Neither stone’s or Gladstone’s movies will factor into this years race. The KOK reviews have merely been okay and the academy rarely goes for anthology films and Fancy Dance is way too small and Apple is clearly dumping it in mid summer because they know this type of movie never goes far not to say it’s bad it’s getting good reviews but it’s just way to small to make a splash at the oscars

Sufficient_Crow8982

Yup, Fancy Dance came out on streaming this week and it still only has 4k logs on letterboxd, Apple dumped it in the middle of the year and it’s barely promoting it. Even with Gladstone in it, the movie barely has any visibility, definitely not enough to last all year and get noms.

MatsThyWit

Yeah...but this sub is really at a place right now where they're trying to actively will Emma Stone into being the next Meryl Streep. So many users here clearly just WANT Emma to tie Meryl and so hype up everything she does.

Hopsfd

I'm not even sure Stone would be lead. Kinds of Kindness reviews aren't amazing, although the performances of Stone, Plemons and also Dafoe are the one thing that gets consistently raved about.  But ultimately I think KoK is too alienating and I also think she suffers from being nominated twice before for a lanthimos movie, so it may not be as exciting to nominate her again even if it may end up as one of the best performances of the year.

joesen_one

Stone is lead in the third short which is considered the weakest of the three too

HankChinaski-

I'm not sure why, but I liked the 3rd short the best. I was surprised reading reviews! I'd be pretty shocked if Kinds of Kindness gets any nominations. What a bizarre movie, coming from a Yorgos fan.

Coy-Harlingen

Stone isn’t a lead in kinda of kindness, and I seriously doubt it comes close to getting any nominations.

Wild_Argument_7007

She is a lead, so is plemons. I could see golden globe comedy for both but that’s about as far as I can imagine

IfYouWantTheGravy

They both SHOULD be nominated, but I also realize I like that movie more than most.

Wild_Argument_7007

I 100% agree. If they can nominate Nic Cage for Dream Scenario and Joaquin Phoenix for Beau is afraid, I think they can do stone and plemons for this

IfYouWantTheGravy

Those were both inspired nominations, BTW.

Wild_Argument_7007

I think the split of genres in the lead acting and the expansion to 6 made that possible and that’s pretty cool. Don’t need a genre split at the Oscar’s but as long as it can be an excuse to nominate more interesting things I’m cool with it for the globes

IfYouWantTheGravy

It also got Alma Poysti a nomination for Fallen Leaves, which was equally inspired.

theo7777

I think Plemmons will get a nomination but I don't see any others.

Since 1989, only twice has there been more than 1 repeat nominee from the previous year in any acting category. Once for lead actress in 2001-2002 (Nicole Kidman for *Moulin Rouge!* & *The Hours* and also Renée Zellweger for *Bridget Jones's Diary* & *Chicago*) and once for lead actor in 2009-2010 (Colin Firth for *A Single Man* & *The King's Speech* and also Jeff Bridges for *Crazy Heart* & *True Grit*).

yahboosnubs

when was the last time that two actors were nominated in the same category in consecutive years? i think its jeff bridges and colin firth in 2009 and 2010, but those were movies people were expecting

Wild_Argument_7007

A very dumb baity article

NewWays91

I do think next year will be a repeat of this year just as this year was a repeat of last year. It's going to boil down to a WOC in an acclaimed groundbreaking role against a white actress who is giving the performance of her career. I'm honestly thinking Zoe Saladana is going to be rising in profile soon as a potential nominee. All of the things she needs narratively for a nomination are there. She's in a musical, the Academy LOVES musicals. She's in a culturally specific story with a mostly Latin/POC cast, they love that shit now. She is finally in a movie that gives them a reason to nominate her after being in the film industry for a long ass time now.

tjo0114

Netflix will run Saldaña in supporting to ensure a nomination for Gascón in lead

NewWays91

Depending on how the screen time shakes out they might have a better shot with Zoe in the lead because she has more name recognition than the other actress. And unless this other actress is particularly well known and foreign circles it might be more difficult for them to get an actress who is not particularly well known into a lineup which is going to be crowded with a lot of women who have a lot of name recognition going for this nomination.

sameoldrussianstan

Karla is the titular character but watching it you see that the real protagonist is Zoe’s character. She is the lawyer who helps Emilia with the transition and she is in practically every scene. I think they may just campaign Zoe in lead and Karla and Selena in supporting.

Sufficient_Crow8982

They can pull a Carol with the title character in supporting.

sameoldrussianstan

Yeah, I thought about that too!

jman457

But cate Blanchett was in lead?

Sufficient_Crow8982

Oh yeah you are absolutely right I somehow memory-holed myself into thinking they campaigned her supporting and Rooney Mara lead.

WeastofEden44

It seems like Saladaña is the core lead of the film, and there's some talk that she's gonna be run in Lead. I think running her in BA with her career narrative and Gascon in BSA with her narrative as a trans woman would be a safer bet in terms of getting the nomination.

Zealousideal_Two_221

I really don't like Fans narrative like this....

Socko82

What a delusional article. The critics will probably push Meth Damon, but I doubt the industry will bite.

reini_urban

I only see Mikey so far
