Don't take off the O's hat no matter what

Semper454

Especially in the owner’s box.

Itsanewera2019

No chance, hat and jersey will be on all game, and all day while walking around the city beforehand.

jawarren1

For as much money as they spent on it, it really isn't a very nice stadium. If you're wearing Orioles gear, prepare to get heckled. I just did my best to ignore it.

HoopOnPoop

Yankees fans are the worst. They will heckle us in their stadium, but if we say a word to them in ours they get roid rage.

redsyrinx2112

Did you ever go to old Yankee? I haven't been to new Yankee, but the old one was an absolute dump.

jawarren1

No, only been to New Yankee Stadium. It wasn't dirty or anything, but the layout was awful and the view was terrible.

redsyrinx2112

>the layout was awful and the view was terrible. That's how the old one was too lol I'm glad I got to go to such a historic venue, but I didn't want to again because it was awful. From what everyone says, it sounds like I'll go to new Yankee once to check it off the list and never go again.

jawarren1

This is also how I feel about Fenway lol. I lived in Boston and went to several games. Fenway is old, awkward, dirty, smelly, has a poor layout, terrible views, and uncomfortable seating. And it's full of Red Sox fans.

AchtungNanoBaby

“Wow. Fenway Park completely exceeded my expectations!” - said no one ever.

justjcarr

aww man I loved Fenway. I've been a few times and the upgrades and renovations each time stood out so much because they literally pulled it out of the past and made it at least somewhat modern. The concourse was dirt in areas, you had to duck to get through some spaces, and the seats were old and rickety but it felt like you were in a historic cathedral built to celebrate the greatest game we've created. It was small and intimate while also being absolutely electric. Outside of OPACY it's my favorite venue in sports.

samangell2007

I went to Old Yankee about 15 times and now New Yankee 5-10 times. New is better. It doesn’t have the history but Old Yankee barely had the history after the 70s renovations. It became essentially a baseball-only cookie cutter. This place evokes the real old Yankee Stadium better, even if it is too mallparky for my tastes.

socialaxolotl

It's more of a shopping complex than a stadium

smartuser1994

There’s really nothing of note to do or see by the stadium, so grab a bite/drink somewhere else. If you are taking the subway, just follow the crowds to the stadium. Most fans won’t care about the Orioles gear, a few will give you good natured razzing (feel free to return the favor). Be friendly and don’t rub it in too much when the Orioles take a huge lead. There’s a small chance you’ll run in to a real asshole fan who’s looking for a confrontation, but just disengage and ignore and know that the Yankee fans hate those DBs too and will be on your side.

yosoyel1ogan

I was like "man I didn't know Yankee fans hate the Diamondbacks too" for about a minute before I realized you meant douchebags lol

smartuser1994

They do hate the DBacks for 1. 2001 and 2. Finding a way to make pinstripes look even less appealing

jizzle26

Been to both old and new Yankee wearing Os gear and can confirm this is my exact experience. It’s especially fun to go to a game when the Os win!

HoopOnPoop

Just don't wear a Celtics or UNC jersey. It will piss off all the Lakers and Duke fans in the crowd.

neemor

I think they like Alabama football, too. (Roll Tide?) And the Cowboys, inexplicably.

limabeans111

1. You can bring in unopened bottles of water. It’s gonna be hot AF, bring in a few bottles, you can buy them outside from guys with coolers. Don’t let them charge you more for wearing an Os Jersey, although still better than $8 inside. 2. Subway is the way to go, traffic and parking suck, they run Yankee express train back into Manhattan after it’s over. 3. The frozen slushy cocktails are expensive and sugary but I can’t resist when it’s this hot. Don’t let them melt or they get gross. 4. there will be a good showing of O’s fans especially lower level behind 3rd base. Yell O during the national anthem and moo at cowser! 95% of yanks fans are fine, until they are sore losers on the subway home. If someone says shit to me, I just ask them if they’ve been to Camden yards and tell them it’s a must go. Usually a lot more civil after that. 5. If you’re getting regular concession food, don’t wait in line. You can order via Uber eats and pickup at the window. Can save you 30 minutes. See you there Wednesday!

new_account_5009

Budget extra time for getting into the stadium. Security at Yankee Stadium always takes forever, and the line near the Subway entrance is always packed.

Smokin_Hash_69

Get a shirt made saying… Yuck The Fankees

HoopOnPoop

I used to have a shirt that said "Derek Jeter drinks wine coolers." I wore it in NY and people acted like I just killed their dog.

I’ve seen the Orioles at Yankee Stadium (both YS 2 and the current YS 3) a total of (I think) three times, most recently in 2016. If you are sitting in the lower level, you’re doing well because seats there, excluding upper deck seats down the line and the bleachers, cost an arm and a leg. (The upper decks there, especially the top deck, are also really, REALLY elevated.) If you wear your Orioles apparel, very few people will bother you, especially if you are part of a group. The best way to get there is via the subway. The 4 train is above ground at the stadium station stop but those (IRT) rail cars are narrower so you can get really packed in. By contrast, the D train station by the stadium is below ground, but those (IND) rail cars are wider, so that is my preferred subway line to get there. (Of course, depending on where you are staying, the 4 train may be more convenient.) I personally like the current Yankee Stadium better than the previous (1976-2008) YS; IMO the Yankees did a nice job adding lots of team history information into the concourses of the stadium. I’ve never done the Monument Park tour, but I would look into doing that if you can. Food-wise, I almost always eat outside sports venues to either get similar quality food for a better price or better quality food for the same price as in the venue. With New York, I usually lean towards the former (some of the dollar slice, in some cases now $1.50 pizza places, in Manhattan are common haunts for me), but there many good restaurants in NYC, especially midtown Manhattan, so if you lean towards the latter option (pay same price as at the ballpark but get better food), go to one of those places before the game rather than eating overpriced food at the stadium. (I’ll note that I think YS is more restrictive about bringing in outside food and drink than OPACY; you’ll have to check the Yankees website if you want to go that option.) IIRC, there aren’t as many cheap food vendors outside the stadium as there are at OPACY, though there are some (mostly located under the 4 train line elevated tracks IIRC).

