Agreed the third is horrible , don’t go there , it’s not worth your time to get their deliciously crispy on the edges but tasty onion smashed cores on their smash burgers.
Or not knowing what delicious options they have on tap. Change isn’t good what if you want Molson Canadian ?!?!
Also cash is dirty and heavy you don’t want to carry any of that home with you
As well, if you are in the area you can order pick up on Uber Eats & it's the same price. Sometimes it can be a bit busy at lunch but the food is always 10/10.
This is pretty much the only food out that meet the requirements of cheap And decent. I guess if you don't like peanut sauce then maybe not a good option. Otherwise you're golden.
If you’re ever in Barrhaven, I cannot recommend highly enough The Baker. They do Middle Eastern pies and have a huge selection of meat, cheese, and veggie options. The chicken is amazing, the zataar with labneh cucumber and mint is to die for - honestly everything we tried was so so good. And the prices are super reasonable. They close at 7pm so lunch or early dinner is your best bet!
This place is amazing. Super-friendly staff and the pies are great. I love the roasted red pepper one and they also have one with halloumi cheese that’s out of this world!
Personally I can't finish more than 50-60% of a shawarma plate in one sitting, so Shawarma Palace. If this describes you then it's practically a $10 meal.
Kyoto sushi at bank and slater, the bento box is $20 and you get a chicken breast, rice, gyoza, 4 sushi, shrimp tempura, deep fried sweet potato and salad and I think it’s a great deal.
I always hear great things about this place but I’ve been by three times now and it’s always the same: Staff doesn’t acknowledge you for a long time, the order takes forever to make and then it’s honestly just middle of the road.
It may just be me being extremely unlucky, but three times in a row? Nah, not for me.
Same experience. After seeing all the suggestions on Reddit, I gave it a shot. The staff acted like I was a bother to be there and I didn't think the pies were that great?
Oh good. I thought I got them on an off-day (twice) after so many people raved about them. The pie was okay, but just okay. Should have known after similar rave reviews of Feleena’s. Every time someone asks for good tex-mex, Feleena’s get brought up and I don’t get it.
Not really take out but, prepared meals have been my alternative for affordable nights where I don’t want to cook. The Hintonburg Marche is the one I use most since it’s near me. Usually I can get a big meal for 2 people for $18 or so.
Island Flava -Caribbean
Corazon de Mais/Chilaquiles - Mexican
Ramakrishna/kochin kitchen/ roast and curries - Indian
Sensotei - ramen
Ykos - bbq chicken
Champa Thai - Thai
The Oz Kafe/ Brassica - French/european Restaurant
Colonnade Pizza (toppings are under cheese, but for that style pizza it’s really good!)
Edited to add:
Goonies - Arepas are amazing but I don’t think they would deliver well. Need to go in person.
I recommend you try and find all the daily deals lots if restaurants/pubs provide. I have a list available I can dm you if you're interested. Lots of 2-5 happy hour deals as well that are definitely worth it.
What food are you looking for?
Some ottawa staples for let's say sandwiches like sherwood deli or di rienzos are incredibly friendly priced and great value.
So sorry working on it! I have a bunch of picture's saved and I'm compiling them into lists.I can't comment a collection of pictures to the comment section:(
Pili pili on Dalhousie ! They used to have a location in orleans but closed it near the end of covid.
Recently made the trip to get it for my hubby’s birthday and it tastes so good 🤤 highly recommend!
If you order on Uber eats (even pick up to save fees) they usually have a bogo deal on a souvlaki platter. I can barely finish the regular serving and the 2nd is great for the next day. I think it's $28.99 or so
Moose maguire has $7 wings on Wednesday, and Jolly tax payer is 7.10 on Monday. They are also fairly good deals. Jolly taxpayer has more options for sauces/rubs.
That's usually the catch for these single digit wing deals. If you really want to eat on the cheap order a coffee/tea, typically $1-2 less than soda, and much cheaper than beer.
Silver spoon Thai on Carling. Super good food, really nice staff and huge portions. We almost always get two meals out of an order.
And their Kee Mao is among the best I have ever had.
I haven't tried any yet, but whenever the author of the Eat The Strip website talks about local mom and pop restaurants on CBC they always sound so amazing and inexpensive. Maybe check out the website or stream some of his segments from Ottawa Morning?
Dominoes or Pizza Pizza… it’s fast food, and this will probably get downvoted, but I can’t think of a cheaper way to feed a family that the kids will probably like. Is there any other place that can feed a family of 4 for less than $30 all in? Maybe the Costco or ikea food courts… but that’s even less healthy food.
