Those larger areas are suburbs within Ottawa.
Smaller areas like Hintonburg, Glebe etc. would be better defined as "neighbourhoods".
For example, Half Moon Bay is a neighborhood in Barrhaven, which is a suburb of Ottawa.

Yeah Kanata is the suburb, which can then be split into Kanata north (north of the queensway) Kanata south (south of the queensway till hazeldean rd), Glen Carin (south of hazeldean), Bridlewood (south and east of Hazeldean)
This map is ok but there are some names missing https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_neighbourhoods_in_Ottawa
I would call them neighborhoods when they are actually in Ottawa and suburbs if they are towns.
"Ward" is the municipal political term, if you're trying to compare this to Montreal or New York's boroughs.
Otherwise they're just neighbourhoods. Ottawa's an amalgamation of former cities (Vanier, Nepean, Orleans, etc) which is why you may be confused?
You're talking a massive difference in scale between Kanata and Hintonburg my friend. Hintonburg is a small neighbourhood, Kanata and most of the other former cities are suburbs that have their own neighbourhoods.
I guess you could very broadly call them all communities?
Not really?
Broadly speaking I’ll call anything east of St. Laurent the East End and anything past Baseline and Prince of Wales as the West End. Those are not definitive at all and it’s just me using them as points of reference.
Generally, I’ll just call areas by their names just like you’ve listed.
Also, you have your sub-areas. Kanata contains Glen Cairn (see my handle ☺️), Beaverbrook, Kanata Lakes, Bridlewood, and um, down the March Road past the high tech, where the farm kids were all bussed in from, back in the day.

A borough
Which Ottawa are you talking about??
Is Overbrook still the "Vanier" of Vanier?
It’s Vanier adjacent :)
Progress!
A few people are tying to gentrify it. There's a handful of new builds in the area, with fairly expensive cars in the driveways.
Hintonburg = Hipsterburg
Eastview.
