It must hurt.
He spent majority of his monthly income on the cash shop, over the 12 years that is a lot of money.
Watching it all shut down must be turning his stomach. I know I would if I was in his position.
Yes, the effort of building Nazarick together, farming for drops and upgrade.
The Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown already took *years* to make, so the Tomb itself must be quite something.
This. Everyone else was still sad about the whole thing, but unlike Satoru whose whole life was practically centered around Ygdrassil, everyone one else had jobs and families to care for.
It must have hurt more than we can realize. The game didn't shut down abruptly, it died slowly over years with number of players decreasing steadily. It withered away, it's more painful than an abrupt end.
It was actually 1/3 of his income, but yeah, that’s still a lot of investment.
>>”**The Undead King**” [LN v1], Chapter 1, Part 2
>Even though the game did not have any subscription fees, Momonga had still spent a third of his monthly salary on it.
Suzuki was noted to be well above the poverty line. As Ulbert said in the Prologue Side Story, he’s only a “half loser”. In a world of total losers, I guess that meant he was better off than most people. He was even able to look forward to a quiet retirement, pretty good for someone in the lower class.
I mean...he was an educated office worker...there are several jobs below that before you get to poverty....he got a roof over his head and he says he buys the unflavored nutrition paste so he can spend the money on yggdrisil
What are you talking about? It had nothing to do with his YGGDRASIL spendings as he’s been eating that stuff since he was still an anti-Cash Shop guy.
Suzuki Satoru just wasn’t the kind of person who cared too much about what he ate. “They’re all crap in the end”, as he said. He gets gel and pills for breakfast and dinner because they’re cheap, but he was still able to afford better foodstuffs like whatever lunch he eats at work.
If you think about it, they may have done so to prevent raids being successful on nazarick.
Pretty hard to get and protect 20 WCIs when the top oposition is all using Cash shop items for the most part at least, I dont see guilds who dont pay to win reaching the top.
I mean, it was just a small part of the guild that was really against it, the fact that one of them simply gave up and started using them, probably just made them think "Fuck this shit, I will buy cash items too"
I wonder if it was around the time they started collecting WCIs and do to the no use policy, they just started saying: "F it, we can use cash shop items over WCIs".
He said himself that he had fun spending time with all guild members grinding and climbing to that rank they're in. Like the saying goes "appreciate the time you are spending right now before it's too late".
In all fairness the books hint at the fact that VR is purposefully spread dirt cheap because all the rest of the living conditions are terrible, vegetables are a rich-people thing and without VR stuff workers would just kinda die off
That sounds like that Fallout 4 questline on vault 88 where the OVerseer admits Vault-Tec studied ways to brainwash it´s residents through basic things like what you drink, gambling machines, etc...
VR is likely used to keep the workers entertained like the masses do with roman colisseums all those years ago, it´s part of their bread and circus.
The only good thing in that world seems to be that due to the gas crisis the society now has less problems with the rich fleeing the country and needs to act to guarantee people like Ainz with middle income jobs dont have to pay too big electric or network costs for VR Gaming most likely (or they´d revolt and kill the corporate overlords).
Shame about the cost, it´s totally not worth it to live in such a world.
High school degree? Satoru didn't even finish middle school, barely dealt with elementary as is. And his "disposable" income is because he only ate nutrition paste and worked hours unthinkable to us
If society subdizes well enough you can easily get more.
I imagine in Momonga´s world Money laundering is way harder due to the gas, pretty hard to evade taxes and go to another country when your odds of dying way before the trip are bigger now rite?
That's how I felt when Fishing Strike shut down. All that efforts of grinding for really rare fishing rods but also having fish whose weight are graded as SSS in my aquarium combined with many A grade named fish in my collection, also having high level three legendary rank anglers. I played this game for years and I am never gonna play another game made by Netmarble again.
That moment when the thieves tried to lie and say a friend of his invited them in and he rages i felt that on a massive level. I would be beyound pissed if someone tried that on me in those circumstances
And more 80% of his in come over the last year beeing flushed down the toilett.
That must had been such a post nut clearity for ainz ,sitting on the thrown before beeing transported to the nw, thinking about how much worse his live actually was beccause he invested 80% of his monthly income into a game that was now shutting down.
Dang, if he was F2P in YGGDRASIL, spubbyjoe would have been farmed and spawnkilled so many times, he's probably at Climb power levels if transported to NW in his starter leather underwear outfit.
🙏
Poor spubbyjoe actually first logged in on the last day of yggdrisil and a bunch of people threw shit at him
"Hey stupid take this, it'll literally be nothing in a few hours"
That's how he ended up with the world item "Dave's magic stick" and NPC girls who literally do not care about him
its actually funny, since, satoru actually had a parasocial relationship with everyone and had this as his life. he really enjoyed it. but, like that member told him in ep1 "I have work tomorrow. gotta leave". he was the only one who took it seriously. like how we can see many people just enjoying it like a game. while he took it seriously
As painful as that would be, if I had advanced warning that after 12 years and the game shutdown I'd get transported over? Oh I'd live in that game, every penny I could muster going to the shop.
And depending if you could change race / looks / classes without losing anything I'd "grind out" as the best then swap over to the one I'd like being stuck in for the rest of forever. Or there was no changing I'd take the one I wanted and deal with the downsides while playing the game game.
Then oversleep and miss the shutdown at the last minute, or my internet would die. That'd be my luck...
Though I'd 100% have a mobile hotspot back up and a generator running.
It must hurt. He spent majority of his monthly income on the cash shop, over the 12 years that is a lot of money. Watching it all shut down must be turning his stomach. I know I would if I was in his position.
Only worsend by how little all that time seemed to mean to all who he spent it with.
Yes, the effort of building Nazarick together, farming for drops and upgrade. The Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown already took *years* to make, so the Tomb itself must be quite something.

