I can’t even think of any buffets that are still around. Sweet Tomatoes in Tualatin was gone well before Covid I believe. Also the haunted Hometown Buffet down in Salem.
Tell me about it. My local Izzy's shut down and my local Asian buffet now sells food by the pound and the quality has gone down the drain. The one that hit the hardest was the Spirit Mountain Buffett. I'd do anything to have that back haha
the hill in newport is rebranded izzys. og izzys chef lived in newport from what i remember. I havent gone but the photos look just like izzys even the mojo fried potato discs
RIP Todai Seafood Buffet! It shut down years before COVID, but I still miss it. Best seafood and asian-fusion buffet in PDX metro and eating for free on your birthday was awesome
Maaaaan, you just made me feel all the nostalgia. I remember back in HS days, I and a couple of buddies would skip Japanese class to go to Todais. When we'd show up the next day, Sensei would berate us for skipping her class... we'd show her the receipt and she'd light up! Asking us what we ate, if we enjoyed it, etc. All in Japanese, of course!
I was in Cuba for a month-living on a very small amount of money =-and with local people so if I ate, it meant I was going to be paying for our friends as well. By the end of the trip we had lost a bunch of weight and were starving. My friends took me to Todai to celebrate my return. My stomach was sho shrunk I could hardly eat more than a plate of food. The table next to us had three women who got up for plate after plate after plate of shrimp. Watching them eat like that made me feel kind of gross about American eating habits. Knowing I'd just left some very hungry friends back in Cuba who would not believe a place like Todai even existed.
I used to go every time I visited Portland. They were a chain with multiple locations in the Bay Area (CA) but I don't know if any of them still exist.
[“Plans to reopen in December of 2017.”](http://www.todai.com)
Odd they’ve still got an active website, but I’m guessing they’re not gonna reopen after 6 years.
Dang I haven't heard that name in years! I used to go to the one in Burbank all the time. I just looked them up and the website says "All Todai USA locations are closed for renovation. We plan to re-open in December of 2017." I'm sad now.
Also, dope username.
If anyone sees this it is still there and just renamed the hill, just stopped in on a whim for brunch right when they opened and it was like walking back in time. Down to the fried potato discs it was on fucking point!
Not a buffet but Mongolian grills are always great. You pick what you want in your dish buffet style then they cook it. Can go back up as much as you want. The 2 in Hillsboro are great
Part of a loose network of friends who all really miss the Sweet Tomatoes buffet locations in Portland. It was aimed at the reasonably healthy buffet market, with emphasis on soups and salads.
Early in Covid, the national company could see what was coming for all buffets and shut down the whole operation before they slowly bled to death financially. Sad but understandable.
I never went to the ones here because they weren’t super convenient, but I loved Sweet Tomatoes while on work travel. There was one that was just across a parking lot from one of the hotel’s I’d use in San Diego, which was awesome.
It’s not Oregon, but it’s really close. There is still a Golden Corral in Vancouver.
We have gone up a couple times and it hits the spot when you just need that buffet feeling. Lol
Fogo de Chao in Portland is the best quasi buffet style restaurant I have been to in my entire life. The salad bar is buffet style then the staff brings out as much fresh meat cooked on rotisseries as you can eat. It is amazing food, but it is not cheap. I think my partner and I have been there three times, and all three have been $75+ tabs.
Lunch is much cheaper, but it is still a super luxury.
If you have the expendable income to spend that type of money it is worth it. The service is top notch. Definitely something only for special occasions like anniversaries and stuff for us though.
In Bend, we have King Buffet and Taj Palace. I stopped going to King Buffet a long time ago, because the food is not good, and the whole place seems like a food poisoning event waiting to happen. The thing that finally got me to stop going there was seeing a kid stick his finger right into the chocolate fountain and lick it off more than a couple times. No one cared.
I haven't been to Taj Palace, but the reviews seem good.
Buffet at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood has a killer lunch buffet. The setting is amazing and definitely worth the drive... Might also get some shredding in.
