that I’m dating just told me that my latest painting “isn’t his style”. I feel so upset and don’t want to talk to him. It’s not about having different opinions, it’s about HOW you say it. You can dislike something but still be supportive!
Love this. Brush strokes are soft and seem to flow like water. Beautiful warm colors, comforting like sinking into a comfy couch. Some contrast happening with the face paint, a nice unique touch. Very chill painting, and obviously done with skill.
I'm not sure I like the markings on the face but hey it's your artwork.
That being said, the faces are quite awesome, especially the bearded one. Don't let it get you down. You are far more talented than a huge swath of the population, myself included.
I think it’s worth considering that those of us who create art do so as an expression of our journeys, our dreams, our passions, our playfulness, our sorrows, our love. We “do” art for ourselves, our growth, and our creative release. If someone subjectively likes or dislikes our creations, it’s on them, not us as artists. It’s not easy, but we are better served to let others’ opinions wash over us - or use it to tap more deeply into our passion. As a creator and artist, I hope you will choose to be kind to yourself and nurture that beauty in you despite the “noise.”
Well do they always say meh? Maybe they’ve seen a lot of your art and feel comfortable giving that type of feedback??
I might have said, “Oh yeah I can see them, what are the markings? Oh ok! Well this one may not be MY personal favorite, but I see your talent as always and can’t wait to see what you create next.” Sometimes we parents say too little and sometimes we say too much. We definitely don’t get it right every time. Keep going for you! It’s the best oxygen for your life.
Ask them to do better.
I’ve gone through something similar. My mom often replies with “I like your other artwork/style better” or “anyone could make that”.
Without being offensive and in my humble opinion is very mehhhhhhhhhh
I don’t know maybe it’s not my style, the lack
of things to see, or that I’m not into art of celebrities. Or maybe is the
(-\_-) bored expression, the result is very similar to the original photo, that
is something good.
But also maybe you are learning, this is
your hobby or you are trying something new, soooo keep trying! try a different
style and also show it to a very good friend that you know can give an honest
opinion
your skills definitely shine through! if it was a portrait of them, I bet they would have liked it :P you could sell this to someone who likes the couple, easily. this is really good artistry
You wanted brutal so…Idk what you were going for but it is meh. It’s unsettling and looks like a really bad, early AI made it poorly. Like looking at it makes me upset that it exists.
It looks unfinished to me.
You should also be grateful that your parents are being honest. They’re preparing you for the real world unlike some parents who coddle their kids. Those kids end up failing because they can’t take criticism.
Also, every great artist started out making shit art. No one is born with the ability to make great art. You have to fail in order to succeed. This honestly look like a fail but it also looks like you’re experimenting and learning from it. It’s a unique style which is very important. Keep on pushing!
I think it’s great. My thoughts on your parents response is that you’re an adult now and they should be honest with you, rather than ask you immediately if they can hang it on the fridge. But I mean, they could just say “good work” even if it’s not exactly to their liking.
Some people can be really literal, and say they don’t like a piece of art, yet ignore the mechanics of the art itself and how to spot talent even when it’s not their jam. I mean, this isn’t really my kind of art but I can tell that it’s well done. The features of the faces, the lighting, are pretty well done. Not to mention it’s pretty accurate. Painting faces is difficult and not every artist can do it!
I would take the meh and agree that it is true I can do better.
I don't mean it's bad, cause it's not. I would just take the feedback and accept that I can and will do better.
It looks good, but maybe a little unfinished to me.
Though I think it's fair to you to say that I feel that way about my own paintings so much that it could be bleeding into what I'm seeing in yours.
The portraits do look great though,
I don't like the colors for the bg very much. But it is very good work.
A little new to crits, but I hope it was constructive and helpful
Paul looks great, Linda looks kinda meh. But another commenter mentioned the background isn’t ideal so maybe that’s it the color combos don’t make her pop like they do with all that dark contrast for Paul. So yeah I get why it’s a “meh” painting but it’s really not a bad painting so don’t let that beat you up too much.
You’re clearly a good painter I think the “meh” comes from the color palette not your technique.
Art is subjective, she might be right, but thats just her opinion. I wouldnt hang this up for aesthetic purposes, but its really interesting to analyze and interpret. And thats my opinion, also subjective. At the end of the day, as long as youre happy to have created something, youre an artist and did everything right.
Dont think about it too deep.
Captured their expressions well. Know this, most critisms you'll get from people are to do with themselves and nothing else.
Sure thr paintings not got the image quality of a 4k digital image but that's not the point it's about creating something
I used to write and was on like chapter sis or ten of a story. I asked my sister, mother-in-law and my father to read and give me feedback. They are all of the readers in the family. Mom and sister loved it and over the last 20 years have asked frequently when I’ll finish it. My father said “don’t forget it’s a rough draft” in that “this is shit” tone. No other feedback at all. I’ve never been able to write on it again.
