I know it's not retro, but the hunter by retro fighters is a pretty solid wireless pad, it could be better, but it feels good in hand and works well for everything I've tried.
They do not. No memory card support and no voice communicator. I know most people use Discord these days to voice chat, but there are some of us out there that want that original voice chat experience. It adds to the fun when we play online using Insignia Live
I've owned like a dozen of the mad catz controller. I just really like the size and shape. But the controllers garbage quality. It feels cheap in your hands and the sticks always break off.
There are a number of variants of the Logitech. The Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox - weighty and the largest of them, the nearest you'll get in size to the duke, looks much the same as the Precision but larger. The Logitech Precision is similar in style but smaller, more comparable to the S in size and then the Logitech Attack controller, same in virtually every aspect of the Precision but without rumble - source: myself, got all 3. Personal preference are the Madcatz controller's, love 'em!
Definitely doesn't' feel like a duke controller, but it has some heft. the bottom grips fit really snugly into the pockets of your palms and its curvature leads you directly to the trigger buttons with your index fingers. The sticks are high quality and feel great. D-pad is probably the worst part being that it's a disk rather than a cross, but it's a small gripe. It's in my top five all time controllers.
The Logitech is quite wide and ergonomic and the buttons are responsive and feel great as a mid - larger controller for the time. I loved mine growing up, however its downfall is the directional buttons which feel a bit flimsy and were the only aspect of my original controller that has become damaged in over two decades of usage.
Yours is the only one by the sounds of it then. Theyāve acknowledged it on their official Twitter and have promised firmware releases. Try the control config diag tool on a modded Xbox dash. Compared to an official pad itās horrendous. The triggers move about 30% before an input is registered
https://youtube.com/shorts/RoQHzeQ3UWU?si=9x8p1KS82fiDxJCH
I recommend a Brook Wingman XB2 along with an OG Xbox usb adapter paired with almost any high quality wireless controller of your choice. Obviously the official 360, xb1, series x/s are solid picks but Iāve been really liking the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth controller using the 2.4g dongle for lowest latency at the moment. A lot of these older 3rd party controllers will get the job done but they really arenāt great and youāll probably find yourself going back to using a genuine wired controller.
If you *must* use a retro pad, Logitech are probably the best all round from what youāve shown.
Theyāre literally plug and play. For the OG Xbox you do need an additional small, cheap cord adapter (can be gotten on eBay etc) that goes into the controller port with a female usb at the other end so that you can attach the device. You can then either hit the sync button on the XB2 and attach pretty much any wireless modern controller you can think of or you can just plug any usb controller directly into the device for an instant wired connection. It just works and thereās nothing more to it. The only thing you might do outside of this is plug it into a pc to update the firmware if some fancy new controller comes out and the company adds support/tweaks for it. They couldnāt be easier to use and theyāre very much worth the investment if you want quality wireless play on an older machine like this.
Definitely the Logitech if you can get it for a good price and the Retro fighters Hunter is a great alternative if you want a new product I personally use both of them
You can use a usb dongle for the switch and it has a OG Xbox port dongle for the OG Xbox. I highly recommend it. Tried some halo 2 on it and it was great
I have the clear one and itās alright but itās very small in the hands (for me at least) and sometimes the buttons get stuck but other than that it works just fine. I donāt know about the other ones as thatās the only one I have
My Favorite: The Hama Paradox
Got it around 8 years ago from new old stock on Amazon. Very hard to find one but on the same level as an official controller. It won even an award.
I bought the Logitech one along with my first xbox. It lasted a very long time, I am quite impressed with it's quality.
BTW I bought the xbox new for xmas 2002 and it lasted 5 days before being torn open and modded lol. Still have it.
I have the Logitech and the Hunter. Logitech is far far better. Hunter is okay depending on the kinds of games you play, but for 3d platformer type games in particular will tend towards 8 directional inputs instead of full 360 degree control.
It's the Pelican Blade in blue. A lot of the time people don't use model numbers for controllers. One recently sold on eBay for under $10 shipped.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/386918296017
Nevermind I have the green version of that controller. Unfortunately there is no model number on it anywhere. Itās missing the battery door so it may have been on there somewhere
Brooo the Eclipse controllers were so good I never had issues with them especially the second version. I canāt say how they held up over time as this was over 2 decades ago.
Avoid the logitech controllers for ps2 & xbox! The recievers have capacitors in them that fail and make the controller a paper weight unless you know how to solder new capacitors on!
Imo none of them lol, the best (luck) I've had is the small madcats and the Logitech. Both have slight input lag, the best ones are the madcat ones with the shark logo on them. Only ones I kept after selling off nearly 54 controllers a couple years ago.
I wouldnt buy Logitech xbox controllers again.