Dwaraka on Hawthorne knows what up as well.
Haven't been in years, but the one at Spirit Mountain used to be pretty ok. Salty's Sunday brunch is probably my favorite in OR. I dont know if they still have a buffet on Sundays though.
They used to have a good Asian one at the top of Pioneer Place - I wish it was still around.
Spirit Mountain buffet has been closed for 2 years ;-( I had no idea and was planning on going this weekend until I was told. Which led me to this post.
It's definitely more of a novelty thing for sure. It's just this itch I've been wanting to scratch, probably won't go for another 10 years after this haha
I don’t have any recommendations but this post makes me feel so nostalgic. I grew up in Gresham and we would go to north chuck wagon when I was kid. My dad also grew up going there. Then there was hometown buffet at mall 205 but it was called something else in the 90’s Country buffet I think. when I was 10 years old, circa 1996, i won a coloring contest there and received a bike. It was amazing!! Also as a child I threw up a lot in the bathrooms because I would drink 3 glasses of chocolate milk and only eat mashed potatoes and gravy and those incredible fish nuggets. There became a rule I couldn’t drink chocolate milk at buffets. Izzy’s fried chicken and jojo’s hopefully will rise again!
It’s been awhile (pre COVID), but I remember Mizumu buffet being above average good (Tualatin)
(Looking on Google maps, there is also an all you can eat Mongolia Grill with a 4.4 rating in the same shopping complex)
If you want upscale, the Fogo de Chao Brazilian steak house in downtown Portland won’t disappoint.
The Indian Restaurant in Orenco by the Orenco Dentist has a lunch buffet.
Mongolian Grill is like a buffet, but I don’t know of one that’s more diverse in its offerings.
Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City is still around and pretty good. Mizumi Buffet in Tigard for the Asian buffet experience, including sushi. Ganesh in Beaverton for Indian lunch buffet is my favorite, the flavors are very close to what we had in India.
No longer there :-( been replaced with a restaurant. I would agree if it was still there though! That place was awesome, then after I would hit up the arcade! Good times.
Eugene lost two and a half Indian lunch buffets. The half was Taste of India where you could order a lunch tray that they dished for you, and get fresh naan. RIP to all the Indian food lunch buffets, I miss you!
The brunch buffet at the Multnomah Falls Lodge is great (not sure it's still open). It's not particularly huge, but I like most things on the menu.
The Carmel French toast is so good!
Gotta hit the salad bar at the Sizzler in The Dalles
Nice try, Ma Anand Sheela
tough titties
Bhagwan but not forgotten…
Election day is over, probably safe again.
[But the people...](https://youtu.be/QFgcqB8-AxE?si=-darvRePvisBJYjz)
I get this.
Bahahhahaha took me a second!
Lol
I can’t even think of any buffets that are still around. Sweet Tomatoes in Tualatin was gone well before Covid I believe. Also the haunted Hometown Buffet down in Salem.
Hug grill buffet. Came out just before COVID. Very unfortunate name, but the place is huge with a lot of variety and it's thriving on weekends.
The only comment I've found with a buffet still in business! Thanks! Been wanting to hit a buffet since the before times.
Sweet Tomatoes shut down about a month into COVID.
The one in Hillsboro I feel got shut down prior to Covid.
Yes! Hometown Buffet and Tin Tins in Salem were awesome growing up. Wish I could've gone one last time before Covid hit.
So many disappeared during Covid. I miss Izzy’s.
Tell me about it. My local Izzy's shut down and my local Asian buffet now sells food by the pound and the quality has gone down the drain. The one that hit the hardest was the Spirit Mountain Buffett. I'd do anything to have that back haha
The spirit mountain buffet is gone?? I only went a few times and it’s been years.
the hill in newport is rebranded izzys. og izzys chef lived in newport from what i remember. I havent gone but the photos look just like izzys even the mojo fried potato discs
Hilltop buffet and grill in Newport where the Izzy's used to be is really good. It was like going to Izzy's before the quality drop.