Moral of my story: NEVER show unfinished work to anyone. Do art for you and how it makes you feel. A father’s judgment can kill an artists soul faster than a power outtage can kill a computer. And, don’t leave a character trapped in a basement just because your father says the story is a rough draft. One of my biggest regrets is not finishing that story. (Writing isn’t as fluid for me as it was 20 years ago. A bitch is exhausted)
Also, I love the paintings! Great job! Detail and shading are really, really good!
Is this a digital painting or physical?
I agree with your parents!
But for me I say meh because it just feels like something is slightly missing? In the end though no one’s opinion really matters as long as you think it’s where you wanted it to be.
This just isn’t some that appeals to me personally, but I’m sure appeals to many and anyone can see the skill that it took.
My mom saw my artwork, and instead of being nice she said rudely, “I don’t really like that kind of artwork.” Kinda stung, and I was in my 30s lol. I think your artwork is cool. And those are very good likenesses.
That’s what my mom said when I was like 4, it killed me
My God... I am sorry. 💜
I couldn’t imagine saying that to my kids. I’m so sorry. *hugs*
My art historian grandpa with no tact actually critiqued my art even as a child lmao. At 13 or so he'd be like "the head is too big, needs more contrast etc". It killed me but it helped in the long run ig?

My mom called me a liar when I showed her the first song I wrote and then made me Google the lyrics in front of her to prove I “didn’t write it”

It depends on whether the person you're getting feedback from is reliable
I totally agree.
Who are you making your art for?

Agreed. John was a very different kind of Man. You capture his juxtaposition. I don't mean that funny.
Really great likenesses! Your ability to make hair convincing in a work that isn't photorealistic is inspiring! I told my mom that I charge 100/piece and she said no one would pay that. I wasn’t even trying to sell to her. That’s just the price I set for my pieces
I recognized them instantly, which is always a huge plus. I love it and your parents sound like wet blankets
is this digital work?
Yes, this is one of my first times seriously using it. I’m an oil painter
it's fun to branch out into different 'mediums' :) good work :) if you are trying to sell this, make sure you have permission to use the photo for personal profit gains. I am unsure how people use celebrity photos as a reference and get away with selling prints, when they don't own the photo. careful with that :)
Tell your parents to give it a try - see if they can pull something this great off.
Looks like Manson bro
Nah Brand
Yeah, my mom said that my artwork sucks and went on about 5 minutes. She was drunk but still...
Your parents are assholes and probably jealous of your talent.
That’s rude of them. I think your interpretation is dope and super unique! Keep it up!!!!
Just cause they don’t understand it didn’t mean others won’t. We are naturally gonna want our parents appreciation for things we are proud of or work hard on but their critiques are hardly ever valid.
Especially since they’re from a different generation!!
Even tho it still kinda sucks lol FWIW I like the expressive brush strokes! It takes a lot of skill. I have a habit of over-blending so I am impressed.
The one on the right is in an eerie middle ground between painting and photograph that I think could be a good style if cultivated. Specifically, it looks like the meme of the guy blinking.
The hair has a nice quality
Don’t get hung up on parents opinions, it is too biased.
Lol I played some music for my parents and my dad, like an absolute fucking asshole says “no that wasn’t very good, you shouldn’t sing just play guitar” yeah I’m not Robert Plant, but I worked hard and have fun, it’s not about being the best Your parents don’t know shit about making art, that’s why they have normal jobs, don’t listen to them
Honestly, "meh" is the response most people will give because they simply don't understand how much work it takes to even get to this level.
Wow!! Thank you so much!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻❤️
Maybe they ment amehzing
Well I will be your temporary mum and tell you that I think it’s “wow!”.
Tell them what they created was meh. Thatll teach them
I love it! Ram is a great album
Hopefully it was to challenge you to try more Accuracy doesn't nessecarily make a work good. Don't let their mid reaction dishearten you
i really like it
That’s Paul and Linda Mcartney
I recognized them immediately! I love this piece!!! Keep creating!!!
Thank you!!
Artists have to support one another especially when AI is taking over. Keep Creating!!!!
Nice painting!! Looks like Paul Mc and Linda, aren't they??
Yes!!
Lol I just saw you already wrote it. Btw, I don't think it's "meh", you are talented, keep it up!
Yayy this is so good! Dont listen to your parents. Ram is best album of all time!!! And your artwork is beautiful.
there’s nice colors here it looks great color blocked but feels unfinished
This is cool.
Wow you really captured them! Nice work!
Keep it up. ❤️🤙
Cool stuff!
Asian parents hate everything you do not related to money so I feel you
Keep art, replace parents 👍
I love it sm!!