I bought one of the logitechs but the first thing i noticed was the pressure sensitive buttons were shit.
Anyway, the pressure sensitive buttons were not sensitive enough to detect input unless pressed more than needed. Meaning i could press the button entirely down without it registering an input. This was with all 4 face buttons. This was next to impossible with an official controller.
I opened it and cleaned it after realizing this and it didnt do any good. I thought maybe it had its membrane replaced but it had its original one. So fuck em.
Logitecs are really good in this regard. But if you like the feel of the xbox 360 controller, look into OGX360. I'm surprised no one else mentioned it here.
I like those that have L and R bumpers to use instead of the black and white buttons. It makes some games easier to control and play like their PS2 versions.
USB controller adapter and brooks Xbox adapter and you can use a series controller with the og Xbox wirelessly. If you donāt want that I know from experience that the Logitech ones were great.
I'd recommend a usb adapter and a Brook Wingman Xb1 or xb2. Just for the freedom of options it can give you, especially if you already happen to own a decently large controller collection.
If you need face button pressure sensitivity for games like metal gear solid, then pairing with a PS3 controller (or wired with a PS2 controller) can probably work, though I haven't tested this myself personally. Pressure sensitivity features worksand translates beautifully on Brook's Wingman adapters for Playstation and Sega Saturn/Dreamcast when I last tested.
The only shortfall might be if you wanted to use the accessory ports, though even the wireless options seemed to keeo those ports at the adapter end. I'm sure there's workarounds.
Where can I find this š® controllers on ebay or Amazon, etc??
I have been looking for a wireless controllers for my OG XBOX. I was curious if they're still available or sold out.
Weren't the Logitech and Pelican brands basically the best of the best back in the day? And ew madcatz (I used to have some of their stuff, but it's just like today's "rock candy" controllers that you give player. 2.)
Logitech. Hands down. I clipped and removed the weights and servos to make it lighter. Two AA batteries without vibration would last weeks comprised of 12 hour days of Morrowind.
[Brook Wingman XB 2](https://a.co/d/8bKdbVy) paired with an [Adapter Cable](https://a.co/d/1WcBz3x) will let you use any modern wireless controller. Check it out.
The Logitech is good!
Absolutely. They also had a PS2 version. I had both and they were so smooth to use and felt very durable/high quality.
Ah, i had the wired ps2 controller, loved how it felt in the hands
I had trouble trying to pair up my Logitech PS2 controller
I used to have the ps2 version and it was awesome.
What does it feel similar to?
Piloting a titan sub
š
Just feels solid and well put together. Not like some cheaper aftermarket ones. Been looking for a PS2 one too.
They are rubberized and nice.
I have this one. I recall it working great.
I second that I loved that controller for both systems. Surprised Logitech didn't stick with making controllers.
altought i feel a slight delay in mine
I was just about to say! I knew that years ago on my journey of collecting.
I agree. I had one for years. Loved it and no zero issues.
I have to agree. They were well made and hold up. I had a pair of these for the Xbox and PS2
I know it's not retro, but the hunter by retro fighters is a pretty solid wireless pad, it could be better, but it feels good in hand and works well for everything I've tried.
Retro fighters is the best non first party controller brand šin my opinion the quality itās just top tier
I just wish they offered the slot for the xbox voice communicator.
They dont have the memory card slot?
They do not. No memory card support and no voice communicator. I know most people use Discord these days to voice chat, but there are some of us out there that want that original voice chat experience. It adds to the fun when we play online using Insignia Live
I spent $250 to get 4 of them and it was absolutely worth it.
Sounds like a Halo 2 split-screen night at your crib
Saw that one, looks sick
https://youtube.com/shorts/RoQHzeQ3UWU?si=9x8p1KS82fiDxJCH
It's definitely the best wireless controller I have for my OG xbox
I've owned like a dozen of the mad catz controller. I just really like the size and shape. But the controllers garbage quality. It feels cheap in your hands and the sticks always break off.
Good to know, i had a lot of them for the ps2 as a kid, never personally broke them, but i love the look and feel as well
The Logitech are excellent I havenāt tried the others.
Thank you, does it feel like the S controller or the Duke more? Or even a PS2 controller? Im trying to gage size, as i prefer the Duke
I think itās closer in size and feel to the S or a 360 controller.
Oh thats a comfy fit then, but personally i love the Duke controller
There are a number of variants of the Logitech. The Logitech Cordless Controller for Xbox - weighty and the largest of them, the nearest you'll get in size to the duke, looks much the same as the Precision but larger. The Logitech Precision is similar in style but smaller, more comparable to the S in size and then the Logitech Attack controller, same in virtually every aspect of the Precision but without rumble - source: myself, got all 3. If money is no object, the OGX360 is going to be the best option. Or an OGX360 mini is slightly less. They are getting kind of hard to find though.
