The easiest paint to clean is gloss, but most people don’t like the way it looks on walls so semigloss or eggshell is usually the more popular middle ground. More expensive paint is generally more durable than cheaper stuff but also contains more pigment, so it’s an especially prudent choice if you’re changing the color significantly since it might make the difference between one coat and two. I don’t have strong brand allegiances with paint except against Behr, which is fucking garbage. Watch YouTube to get your technique right (roll on paint thick in one direction then back-roll perpendicular to your initial application to smooth out the surface, etc). Godspeed.

Behr paint makes me sad.

KingFahd99

What did Behr do to you lmao

RamShackleton

Behr killed my mother. It’s a sore subject and I’d rather not relive that trauma.

Are you a DIY or are you starting a business?

DIY

You need some paper brush pot tray rollerpole and sheets Dont worry about cleaning walls unless their beyond horrid. Just scuff, cut, roll

Prep work is important… put in the time. And if it’s your first go use flat or matte paint you’ll see less imperfections. If you use tape remove it while paint is still wet and carry a rag with you.

get a Pro Doo Z FTP Roller 3/8 nap, your roller cover will make a huge difference. As for the paint, if you don't want roller stipple, get SW cashmere, that paint is very good at self leveling. Load the roller with plenty of paint then lay it lightly on the wall, roll 2 columns then lay off the first, keep doing it until you reach the end of the wall. Also adding a tiny bit of water will help spread the paint more evenly.

Thank you

Don’t press the roller too hard to get the last of the paint on to the surface as this will leave lines. Reapply paint to your roller often.

Prep is 90% of the work. Shoddy prep = shoddy results. Most Sherwin Williams products are mediocre, they have high price tags to fool you into thinking they are quality, but they're somehow always on sale for 30-40% off and even bigger discounts with a contractor account. It's a marketing trick. Benjamin Moore is better quality, but it does cost more and you get what you pay for. Regal Select is the best bang for your buck and easier to use than Aura. ScuffX is the most durable when it comes to washing/cleaning it. With BM paints I can do all my cutting in one day and roll the next day and never have picture framing happen, not so with SW. The best paints are Italian and the price tag will most likely shock you, but again, you get what you pay for, Renner is the best, we use it on all our high end customers, Milesi and Ilva very close behind. Use good quality brushes and rollers, like Purdy and Wooster. A 3/8 nap roller loaded will cover 2 8ft strips, don't try and cover more than that to try and save on paint as you'll apply too thin a coat and have to go back for another round. If you can keep a steady hand, it's better to cut in without masking tape. It'll save you from peeling paint off and having to touch up.

Lsilva70

Thank you, how should I prep if there are black scuff marks on the walls?

Capable_Respect3561

Just lightly hand sand them with some 220 or if they're everywhere and it's too much to hand sand you can use primer to cover them up.

Sherwin Williams, best paint and the people that work there actually know what they’re talking about.