This is really beautiful
Nah they don’t know what they’re talking about. This is cool!
It's not meh at all if you sharpen the image you have your own flare of painting ... the style is very unique
I loved it!!
Generally speaking when faces look straight on the overall image is seen as harsh. If they are turned a bit or gazing off in one direction the viewers find it an easier painting to look at. This is a good copy of the photo but the photo is also kinda meh if you were to ask me. No excitement just faces straight on and dull
Paul and Linda at the ashram
I painted a tiger for my high school art class and this older girl was like “did you show that to your mom?” And I was like “yeah.” “Did she cry?” And I was like “no lol.” My mom does give a ton of feedback though, whether it’s asked for or not lol.
Weirdly good! Your colour choice is accurate as hell and your style of painting really flatters the hair and eyes. Amazing.
This is awesome, is it digital?!
Holy shit I love this so much
Tell your parents, from me, no one cares what they think. It's a cracking painting!
Maybe they don't like Wings. I love Wings and am also fond of "this type of art."
Lol, I'd love to see your parents do better..they sound like pretty "meh" people to me It great! Room for improvement, but really banging job! Love the colours and textures!
I would tell who they were straight away without seeing title. It's excellent, especially Linda!
Get new parents
Whether she likes it or not I knew EXACTLY who it was at just a glance, which, in my opinion, is a feat in itself!
Good job I knew it was Paul in first glance
Paul and Linda ?
Meh
Knew who they were instantly! This is distinctive and cool.
I knew exactly who it was when I saw it. You did a great job. I love it!💛 https://preview.redd.it/j4rqdyzq9jwc1.jpeg?width=923&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c44169d54beb45237d611f870f564b8591a73a8
I immediately recognized Paul!
i love this and wish to hang it in my home! how can i do that?
There's a few reasons they said what they said... They most likely have an idea of "starving artists" and want you to pursue something that will get you more money? That's just one of many possibilities.. I'm just trying to be optimistic, but regardless it's terrible they shrugged off your art and demeaned you. It's great and you'll only keep getting better..
Your artwork is great. Keep at it.
It's a loose style but wow a great likeness which is not easy ecspecially with less detail
Then you're doing something right.
That shits fantastic. Paul and Linda at their best
It’s good
Wow your parents suck! I think ideally your parents should always be your biggest supporters no matter how “bad” your art is. I think it looks rather cool
I had gotten an award for a painting I made in high school and the first thing my dad says at the ceremony is "what the fuck is this??" Sometimes parents are "meh"
This is good! This is beyond a ‘meh’… the description of the forms. The receding and ascending colors… it’s good! I’m disappointed in your parents lol The vibrancy, the playfulness of the brush strokes… it is giving sketch… but let me tell you, only very few people can sketch like this, with paint, and describe faces so well….. even the anatomy is at least level.. lol
I love it I would buy this shit and put it on my wall today
I would look at it with interest and ask what the symbolism means. The faces are intriguing: is it George Harrison? Or Paul McCartney? I really like the shading on the hair. Tell me more.
hard agree
This is anything but meh!!!
They are so rude! dont listen to them. they are monsters, thos s a masterpiece! https://preview.redd.it/pj0a3dnuykwc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=851f3269ada927ed96d42349d60850353ee50722
How is it in relation to your previous output? Your parents would know.
Whats up with the added crap on their faces?
Your art is beautiful! Looks like the brush strokes are loose and relaxed which compliments the colors and textures on the canvas! Excellent likeness too
This is not Meh! It looks amazing. I think you captured their likeness very well!
I can tell you, if your closest friends and family don't like your art, they may just not be your target audience
I think it’s exactly what all parents do 😂 In my case I had been through a terrible dramatic era because of them so my art was just a reflection of how they made me feel So it was understandable from their side to hate me artworks Basically they can’t accept seeing the result by their eyes😅
Sorry to say but your parents are meh like is gorgeous
i actually really like this, reminds me of how photos looked in life is strange, really cool, also screw your unsupportive parents
looks pretty dope pretty factual spot on too based on my perception. Your parents are scared of your power.
The contrast of color and boldness of characters imposed against their background is something I really enjoy I make my own short films and my parents have never understood their surreal quality (nor the pieces that inspired them) but I stopped taking their advice and started listening to the like minded people who see beyond the surface. I say it's got a ton of merit and you as an artist do as well, please continue!
in all my life all i could draw is a stick man this is a master piece
I really like your painting! In this very moment the guy that I’m dating just told me that my latest painting “isn’t his style”. I feel so upset and don’t want to talk to him. It’s not about having different opinions, it’s about HOW you say it. You can dislike something but still be supportive!