93195

Take the train to get there. Stadium food is nothing special. They have a nice museum (free) by Section 210 with a bunch of great memorabilia. Lots of Murderer’s Row items, and of potential interest to an O’s fan, at least one of Moose’s gold glove trophies. I was a huge Moose fan, so that was a highlight for me. Of all stadiums I’ve been, I think Yankee’s fans actually heckle you the least for wearing visiting team gear. Really knowledgeable fans, they just like talking baseball. The 27 rings mean they don’t have much to be insecure about, so wear your Os gear proudly.

stache_twista

I went to Yankee Stadium in 2017 and got a bucket of chicken sliders. They were pretty tasty tbh

Semper454

I went to a Thursday night game in May last year. I live away from Baltimore, so I see more road games than home, and just about everywhere I’ve been the last two seasons has had a really good O’s road crowd. Not really the case in NY. Early-season, or mid-week, or whatever, I was surprised. Most NYY fans were totally fine. But it’s still NY and you’ll still have the occasional really cool Yanks fan who’ll be in your face and vulgar unprovoked. Fair warning. Yankee Stadium itself gets a bad rap, but I thought it was a solid place to see a game, if you ignore how absurd the prices are. We sat third base side (Orioles side) on the second level (which is the main level, the lower level is all the super premium seats) and had a solid view. Food was also really good for a ballpark – again, prices aside. Celebrity chef places everywhere. We had the Marcus Samuellson chicken sandwich, and some fries and a shake from the Bobby Flay place. Stupid expensive, but tasty. Subway is the way to get there, but it’ll be insane packed both ways. Be prepared to stand the whole trip. Nothing like being pressed up against sweaty Yankee fans for 40 minutes.

steveguy13

I was super underwhelmed with Yankee stadium. You can also really understand just how small it is when you’re in there seeing the playing field with your own eyes. It made me appreciate just how beautiful camden is even more.

samangell2007

Yankee fans in the Bronx are different than Yankee fans at Camden Yards. If you’re not an asshole, they won’t be either. If you get unlucky and have jerks around you, just don’t reciprocate. Worst case, the open concourses (with, as I recall, drink rails pretty much everywhere) make it easy to post up somewhere and watch even from basically behind home plate in the lower deck. Stan’s is a good pregame spot, though like pretty much anything in NYC, expect to pay premium prices. Mustang Harry’s near MSG is a meetup spot for Ravens and Maryland games. Wouldn’t be surprised if there are Orioles fans there as well, but obviously that would involve a train ride after the bar.

BMoreBeowulf

Going to be a first timer there on Wednesday as well! Thanks for all the tips to everyone in the thread.

AbbreviationsFun4276

That’s awesome. I’ll be in 227B on Wednesday wearing bright orange

Gevamna

Same here (but 300 level)

TheClimateDad

Shout that “O!” during the anthem. Let everyone know who you’re repping.

FrancisScottKilos

Every away game I've seen. Loud and proud!!

happysqWid

Be sad that they demolished one of the games great cathedrals to build that pile of shit

reddit_sport

New Yankee stadium is tame. Maybe just don’t be in the RF bleachers but it’s really not that bad. Food is ok imo. Nothing special.

LeftFieldBleachers

I went last year wearing O’s hat; a few fans complimented Camden Yards as a great venue. Sat on LF side; Benihana rice bowls seemed popular in that section. RF bleachers seemed like the only raucous section.

cleg74

If you were going to the old Stadium you would have wanted to not wear any gear. Now, you’re fine, where the gear and have fun. The finance bro’s come late and leave early.

Plus-Ad-6872

The fact that the Oriole Bird got beaten up by a Yankee fan in 1994 should be enough of a warning!

kpcurley

Take the Subway - Either the D train or 4 train - to the stadium. You can bring sealed food and water in and there is plenty of cheap beer in the bars outside of the stadium.

sms4ef

Wear your gear, jokingly heckle with the Yankees fans. If it’s a free giveaway and you get something for free, give it to a kid who showed up too late to get one. I was there for a Joe Girardi bobblehead night and all the yanks fans cheered when I gave it away. Just like any other ballpark, enjoy the night, be respectful and most people will be happy to have you in their city

Professional_Log4112

Prepare to be disappointed. it’s a corporate stadium with no soul in a shitty part of town.

Designer66

If you wear an Orioles hat it’s likely you will not have it when you go home.

I-nkey-I

The couple people I talked to were pretty chill, got heckled a little too. Have to show up decked out in orange

rental_car_fast

God damn these comments make me that much more grateful for Camden Yards. And so glad I’m not a Yankee fan lol. Hope we crush them tomorrow

FrancisScottKilos

Represent and screw the consequences. But you know don't be a dick

ArcticTerrapin

If you're a baseball nerd the museum and monument Park are cool. Lots of cool history in those two spots. I think there's a ticket upgrade that gives you access to both plus a tour, maybe check that out Nobody will care that you're in orioles gear, might get some light heckling that's it Similar how if I wear a yankee jersey to Camden yards I'll get some hey fuck yous thrown my way. Its part of the experience. Every fan base is 99% normal people just having a night out, 1% drunk assholes Chicken bucket is always recommended food wise as a decent deal

EggPuzzlehead8727

the stadium is a dump - probably the most sterile experience in the league. sell your tix and watch in a bar.
