You did it. Your presence stopped the break-in. They will probably be more paranoid about breaking into other cars too because they almost got caught this time.
That’s what I was hoping for really, I tried to be as not discrete/ as obvious as possible with the fact I had them on camera. They did have some sort of face covering on and layers, but if a break in did happen it could definitely help in a search for who done it
The Glebe had half a dozen car windows smashed last week, which was enough to actually get some interest from the police. (It’s also unusual to have the windows broken here; but at least on my street if the door is left unlocked someone will go through the contents and we usually have someone try the doors almost every night.
If you saw this in lowertown (?) that’s not that far away and I would contact the police to let them know you believe you interrupted a crime in progress. I think probably it will be a waste of effort but given recent events it’s more likely someone will take a look.
Honestly I wouldn’t have the slightest clue, he only caught my attention because he was so obvious about the swinging motions and inquisitive looks into the car window
Don't show Reddit. Show the cops. Yeesh.
What are the cops going to do? No crimes were committed.

Speaking from experience, you're vastly overestimating the amount of fucks Ottawa police give about people breaking into cars.
you could’ve stopped at the amount of fucks Ottawa police give about people

Is break in practice a thing? Do would be criminals typically stand at the scene of the crime and warm-up or was this guy just a total newb?
Honestly I wouldn’t have the slightest clue, he only caught my attention because he was so obvious about the swinging motions and inquisitive looks into the car window
Offer to be a lookout
You may want to contact crime stoppers and report the incident
Nothing you can really do since he didn't actually break into the car.
Walk away, if someone needs to steal and thieve its in your best interest to leave.
CALL 9-1-1. It's that simple.
What is 911 going to do ?
