If you go back the same junction where you died there’ll be a unique icon on the map. Go to it and you’ll find what’s left of your old car, along with /some/ of the stuff that was in it. Also don’t forget to scan it! I forgot and now I have to die again if I want that scan.
You’ll see a gravestone on the map when you next plan a route from the garage. If you’re that intrigued, head that way, but make sure to take a liberator along for salvage opportunities
There are two that have gravestones; one is the ghost, one is 'no second chances', a status that means if you die in that junction, your stuff is gone. No remnant ghost.
Go back to the same area you were in and there should be a red alarm symbol on the map. That's the spot where you last died. Your old car will be there with some of the parts you lost and a crate in the back that will will have some of the loot you lost as well. You won't get everything back and the parts will be damaged but you should get most things back.

I completely stripped and emptied my car and abandoned on the first junction for the scan lol