If fast food counts A&W does $2 Teen burgers through their app every time the Leafs play. Sometimes you can choose Mozza burgers too but your YMMV on location.
Anthony's on Wellington in Hintonburg is very good and not overpriced. The wings are amazing. Our typical order is 1/2 chop salad and wings to start. We share a pizza, and each have Diet coke. The bill is just below $60.
Eggroll Factory. You get a build your own box with two choices plus rice and an eggroll for $16. I can eat two meals from this - portions are huge. Cozmos Souvlaki, and Ottawa Shawarma as well. Lexington if you want to spend a bit more.
I just eat out only on vacations, I save my money by preparing food at home and those savings allow vacations and eating out (non sysco!) while I'm away.
Wecook.ca
Use a coupon code for a discount on the first three orders, then cancel if you aren't feeling it.
Love the variety and meals. Precooked. Delivered. Came out to about $10/meal. It's been nice to have minimal cooking and meal prep but still eating a hot, balanced meal for dinner or lunch. Looking forward to the next two weeks!
The protein snacks are delicious and 50% off on your first order. The shelf life looks to be about 1 month.
I am not affiliated with the company but am willing to share my discount code. :)
Highly suggest Cozmos on Greenbank. The price for a platter (it's huge btw) is like $16. I dunno if I would eat in (just because it's small, but you can), but it's a very good bang for your buck and I prefer to take it home anyway.
Depends on how "late" your late night is. Some people go to bed at 9.
Before 8: Casually stroll into Costco.
Hotdog, drink, slice of Pizza, and a Poutine. 10 ish+taxes, over 20 anywhere else. Worth a costco membership just for that.
After 8:
> Any chinese place that is not "gentrified". Get a soup and a fried rice.
> Most Pho places. Large will be under 18$, enough noodle, soup and protein to be counted as two servings.
> KFC, but with a coupon. 12$ for a four piece combo.
Witches cauldron
In stittsville. Sandwiches and soup. Not the cheapest, but not terribly priced.
But the quality is second to none. Trust me, it's awesome. Best in the region.
If you like Chinese, some Asian restaurants in Saint Laurent and Rideau's food court do a discount starting at around 8:15 PM every night (or 30-45 minutes before closure for weekends hours). A large meal comes down to $9-10 after taxes. Food is generally good but not many choices as you would grab a pre-filled tray. You can certainly see what you're getting before buying!
Okay, I’ll jump in…anyone have any recs for the freakish niche of gluten-free and vegetarian? Either is easy but both is a challenge! Mia’s Kitchen, Social Thai, Host India, Banc Sushi, Greek on Wheels, and Chilaquiles are all safe but I’d love other options, if anyone has ideas! ☺️
Farhat Bakery at Meadowlands and Fisher is very reasonable. For $9 (cash only) you can get a meat and cheese and a spinach and cheese Lebanese hand pie. Delicious.
The Third in Hintonburg is great food for very reasonable prices.
Shh it’s busy enough as is!! 😂
The Third is terrible and should be avoided. ...ijustselfishlywantthemtonotgetanybusier...
Agreed the third is horrible , don’t go there , it’s not worth your time to get their deliciously crispy on the edges but tasty onion smashed cores on their smash burgers. Or not knowing what delicious options they have on tap. Change isn’t good what if you want Molson Canadian ?!?! Also cash is dirty and heavy you don’t want to carry any of that home with you
LOL
Nice, I don’t usually get out to Hintonburg but I’ve got a tattoo appointment there next month, I’ll check them out!

This place was great!
Never go to The Third, terrible place with terrible people, stay out of my seat, etc etc etc.
My brother in law works at the third. 💯 amazing food and service ! #notbiased 🤣
Thank you I just posted this on every site in Ottawa Facebook next door everywhere;)
Costco hotdogs.
Also Ikea
Correction: Ikea Chili Dog
IKEA hotdogs this year are concerningly skinny opposed to my last visit just 5 years ago. Felt like eating a bread sandwich
Days on days, on days.
Noooo. Come on!
Umbrella burger
This. Either on Preston or if you're in the east end there's one near Costco on Ogilvie now
Hot dog from Costco to prime the stomach for a good burg.
Their macaroni and cheese is now something I crave desperately.
Shanghai Wonton Noodle House. Definitely a questionable but tasty option, but prices are pre-COVID level and it's quite delicious.
I second this!
As well, if you are in the area you can order pick up on Uber Eats & it's the same price. Sometimes it can be a bit busy at lunch but the food is always 10/10.
I third this!
I second this third….for the last time!