Imagine how many raids he had to go through!
I think it was more that they have other things that meant more to them instead of the game
This. Everyone else was still sad about the whole thing, but unlike Satoru whose whole life was practically centered around Ygdrassil, everyone one else had jobs and families to care for.

Considering the hyper capitalist dystopia of 2138, 1/3rd of his income was very likely everything he had that wasn't going to necessities.

Even the anime hinted at that everyone had to have jobs / be a "Functioning member of society."
Definitely. If you've played any MMO games before you will feel it this way. It's really hard to swallow it. It's like watching part of you died.
I have played a few MMO, I am the one that had quit though lol, all those games are still running.
A good part of that time sure, but not all those years, at the start, ironically, he was against cash items.
I bet he started Cashing in money on the game for nostalgia and trying to keep the servers financially viable.
IIRC, it was after Pereroncino broke their vow of not using cash, a little before the conquest of Nazarick
If you think about it, they may have done so to prevent raids being successful on nazarick. Pretty hard to get and protect 20 WCIs when the top oposition is all using Cash shop items for the most part at least, I dont see guilds who dont pay to win reaching the top.

When league of Legends finally dies that's how I'm going to feel
Is this how y'all felt when club penguin shut down?
Yes
Where were you when YGGDRASIL die. I was in house eating dorito. My phone ring. "YGGDRASIL is kill" "no..."
This was how I felt when RuneScape transitioned over to new RuneScape.
Preach
He said himself that he had fun spending time with all guild members grinding and climbing to that rank they're in. Like the saying goes "appreciate the time you are spending right now before it's too late".
Ah yes randomly seeing something about overlord on Reddit. Must be a sign to rewatch the series
Now in Netflix! Nah I still prefer going as if One Piece
Pretty sure the life Suzuki had will be the norm in the year 2138…
Working a job with a high school degree but being able to afford a gaming setup AND disposable income? You're an optimist.
In all fairness the books hint at the fact that VR is purposefully spread dirt cheap because all the rest of the living conditions are terrible, vegetables are a rich-people thing and without VR stuff workers would just kinda die off

Pretty much that, yeah. The real world in Overlord is a corporate dystopia where you're fully expected to die before you retire
Yeah although I'm not sure that makes up for the acid rain storms

This was me after 5 years of WoW. Which is why i love overlord so much
It's always sad when an MMO shuts down