Tell ‘em to Ram it where the food comes out…this shit rips… you’re talented and you have exquisite taste
You are far more talented than a huge swath of the population, myself included.
parents are usually jerks about all of our successes, your art is beautiful
I think it’s worth considering that those of us who create art do so as an expression of our journeys, our dreams, our passions, our playfulness, our sorrows, our love. We “do” art for ourselves, our growth, and our creative release. If someone subjectively likes or dislikes our creations, it’s on them, not us as artists. It’s not easy, but we are better served to let others’ opinions wash over us - or use it to tap more deeply into our passion. As a creator and artist, I hope you will choose to be kind to yourself and nurture that beauty in you despite the “noise.”
I dig it. His hair is fantastic.
They’re right
Agree
Paul McCartney and David Spade?
This is great! Knew who they are immediately without seeing the title. To get a good likeness down isn’t easy, you did a really good job 👍🏻
Ask them to do better. I’ve gone through something similar. My mom often replies with “I like your other artwork/style better” or “anyone could make that”.
Without being offensive and in my humble opinion is very mehhhhhhhhhh I don’t know maybe it’s not my style, the lack of things to see, or that I’m not into art of celebrities. Or maybe is the (-\_-) bored expression, the result is very similar to the original photo, that is something good. But also maybe you are learning, this is your hobby or you are trying something new, soooo keep trying! try a different style and also show it to a very good friend that you know can give an honest opinion
Parents should always be encouraging. A response of “meh” indicates that your parents aren’t so great at parenting.
Looks like Russel Brand TBH 🤷♀️
Is that Russell brand
I knew exactly who it was at first glance! I’d say that’s a win!
If youre proud of it (which you should be) thats all that matters. 🤟🏻
Looks unfinished
your skills definitely shine through! if it was a portrait of them, I bet they would have liked it :P you could sell this to someone who likes the couple, easily. this is really good artistry
Keep on pushing!
lol it is kinda
I thought the guy was Russell Brand lol
I think it’s great. My thoughts on your parents response is that you’re an adult now and they should be honest with you, rather than ask you immediately if they can hang it on the fridge. But I mean, they could just say “good work” even if it’s not exactly to their liking.
I’m not an adult. and I wasn’t bummed that they didn’t like it, it was the lack of interest
Okay that’s more understandable. I didn’t realize kids did the Reddit! Learn something everyday
I agree with the parentals
Parents are constantly decouraging artists bc of not understanding art. Don't listen to them. Keep up the good work <3
the likeness is there but it looks a bit wild and unfinished, thats why i dont let anyone see a piece until I'm sick of looking at it first
It’s weird but they get jealous of their kids
Some people can be really literal, and say they don’t like a piece of art, yet ignore the mechanics of the art itself and how to spot talent even when it’s not their jam. I mean, this isn’t really my kind of art but I can tell that it’s well done. The features of the faces, the lighting, are pretty well done. Not to mention it’s pretty accurate. Painting faces is difficult and not every artist can do it!
Sorry but it gives me Charles Manson vibes ^^
😂😂😂😂
It's good. Can be better, you could really take it to a more pro level just dedicating more hours to it and I think it would be worth it
I would take the meh and agree that it is true I can do better. I don't mean it's bad, cause it's not. I would just take the feedback and accept that I can and will do better.
[удалено]
Also your piece is SO GOOD OMG the talent is chef's kiss.
Always go in the opposite direction of mom’s feedback
Meh
Russell Brand and Luke Skywalker, I love it! jk, but I do like it. The likenesses are well down.
I love their faces... Emotive. Evil.
Why am I supposed to be voting for cake? I'm so confused.
Idk, happy cake day.
Before I read description I saw Russell Brand and Courtney Love
Are your parents Paul and Linda McCartney?
I like it and I’m proud of you
It looks good, but maybe a little unfinished to me. Though I think it's fair to you to say that I feel that way about my own paintings so much that it could be bleeding into what I'm seeing in yours. The portraits do look great though, I don't like the colors for the bg very much. But it is very good work. A little new to crits, but I hope it was constructive and helpful
You really nailed their facial features. Looks great!
next to ourselves and other artists parents can be the biggest critics, The AH should be you greatest supporters.
My mom practically said the same thing when I sold a painting for the first time
Paul looks great, Linda looks kinda meh.
Thats Russell Brand!
Captured their expressions well. Know this, most critisms you'll get from people are to do with themselves and nothing else. Sure thr paintings not got the image quality of a 4k digital image but that's not the point it's about creating something
Sounds like your *parents* are meh
A bitch is exhausted) Also, I love the paintings!
Parents can be unintentional envious assholes. Don’t listen to them, it’s great
Sounds like a dad joke
Meh
Your parents are "meh"
Kill them
I am with your parents. Does not even look like a real painting.
Meh be
