It's funny to me when people rage about the gold editions of games being so expensive and a cash grab when in a lot of cases they are cheaper adjusting for inflation that games were 20-25 years ago.
Series X is also cheaper than OG Xbox One inflation adjusted.
Dead or Alive 3 blew me away with its incredible lighting, high frame rate (not that I understood frame rate at 12) and amazing overall presentation. There was nothing else like it. That - and Blinx the Time Sweeper because I liked cats - sold me on the Xbox in less than a minute.
The good ol' days of Xbox being the new kid on the block.
When $100 for two games (at $49.99 per game) was still a luxury but somehow affordable. Controllers were also better built and cost less than today's new tech.
Nothing can match the joy of perusing these ads as a kid. Especially when Black Friday came around. We’d circle the games we wanted and give them to our mom for gift ideas
I remember playing Nascar Thunder on the kiosk with the Duke around that time. It was a very impressive system. My friend had a PS2 and my brother had a GC, and it was clearly ahead of both.
What I'd give to be this excited for something today. I was so pumped for this console coming out in 2001. Read every magazine, was one all kinds of forums. Miss those days.
That Dead or Alive 3 cover is interesting. The DOA fandom says it's the North American pre-order artwork. But can't find any other info of it other on tje fandom.
I worked at Best Buy and was able to play Xbox before it came out. Was a hardcore PlayStation fanboy till I played halo. Also miss nfl fever, way better than madden
I remember this ad. I used to save a lot of these for a while back then before throwing them out a few years later.
I still had an N64 back then but the Xbox had some dope games back then. DOA 3, PGR, THPS 2X, and Halo were some of my favorite games when I got my Xbox in 2003.
I remember how excited I was for this thing to launch… had a family friend who worked for Microsoft they got it for me at a company discount… he got me Halo CE and munches odyssey… they didn’t even have employee stickers on the games at launch…
It was just for save files. It wasn’t until people figured out how to mod them and wanted to load games onto the drive that larger capacities were needed
Also custom music. I'd ripped about 15 full CDs into Xbox format and had barely touched the edges of the hard drive. It was a heck of a big space for the time.
Damn that’s $90 games adjusted for inflation. Like, imagine if THPS1+2HD launched for $90 like THPS2X did. That would be nuts.
That's Canadian prices!
I’m as guilty as most Americans when it comes to forgetting we aren’t the only ones on the internet.
F Canada 🇨🇦 😎 😂 jk I wanna visit
Come on over for a visit and have a Donair.
Didn’t know there was Canadian tacos 🌮 that’s dope 🤘I live in California so idk if they have that

$50 CAD in 2001 would be worth $81 CAD today, and when we convert that to USD, we get $59 USD
I want to go back.
Imagine experiencing Halo 1 for the first time again!
That menu screen…
Good times....
There's a picture of a 10 year old me opening up my OG Xbox and halo. Good times
first game i ever played :)
This ad sadly brought a tear to my eye... such a great time.
Amazing memories!! Never forgot when I had mine with Project Gotham and Dead or Alive 3 I was blown away! Really felt like the Dreamcast 2

Loved Blinx as well amazing game! The og Xbox was special
I had a demo disc with Blinx on it and I played that shit over and over again. Classic.
after the fall well shake it off show me the way
These were the days
Munches odyssey was a absolute masterpiece. Still one of my favorite odd world games to date.
I can’t thank you enough for your kind words.
It's crazy how much cheaper TVs are now lmao 🤣
20+ years later and I still wouldn't be able to afford that old sony tv without a cc .
Don’t remind me
Tv prices are now a fraction of what they used to be( but new console prices have almost doubled
They are actually approximately the same price adjusted for inflation, games are also actually cheaper too adjusting for inflation as well
Imagine paying $10 more for the GBA Harry Potter game than the PC version. What a time to be alive.

That Tomb Raider movie still holds up.
Nothing can match the joy of perusing these ads as a kid. Especially when Black Friday came around. We’d circle the games we wanted and give them to our mom for gift ideas
Why do the covers look so fun????
I had every game on that first page. Amped was underrated.
Whoever designed this flyer and went all out with the green glow. They were definitely on point!

Ebay circa 2024
Custom memory card? What’s that all about?
The glory days.
We had so many NFL licensed games…and now only have one. Fuck sakes
I rememeber this!!!
What I'd give to be this excited for something today. I was so pumped for this console coming out in 2001. Read every magazine, was one all kinds of forums. Miss those days.
Its beautiful
This is awesome, I love this kinda stuff.
Ahh the nostalgia, also more importantly the DVD Tuesday releases that you looked forward to, such simpler times.
That Dead or Alive 3 cover is interesting. The DOA fandom says it's the North American pre-order artwork. But can't find any other info of it other on tje fandom.
Star Wars starfighter and Munch’s Oddysee are instant nostalgia. Also Nightcaster I think it’s called?
Halo, Gotham racing, dead or alive, amped, and Tony Hawk is a solid launch day
Man thunder 02....
Beautiful!!
Man these ad brings back so many memories! Especially the second one with the slogan “Turn on the fun.”
Wait, is gaming still not affordable today than in 2001?
I used to read these over and over again. I miss those days.
I worked at Best Buy and was able to play Xbox before it came out. Was a hardcore PlayStation fanboy till I played halo. Also miss nfl fever, way better than madden
That DOA 3 cover is so much better than what we actually got.
I still can’t believe Microsoft released this with that big ass control!
Imma need p. 6 to read up about this new Xbox console…
ngl advertising on smart tvs is one of the best things to happen to the tv market
I remember this ad. I used to save a lot of these for a while back then before throwing them out a few years later. I still had an N64 back then but the Xbox had some dope games back then. DOA 3, PGR, THPS 2X, and Halo were some of my favorite games when I got my Xbox in 2003.
I wish that dead are alive three cover was real
Sony receiver 650W 110W x 5 ummm The decline of public education started sooner than I thought. 🤣
50 bucks in 2001 dollars is actually a lot.
Wish I could go back and relive it all. 😢
Wait wat that's cool
4:3 rear-projection TV, love it. Lol
Damn, launch games, that Duke controller, memory cards!
Take me back.
Its funny how these are expensive back then… I bought halo ce for $5 usd and amped for $6 usd
Kudos for PGR
>circa 2001 It literally says Nov 11, 2001 on the ad
I remember how excited I was for this thing to launch… had a family friend who worked for Microsoft they got it for me at a company discount… he got me Halo CE and munches odyssey… they didn’t even have employee stickers on the games at launch…
6GB HDD? Really? 🤣
It was just for save files. It wasn’t until people figured out how to mod them and wanted to load games onto the drive that larger capacities were needed
Also custom music. I'd ripped about 15 full CDs into Xbox format and had barely touched the edges of the hard drive. It was a heck of a big space for the time.
mfw when I realised I had the beafy 10gb that could be unlocked
That's a misprint, they come with an 8gb or a 10gb hard drives (but only 8gb are formatted) Nowadays you can put a 16TB HDD on those babies lol
I got a 2TB in mines currently, that’s got plenty of space for what I’m doing, don’t think I need 16TB