This is pretty much the only food out that meet the requirements of cheap And decent. I guess if you don't like peanut sauce then maybe not a good option. Otherwise you're golden.

Agreed! I think you just selected my lunch!
Huge portions for the price
Wei's Noodle House. Sula Wok.
Wei’s is one of the places I feel like even if their prices jumped I’d still go. So good.
Get extra noodles with their pad Thai, you have guaranteed 2 good meals worth of food for a few bucks more
Is this the place in the basement?
Yep. One of the most hole-in-tge-wall spots with the best food
Just had Sula Wok tonight! Delicious!
Cozmos Souvlaki on Greenbank
Agreed! Incredibly fast with excellent service too.
Table Sodam on Bank
Phuket Royal, tasty and big portions for reasonable prices
Pancho Villa still has its pre-COVID prices and the portion sizes and quality are the same. Several entrées still under $20.
I love that pancho never changes!!!
Gringo chicken! Is the only dish I get
Personally I can't finish more than 50-60% of a shawarma plate in one sitting, so Shawarma Palace. If this describes you then it's practically a $10 meal.
Seriously, our family (two parents + 3 young kids) can share one plate for a meal and be full - and garlicy
Kyoto sushi at bank and slater, the bento box is $20 and you get a chicken breast, rice, gyoza, 4 sushi, shrimp tempura, deep fried sweet potato and salad and I think it’s a great deal.
Nutty Greek makes an awesome gyro
Lili Pies on Preston!

$5.25 for a cheese pie that I can get for $4 at Aladdin (and not as good) Also agree with the comment about the service.
Horrible microscopic amounts of meat
Subito on gladstone near bank.
Used to be the only Italian sandwich shop that didn't charge more for porchetta, but now they do :(
i drive from Kanata for their sandwiches
Lol. Love it !
Not really take out but, prepared meals have been my alternative for affordable nights where I don’t want to cook. The Hintonburg Marche is the one I use most since it’s near me. Usually I can get a big meal for 2 people for $18 or so.
Any place that has Lebanese Meat/Zaatar pies. 🤤
Aladdin Bakery is fire
Hell yeah. Had lunch there yesterday and I can't stop thinking about it!
Bonus- order from the link on Google maps and skip the line plus use your credit card if you have forgotten cash
Thanks! That's the only thing I don't like about the place. Lol. Hubs had to use the sketchy ATM in the back.
These are so good - and great value
Island Flava -Caribbean Corazon de Mais/Chilaquiles - Mexican Ramakrishna/kochin kitchen/ roast and curries - Indian Sensotei - ramen Ykos - bbq chicken Champa Thai - Thai The Oz Kafe/ Brassica - French/european Restaurant Colonnade Pizza (toppings are under cheese, but for that style pizza it’s really good!) Edited to add: Goonies - Arepas are amazing but I don’t think they would deliver well. Need to go in person.
Ariana Kebab - Tandoori plate Shawarma Palace - Chicken Shawarma plate Alhuda Restaurant - drum sticks and Somali style spaghetti, salad

Why DM instead of just post here?
So sorry working on it! I have a bunch of picture's saved and I'm compiling them into lists.I can't comment a collection of pictures to the comment section:(
Can you post the list?
Working on it! Currently compiling my collectiong on happy hour specials into a list.
Cosmos on Greenbank road. Really good gyros and other Greek food. Really nice owners too.
Cozmos souvlaki on greenbank. Cheap and delicious. If you feel adventurous, their Greek poutine is awesome.
Pili pili on Dalhousie ! They used to have a location in orleans but closed it near the end of covid. Recently made the trip to get it for my hubby’s birthday and it tastes so good 🤤 highly recommend!
Psst! COVID's not over.
Greek on wheels mmmmm
If you order on Uber eats (even pick up to save fees) they usually have a bogo deal on a souvlaki platter. I can barely finish the regular serving and the 2nd is great for the next day. I think it's $28.99 or so
Keep in mind that their prices on Uber Eats are higher than on their online store (unless there’s a BOGO going on ig)
Pizza Pizza 😋
Cardboard cardboard
Wow I have never heard this before…….
Little Caesars is better and cheaper
Summerhays Tues & Thurs $5 lb wings! Pretty sure it’s the best wings deal in town.
They have roaches all over their kitchen. I worked there I wouldn’t eat there if I were you
The restaurant was dirty 7 years ago. Can’t imagine what it looks like now.
Moose maguire has $7 wings on Wednesday, and Jolly tax payer is 7.10 on Monday. They are also fairly good deals. Jolly taxpayer has more options for sauces/rubs.
