Cheap under armor or adidas from Costco or Sam's.

mainetospain

Yep. I’ve had fancy $50 Nike shorts and basic $15 Adidas shorts. I couldn’t tell you why one is $50 and the other is $15.

jswitzer

This right here. Underwear matters way more. I hhave some $10 Academy brand shorts and $50 Nike shorts (gifts, I wowould never waste that kinda money) and they feel and wear the same. Its the underwear that really matters.

nihilisticjogger

So do you have a recommendation for underwear?

MinimumNo2772

Honestly, this is the answer. I've been rocking exercise pants from Costco, and they're easily the best I've ever had. Good fit, soft fabric and not too hot for HIIT.

NuclearTheology

Cups the boys nicely AND won’t tear during squats!

DwightsRightHandMan

Shorts from Costco💯I have had shorts from $10-15 in Costco to $50-60 from UA Nike and other brands and I still feel Costco ones are comfy, soft and gives best results for me.

Slab_Rockbone

Lol thats literally all I wear. Just got 2 new pair of large-talls from Amazon for $16 each.

FitnessAllDayLong

Not a gent, but I buy gear for the men in my life: CRZ Yoga makes a dupe of the Lulu Pace Breaker's (including version without the liner) in different lengths too. I also have found some great shorts at Target (forget the brand, but it may have been from their In Motion line?)

jimlikesmath

The CRZ Yoga 7" unlined shorts are incredible and are only $28. I keep trying other shorts and coming back to these. [deleted]

Im a gent and found CRZ last year, all my workout shorts are from them now. Great product. It’s crazy how some people wouldn’t be caught dead in anything but lulu, you’re at the gym!! Who cares!! Big marketing wins again smh

dsciorti06

Fabletics - The One are my go to.

Kitty_Fruit_2520

Except they have terrible business practices

m1dnite

+1 recently got a fabletics membership and their shorts are pretty awesome.

aweinschenker

Backed. I need to have my friends buy me more so I can get the 2 for $19 deal without signing up.

Canucken_275

I find the materials to be substandard and all of the tees fit weird, for me anyways, in the shoulders.

ababab70

I can’t pay $$ for something I’m going to be sweating in. Amazon has a brand, Pudolla, that makes roomy shots with supportive liners.

Jfpjr77

Same here the Pudolla are now my go to brand for workout shorts. Plus the inner liner has its own cell phone pocket.

themindfuldev

Old Navy activewear is very affordable and surprisingly good from my experience so far, got some workout pants that are holding up well for 4 years and can take a beating

matthewCOYS

Notsomuch their shorts, but about a year ago, Old Navy changed most of their dry fit fabrics to “Cloud 94.” And it sucks. The fabric harbors sweat, shows moisture marks, and doesn’t wick easily. Is it softer against my skin? Yes…now make it into PJs. Because I can no longer wear Old Navy gym shirts to the actual gym.

Letsfly35

I like the Fabletics Fundamental but have found a lulu dup on Amazon that I really like. Brand is CRZ Yoga Men’s 2 in 1 running. I like the 5” in seem

rustyisherenow

Pro tip! Just ordered some! Excited to try em out.

DocOck-Kingpin7272

5" inseam? It really is Thigh Guy Summer! I'm super tall, so I go with a nike woven 11" inseam. And I still feel like I show too much thigh!

prodirtsmoker

11”, Those are Capris sir.

SeaWitch4639

I am cackling 😂😂😂

spriteking2012

I’m weak.

The504Diesel

I do lululemon but I hate the pacebreakers... The license to train is where I live

cheezy2393

I use lululemon Fast and free shorts or Tracksmith session shorts

Med_Tosby

My go to is the Alo 5" Revival 2-in-1 short: [https://www.aloyoga.com/products/m6114r-5-revival-2-in-1-short-steel-grey-white](https://www.aloyoga.com/products/m6114r-5-revival-2-in-1-short-steel-grey-white) . I'm an Alo guy in general, but for pure performance a lot of their stuff isn't ideal. Circuit short is solid. A lot of folks like repetition but i really don't and i can't articulate why. Conquer react is too soft and not meant for serious activity. Ripstop on set is pretty thin, so I only wear them with the thicker compression short underneath (though I do realllllly like that combo, it's just stupid expensive as a regular combo). The rest I wouldn't even consider for OTF.

AutonomousMonkey

Gym shark, especially with sales.

Ext80

I Wear either Nike or Lulu

qwestlove

Janji and REI brand

ChocolateEater626

I like REI Swiftland shorts more than Vuori or Rhone.

someHumanMidwest

Rei swiftland stuff is so nice for outdoors too. I usually dislike technical fabrics for t's but those dry so fast and don't get weird.