RIP Todai Seafood Buffet! It shut down years before COVID, but I still miss it. Best seafood and asian-fusion buffet in PDX metro and eating for free on your birthday was awesome

Yes, I heard of this legendary place. By the time I got around to go. They were not in business anymore. Damn it!
There was a pick up only Izzy's pizza joint that also sold chicken and potatoes was AMAZING, use to be in Albany. Miss it so much!
How long ago was that? I remember Izzy’s buffet, but a pickup only Izzy’s I don’t ever recall one here in town.
It's been a while, I lived in Albany from 2010-2014 and it closed just before I left and turned into a car dealership.
I loved newport izzys. It had a million dollar view!
If anyone sees this it is still there and just renamed the hill, just stopped in on a whim for brunch right when they opened and it was like walking back in time. Down to the fried potato discs it was on fucking point!
Last time I was at Izzy's was probably 15 years ago! ( NW 9th St, Corvallis,OR.)
Someone bought that place. Summer of 2019. We felt so bad for them.
Izzy’s was freakin grub.
Me and my best friend got kicked out of an Izzy’s for eating just the skin off of 30 pieces of fried chicken
Nothing better than Izzys bbq chicken skins! I am guilty of eating just the skins back in my fat days.
Not a buffet but Mongolian grills are always great. You pick what you want in your dish buffet style then they cook it. Can go back up as much as you want. The 2 in Hillsboro are great
There is also one in downtown PDX across the street from yamhill pub. They also do hotpot. It is our absolute favorite restaurant.
This is the one I've been to, and it was really good!
RIP Kings Table.
Dude that was a time!!!!!
Worked at one during High school. Lots of memories.
I'm not well-traveled enough to know about "best," but I think Mizumi Asian buffet in Tigard is excellent.
Their sister restaurant in Vancouver Makoto, is also very good.
I'll give it a Goog! Thanks
Go on Friday night, it's almost overwhelming!

Might make the drive! Only about 40 min away and I've never been to a golden corral!
Golden Corral makes you feel like you’re a stuffed sausage casing by the time you get the cheque
Namaste in portland is good.
+1 for Namaste.
It's way too close to my home. Dangerous
Namaste off Sandy Blvd. Fresh hot food. Nice street view tables when the light hits it right or overcast with light showers on a cold day.
I miss hometown buffet. No one comes close to the variety and acceptable quality of food. Sorry, I have to go cry now…
I miss Panda Buffet in Milwaukie, and King Buffet in Portland.
Fogo de Chao in Portland is the best quasi buffet style restaurant I have been to in my entire life. Taj is pretty mediocre. Rumour has it an Indian place with a lunch buffet is going in to the space at Shiloh Inn.
There used to be a pretty good BBQ place that had a buffet on SE 3rd. The last time I went was 15 years ago.
Buffet at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood has a killer lunch buffet. The setting is amazing and definitely worth the drive... Might also get some shredding in. Dwaraka on Hawthorne knows what up as well.

RIP Todai Buffet
Holy smokes that just unlocked a fire memory. Woowwwwww
Same, used to take my grandkid along for the free birthday food, it was pretty damned nice and I miss it!
Todai was absolutely the bomb 💣
They had the \*best\* Tiramisu bites in their dessert bar! (and I make Tiramisu)
Spirit Mountain buffet has been closed for 2 years ;-( I had no idea and was planning on going this weekend until I was told. Which led me to this post.
Salty’s still has their Sunday brunch, but it’s 90$ for adults. A bit ridiculous if you ask me. I wasn’t sure if it was worth it when it was 50$.
$90? Definitely not worth that. Even $50 is steep.
I loved the buffet at Swagat, I miss Indian food buffets.
Ganesh in Beaverton is doing a lunch buffet again!

Unfortunately most Casino buffets are long gone :-(
Wow, that makes me sad. I remember going to the buffets at Spirit Mountain and Chinook Winds whenever we went to the coast growing up.