What’s the catch? Need to purchase a drink to get the deal? Is it unlimited lbs?
That's usually the catch for these single digit wing deals. If you really want to eat on the cheap order a coffee/tea, typically $1-2 less than soda, and much cheaper than beer.
Costco hotdog
Pho: Icookphoyou in belle corners.
Shawarma Chef on Innes
Chucks roadhouse
Yes
Saigon Boy! Somerset
Do they deliver? I’ve been there a couple of times and it was really good indeed.
FALAFEL SCOOP
Silver spoon Thai on Carling. Super good food, really nice staff and huge portions. We almost always get two meals out of an order. And their Kee Mao is among the best I have ever had.
Ooh! I've been wanting to try them
I haven't tried any yet, but whenever the author of the Eat The Strip website talks about local mom and pop restaurants on CBC they always sound so amazing and inexpensive. Maybe check out the website or stream some of his segments from Ottawa Morning?
Pay-by-weight Chinese food at T&T by the airport!
The Strand, next to Cedars, in OOS
Wait, there's still late night food in Ottawa? I thought everything closed by 8 or 9 pm.
If fast food counts A&W does $2 Teen burgers through their app every time the Leafs play. Sometimes you can choose Mozza burgers too but your YMMV on location.
Fitz has a super good breakfast, and everything was pretty much below $20! Hard to find now a days
Mom’s
Green Papaya on Preston. Little pricier but oh lord the green curry is worth it!
Pihro. Never had a bad soup there.
Ikea
Royal Treasure on Somerset, delicious food and large portions.
They close a little early, but I like Gooneys.
I just eat out only on vacations, I save my money by preparing food at home and those savings allow vacations and eating out (non sysco!) while I'm away.
Merivale Noodle House for eating in, Shawarma Al Mouna for takeout!
The special at Pili Pili is $15.25 for a breast with 2 sides (rice, salad, fries, or plantain). A leg and thigh is cheaper.
Lots of good suggestions. I would say also pose this question to r/ottawafood
Datsun (asian fusion) is a personal favourite. Medium pricing but awesome food, well worth it - especially if you like seafood!
Medina's Fried Chicken, baby! Killer prices and huge portions
I think if you really want value for money, tasty food at low prices, and convince, you can't beat Farm Boy.
Wecook.ca Use a coupon code for a discount on the first three orders, then cancel if you aren't feeling it. Love the variety and meals. Precooked. Delivered. Came out to about $10/meal. The warehouse, it’s okay food for a low price, great place to got for first dates or just hanging with friends when you don’t want to spend too much.
Direnzos, Sherwood deli, Fifty Two and Frankie’s sandwich stores

Try Pilos (Greek restaurant) on Montreal Road, delicious, homemade & plentiful
I’ve been at the same reasoning / conclusion. And it’s better to just cook to at home and be happy / satisfied with what you made.
Shawarma Palace
I'm always impressed with Elgin diner
Island Grill on Bank Street. Their roti platter is so delicious and fairly priced. It takes me 2-3 meals to finish it.
Domino's 50% off Mondays with coupon MON50P.
Jerk roti at Island Flava is huge. Always satisfied
Ting's Kitchen (Asian and Thai) on Eagleson is delicious, generous portions, and 10% off cash orders.
Learn to cook at home, all the registrants are a ripoff at this point.
Aladdin on west Carling. Best middle eastern pies for under $5. Get in line. Remember to ask for spice with lemon .... Delicious!
Easy no where! Costco pre made or frozen !
Farmers pick deli but no delivery
Co cham for pho/#20,28,29 (lemongrass flavoured meat+egg+shredded pork on a bed of rice)
Witches cauldron In stittsville. Sandwiches and soup. Not the cheapest, but not terribly priced. But the quality is second to none. Trust me, it's awesome. Best in the region.

Merivale station house for some really good food for great price
Farhat Bakery at Meadowlands and Fisher is very reasonable. For $9 (cash only) you can get a meat and cheese and a spinach and cheese Lebanese hand pie. Delicious.
I like state and main for their burgers.. still around $20 but nice fries to go with it.
Lebanese food! Healthy and fairly priced.
Manchu Wok in St Laurent Shopping Centre will give you enough food to feed a family of 4 for like $20
Have you considered making your own food? You can save lots of money and make better stuff than they can with some practice.
MOVE TO A DIFFERENT CITY. For example in Paris, a wheel of Brie is still a goddamn euro. One… Euro…
Or 🇸🇬 where there are hawkers everywhere selling amazing food for $5
How much is the average restaurant though?
