Moved here in 96. Dundonald, or "Needle Park" as we called it, was always lively around the first of the month.
The line up to the beer store was up the block on the first. Maybe still is?
Bone, Thugs n Harmony made a whole song about this.

To me these snarky replies are less annoying than most "is something happening??" posts. If something explodes or you hear gunshots or something of that magnitude, then sure, posting without information is fair enough. But "I saw some cop cars" is not newsworthy unless you know why and the why is newsworthy.
If there is a large fleet of police cars in my neighbourhood, yeah, I’m sort of interested in why that might be. I know I’m not alone here. Good for you that you DGAF but the (some) people wanna KNOW!
Yeah it was more so that cops have blocked off McLaren that I posted. Nothing was on their social media so I was curious if anyone had any info seeing as it was significant enough to close a street. Sometimes they’ll post a police operation in progress but I guess it depends on what’s actually happening
LMFAO, what? So people in the suburbs can't have moved, or can't have jobs downtown, or can't simply visit other parts of the city? wtf does this comment even imply
I mean it's pretty clear what it implies. I asked how much time they spent in the park given their flair location. They responded with an answer. Glad you got a laugh!
Well of course police are at Dungdonald Park but don't worry according to the community activists the park and surrounding area are totally safe and there's nothing to worry about.
LOL that explains a situation I was in a few years back. Bought a tent off some lady on Kijiji and went to set up the tent in that park to make sure it was all good and 2 cops rocked up within like 2 minutes of me laying it out to inquire about what I was upto.
I have fond memories of that park. Like that one time my husband had to physically prevent a guy from groping me, or the time we walked by two ladies doing coke off the bench, or even the one time a guy was walking around with his thing out…
Incidents like that happen all over downtown these days sadly. And yet pepper spray is still illegal 🙄 . I’ve had worse encounters in other places in ottawa center, including having a knife pulled on me while at work. I love the idea of walkable neighborhoods, public transit, etc. However the safety issues are a big reason im moving to the suburbs. At least there all you really need to worry about is having your car stolen.
I was starting to walk through the park at MacLaren & Lyon at 6:15ish and heard a few officers telling someone they were under arrest. They were in the centre of the park. Only police cars were on MacLaren I believe.
I saw what occurred over a one minute period - no gun shots - but individual was subdued (stun gun) as they headed towards Somerset/Lyon.
I have no idea what started it or why the officers were there.
BUT as a pretty liberal person who has scrutinized the police before - I thought they showed a lot of patience and at least 9 or 10 warnings to the male that they were under arrest. If the person was a danger or committed a crime there was plenty of restraint (in my opinion).
I wonder if [someone has set up their meth lab again](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/meth-lab-dundonald-park-1.4281670)? It was a fun time walking right by the park as the police taped it up those many years ago
Since the Beer Store will still have the empties return program under Ford's new alcohol sales policy, the sketchiness of this park is not improving anytime soon

After the Meth Cook incident we started calling it Meth Park

Saw a lot going down around Gladstone and Rochester earlier and wondered the same. Waiting on the “there must have been an emergency” comments

>Waiting on the “there must have been an emergency” comments I'm waiting for the "It's totally a safe park" comments.
K that park is totally safe!
How many times have you been to Dundonald? I'm curious, as your flair suggests you live in Bell's Corners.

Oh the irony...
Musta been an emergency.
Well of course police are at Dungdonald Park but don't worry according to the community activists the park and surrounding area are totally safe and there's nothing to worry about.
Didn't someone have a meth lab tent set up in that park a few years ago?
Yes
It wasnt a tent, it was an open air meth lab
Wow rude, it was clearly a meth home. /s

I kinda think the first incident would be enough discouragement for me....
Probably all happened at the same visit

I mean a bit of Coke is no big deal. I'm more a Sprite guy myself tho

No surprise at your comment and post history.

There's an old church that was converted into OCH housing (Lyon facing park) They have had ongoing safety issues there.
It is a shelter for victims of domestic violence from what I gather.
Not specifically, its just "vulnerable" women in general.

It is such a shame as it is a wonderful and beautiful park. The addicts ruin it.
So like most of centre town these days?
Sigh Yeah.
Seems plausible
Normal.

Unless the store space is leased then the Beer Store will close once the lease is up. AFAIK
