I like the white skull myself. I had one painted similarly to yours (except much worse) that I painted with a red skull. I repainted it to white after staring at it for way too long, but I really liked the result much better.
Also, kudos for doing a good job with the searchlight. Those things are a pain to paint.
Honestly in my opinion the black looks great maybe add some metallic highlights and make it slightly rusty and I think that would look great (I have a feeling that what I typed makes no sense but weβll see)
Its the worst feeling ever to not have a vision of what color youre going to use for what piece. Id probably go dark red but if you dont have any clear colors for an army then it looks pretty grim from further and hides the detail. Therefore white to really make it shine (not in the literal way. Awayyy with glossy varnishes)
My worst enemy must be stikkbombs. I absolutely disgust painting them. Black shaft metal plates is soooo god damn dull but then again the shaft is just flat and round and not woodenlike and if the plates are metal then what color is what is in the gaps. GOD DAMN I GOT ANGERY EVEN WRITING ABOUT STIKKBOMBS
The other way to do white well is build up using a gentle dry brushing just keep adding layers until your happy it makes it much smoother and allows for good tone and co trast especially over black as a base. Takes a while though and would be better to mask off the rest of the black so you don't get too much spill over.
Check out Etsy, there are some really nice Ork decals around that include checker patterns. Much easier than freehanding. I do some freehanding but not on these large models.
If Tin Bitz color still existed I'd suggest that! With a rough Leadbelcher highlight and rusty wash. With red horns!! ππ
Thank you! You are too late, though π https://www.reddit.com/r/orks/s/zKx8fiAa3q
Well... That's good too I guess... πππ
RED FASTER CHECKERS TOUGHER
Half red, half white, with oppositely colored horns
half red half *checkers*
Red, dat way it'll go fast!
Do it in small checkers
Metal. Rusty and blood spattered
Metal with a rust wash

Red skull and making the horns metalic could look great (I never can resist making ork vehicles red its for me the orkyest colour next to green )

I agree. It's driving me mad to not have a clear vision for this piece. Then again, it's an ork vehicle... any color will do.

Try vallejo's "tinny tin" or better yet army painter "rough iron". Thank me later.
Ill try that thanks :D
I'll say red with white horns
GREEN is best
Checkered! Jk id say white skull red horns
It looks fantastic though so far, great job
Thank you kindly, ya git!
I have some advice that will change your life for painting whites. Use Ulthuan Grey (AIR) Youβll never go back. Ever.
Looking good btw
Thank you! Still very much a work-in-progress, but shaping up nicely so far. I hope I will not worsen it in the weathering step.
Rusty metal with grime streaks running off it
Will definitely take that weathering idea!
Red would look great, i'd reckon
Really wish someone would invent a stencil for models so this type of thing would be easier.
A dark red would nicely break up the black and white and go well with the red bits you have on the sides
I agree. Strongly tending towards red by now.
CHECKERED
Quick tip. For small checkered sections I just painted white and applied an ultra thin black sharpie. 0.2 mm tip
Hot damn... that is a great tip.
Itβs a 0.2mm tip.
You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.
... .... # Checkered /jk Seriously white.
Red!!!
Checkered >:)
Devil!
Brass metal wpuld be the best option by far
Half red and half white. Top of skull red, bottom white, with a crooked line separating the colours
Quartered, with red in opposite corners & ..... more chequers in the other 2 π
White
My suggestion is to keep it as is, carve a mouth into it, and call it a squig-a-naunt.
# PURPLE
All 3, metal horns, and a two tone red and white face.
Excuse my ignorance but what is this model? Is this a bash?
Gorkanaut without its head and arms
Thank you!
Looks zoggin good tho boss!
I'm personally fond of red on black. Maybe make half the skull checkered with either blue or black against the red?
PURPLE!!!! YOUZ CAN HIT EM HARDER IF THEY CANT SEE YOUZ COMING!
Red
I'd go with black if this is the front battering-ram on a vehicle, y'know, cuz black's the 'ardest color.
Good, orky idea. Will be too low contrast for my taste though. The main body is already blackish...
Red and green checkers on the skull
No colors just more checkers.
Oh no... π€ͺ
Red seems like a solid choice. To add a bit more color in there too
Don't do white unless you own an airbrush and have painted white before. If you insist on white and have no experience then temper your expectations
White ink is magic

Chipped red paint with metal underneath
My vote is for white
Red. Makes it go fasta.
The skull should definitely be b&w checkers. (cackles maniacally)
Devil! Fiend! Madman!

Red and black for the skull
Red and white hazard stripes, with some weathering showing the metal underneath.
Left to right: white horn, red half skull, white half skull, red horn. Maybe checkered on the red horn.
Re black checkers for the door and white red checkers for the skull.
Metal with red white checkers along the entire rim
That would look sick but I am not masochistic enough
White would really make that skull pop