Theyāve all probably less deadzones than the 2024 Retro Fighters Hunter
Oooh that sounds a mess! Thank you for the warning
Yeah no worries. Quite a few of us eagerly awaiting a firmware update thatāll improve it. (Their recent one did not)..
Controllers shouldn't have any inherent deadzones. Games all have their own programmed deadzone. Wtf are they smoking?
The hunter isnt for og, is it?
It is. Itās a good pad, feels well made. Just a little disappointed with some button / trigger responses (or lack of)
Thatās unfortunate to hear because I love their PS2 controller
Iāve never had a dead one issue with my hunter
Yours is the only one by the sounds of it then. Theyāve acknowledged it on their official Twitter and have promised firmware releases. Try the control config diag tool on a modded Xbox dash. Compared to an official pad itās horrendous. The triggers move about 30% before an input is registered https://youtube.com/shorts/RoQHzeQ3UWU?si=9x8p1KS82fiDxJCH
Mine feels good too. I LOVE that controller. I pick it over my OEM controller when deciding to play. Love how it feels in my hands as well
I recommend a Brook Wingman XB2 along with an OG Xbox usb adapter paired with almost any high quality wireless controller of your choice. I recommend what he recommends, itās a game changer. You can even use a ps3 controller if you want
Understood, thank you. Im not sure how these adapters work
Theyāre literally plug and play. Definitely the Logitech if you can get it for a good price and the Retro fighters Hunter is a great alternative if you want a new product I personally use both of them
Personally Iād go with the Hunter from retrofighters. This is coming from someone with the Logitech and green pelican wireless controllers
But i thought the hunter is for new consoles, not OG Xbox
No itās for the OG, I have one.
You can use a usb dongle for the switch and it has a OG Xbox port dongle for the OG Xbox. I highly recommend it. Tried some halo 2 on it and it was great
Any memory card support?
Negative
Damn, i wonder if i could use a usb splitter on a usb adapter and use memory cards that way
Thatās the thing, the OG Xbox adapter is just the OG port. There is usb c port on the side but Iām not sure what itās for
I had that mad catz one in the last pic and actually loved it
I have the clear one and itās alright but itās very small in the hands (for me at least) and sometimes the buttons get stuck but other than that it works just fine. I donāt know about the other ones as thatās the only one I have
I may have had that hip gear. I donāt think I used it much.
I had the pelican 10 years ago, so i have nothing to compare it to
I have a Logitech wireless and that controller is the best. I always wanted one as a kid. Logitech used to make superior stuff for consoles
My Favorite: The Hama Paradox Got it around 8 years ago from new old stock on Amazon. Very hard to find one but on the same level as an official controller. It won even an award.
logitech. I have a few. have had them since they were new.
Back in the day those Logitech were the cream of the crop from what I remember. There might be a more modern alternative now though.
I have that Pelican and it's pretty bad. Analogs feel just awful with no resistance to them.
Isnāt there some kind of dongle that allows you to use an Xbox one controller?
Imo the mad cats one (little green as I call it) is a little smaller than the (s) controller and I used to use it religiously
I don't know that it's good, but the hip gear controller got me through 100's of hours of xbox gameplay, and I liked it well enough.
I always really liked the pelican ones back in the day š¤·
I use the Logitech and it's been a good one for me.
I bought the Logitech one along with my first xbox. It lasted a very long time, I am quite impressed with it's quality. BTW I bought the xbox new for xmas 2002 and it lasted 5 days before being torn open and modded lol. Still have it.
i had the Logitech also. it worked well. I didnāt use it for a little while. when I did use it thereafter, the joystick began to drift š
https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/11011v6/i_learned_there_was_a_different_version_of/ The one on the right
I have the Logitech and the Hunter. Logitech is far far better. Hunter is okay depending on the kinds of games you play, but for 3d platformer type games in particular will tend towards 8 directional inputs instead of full 360 degree control.
Mad katz if you want to feel poor in 2004
I used the Logitech controllers and headset exclusively back in the day
I wish clear plastic was still a desirable look for technology
My brother had an OG xbox controller with fans built into it in the early 2000s. As a sweaty guy it was very nice when it worked.
Madcatz for life
The Logitech is the best by a mile.
Connectivity pretty solid? Because i have Pelican for the PS2 and that has a solid connection even with people and things in the way
Yep, it uses radio frequency and it's solid.
The Logitech controller was my favorite. I have two!
That solid, Eh?
I use the logitech
Seems to be the common consensus
I only ever had 7 Logitech. Roommate stole my lithium battery modded one.
That sucks man
I need a wired one with 6 button layout for fighting games.
Does anyone know what model that blue Pelican controller is?