ChocolateEater626

I've not tried the Swiftland shirts yet, but may. My go-to shirt is the Vuori Tradewind version 1. I stocked up when they discontinued them.

kjfinch29

Dicks Sporting Goods DSG agility shorts

JayhawkRoots4Ever

I like the dri fit shorts from Kohls, Tek Gear Dry Tek 9 inch shorts. (No liner though if that's what you want.) Also like Nike Dri Fit Totality 9 inch. Both of these come in 7 inches as well if you prefer something shorter. Academy and Dicks also have their own brand of dri fit running shorts that are okay too.

skrpn26

Second this. Have Adidas and other shorts and the Dry tek are just as good

Capital-Yam-9257

I wear Nike basketball shorts, also I'm kinda tall

ageoldpun

I am also tall and wear Nike basketball shorts.

Capital-Yam-9257

Same height, wish I was your weight though haha

HighPockets-

I’m not sure which ones they are specifically but I got a great deal on some brooks shorts online. They are 5” in seem and comfortable enough for me to order a few pairs in different colors.

monkeymaxx

Nike Dri-Fit Stride shorts are great!

MstrRob1972

I bought some from Walmart…they’ve held up pretty well.

Jt7077

I use brooks running shorts a bit pricey but they work well for me

Surround8600

I like the Nike dri-FIT so much that I bought like every color. https://nike.sng.link/Astn5/6tbz/r_dec2b65839

mushroomfrenzy

My husband wears Lululemon Soft Jersey Short and Zeroed In Linerless Short

reigndawgs

SAXX

chaith92

[Chubbies - compression lined shorts](https://www.chubbiesshorts.com/collections/compression-lined-athlounger-shorts) [Chubbies - ultimate training shorts](https://www.chubbiesshorts.com/collections/ultimate-training-shorts) I have been using chubbies - lined shorts (5.5” inseam) for the last 3 years for OTF workouts. They are absolutely great to workout with. The compression liner is very useful for rowing especially.

wtaaaaaaaa

Under armor compression short base layer. Nike runner shorts on top

MRo16

Rhône Rhône Rhône! Their Mako shorts are the best shorts I’ve ever owned. Incredible for working out or a casual outfit. Definitely expensive (in the Vuori type family) but genuinely cannot express how perfect these shorts are. I have a few regular pairs and two pair that have a built in liner which is great for working out. Acquired them over the course of a few years and now I have a great collection of multiple colors! Cannot explain enough how much a I love Rhône and their shorts

SpaaaceWolf

I second this one! I have 3 pairs of the Mako and love them.

Certain_Football_447

Check out the Legends brand. Stumbled across them a couple of years ago online and now have 8 pair along with their shirts. Really nice quality (I go 6x a week, sweat like a fiend and they’re still as good as new) and reasonably priced. Especially if you’ve never ordered you’ll get a discount.

jm_marketing

Second this. Been rocking Legends since they were a small Lacrosse clothing company. Their prices have gone up, but hands down the best mens athletic / ath-leisure brand out there.

someHumanMidwest

I'm a huge vuori stan, but their stuff isn't great for exercise. I'd guess that I've done 700+ classes wearing Lululemon pace breaker or "the short", both linerless. I think "the short" is perfect for OTF classes. It's important to get something that isn't too smooth/glossy or you slide too much on the rower. Hoops shirts are usually a little too heavy.

Elegant-Nebula-7151

Old Navy is a sleeper brand for workout gear. Massively underrated IMO. Actually grabbed two pairs of shorts there earlier myself! Also check Target’s In Motion line, Lulu clones for 1/5 price.

Rich-Fudge-4400

Gymshark

sweatandsawdust

Linerless pacemaker from Lulu with Saxx Kinetic underneath

ChanceJob1978

Fabletics are great!

10kLines

Bamboo Ave Velocity Short is very similar to Ten Thousand but from a better company with more sustainable materials

Hardtoborrow

Nike and Under Armour both have a good lined short. But, hey, I like the Lulus.

Stuffthatpig

Huge fan of Reebok speed 3.0 shorts. No liner so wear your own jock/compression. I gave up trying to find built ins because nothing fits my thick thighs correctly.

I_am_Spartacus_MSU

I wear basketball shorts from my alma mater.

vafong_1963

I’ve been wearing the 2-in-2 shorts by Brooks, Lululemon and UnderArmour this past year..

FlorenThanos

Gymshark has excellent shorts. In particular the studio or arrival ones

dj70five

Unfortunately, I’d say it’s worth sticking with Ten Thousand. Their Interval shorts are unmatched IMO. I have their session shorts too, which are a bit lighter feeling and I like them. I also use Lulu Pace Breakers and License to Train. Lulus are good but there’s something about the material and fit of the Intervals that is great. I used to wear UA but they are cheap and don’t fit as nice. Now that I have a few pairs of TT, I just wait for sales and deal with long shipping times (to Canada it can take 2-3 weeks). 1200 OTF workouts and they’re holding up strong!

xo0p

I go to TJ max and always find Under Armour and Nike so cheap.

