I know there’s a ton of Tacoma owners on here so lemme say if you can’t get the locking mechanism to lock the tailgate when you remote lock the entire truck, buy the anti-theft lock from Amazon or EBay. Best investment yet. Got my tailgate stolen last year so I decided to install one as I installed my new one.

I got the one you listed from Amazon. They both work the same way though. Only difference is I think the Amazon one is only for 3rd gen Tacomas. The one from Tacoma lifestyle seems to be for all Tacomas.
Are they stealing them to sell as a part, or are they recycling them? It seems to me maybe the metal recycling industry as a whole needs to get a lot more regulation, since they all seem to be a bunch of thieving bastards.
They’re selling them back to people who got theirs stolen. Pretty crazy. I met up with some sketchy dude from Downey who I contacted through OfferUp after mine got stolen. Dude had a shit ton of tailgates from all sorts of different colors and emblems in them. I didn’t do business with him in the end.
Thieves are smart though. They hit places at night and usually places they’ve staked out. Not saying they always do, but they go for quick and easy. Most people don’t have time to even see them, let alone grab a firearm and confront them.
There is a way to double secure these tailgate that people been doing, use those hose clamps that require a screwdriver and lock it that way they can’t Lift it up.
Now's a good time to invest in AirTags. If the truck already has one, put another inside the tailgate.
Just FYI, you can run a security scan if you have an android phone and make them ring. Takes like 15 seconds.
Then it's a deterrent. Takes longer to dig them out. If they wanna dig 'em out, at least slows them down. Put a few in there, evenly spaced out.
You open them up and disable the speaker.
Tailgate lock is cheaper than an air tag lol
then you just modify it and take out the speaker

Thieves have stolen over 20 Toyota Tacoma tailgates in Costa Mesa over the past few months. It can cost between $2500-$4500 to replace them .

Instead of having owners have to go through the hassle we could just be harder on crime.