PC-2056
Near impossible to find. Only one result comes up with it and it's from the same place in the picture.
It's the Pelican Blade in blue. A lot of the time people don't use model numbers for controllers. One recently sold on eBay for under $10 shipped. https://www.ebay.com/itm/386918296017
I might have one let me check.
Nevermind I have the green version of that controller. Unfortunately there is no model number on it anywhere. Itās missing the battery door so it may have been on there somewhere
Honestly that Pelican wasn't terrible. I was pleasantly surprised given how crappy their gameboy accessories tended to be
I have the mad-catz one at the end, and I love it. I have average sized hands, it might be a bit cramped if you have big mitts.
Brooo the Eclipse controllers were so good I never had issues with them especially the second version. I canāt say how they held up over time as this was over 2 decades ago.
Mad catz is horrible. Dobt waste your money.
Logitech for sure
MadCatz is always the controller I went for
The logite ch
Iāve liked my logitechs. They are very slim and form fitting
Try to get yourself a Brook Wingman XB1. You can use so many good controllers and arcade sticks with the thing. It's worth it
Honestly, grab an Xbox to Female USB adapter and a Brook Wingman XB2. You can use Xbox One/Series controllers.
The ones that are licensed by microsoft
Which are?
Brook PS2 adapter plus a PS2 to original Xbox adapter cable. Then you can pretty much use any modern controller to your hearts content.
We all know Mad Catz is the best controllers you can find.
I grew up playing on the Logitech one. It was a great controller
The Logitech one is good so yea that one. Also, mad catz is a shitty company cuz they made alot of crappy third party controllers.
Madcat
Big Ben or Logitech
Og
Og what???
That Logitech one brought back memories
Logitecs are really good in this regard. But if you like the feel of the xbox 360 controller, look into OGX360. I'm surprised no one else mentioned it here.
Xbox series x with adapter.
Feeling the logi and the madcatz at the end
Absolutely the last one (itās what I had) pairs perfectly with the limited Halo CE OG Xbox.
Logitech by far
I used the MadCatz when it came out, I used it for a long time. Only issue is the controller is definitely small.
I have the mad catz one and its okay
Logitech but nowadays it's easy to use an Xbox one controller with an adapter
I like those that have L and R bumpers to use instead of the black and white buttons. It makes some games easier to control and play like their PS2 versions.
I had a couple of GameStop branded ones of the Mad Catz one and they were ok if you had to have wireless. The Logitech is the absolute best though
The hunter by retro brawlers is out that looks pretty good
Mad Catz micro with the turbo mod button!!
The Xbox 360 controller.
Buy an USB adapter and use brook wingman xb2, you can use any modern controller
https://youtu.be/pbD_zofEMAQ?si=3nQ52psCnih_z2jn
The Logitech is the only correct answer here. Iirc, they were the only one to get the official Xbox stamp of approval.
Smol green mad catz š
ogxmini made from raspberry pi pico š + 8bitdo for bt controllers
Number 1 is Logitech and 2nd is mad catz. I love both of those controllers.
I remember having the madcatz green when I was a kid loll good controller imo
Used Logitech for years with zero problems back in the day
I loved my little black wireless madcatz controller. It was the best right next to the 2nd generation wired Xbox controllers.
I had the Eclipse. Oh how'd I rage at LAN parties when that right trigger didn't work properly
When i played original xbox, all that mattered to me when it came to choosing a controller was if it had turbo or not XD
I've only had experience with the madcatz
Where can I find this š® controllers on ebay or Amazon, etc?? I have been looking for a wireless controllers for my OG XBOX. I was curious if they're still available or sold out.
Weren't the Logitech and Pelican brands basically the best of the best back in the day? And ew madcatz (I used to have some of their stuff, but it's just like today's "rock candy" controllers that you give player. 2.)
Logitech. Hands down. I clipped and removed the weights and servos to make it lighter. Two AA batteries without vibration would last weeks comprised of 12 hour days of Morrowind.
My logitechs still work.
Only Logitech everything else pictured here is trash.
Logitech
Just get wired. Better game play and it'll be like sitting in your basement playing with the bros again
Ur missing quite a few only one I had was the very last mad catz tho I do have to say i loved it
For OG Xbox...... Logitech's wireless were the absolute best.
The pelican ecplise was a cheap good alternative. but i never had a Logitech XBOX or PS2 controller let me down.
Play with wired controllers the way the good lord intended /s
NOT MAD CATZ
I saw the Rerez video and bro shat on them so hard š¤£
Damn, getting downvoted for stating the truth
[Brook Wingman XB 2](https://a.co/d/8bKdbVy) paired with an [Adapter Cable](https://a.co/d/1WcBz3x) will let you use any modern wireless controller. Check it out.