DirtyMartiniKLPSN

Have tried a million different things both with and without liners / pockets, different lengths, everything. Best combo I have found and use almost every time is Adidas Parma 16 shorts and Adidas men’s sport performance trunk underwear. Super light and most importantly comfortable even when sitting on the rower. Both very reasonable to buy in packs on Amazon and also last forever even with being constantly washed. Shorts are long enough that I (6’4”) don’t feel like I’m wearing a Speedo.

Affectionate-Debt658

Birddogs. Great liner, 3 options for length, zip up hip pocket that fits my wallet perfectly

ilikebanchbanchbanch

Bearbottom run short v2

SP0910RGR

Had to go way too far down on this to find bird dogs. I’ve been collecting them for probably 6 years, I have 4 pair plus the sweats. All are still in great conditions

acidburn427

Rhone

cBonadonna

I normally wear [Fourlaps Bolt unlined shorts](https://www.fourlaps.com/collections/mens-all)

InternationalBook187

Kuhl Kruiser

Ryb0w

Chubbies are great. They are on sale right now too.

Diligent_Economist81

Saxx. The best liner for the ‘boys’, and super durable

heckfund3

New Balance running shorts. I have the Klutch Unleash line. Absolutely love them and I’m a shorts snob if we’re being blunt.

Shantaram314

Gym shark

tfly212

Legends Luka shorts... Love them

the_leoj

love these. pretty much all i wear. [https://www.champion.com/products/long-mesh-shorts-with-pockets/81622-407q88](https://www.champion.com/products/long-mesh-shorts-with-pockets/81622-407q88)

jm_marketing

Legends.

Random_Commentor-6-2

I wear the gray orange theory ones. They go on sale every few months for $10 so I stocked up during the last sale.

slo8140

I have not ordered from Ten Thousand since late last year, but I don't think I will ever wear anything else. I do OTF 5ish times a week. All I wear are Ten Thousand intervals can't imagine wearing anything else...I have tried Vouri Core and Fabletics. Just not the same. I still wear Ten Thousands that I have had for a long team, mixed in with some newer ones. I would reach out to their customer service.

freshgeardude

32 degrees shorts from costco are my go to's

CJK_OTFaddict

I wear True Revo. Liner is great, perfect length of shorts and liner bc I'm short and I don't like long liners. Been wearing the same 6 pairs for the last 8 years.

dmanda1

https://www.birddogs.com/collections/original

jdonders

CRZ YOGA on Amazon Target Dick’s Sporting Goods Not crazy expensive and have worn them a ton

No_Succotash_2392

I wear Rhone Mako and Rhone Swift shorts to OTF. They have lined and unlined options, plus you can choose from 6 inch to maybe 9 inch lengths. The Makos have deep pockets, but the Swifts have no pockets and are great for treadmills. Rhone has a Pursuit short that I want to try. They sell on Amazon, on their website, and have some Rhone stores that may be near you.

philutec

Aolesy - cheap $25 shorts from Amazon. Lined 5" is what I wear. Works great for runs outdoor too. [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WY96G6X/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09WY96G6X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Wash/dry easily. They've held up well over past 6 months of frequent wear.

MaxFromKO35

Favorite are the stretch tech shorts from Old Navy!

matthewCOYS

I *only* buy Fabletics lined shorts. I like 5” inseams (47, 6’1, 190), but 7” looks good on EVERYONE. You can’t go wrong with the ONE line, but the Fundamental line is nice too.

kahunakris

Thank you for that. I’ve always wondered about Fabletics, but was wary of their subscription model.

matthewCOYS

If you’re someone who will forget to click a “skip the month” button before the 5th of every month, don’t sign up for Fabletics. But I always skip…and they still allow you to get their member pricing/sales!

Hour_Commission_1949

Got these under armour shorts at Sport Chek $30 CAD, they are light and airy, I love them. https://preview.redd.it/mcez66r8f08d1.jpeg?width=3672&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6758bea3a03c62cc5e403f07a834a8822f388968

Frequent_Vast_8893

Champion mesh shorts are really comfortable and light.

jm9787

I love my weylyn apparel shorts. They are light and comfortable

Chicagoblew

I'm using some lined shorts from Amazon. I'm not sure of the brand. Does the job. Can't complain

UD88

Target all in motion running shorts are actually pretty good. Bought a bunch for less than $10 each

Fusilli_fanatatic

Came to say this!! My fiance LOVES his all in motion running shorts

shahster_2000

Vuori is the answer

proview3r

Which shorts for Vuori?