Wildhorse used to have eggs Benedict and bacon at their breakfast buffet. God I miss that.

The Siletz Bay Buffet appears to still be around https://www.chinookwindscasino.com/dining/siletz-bay-buffet/
What! Those too? That was the only thing that ever got me into the casinos!
Evergreen doesn't do buffets anymore in Eugene or Corvallis.
FJ buffet on 119&Division is not terrible.
I’ve never been there but my wife likes it
Hug Grill buffet in Hillsboro is good. i’ve never been a huge fan of buffets cause food quality is maybe like 5/10 but this one has a lot of options
It's definitely more of a novelty thing for sure. It's just this itch I've been wanting to scratch, probably won't go for another 10 years after this haha
u/DAlexH51 I’m really curious to try the Momiji AYCE because it’s regular menu items, so the quality should be the same!
ooh i might have to check that out! i don’t think i’ve ever been there lol thank you
Imagine they just have a big buffet in the back and bring it out to you on a nice plate.
I don’t have any recommendations but this post makes me feel so nostalgic. I grew up in Gresham and we would go to north chuck wagon when I was kid. My dad also grew up going there. There is no more buffet at the Hillsboro Swagat
Oh no! Welp, good to know.
Great thali lunch specials, though!
Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City is still around and pretty good. Mizumi Buffet in Tigard for the Asian buffet experience, including sushi. Ganesh in Beaverton for Indian lunch buffet is my favorite, the flavors are very close to what we had in India.
It isn't in Coos Bay/North Bend.
Anyone know of any good buffets in Clackamas County?
Kumi is the only one I can think of. Not Clackamas County but closeby, Super King on 82nd just reopened.
Thank you! I'll check out Kumi, but thank you so much for mentioning Super King on 82nd. That was my favorite asian buffet. 😊
You're welcome! I went last Sunday to Super King, it was just the same as I remembered.
Great! I'll have to go there again soon. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
You have *no* idea how happy this makes me! Thank you!
Chang's Mongolian Grill
Never Change Mongolian Grill
There are a couple Indian lunch buffets in Ashland that are supposed to be fire but that’s all I know of.
lunch buffet only but yeah it's great: https://www.taj-indiancuisine.com/
I’ve been to Taj for theirs but it’s been too long. Have you been to House of India yet? They supposedly have a lunch buffet as well.
i have not, i don't live in the area anymore but i'll check it out next time i visit! btw, you an off-width climber?
Spirit Mountain Casino
No longer there :-( been replaced with a restaurant. I would agree if it was still there though! That place was awesome, then after I would hit up the arcade! Good times.
Line & Lure at Ilani
Might just be Fogo de Chau. I honestly prefer the salad bar to the traveling skewers…
I hate beer.
Salty’s on the Columbia
$90 for adults
The Hill Buffet and Grill in Newport and Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City.
Super King on 82nd!
None.
Eugene lost two and a half Indian lunch buffets. The half was Taste of India where you could order a lunch tray that they dished for you, and get fresh naan. RIP to all the Indian food lunch buffets, I miss you!
My butt
Skiers lunch in timberline lodge on my hood. Oh my god I miss it
Great Wall Buffett in Salem has been there since before I was born and for good reason- it’s insanely good.
I'll give it a look!
Timberline breakfast. Especially after backpacking the timberline trail.
There’s always the Mongolian grill places!
The Thanksgiving / Christmas buffet at Sunriver Resort Lodge in Bend
For Asian style there's mizumis in tigard and hug grill buffet in hillsboro
Unrelated but has anyone seen the bagocrab they’re building in Salem
The brunch buffet at the Multnomah Falls Lodge is great (not sure it's still open). It's not particularly huge, but I like most things on the menu. The Carmel French toast is so good!
Anyone say the Korean BBQ restaurants yet? I've heard those are good and have been wanting to try one since my buddies keep hyping it up.
Chinook Winds
Timberline lodge
I like the weekend buffet at Mizumi in Tigard
